Stars: Eileen Daly, Christopher Adamson, Jonathan Coote, Kevin Howarth, David Warbeck, Heidi James, Isabel Brook, Louisa Moore | Written and Directed by Jake West
What makes a B-movie a B-movie? Is the label an insult, or something more neutral?
Jake West’s Razor Blade Smile thoroughly embraces its status as a B-movie, especially given its status as the winner of the inaugural B-Movie Film Festival in numerous categories. Though I haven’t seen the other contenders (they don’t seem to have the same cult following as Razor Blade Smile), I can see why it would stand out in a sea of pretenders.
Razor Blade Smile is led by scream queen Eileen Daly as Lilith Silver, and guess what? She’s a vampire. Not actually my first guess, she certainly could have been a witch with a name like that, but let’s not get sidetracked. Eileen...

The Gentlemen is the latest entry into Guy Ritchie‘s chaotic and hilarious world of crime. The Netflix series is created by Ritchie himself and it is set in the world of Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name. It follows the story of Eddie Horniman, who unexpectedly inherits the title of Duke and his father’s whole estate. Still, he is more surprised as what he doesn’t know is that his father was in cahoots with criminals, who were growing cannabis on their estate. Eddie decides that he wants to rid his family estate of all the weed plants and criminals, but before he can do that he might have to do some criminal things himself first. The Gentlemen stars Theo James in the lead roles with Kaya Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ruby Sear, Joely Richardson, Giancarlo Esposito, Alexis Rodney, and Harry Goodwins starring in supporting roles.

A few years ago, director Oliver Harper made a documentary called In Search of the Last Action Heroes, which was described as “a comprehensive retrospective of the ’80s and ’90s action film genre.” One of the people interviewed for that documentary was screenwriter Steven E. de Souza, who was a major contributor to the action genre in those decades, working on the likes of 48 Hrs., Commando, The Running Man, Die Hard, Die Hard 2, Hudson Hawk, Ricochet, Beverly Hills Cop III, and Street Fighter, among others… with one of the others being the much-maligned Sylvester Stallone comic book movie Judge Dredd. In a moment that didn’t make it into the final cut of In Search of the Last Action Heroes, de Souza discussed the issues that Judge Dredd ran into, including bad marketing and a struggle to secure an R rating. Harper has been kind enough to share that deleted scene online,...

The feature-film directorial debut of John Shackleton, one of the producers at Movie Mogul, the company behind 2011′s fantastic Panic Button (which also debuted at Frightfest the same year), if there’s one film I was looking forward to seeing at this years Frightfest it was The Sleeping Room. I was one of the few the extolled the virtues of Media Mogul’s first foray into filmmaking and I was eager to see what they’d bring to the table with this film.
And I wasn’t disappointed.
The polar opposite of Panic Button’s “Social Network meets Saw” story, The Sleeping Room is the type of film Britain used to be known for, the type of film that,...

James Caviezel gives a strong performance in 2002's The Count of Monte Cristo which arrives on Blu-ray looking solid and with revenge on its mind. The adaptation of Alexandre Dumas novel of revenge was directed by Kevin Reynolds (who brought Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and Waterworld to the screen) with Jay Wolpert (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl) handling writing duties. The film sees Caviezel joined by Guy Pearce, James Frain, Dagmara Dominczyk, Luis Guzmán, Henry Cavill, Jb Blanc, and Christopher Adamson. It also benefits from short performances from the legendary Richard Harris and an evil performance from Michael Wincott. The tenth film adaptation of the classic tale sees Caviezel taking on the...

Brit director Johannes Roberts made waves in the horror scene a few years back when he created the first Mobile phone series, When Evil Calls. Then in 2007, Roberts worked that series into an extended feature starring Sean Pertwee and Dominique Pinon, which was released by Lionsgate. What he has been working on recently has been a bit of mystery... until now.
His new film is simply titled F (as in the grade) and it looks to be the latest endeavor in Britain's recent wave of what I'm now coining as "hooligan horror" (see Eden Lake). We have received a small synopsis from Roberts, but I can't help but wonder if it will be a revenge movie where a humiliated teacher exacts some justice and hands out fails to all of his rowdy pupils. That would be sweet.
