Image
Muster your warriors. Man your defenses. Prepare your village. Clash of Clans is coming to Netflix as an animated series. Based on Supercell’s Clash of Clans, the upcoming series will be the streamer's latest attempt at video game adaptations after successful tries, which include Arcane, The Witcher and Devil May Cry. Titled Clash, the animated series will build on the world introduced in Supercell franchises Clash of Clans and Clash Royale, two of the biggest games of all time. Launching on Android and iOS in 2012, they have since totaled four billion downloads and 180 billion gameplay hours by mobile game fans across the world.

In the mobile game, each player spawns into territories where, using several in-game mechanics, including mining resources and war, each player can build up their settlements, join up with other players to form powerful clans and dominate the world around them. Clash Of Clans Animated Series In The Works At Netflix
Image
Netflix is adding new IP to its library, with an animated series based on Clash of Clansin development. Clash of Clans and the associated Clash Royale are among the biggest titles in mobile gaming, and they've accumulated massive audience pools since the franchise began in 2012. The early 2020s saw announcements regarding future Clash of Clans spin-off games, though progress has since been halted, making Netflix's announcement the first significant addition in years.

Varietyreported the development of an animated show that's been greenlit in the universe of Supercell's Clash of Clans. The premise follows "a determined but in over his head, Barbarian who must rally a band of misfits to defend their village and navigate the comically absurd politics of war." Fletcher Moules, who has previously worked on directing Clash of Clans animated shorts on YouTube, and Ron Weiner are teaming as co-showrunners, with Icon Creative Studio (Star Wars Young Jedi Adventures), leading animation.

‘King Of Daytime Talk’ Phil Donahue Dead At 88
Image
Phil Donahue, known as the “King of Daytime Talk,” has died at the age of 88. He passed away in his home surrounded by family on Sunday, August 18. To remember the daytime television legend, here is a look at the talk show host’s long, successful career.

A Look Back At Phil Donahue’s Career

The daytime talk show host kickstarted his career in the late 1950s. He got his start on radio and television before pitching his own talk show, The Phil Donahue Show. The show was created in 1967 in Dayton, Ohio. Over the years, he gained credibility for talking about controversial topics. He also took viewers behind bars at the Ohio State Penitentiary in 1971, which gained him a lot of recognition among journalists.

The show’s hour-long broadcast dedicated itself to single issues. Each episode would cover things like abuse in the Catholic Church, race relations, and feminism, all hot topics at the time.

This Was The Single Toughest Futurama Episode To Write
Image
In the "Futurama" episode "The Luck of the Fryrish", Fry (Billy West) becomes increasingly concerned about his lack of good luck in the 31st century. He loses at horse races, loses his last dollar, and loses all his hair when he is struck by lightning. Fry figures that his lack of good luck stems from the fact that he lost a lucky talisman when he was a youth. Fry used to have a seven-leaf clover that brought him good fortune, and made him lucky enough to beat his jealous older brother Yancy (Tom Kenny) at basketball. Although Fry had been cryogenically frozen for 1,000 years, he figures his seven-leaf clover is still locked in his childhood safe, preserved in the subterranean ruins of old New York. Into the sewers he must go.

The episodes cuts back and forth between Fry in the 31st century as he seeks his clover, and Fry in the past,...

A Particularly Creepy Futurama Robot Sent Online Fans Into A Frenzy
Image
In the "Futurama" episode "The Luck of the Fryrish", Fry (Billy West) is incensed when a trip to the racetrack leaves him with only his last dollar. Waving the dollar above his head, he boasts to the fates that it will remain his. A rogue breeze, however, whips the dollar out of his hand and deposits it on top of some nearby power lines. Fry, determined to retrieve his last dollar ... not terribly bright ... climbs up to the power lines with a metal rake, hoping to scoop up his money. Predictably, touching the rake to the power lines electrocutes Fry. Then, to add insult to injury, the rake attracts a lightning bolt, electrocuting Fry a second time. He falls into a garbage can, his hair burned off.

Later, back at Planet Express, Fry seethes, his bald head still smoldering. Luckily, a Hair Robot -- a character never before seen on...

Futurama's Bender and Leela Have Surprisingly Wild Kill Counts
Image
Futurama's Bender engages in violent acts for fun, which shows his disdain for humanity. Turanga Leela resorts to violence to intimidate others or protect her friends throughout Futurama. Leela's is not beyond hurting those close to her, with Futurama's "Anthology of Interest" depicting the lengths she could actually go.

The world of Futurama is one where death and murder aren't just accepted aspects of life, but a casual constant. People who should by all accounts be dead can live on as heads in jars, and characters causing countless deaths across the cosmos is brushed aside. Even with this in mind, some of the show's nominally heroic characters have racked up some horrifying kill counts over the years.

In one of Futurama's darkest elements, Bender and Turanga Leela have proven to be very violent over the years. Bender especially has a staggering kill count in-universe, and Leela has...

Futurama Loves Making Fun of Season 4's 'Jurassic Bark'
Image
The following contains spoilers for Futurama Season 8, Episode 6, "I Know What You Did Next XMas," now streaming on Hulu.

One of the things that's always stood out about Futurama is the way the show balances a constant goofy tone with more emotional beats. Whether that's endearing romance, surprising introspection, or heartbreaking tragedy, Futurama's best episodes have run the gamut of emotional beats. But it's also made a habit of turning one of its single saddest moments into a punchline over and over again.

Season 8's "I Know What You Did Next XMas" -- Written by Ariel Ladensohn and Directed by Crystal Chesney-Thompson -- features a sly gag at the expense of Fry's long-dead dog, Seymour. Seymour was introduced in one of Futurama's most infamously somber episodes, often held up as one of TV's saddest sequences. It's far from the first time the sci-fi/comedy has poked fun...

‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Season 5 Review: Sketch Series’ Long-Awaited Return Is Silly and Familiar
Amy Schumer in Inside Amy Schumer (2013)
Should “Inside Amy Schumer” Season 5 be considered a legacy revival? While the show’s time off the air hasn’t been quite as extensive as later-season revivals like “Arrested Development” or “The X-Files,” six and a half years can feel like an eternity in popular and political culture, especially when accompanied by a worldwide pandemic. Schumer herself must be particularly aware of the fullness of this time; when Season 4 of the show debuted in spring 2016, she was fresh off a big hit movie “Trainwreck” and a moment in the cultural zeitgeist; an ongoing Comedy Central sketch series seemed almost charmingly small-scale for such an ascendant star.

Since then, she’s starred in two more broad big-screen comedies, made her Broadway debut in Steve Martin’s “Meteor Shower,” given an underseen but excellent performance in “The Humans,” written and directed her Hulu series “Life & Beth,” co-hosted the Oscars, gotten married and had a child.

‘Inside Amy Schumer’ Season 5 Asks: What’s Been Up Since 2016? Anything Good?
Image
The most recent episode of Inside Amy Schumer was a fairly innocuous one. A clip show featuring snippets of sketches from all four seasons of the show, it was framed by a parody of a Real Housewives reunion, with a spray-tanned Schumer and co-stars like Bridget Everett cursing each other out while Andy Cohen looked on with amusement.

This was June 16, 2016 — the before of the before times. The presidential election and all the ugliness that followed it wouldn’t be for another four months, Covid was years away, abortion was still legal nationwide,...

‘Silicon Valley’ To End With Abbreviated Season 6 On HBO; EPs Promise “Fitting Conclusion”
Ending months of speculation, HBO has confirmed that the upcoming sixth season of comedy series Silicon Valley will be its last. Currently in pre-production, Season 6 will consist of seven episodes and premiere later this year.

“Silicon Valley has been a career and life highlight for us,” series executive producers/showrunners Mike Judge and Alec Berg said. “We’ll miss it desperately, but we’ve always let Pied Piper’s journey guide the way, and Season 6 seems to be the fitting conclusion. We are forever indebted to our incredible cast, crew and partners at HBO. At a certain point, there’s only so much we can do to make the world a better place.”

Rumors about Silicon Valley possibly coming to an end started when Season 6 was delayed, largely to accommodate Berg, who co-created and runs fellow HBO comedy series Barry. All previous seasons of Silicon Valley, ranging from eight to 10 episodes,...

‘Silicon Valley’: Will Season 6 Of HBO Comedy Be Its Last? – TCA
HBO’s comedy series Silicon Valley is taking a long break between Season 5 and and Season 6. Renewed for a sixth season last summer, Silicon Valley is likely not going to go into production until this summer. That is in part because its executive producer/showrunner Alec Berg also runs fellow HBO comedy series Barry, which he co-created.

The long delay and the series’ age have prompted much speculation that Silicon Valley‘s sixth season would be its last.

“In terms of last season, it’s a natural question; we have had conversations with them,” HBO president of programming Casey Bloys told Deadline. “Obviously when you get to the sixth season of a show, you have to talk about how much more is there in this, do you want to do more, so we have had those conversations. To be honest, what (the producers) want to do is get in the (writers) room,...

‘Silicon Valley': Season 6 Production Delayed to Accommodate Alec Berg’s Work on ‘Barry’
HBO is pushing back the start of production on the sixth season of “Silicon Valley” in order to accommodate showrunner Alec Berg’s same responsibilities on “Barry.”

There is no word from HBO on when production on the new season of “Silicon Valley” will start, but TV Line reported it will likely be next summer, which could mean that the series may not return until 2020.

“As Alec Berg is a showrunner on both ‘Barry’ and ‘Silicon Valley,’ the schedule was structured to allow Alec to wrap on ‘Barry’ before starting work on ‘Silicon Valley,'” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement.

‘Silicon Valley’ Season 6: Production Delayed Until Summer 2019
Production on the sixth season of HBO’s “Silicon Valley” has been delayed until mid-next year, Variety has confirmed.

The comedy series will now begin production on the new season in summer 2019, meaning the season may not air until 2020.

“As Alec Berg is a showrunner on both ‘Barry’ and ‘Silicon Valley,’ the schedule was structured to allow Alec to wrap on ‘Barry’ before starting work on ‘Silicon Valley,'” an HBO spokesperson said in a statement to Variety.

“Barry,” HBO’s new comedy starring Bill Hader as a hitman with dreams of being an actor, debuted back in March and was renewed for a second season at the same time “Silicon Valley” was renewed for its sixth.

“Silicon Valley”–which stars Thomas Middleditch, Martin Starr, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Woods and Amanda Crew–has been nominated for multiple Emmys throughout its run, including best comedy series. It has won two of the awards to date,...

HBO Renews ‘Barry’ and ‘Silicon Valley’
Following the recent season premieres of both shows, HBO has renewed the freshman comedy series Barry and returning fan favorite Silicon Valley. The announcement was made by Amy Gravitt, executive vice president, HBO Programming.

“While Barry has delighted audiences with its deft interplay of comedy and drama, Silicon Valley remains as brilliantly and frighteningly prescient as ever,” noted Gravitt. “We’re thrilled that these two smart, funny shows are returning for another season.”

Created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, Barry launched its eight-episode first season March 25. Hader stars in the title role as a depressed, low-rent hitman from the Midwest who finds himself drawn into a community of acting students while on a hit job in La. He wants to start a new life, but his criminal past won’t let him walk away. Can he find a way to balance the two worlds?

Silicon Valley Season 6 Release Date, Episodes, Cast, Story, and News
Joseph Baxter Jun 7, 2019

HBO’s Silicon Valley Season 6 will be the final exploits of the embattled tech entrepreneurs of Pied Piper.

Silicon Valley Season 6 is definitely happening on HBO! Unfortunately it will be the show's final season.

Variety reports that HBO has announced that Silicon Valley Season 6 will be the final go-around for Pied Piper. This makes sense as the story has largely run its course and showrunner Alec Berg is moonlighting on Barry. Still, we'll be sad to see Richard and Co. go.

Silicon Valley is the creation of Mike Judge, John Atlschuler, and Dave Krinsky. It's executive produced by creators Judge and Berg, joined in that capacity by Clay Tarver, Michael Rotenberg, Tom Lassally, Jim Kleverweis, with co-executive producers Jamie Babbit, Anthony King, Graham Wagner, and Ron Weiner. They are joined by consulting producers Carrie Kemper, Carson Mell, Jonathan Dotan, Todd Silverstein and Josh Lieb.

St. Patrick’s Day: 7 TV Episodes on Netflix That Are Even Better Than a Pot of Gold
Ted Danson, Shelley Long, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Nicholas Colasanto, and Rhea Perlman in Cheers (1982)
With so much hype surrounding shows’ Christmas and Halloween specials, it’s easy to forget that there have been some great St. Patrick’s Day episodes in the TV world. So here are a lucky seven episodes that’ll get you excited to celebrate the holiday! Or make you want to stay at home and chill, since all are available to stream on Netflix.

“30 Rock”

Like a double rainbow, “30 Rock” gave its fans not one, but two reasons to get excited, as it aired two St. Patrick’s Day episodes in 2009 and 2012. However, the 2009 episode, “The Funcooker,” is the standout. Written by Tom Ceraulo and Donald Glover, the episode sees Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) attend jury duty, in which the woman on trial hilariously reflects Liz’s own work problems. She must also juggle problems that arise when her show’s stars (Tracy Morgan and Jane Krakowski) pass out and curse while hosting the St.

Nominations For The 68th Annual Writers Guild Of America Awards
The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.

Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Airs Sundays at 10pm Et on HBO

Let’s talk shop: The second season of a show, if it is lucky enough to get one, is its most important. Season two is where the writers, producers, and cast have a chance to build up what works and cut the fat. Silicon Valley’s first season brought the show to a place prime for second season rejiggering, with an established world and tone, cracker jack dialogue, and performances both subtle and grandiose. But the unfortunate death of Christopher Evan Welch, who played the angel investor for the show’s startup, gave Mike Judge and Co. the added challenge of having to move forward without one of its key actors and narrative tools.

FX doesn't submit 'Fargo' as 'Transparent,' 'True Detective' lead WGA TV nominations
Billy Bob Thornton, Colin Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, and Allison Tolman in Fargo (2014)
The Writers Guild of America announced the TV nominees for the 2015 WGA Awards on Thursday (December 4) morning and several new shows broke into the fields in a big way. And, of course, there were a number of big WGA Award nomination head-scratchers. Specifically, where the heck was FX's "Fargo"? The answer is below. Making perhaps the biggest splash was "Transparent," which earned three nominations and, since "Orange Is The New Black" earned two nods and "House of Cards" pick up one, that meant that Amazon Prime and Netflix are, at least for one award-giving organization, on equal footing as creators of original programming. The Jill Soloway-created "Transparent" is nominated for New Series, where it will go against "The Affair," "The Knick," "Silicon Valley" and "True Detective." "Transparent" and "Silicon Valley" are also up for Comedy Series, going against "Louie," "Veep" and "Orange Is The New Black." Lest you panic...

Oscar Front-Runner: "Argo" Tops Producers Guild of America (PGA) Winners!
Oh yes it still hurts that Ben Affleck was not given a Best Director Oscar nomination, yet his fantastic film "Argo" continues its ascension to Oscar glory! The film took home the top prize at the Producers Guild of America Awards taking home the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.

So guess which film will win the Oscar Best Picture? Yup, it will be "Argo!" Why? Well, Hollywood really loves movies about them and "Argo" is about a movie of a fake movie in order to help free some Americans trapped in Iran during the hostage crisis.

And, the PGA award is a significant Academy Awards precursor. Only seven times in 24 years has the PGA winner failed to win a Best Picture Oscar. So "Argo" has a strong chance.

I'm also happy that "Searching for Sugar Man" won the Documentary category, and not so happy...

'Skyfall' ranks on Producers Guild Awards list of top 10 nominees
Daniel Craig in 007 - Operação Skyfall (2012)
The Producers Guild of America has announced its nominations for best productions of the year, in what is often looked to as an indicator for how the Academy Awards may go.

The guild selected 10 films — most of them common guesses for the group that could make up the Oscar list of the best films of 2012: Argo, Lincoln, Les Misérables, among others.

The one surprise: Skyfall. No 007 film has ever cracked the Best Picture list, but if this nomination is any indication, that could change when the Oscar nods are revealed Jan. 10.
