Alejandro G. Iñárritu may be currently shooting his latest starry big screen spectacle, an as-yet-untitled film for Warner Bros. led by Tom Cruise, but the Oscar-winning director is also delving back into his filmmaking past.
In a new book, Iñárritu will explore the production of his debut feature “Amores Perros,” the critically acclaimed crime thriller that first bowed in 2000 in Cannes, would be nominated for an Academy Award and — perhaps most importantly — heralded the arrival of a new master of modern cinema.
Published by Mack on the 25th anniversary of “Amores Perros'” release, the book — also entitled “Amores Perros” — features unseen on-set photography, storyboards and stills from the making-of by storyboard artist Fernando Llanos, Iñárritu’s handwritten notes and scene breakdowns. Meanwhile, alongside a new text by Iñárritu himself, it will include contributions by director Walter Salles (whose “I’m Still Here” recently won the Oscar for international film), award-winning novelists Jorge Volpi and Wendy Guerra,...

Alejandro G. Iñárritu, whose Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths is Mexico’s submission for the international feature Oscar this year, is an Academy favorite: His films have been nominated for 33 Oscars, with eight wins, and he has been nominated seven times and won four, including for picture, director and original screenplay for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), and director for The Revenant. But when the writer-director made his first feature, Amores Perros, he was largely unknown — and the film’s nomination for best foreign-language film came as a surprise.
Starring Emilio Echevarría, Goya Toledo and Gael García Bernal as disparate characters whose lives intersect unexpectedly, Perros was deemed “long and excruciatingly violent” by THR critic David Hunter, who noted it “perhaps too cleverly centers on a horrible car wreck that opens the film and is replayed several times.

Most filmmakers spend the duration of a career emphasizing one walk of life over the infinite others, but occasionally there is an artist who seeks the truth through universality: the common thread that unifies a Mexican intersection, a Moroccan village, or an American theatre into a snapshot of what it truly means to be alive. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu is one such artist, pursuing the crevices of the human soul for nearly twenty years, and doggedly striving to capture fear, hope, and mortality on the silver screen. Some label it pessimistic cinema, but in the words of Iñárritu idol Oscar Wilde, “A pessimist is nothing but a well informed optimist.”

Minogue Slams Martinez Reunion Rumours
Kylie Minogue has blasted rumours she has reunited with ex-boyfriend Olivier Martinez, insisting they are definitely not a couple.
The singer split from Martinez in 2007 after a four-year romance, but sparked speculation they had rekindled their love after being spotted together in February.
Just this weekend, it was even claimed the Spinning Around hitmaker was planning to announce her engagement to Martinez onstage at a concert in the Czech Republic in May.
But Minogue insists the reports are totally false. After telling U.S. morning TV host Matt Lauer on Monday that she had "dated" Martinez, he asked, "Dated - past tense?" to which she replied, "Yes."
Lauer then asked, "So there's no rekindling and no engagement in the future that I need to know about?"
Minogue replied, "No."
After splitting with Minogue, French actor Martinez went on to date Spanish actress Goya Toledo.
