“A talent agent is sitting in his office and in walks a family — a father, a mother and two kids. The father says to the agent, ‘Have I got an act for you!’”
So begins one of the most notoriously dirty jokes in the history of comedy. The specifics can vary, but the basic idea is always the same: The family walks in and offers up their act. The agent asks what the act is and one of them, usually the father, goes on to explain their routine, which involves the most shocking and depraved sex acts possible between members of the family, including but not limited to: urination, defecation, vomiting and bestiality.
The depraved part of the joke can last just a couple of minutes or upwards of an hour, and the contents change depending upon the imagination and endurance of the joke-teller. The ending, however, is always the...

Morgan was in hospice care and died Monday in her sleep of natural causes in Naples, Florida, her family announced.
A classy performer known for her silky smooth phrasing, Morgan moved from New York to France in the late 1940s to build her career before returning the U.S. and becoming a very popular singer through the mid-1960s.

Brad Bird's 1993 animated series "Family Dog" began its life several years earlier as an episode of "Amazing Stories," a Steven Spielberg-produced anthology series that utilized the talents of Clint Eastwood (among many other notable filmmakers). Also titled "Family Dog," the episode aired on February 16, 1987, and featured a cute white terrier of some kind (with its barks provided by Bird) who lived in an ordinary suburb with a white sitcom family. The dog was only ever referred to as "the dog," but his actual name was Jonah. The episode also starred the legendary Stan Freberg as the family patriarch and Annie Potts as his wife. Danny Elfman and Steve Bartek provided the music, with Tim Burton contributing to the short's character designs.
The piece was sliced into three vignettes, all of which centered on the ways a family dog can forcibly -- and unfortunately -- insert themselves into traditional family moments.

For most moviegoers, Brad Pitt basically dropped out of the sky and into the backseat of a 1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible in Ridley Scott's 1991 classic "Thelma & Louise." They'd never seen or heard of this ludicrously handsome charmer before, but now that he was so emphatically here, they knew they'd be lining up to see him in just about anything for decades to come.
34 years later, Pitt, at the age of 61, is still one of the most sought-after movie stars in the world -- and those sun-kissed good looks have kept better than Robert Redford's, so he remains a viable romantic lead at a point in his career where you'd expect him to start playing men who are uneasily aware that they've entered their third act. Or he could make like Cary Grant and simply retire rather than face the awful indignity of playing grandfathers.
This would be unthinkable because,...

First a beloved weatherman and children’s show host in Indianapolis, David Letterman eventually graduated to becoming a regular on game shows and talk shows in L.A. And after he filled in for Johnny Carson on The Tonight Show with great success, NBC’s Fred Silverman gave Letterman his own 90-minute morning show, The David Letterman Show.
It did not go well.
Before the new program even premiered, there was trouble. The show’s producer quit days before the show debuted in June 1980, so head writer Merrill Markoe — who had zero talk show experience — stepped into the role. A few weeks in, a new producer was hired, but the show continued to flounder and was cut down from 90 minutes to 60 a few weeks into its run. Writing for 30 fewer minutes per episode was a relief to Markoe, yet the show still struggled. And the biggest problem had nothing to...

"Clue" from 1985 is arguably the single greatest movie adaptation of a game ever made, whether video, board, tabletop, or children's game. Even 40 years later, it remains not just a hilarious comedy film in its own right, one of the best detective movies of all time, or even just a fantastic way of taking a familiar product and translating the gameplay to the big screen without sacrificing a good narrative. It is also a rather cool and effective experiment.
It's not like this was some small indie film. There was plenty of reason for optimism when it was announced and made. Jonathan Lynn's "Clue" boasts one hell of a comedic cast that includes Michael McKean, Leslie Ann Warren, Eileen Brannan, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd, Madeline Kahn, and Tim Curry.
It follows the barebones premise of the board game: strangers arrive at a mansion and one of them commits a murder.

Over the course of its seven post-Roseanne seasons, The Conners has welcomed a number of celebrity guest stars to the show, including Matthew Broderick, Candice Bergen, Patton Oswalt, Whoopi Goldberg and Dan Aykroyd, who thankfully resisted the urge to bust out his harmonica and force John Goodman into performing a Blues Brothers 2000 reunion concert.
But there are a number of actors from the original Roseanne series who, barring a last-minute cameo on tonight’s series finale, simply never appeared on The Conners.
Executive producers Bruce Helford and Dave Caplan addressed some of these absences in a recent interview with TVLine. On the subject of Leon, Roseanne’s former boss-turned-business partner, played by the late Martin Mull, the producers claimed that they wanted to find a way to include him on the show, but it became a “moot issue” after he passed away last year. “It would have been a conversation,...

Tomorrow, the credits will roll on The Conners for the last time when the series celebrates its grand finale. After seven seasons, the show proved that the world of the family from Lanford, Illinois had plenty of staying power even after their matriarch and original series star, Roseanne Barr, was killed off. Over the last few years, fans have caught up with the titular gang of relatives who we first met all the way back in the 80s thanks to a little TV show called Roseanne. During that time, we got to see a new generation of the Conners enter their young adult years, while favorites like Sara Gilbert’s Darlene and Lecy Goranson’s Becky continued into adulthood. At the same time, there were a few beloved characters from the flagship production who fans were upset they never got to see in the follow-up chapter.

Aside from video games, board games also get film and TV adaptations. One of them is Clue (or Cluedo), which was first announced in 2021, then later in 2024 when it was revealed to be an animated series that Sony will release. Unfortunately, this board game project was unable to leave the tabletop setting as it was recently reported that the show was canceled.
Clue's writer Dewayne Perkins revealed in an interview that the show was canceled but didn't give any reason why that was the case. In 2021, it was reported that Fox was developing the Clue TV series, as it partnered with Hasbro and Bento Box Entertainment to make the series. The 2025 Oscars ignited controversy for leaving out actors such as Michelle Trachtenberg, Tony Todd and Olivia Hussey. “Beverly Hills, 90210” star Shannen Doherty was also omitted, which her co-star Jennie Garth called “messed up” when asked by TMZ to give her thoughts on the snub (via People). Garth added that “maybe” the Academy should apologize to Doherty’s family for the exclusion.

The Academy Awards ceremony took place on Sunday night, and as with every year, the show featured an In Memoriam segment honoring some of the movie stars and creatives who've passed away since last year's show. Some keys were left out, with fans of horror legend Tony Todd disappointed not to see the actor included after his passing in November.
Per TMZ, Todd's family has since weighed in on the Candyman star's absence from the In Memoriam segment. The actor's widow, Fatima, said she was left feeling "angry" after the snub. She reportedly believes that there's a "racial element" that resulted in the omission, with the report noting that Fatima feels "people of color and women are often ignored as much as possible" with the Academy's In Memoriam tributes.

The 2025 Academy Awards ceremony went pretty much without a hitch. No one was slapped, no one received the wrong award, and no one embarrassed themselves. However, the event still managed to court controversy online thanks to the stars omitted from the event’s In Memoriam, including Michelle Trachtenberg, Bernard Hill, and Shannen Doherty.
The Academy has gone to great lengths in recent years to not only recognize the stars we see on screen and behind the camera, but also those who make it possible for movies to make it to screens. From writers and editors, to choreographers and publicists, the list of those who passed away in the last year is often a long one, but in trying to cover all the bases, the Academy often leaves themselves open to criticism for missing out some big stars from the emotional segment.

Oftentimes, if a celebrity dies too close to the Academy Awards, they may not make it into that year’s In Memoriam segment. And for a moment, it looked as if Gene Hackman — whose death was announced mere days before Sunday’s ceremony — wouldn’t be making the cut, as Morgan Freeman looked to be paying a special tribute to his friend and co-star. Yet, Hackman and some other notable 2025 deaths (including David Lynch) were included. But as is the case every year, there were many names left out. So who did the Academy snub this year?
Among the most notable names missing from the In Memoriam segment was one who also passed away last month: Michelle Trachtenberg, star of Harriet the Spy and Eurotrip. Along with her, horror icon Tony Todd (Candyman) was also omitted. Also failing to make the cut were Heathers’ Shannen Doherty, Clue’s Martin Mull and Olivia Hussey,...

No Oscars ceremony is ever perfect. There are always segments, speeches, jokes, and award winners that go down about as pleasantly as a fart in an elevator, and that will probably always be the case as ceremonies of this ilk are subjective by nature. While the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony featured plenty of great moments, like Kieran Culkin's all-time great speech after winning the Best Supporting Actor award for "A Real Pain." and Paul Tazewell becoming the first Black man to take home the Best Costume designer prize for "Wicked," it also boasted some questionable ones. The In Memoriam video package was especially polarizing — and not just for its use of Mozart's doom-laden "Requiem: Lacrimosa" as the accompanying musical number.
As is always the case with the annual tribute to the stars we've lost, the 2025 In Memoriam video package left out some notable figures. One of the most egregious omissions was horror legend Tony Todd,...

The 2025 Oscars got reflective with the traditional In Memoriam segment celebrating the entertainment figures who died over the past year as the names scrolled onscreen. Notable names in filmmaking including David Lynch, Maggie Smith, James Earl Jones and Donald Sutherland were recognized during the emotional segment.
“Harriet the Spy” star Michelle Trachtenberg, who died the Wednesday before the Oscars, was not included in the In Memoriam segment. This year, actors including Tony Todd, Chance Perdomo, Alain Delon, “Annie Hall” star Tony Roberts, Linda Lavin, James Darren, Mitzi Gaynor, Martin Mull and “Romeo and Juliet” star Olivia Hussey were also omitted, along with documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock.
Gene Hackman, who was found dead with his wife on Wednesday, was remembered with a tribute from Morgan Freeman, who worked with the two-time Oscar winner on “Unforgiven” and “Under Suspicion.”
Quincy Jones also got his own separate Oscars tribute later in the show.

Jason Bateman remembers the “Arrested Development” film that almost came to be. Bateman said during a recent appearance on the “Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend” podcast, which you can see in the below video, that Matt Damon was interested in the project at one point. The only downside? Now, nobody “gives a shit” about bringing the film to the screen.

One of the best movies based on a board game, Clue is a cult classic and one of the silliest whodunits around. Named after the characters in the famous game from the 40s, the cast includes Yvette (Colleen Camp), Mr. Boddy (Lee Ving), Miss Scarlet (Lesley Ann Warren), Mr. Green (Michael McKean), Professor Plum (Christopher Lloyd), Wadsworth (Tim Curry), Mrs. Peacock (Eileen Brennan), Colonel Mustard (Martin Mull), and Mrs. White (Madeline Kahn). These people were asked to come to Mr. Boddy's large mansion, and each of them quickly becomes a suspect of murder. As the film progresses, more and more people around the mansion are found dead while more and more clever puns are tossed out. What makes this mystery particularly unique is that it follows the spirit of the game by allowing for more than one kind of ending. There aren't as many endings as there are characters, but...

Movie fans have received some sad news, as Full Metal Jacket star Kevyn Major Howard, who played the Vietnam War correspondent Rafterman in Stanley Kubrick's war film, has passed away at the age of 69. The actor, born in 1956 in Quebec, Canada, began his Hollywood career in the 1970s when he had just moved to Los Angeles. Howard's acting career was not nearly as long-lasting as that of some of his co-stars, although he did appear in several notable films during the 1980s and 1990s.
The actor passed away in a Las Vegas hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, with no cause of death currently revealed. However, Howard's family reported to TMZ that the actor had been hospitalized for weeks due to respiratory issues. Matthew Modine, a friend and Full Metal Jacket co-star, shared a poignant tribute on X, reminiscing how Kevyn Major Howard's performance in Full Metal Jacket...

The "Roseanne" episode "Sherwood Schwartz: A Loving Tribute" was, as the title implies, a tribute to one of the most successful sitcom creators to play the game. Schwartz, of course, is the mastermind behind both "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch," and he worked as a writer on shows like "My Favorite Martian," "The Red Skelton Show," and "I Married Joan." Schwartz is a giant of the televised medium, and many TV shows owe him a debt; he provided several generations of goofy comedians with inspiration.
"Gilligan's Island" was particularly well-known among the public, partly because of its indelibly dumb humor, and partly because of endless reruns that continued through the 1980s. Every American knew the premise of "Gilligan's Island" and every sitcom writer wanted to emulate its success. It stood to reason that the makers of "Roseanne" — a blue-collar sitcom — would want to pay it, and Sherwood Schwartz, homage.

Seth MacFarlane is undeniably a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood, particularly in the TV space. As the creator of long-running shows such as "Family Guy" and "American Dad," his creations are now fixtures of the pop culture landscape. But even heavy-hitters miss every once in a while. For MacFarlane, his biggest miss to date came in 2013 when Fox picked up his live-action multi-camera sitcom "Dads" to air. Riding high at arguably the biggest moment in his career, the network seemed to think it couldn't lose. What it wound up with was an unrivaled critical misfire.
How bad was the response to "Dads," exactly? Amazingly enough, it ranks as the worst-reviewed sitcom on Metacritic with a dreadful 15 "Metascore." It should be noted that the site only counts titles with seven or more reviews. Setting aside any technicalities, "Dads" is...

Although The Conners season 7 has very little screen time to wrap up the Roseanne franchise’s storylines, that doesn’t mean that the sitcom can avoid a couple of major canon plots. The Conners’ cast of characters is large, meaning most episodes of the family sitcom don’t include every supporting star. If an episode of The Conners centers on an argument between Dan and Jackie and a B-story involving Mark struggling with his mother Darlene and his stepfather Ben, this means it is tricky for the show to give Becky, Harris, Neville, Beverly-Rose, and Louise screen time as well.
This will be a much bigger problem for The Conners season 7. The final outing of the Roseanne franchise, The Conners season 7 will be a “Six-episode farewell event” according to TVLine. This means the show will have only three hours of screen time to wrap up the character arcs of The Conners’ main cast,...

If The Conners season 7 wants to provide a satisfying ending to the Roseanne franchise’s overarching story, there are at least ten plots that the sitcom must wrap up. The Conners season 7 has a tricky road ahead. According to a TVLine report from late 2024, the final season of the Roseanne spinoff will be a “Six-episode farewell event” for the series. The Conners’ large cast of characters means that even the show’s normal seasons, which include over twenty episodes, often struggle to give every family member a moment in the spotlight. This makes season 7’s job even tougher.

Drew has also hosted The Drew Barrymore Show since 2020 and seems prepared for whatever guests bring to the stage.
Based on her recent teases ahead of the new Hollywood Squares premiere, she hinted she could provide some entertaining antics.

Christmas—the most magical time of the year—has the ability to stir up emotions that are as sweet as the scent of fresh pine trees and as warm as a cup of hot cocoa. We gather with family, exchange stories, and indulge in the joy of traditions. Oh, and let’s not forget the gifts—because what’s Christmas without a little bit of greed wrapped in glitter?
But if there’s one thing that makes this season even more special, it’s the holiday flicks that have become as essential as the Christmas cakes.

Although Roseanne’s spinoff The Conners never mentioned Martin Mull’s Leon Carp, the original show’s season 8 Christmas episode featured a historical piece of gay representation centered on the supporting character. One of the harsh realities of rewatching Roseanne is the realization that some of the show’s jokes have aged terribly. However, for every gag that feels tasteless or problematic in 2024, there are moments that stand out as strikingly progressive. Roseanne’s story of a working-class middle-American family tackled poverty, gay rights, racial discrimination, parental abuse, and a whole host of other hot-button issues with surprising tact and dexterity.

Michael Keaton's most iconic roles include Bruce Wayne, Betelgeuse, and Jack Frost. He also played Jack Butler in 1983's Mr. Mom, a domestic comedy that leaned heavily on the role reversal movie trope.
Michael Keaton's first comedy Mr. Mom is now streaming on Pluto TV. It's the best movie to watch before Goodrich, where the actor plays a character in a similar predicament. Keaton's first seven movies were comedies, from 1982's Night Shift to 1988's Beetlejuice. He has since proved his range in films like Jackie Brown, Birdman, and The Founder, but fans still credit his success to his earliest works, especially Mr. Mom and Night Shift.

Teri Garr, the Oscar-nominated star of “Tootsie,” “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was known for playing lovably daffy characters like Inga in “Young Frankenstein,” but also shined in more dramatic parts.
Sadly, her career was shortened by multiple sclerosis. She died of the degenerative disease on Tuesday at age 79.

Garr received her only Oscar nomination for her role as Dustin Hoffman’s supportive friend Sandy in comedy classic “Tootsie.” After Hoffman’s character has created his successful Dorothy persona, he’s caught trying on one of Sandy’s dresses, and turns the awkward situation into a seduction. Naturally, he lies that he’s going to call her when he’s really only interested in Jessica Lange’s character.

“Writing about music is like dancing about architecture” is a maxim the late comedian Martin Mull made about the futility of trying to translate the purity of music into words. Storytelling about architecture, well, there should be a truism about that too and the seeming impossibility of making a dramatic epic movie about an architect and his art. But it’s apparently been done and done amazingly in “The Brutalist,” the latest drama from actor-turned-filmmaker Brady Corbet.

The “In Memoriam” segment of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday paid tribute to a host of small-screen stars who have died in the past year, but users on social media were quick to point out the notable names that did not make the montage.

Among those included in the segment were Donald Sutherland, James Earl Jones, Martin Mull, Richard Lewis, Richard Simmons, Shannen Doherty, Gena Rowlands, Chance Perdomo and Carl Weathers.

The In Memoriam segment on Sunday night’s Emmy telecast paid respects to Shannen Doherty, Chance Perdomo, Martin Mull, Richard Lewis and many more TV luminaries lost in the past eight months.
Shelley Duvall and Sctv cast member Joe Flaherty, however, were two notable omissions from the revamped annual fixture of the telecast.
Duvall, though perhaps best known for her film work with major directors including Robert Altman and Stanley Kubrick, had a long and substantial TV career and was a two-time Emmy nominee. She created and produced a number of enduring shows, including Faerie Tale Theatre and Shelley Duvall’s Bedtime Stories. Duvall died in July at 75.
Flaherty died in April at 82. His absence from the Emmy segment was awkward given that one of his Sctv costars, Eugene Levy, co-hosted the telecast and another, Martin Short, was a nominee and presenter.

Among the many forgotten TV projects in legendary TV producer Norman Lear's body of work, Fernwood 2 Night stands out as one of the least appreciated. Starring Martin Mull and Fred Willard, the spoof chat show was a rare sardonic masterpiece in a television atmosphere in the seventies that was otherwise a complete wasteland. Ratings might not have suggested it hit a nerve, but forty-five years of imitators speaks volumes of its lasting legacy, with David Letterman citing it as one of his main inspirations.

The late Martin Mull's character Leon Carp in Roseanne was a significant LGBTQ+ representation in TV history. The Conners season 7 must acknowledge Leon's legacy and contribution to the show's lineup for years. Mark's role in The Conners could be impacted by learning about Leon, connecting the two characters via their shared experiences.
The late, great Martin Mull's Roseanne character Leon Carp was a pivotal part of TV history, and I hope The Conners season 7 acknowledges this. Looking back on Roseannes original run, Im often struck by how much the sitcoms story of a working-class family struggling to get by still resonates today. The reason that The Conners cast of characters is mostly composed of Roseanne alumni is that few of the shows heroes managed to leave Lanford despite their grand ambitions, and realistic everyday struggles were the reason they stuck around.
Roseanne handled unemployment, unplanned pregnancy, addiction, financial struggles,...
