Where Was Tombstone Filmed? Every Major Location Explained
Image
The 1993 Kurt Russell movie "Tombstone" is one of the most beloved Westerns of all time thanks to its incredible and expansive cast, some truly unforgettable moments, and tons of quotable lines. The film is a semi-historical account of the infamous gunfight at the O.K. Corral and the events leading up to it, following lawman Wyatt Earp (Russell), his brothers, and his friend Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer) in their battles with the cold-blooded Cowboys, as led by Curly Bill (Powers Booth). It's somewhat historically accurate, though it definitely sacrifices authenticity for a bit of John Ford-style movie magic. But what about the film's shooting locations? Did it trade in the real Tombstone, Arizona for the hills of Hollywood?

Thankfully, the answer is no, and the gorgeous desert vistas in "Tombstone" are all really in Arizona ... though not necessarily in or right around Tombstone itself. After all, the town had...

Val Kilmer and Adam West Played 1 of the Western Genre's Greatest Icons 34 Years Apart
Image
Doc Holliday is one of the most interesting men in the history of the Western genre. A dentist-turned-gambler-turned-gunfighter, his real-life story has been fictionalized through countless portrayals in film and TV. Throughout the years, Doc has been portrayed in a wide variety of ways, ranging from the cold and calculating to the charming and unpredictable.

Among the many actors who have taken on the role, Val Kilmer and Adam West stand out for their takes on the character, even though they played him decades apart. Kilmer’s portrayal in Tombstone remains one of the most iconic, playing Doc as a brilliant and witty man battling tuberculosis. West, on the other hand, took on the role in the late 1950s and early 1960s in a series of TV Westerns, bringing a more classic version of the gunslinger. Despite these differences, both actors made their portrayals memorable, adding to the character's legendary status in the Western genre.

This 32-Year-Old Western Has 1 of the Best Character Introductions of All Time
Image
Tombstone is lauded for its nuanced portrayals of historical figures from the Old West. In one of the film's best character introductions, the complexities of the famous gunslinger, Wyatt Earp, are perfectly captured. The film depicts both his admirable qualities and less heroic attributes in an exploration of what it means to be a lawman in a lawless land. The film portrays Wyatt Earp's life in Arizona, after leaving Kansas and ending his time as a US Marshal. While trying to build a new life free from the stresses of law enforcement, Earp can't help but become entangled with the growing threat posed by the Cowboys, a gang of ruthless criminals terrorizing the West. Wyatt Earp's transition from avoidant bystander to a merciless enforcer of the law explores the origins of violence and the repercussions of indulging in dark impulses.

In Tombstone, Wyatt Earp is haunted by the feeling that...

15 Best Westerns About Wyatt Earp, Ranked
Image
American lawman Wyatt Earp has become a legendary Western folk hero in film, television, and literature. Throughout the 1870s, Earp worked as a lawman in various cities such as Wichita, Dodge City, and Deadwood. In 1879, Earp moved to Tombstone, where he soon became involved in a conflict with a group of outlaws known as the Cochise County Cowboys. The conflict climaxed with the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, which saw Earp, his brothers Morgan and Virgil, and Doc Holliday face off against five members of the Cochise County Cowboys.

Due in part to Earp's exaggerations about his life and the fictitious nature of Stuart N. Lake's best-selling biography Wyatt Earp: Frontier Marshal, the truth surrounding Earp's Western exploits has faded with time. While film and television have aided in transforming Earp's life into a mythological existence rather than a factual one, they have also captured a uniquely American...

Why Wyatt Earp Returns To Being A Lawman In Tombstone, Despite Refusing For Half Of The Movie
Image
Kurt Russell's Wyatt Earp begins the 1993 adventure Tombstone by attempting to settle down after a career as a lawman, but he soon puts the badge back on alongside his brothers. The iconic Western picks up with Wyatt Earp after he retired from his career as a lawman in Dodge City, Kansas, just as he and his brothers Morgan and Virgil plan to head into the silver business together in the town of Tombstone, Arizona. All three men have their wives in tow, and they fully intend to settle in as businessmen, forsaking the guns and badges of the law.

Unfortunately for Earp, his plan to maintain a peaceful existence was short-lived, and the action takes off running in short order. Interestingly, several scenes in Tombstone make a special effort to emphasize how insistent Earp is on not returning to the right side of the law, and includes Earp outright refusing on multiple occasions.

The One Wyatt Earp Scene That Kevin Costner Did Better Than Kurt Russell's Tombstone Character
Image
Kurt Russell's Tombstone might be the better movie, but there's one moment that Kevin Costner's Wyatt Earp pulls off far better than its rival. The Tombstone vs Wyatt Earp movie battle was well-documented in the early 1990s, with the two biopics recounting the legendary lawman's life. Despite Costner trying to sabotage Tombstone before and during its production, the film was released first to great reviews and healthy box office. A key problem with Costner's film was that it tried to cover the entirety of Earp's life, resulting in a story that felt both meandering and rushed.

The film is arguably the worst of Kevin Costner's Western movies, but it shouldn't be considered a total loss. Wyatt Earp has a great cast and it looks incredible, but it lacks the wit or warmth of Tombstone. It's also fascinating to watch both films back to back and see how they...

Tombstone's Most Outrageous Shootout Scene Actually Happened
Image
There's a Tombstone shootout that's so far-fetched that it feels completely made up - but it actually happened. This Kurt Russell Western has come to be considered a classic in the years since it arrived, and it's easy to see why. Right from Wyatt Earp's Tombstone introduction scene to the tearjerking ending between Earp and dying pal Doc Holliday (Val Kilmer), it's an unforgettable ride. The film is largely true to Earp's time in the titular boomtown, where he and his brothers made enemies of outlaw gang the Cowboys, leading to much bloodshed and the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral.

Like pretty much every film based on historical events, Tombstone takes some liberties with reality, either wildly exaggerating what happened or condensing events and characters. One example is the assassination attempt on Virgil Earp (Sam Elliott) and the death of Morgan Earp (Bill Paxton); in the movie,...

Every Death In Tombstone Explained
Image
Tombstone is a brilliant Western starring Kurt Russell as the iconic lawman Wyatt Earp, and the story certainly doesnt hold back when it comes to depicting the figures many kills throughout the years. Beyond Tombstones iconic quotes and gripping storyline, the film is also renowned for being surprisingly accurate when it comes to recounting this famous story. Tombstone: 10 Best Quotes From The Movie
Image
Tombstone's iconic quotes make it stand out in the Western genre, appealing to fans and mainstream audiences alike. Stellar performances by Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer add to the movie's loyal following and memorable dialogue. Characters like Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp deliver chilling yet crowd-pleasing lines, creating tense and memorable moments.

The Tombstone quotes from the 1990s Western movie have allowed it to stand the test of time as one of the most popular in the genre. While it is not a proper Western, like those by John Ford, Clint Eastwood, and John Wayne, the movie is a fun thrill ride that re-tells the story of Wyatt Earp and the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral. With a lighter tone and a lot of breezy and memorable dialogue, the Western movie has become a favorite among fans of the genre and mainstream movie fans in general.

Every Kevin Costner Western, Ranked Worst To Best
Image
Westerns experienced a decline in popularity until Clint Eastwood's Dollars trilogy revived the genre, and Kevin Costner helped revive them further. Kevin Costner's recent Western, Horizon: An American Saga, has divided audiences and critics but is proof that the Western genre is alive and well. Costner has a mixed track record with Western films, with Dances With Wolves being a classic but Wyatt Earp falling short.

Kevin Costner has been responsible for some true Western classics, although not every one of his Westerns has been a hit. Westerns in general used to be one of the most popular movie genres, but around the '60s, their popularity started to wane. Audiences and filmmakers started to feel Westerns were too old-fashioned, though Clint Eastwood's Dollars trilogy and the Spaghetti Westerns they inspired gave the genre a shot in the arm. The abject failure of 1980's expensive epic Heaven's Gate was...

Why Tombstone is the Best Western Ever Made
Image
The story of Wyatt Earp has been told many times over the years, from history books teaching us about the O.K. Corral to television shows and all the way to the big screen and back. Perhaps no telling of his life, however, is as accurate or as well-made as Tombstone. The film, debuting December 25th, 1993, had an incredible cast that would be almost impossible to assemble in today's films, and it carried a swagger — so much so that it is still directly referenced and quoted to this day, mainly Doc Holiday's famous quote, "I'm Your Huckleberry."

In addition to the incredible cast, the history, from those involved in the story is fairly accurate to what Earp went through in his travels. All of this, the performances from the cast, and the real history behind the story — it all culminated in a near-perfect translation that not only holds up...

What Happened To Sherman McMasters In Tombstone
Image
Despite historical inaccuracies, Sherman McMasters, played by Michael Rooker, stands out as one of the most interesting characters in Tombstone. In the film, McMasters is portrayed as a former member of Johnny Ringo's gang who later joins the Earps, becoming a valuable asset. While the movie implies that the Cowboys were responsible for McMasters' death, a deleted scene reveals that he was taunted and Executed before being partially burned by the Cowboys.

Sherman McMasters was played by veteran character actor Michael Rooker in the 1993 American Western Tombstone, and despite the actor's magnetic screen presence, the filmmakers behind Tombstone took great liberties with McMasters' portrayal. In fact, as great as the American Western is, it is filled to the brim with many inaccuracies regarding its portrayals of the historical figures seen throughout the film. Although McMasters was played by Monte Markham and Todd Allen in previous films based on the legend of the Earp brothers,...

Where To Watch Tombstone
Image
Tombstone, one of the best Westerns of the 1990s, is not currently available for streaming on popular platforms like Hulu or Disney+. Viewers can still watch Tombstone for free on DirecTV and Pluto TV's streaming services, or they can rent or buy it on various platforms. Renting Tombstone typically costs $3.99, while purchasing it ranges from $17.99 to $4.99 on different platforms, making it an affordable option for fans of the classic Western.

One of the 1990s best Westerns, Tombstone, has would-be viewers wondering where they can watch the movie. In the age of streaming, cinematic classics should be readily available, but the 1993 film by blockbuster action director George P. Cosmatos (Massacre in Rome) isn't easy to access. Set in the Arizona of the 1880s, Tombstone sees stars Kurt Russell and Val Kilmer playing famous Wild West lawmen Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, respectively. In addition to chronicling the duo's exploits, Tombstone features rough-riding cowboy outlaws,...

Tombstone Ending Explained: Legend Passes Into Cinema
Image
Although "Heaven's Gate" is now regarded in some circles as a misunderstood masterpiece, Michael Cimino's lavish box office flop had a lot to answer for at the time. Not only was it blamed for the death of the American New Wave, but it was also seen as the final nail in the coffin of the Western. Released in 1980, the subsequent decade was an especially fallow period for the genre, but at least we got "Three Amigos."

The drought lasted almost exactly 10 years until Kevin Costner's "Dances With Wolves" became a massive box office success and went on to win seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director, reinvigorating the oldest and most resilient of U.S. genres once again. Two years after Costner's triumph, Clint Eastwood's harsh but lyrical "Unforgiven" was also a big hit with audiences and won the same big prizes at the Oscars. The Western was back.

The pro wrestling world is in mourning today after the loss of one of sports entertainment's most colorful and iconic managers and entertainers. Bobby Heenan, a.k.a. "The Brain," passed away at age 73. While no cause of death was announced, the famous loudmouth manager had been in poor health for years, after he was diagnosed with throat cancer back in 2002. He died at his home in Largo, Florida. Here's part of the WWE's statement on Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.

"WWE is saddened to learn that WWE Hall of Famer Bobby Heenan, regarded by many as the greatest manager in sports-entertainment history, has passed away at age 73. Black Lightning Static Shock Team-Up? Salim Akil Loves The Idea
This fall The CW may need to consider changing its name to the DC Super Hero Network or something similar with as many super hero shows as it has lined up. Starting with Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl. If that weren't enough, soon they will also launch Black Lightning. As many of us have already seen, they have already released a promo image as well as a trailer for the show. This show as confirmed by the CW President Mark Pedowitz will not be part of the Arrowverse as they are not looking to make a 5 way crossover, not to mention that while the other shows are produced in Vancouver, Black Lightning is produced in Atlanta. But I think that they will be crossed over at some point. Supergirl wasn't supposed to cross over either but that quickly changed as well all remember. So for now with...

Paul Heyman, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Randy Orton, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Ryan Reeves in Hell in a Cell (2013)
'WWE Raw:' Nobody Beats the Mizdow
Paul Heyman, Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Randy Orton, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, and Ryan Reeves in Hell in a Cell (2013)
There have been better go-home shows. But then again, an episode of SmackDown still stands between us and Hell in a Cell, so all may not be lost. The folks in Kansas City did their darndest to put a promo-heavy Raw on their shoulders with equal parts passionate interaction and irksome subversion – poor Randy Orton – and the minority of talent who squared off in the ring (i.e. Usos, Mizdow, Gold/Stardust, Ziggler/Cesaro, etc.) ran circles around the night's plodding microphone work.

But in the interest of providing a service to you readers,...

Hulk Hogan Set For Nwo Reunion On Monday’s WWE Raw
WWE.com

We have reported for weeks about how Hulk Hogan will the be the guest star on Raw this coming Monday for his 61st birthday on August 11th. It was promoted by WWE on Raw, so Hogan’s presence will be a big part of Monday’s show in Portland.

There will also be some surprises because WWE hasn’t advertised other special names for Raw although it was teased by Scott Hall on Twitter. It’s now been confirmed by PWInsider that both Scott Hall and Kevin Nash have been booked for Raw.

As wrestling fans know, those two along with Hogan started the New World Order in WCW in July of 1996 and went on to dominate WCW for years as the top heel faction in the company. Once WCW died, they brought the Nwo to WWE for a brief run in 2002 that didn’t really go very well.

WWE: Why WrestleMania 7 Is Secretly The Best WrestleMania Of All Time
When many people think of the great WrestleManias, a select number of events tend to pop up in the mind of most fans. WrestleMania X7 is probably the best WrestleMania of all time and a candidate for the best American wrestling PPV of all time. WrestleMania III is up there thanks to the spectacle of the Silverdome and a rather great event overall. That’s fine and dandy, but I’m going to throw a different WrestleMania into the mix. WrestleMania VII may be the best WrestleMania that nobody talks about.

First, let’s address the elephant in the room and one of the main reasons that most fans tend to shy away from WrestleMania: Gulfsploitation. I don’t even know if that is a word, but that is probably the best name for it. Taking Sgt. Slaughter who at that point had been portrayed as an American hero...

WWE Raw Reaction 4/3/13 – The Undertaker Returns To Take Cm Punk To Hell
Gong! The Dead Man finally returned to WWE television last night to set up his next big Wrestlemania match against … wait for it … Cm Punk. Shock horror.

Punk had to earn his shot at The Streak though by defeating Randy Orton, Sheamus and The Big Show which was a smart choice given Punk’s string of high profile loses since Royal Rumble.

Seeing ‘Taker emerge from the 3 giant letters on the old school Raw set was enough to send chills down your spine and made Wrestlemania 29 about a thousand times more exciting.

This was Old School Raw on case you didn’t know. WWE should have used this as a chance to return to an ‘Old School’ one hour format cutting out all the crappy filler we’re sitting through every week.

Antonio Cesaro was jobbed out to Ryback yet again. At lead this week he got to last over...

5 Worst Moments in WWE WrestleMania History
WrestleMania! The grandest stage of them all. The platform for wrestlers to leave their mark on the profession they love. Unfortunately for some wrestlers though, WrestleMania has been a platform to leave the wrong kind of mark.

Here’s our list of 5 of the worst, most embarrassing moments in the history of WrestleMania.

5. The Undertaker ‘Hangs’ Big Bossman (WrestleMania Xv)

Growing up myself and my sister always had a rivalry as to who was better. She foolishly thought The Undertaker was the greatest of all time (even then) while I knew the greatest wrestler on the WWF roster was The Big Bossman. Sadly the two legends paths never seemed to cross so we never resolved our feud. That was until they met at Wrestlemania Xv when they fought it out in possibly the shortest Hell in a Cell match ever … maybe Undertaker’s worst ‘Mania match ever? So how do...

Straight Shoot: Daniel Bryan as Ulysses
Welcome back to Straight Shoot. If you haven't already, catch up on this week's Raw with our weekly WWE Monday Night Raw Recaps. Then follow writer Aubrey Sitterson on Twitter and make sure to check back every Thursday afternoon for a new Straight Shoot.

Daniel Bryan is one of my favorite wrestlers. His in-ring work is unimpeachable, his wrestling style is totally different from anyone else currently in WWE, and courtesy of his new, constantly evolving gimmick, he's finally getting a chance to show everyone that he isn't the uncharismatic geek that the promotion seemed so intent on painting him as (check out an interview between Bryan and myself very, very early in his WWE run). Though it's been a slow, steady evolution, it's safe to say that Bryan is, as of this writing, a full-on heel, but watching the crafty, clever underdog character he's developed, the character he most...
