It's a story about Marija, a girl who lives in a remote village in the north of Montenegro. Because of poverty and unemployment, her father wants to marry her for local peasant. In order to earn money for the departure Marija decides to go through prostitution to earn needed cash.

Slavka lives in a house beneath the hill. During winter, her mother Milusa stays with her. She takes care of her, cooks, dresses her, helps her. She deals with insomnia by keeping herself busy with housework and small daily tasks. She gives insomnia space to live. When she sits down, the silence bothers her. In the workshop where her husband used to work, besides the empty space and dust-covered machines, there are piles of coal and firewood. She goes down to collect them. Sometimes she starts the machine, just to hear the sound. She chops the wood into small pieces on it. At night, she lies down, but soon enough, another morning arrives, another day that never seems to end.

Tranquillity of Blood is a film of the state of mind, great reflections and even greater decisions made in a little village shaped by the long-standing customs and tradition. The story follows the life of a husband and wife, Drago and Persa, who lost their son ten years ago. Their plan of fake death and staged funeral will take their son's murderer back to the village after a decade of hiding in fear of revenge. Drago, hidden in the mill with the help of his wife, plans to take the final revenge, but the solitude of several months has changed his, up until then, firm decision. Is it desire for revenge stronger than desire for life? Is it possible to forgive and close the cycle?
