Kids vs Aliens is Jason Eisner's second feature, arriving 12 years after his 2011 debut feature Hobo with a Shotgun. Kids vs. Aliens gets off to a promising start as the crew of a fishing boat witness a UFO splashdown near them and are quickly decimated by its occupants. The scene then cuts rather jarringly to Gary his friends Miles (Ben Tector) and Jack along with his older sister Samantha (Phoebe Rex) making a super 8 post-apocalyptic epic.

After their shoot is disrupted by neighbourhood bully Billy and his friends Sam finds herself interested in things other than filmmaking. There are just two problems. One, Billy is only interested in one thing, well two things, he also wants her to let him throw a Halloween party at her house while her parents are away. Now we know exactly when that release is going to happen: January 20th! Kids vs. Aliens will then be moving to the Shudder streaming service sometime later in the year.

Sometimes you just need a simple monster movie. Look, I watch a lot of horror and genre pics, and I love it when they stretch themselves beyond the boundaries of the genre. I love when filmmakers attempt to use the building blocks of horror and rework them into new, unique shapes. But I also love it when someone says, "You know what? I'm gonna make a simple monster movie." And that's what makes the silly, unhinged "Kids vs. Aliens" so enjoyable.

Directed by "Hobo With a Shotgun" helmer Jason Eisener, "Kids vs. Aliens" will no doubt draw comparisons to "Stranger Things" with its story of kids butting up against the supernatural (there's even a scene when they all get on their bikes!). But as enjoyable as "Stranger Things" can be, it's sanitized. That can't be said for "Kids vs. Aliens," which gleefully embraces gore and danger to emulate the type...

Directed and co-written by Jason Eisener (Hobo with a Shotgun), the horror sci-fi film Kids vs. Aliens has been acquired by Rlje Films and Shudder ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest:

Press Release: Los Angeles, September 19, 2022 — Rlje Films, a business unit of AMC Networks, and Shudder, AMC Networks’ streaming service for horror, thriller and the supernatural, have fully financed and partnered on the anticipated horror/sci-fi film, Kids Vs. Aliens, ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month. Rlje Films will release the film In Theaters, on Demand and Digital in early 2023 with a Shudder release to follow later in the year.

Directed by Jason Eisener, who co-wrote the film with John Davies (Hobo with a Shotgun), Kids Vs. Aliens stars Dominic Mariche, Phoebe Rex (“The Last Divide”), Calem MacDonald (“The Umbrella Academy”), Asher Grayson Percival (“Scaredy Cats”), and Ben Tector.

The ever prestigious Fantastic Fest returns next week for its seventeenth edition featuring 21 World Premieres, 14 North American Premieres, and 21 U.S Premieres.

The press release teases killer teddy bears, man-eating sharks, elderly zombies, cocktail-serving robots, and Park Chan-wook… all under one roof.

But this year’s fest is even more special to us.

Bloody Disgusting is beyond excited to share not one, but Six feature films that we’re directly involved in, all screening at the Fantastic Fest, which runs from September 22nd – 29th. Our coverage, presented by The Callisto Protocol, also begins during this time.

Rlje Films & Shudder have together fully financed and partnered on the anticipated horror/sci-fi film Kids vs. Aliens ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest. The film is the latest collaboration between producers Bloody Disgusting, Cinepocalypse, and Studio71, who jointly produced V/H/S/94 and V/H/S/99.

Rlje Films is partnering with Shudder on “Kids vs. Aliens,” which it will fully finance and premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month. Both companies are business units of AMC Networks. Shudder is a streaming service that focuses on horror, thriller and supernatural films. Rlje Films will release the alien invasion film in theaters, on demand and across digital platforms in early 2023. A Shudder release will follow later in the year.

Hulu has released an official trailer for “The Girl From Plainville” — a limited series inspired by the true story of Michelle Carter’s “texting suicide” case.

Based on Jesse Barron’s Esquire article of the same name, “The Girl From Plainville” dives into Carter’s (Elle Fanning) relationship with Conrad Roy III (Colton Ryan) and his following death, which led to her conviction of involuntary manslaughter.

“All he thought about was dying… I really just wanted to help him,” says Fanning’s Carter in the gripping trailer, which is full of unsettling text messages and moments both following and leading up to Roy’s death.

In addition to Fanning and Ryan, the series also stars Chloë Sevigny as Lynn Roy, Cara Buono as Gail Carter, Kai Lennox as David Carter and Norbert Leo Butz as Conrad Roy II.

Exclusive: Jason Eisener (Dark Side Of The Ring) is helming Kids Vs Aliens, a sci-fi horror that follows what happens when aliens attack a house party.

Principal photography has wrapped on the pic, which reunites the team behind 2011 cult horror hit Hobo with a Shotgun, with Eisener directing from a script co-written with John Davies and Rob Cotterill (Possessor) producing.

Josh Goldbloom for Cinepocalypse Productions (V/H/S/94) is a producer in association with V/H/S franchise producer Brad Miska for Bloody Disgusting, who re-teams with Eisener after 2013’s V/H/S/2. Also producing are Marc Tetreault and Jason Levangie of Shut Up & Colour Pictures (Suck It Up) and Rob Cotterill for Yer Dead Productions (Hobo With a Shotgun).

Jonás Cuarón’s feature Chupa has added Oscar nominee Demián Bichir, Dominic Mariche, Adriel Manzano and Isabella Patron in principal roles.

The pic follows a teenage Alex (Mariche), who while visiting his family in Mexico, gains an unlikely companion when he discovers a young chupacabra hiding in his grandpa’s shed. Aside from the members of the Midnight Society, perhaps the most prolific recurring character in the ’90s run of Are You Afraid of the Dark? was the enigmatic magician Sardo, so fans of the original series may be pleased to see a new take on the Magic Mansion owner featuring prominently in the official trailer for the second season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, titled Curse of the Shadows, which will kick off its six-episode season on Friday, February 12th on Nickelodeon.

The Midnight Society’s campfire was restoked—figuratively and literally—for the 2019 Halloween season by Nickelodeon’s Are You Afraid of the Dark? three-episode miniseries, which enticed audiences old and new for more chilling exploits from a new generation of the classic kid coterie of scare-chasers. Thus, the network subsequently greenlit Season 2, this time for six episodes, which begin their weekly run in February.

Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows is the title of Season 2, indicating that the series will again eschew its classic single-episode story format to utilize the entirety of a season to tell one epic story, having moved on from the 2019 miniseries storyline centered on demented ringmaster Mr. Tophat and his Carnival of Doom. Moreover, we’re already getting an all-new Midnight Society; a lineup tasked with pursuing a mysterious creature called the Shadowman.

One of my favorite viewing experiences this year was finally catching up on Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival, and while I'm bummed that the characters from the first season won't be returning, I'm still thrilled to see whatever the new Midnight Society cooks up next around the campfire.

With the new season of Are You Afraid of the Dark? premiering sometime in 2021, Nickelodeon is celebrating the New Year a bit early with their first teaser video for the new season that reveals its official title: Curse of the Shadows.

While the first season of the Are You Afraid of the Dark? revival (titled Carnival of Doom) featured three episodes, the new season will comprise six episodes.
