Freakier Friday Has a Sneaky Reunion for Lindsay Lohan & Parent Trap Co-Star 27 Years Later
Image
Freakier Friday is the sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday, and it marks a comeback of sorts for Lindsay Lohan. And the film's director even worked in a cameo from another beloved Lohan movie.

None other than Elaine Hendrix, who played Meredith Blake opposite Lohan in 1998's The Parent Trap, got on board for Freakier Friday. She had lost contact with Lohan a little over the years - after all, when they met, Lohan was still a child - but a text from director Nisha Ganatra, who so happens to be one of Hendrix's good friends, brought her back into Lohan's orbit. She told Entertainment Weekly all about it.

"I got to physically see her, and we spent a lot of time together on set, hanging out, reminiscing, and catching up. Now, we’re better about staying in touch with one another," Hendrix told the publication. In Freakier Friday she'll...

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis star in a trailer with more pop than bubble gum for Freakier Friday

The older I get, the more I realize that neither my parents nor teachers properly prepared me for the wonders and horrors of adulthood. At 44, bills are gobbling my bank account like Pac-Man eats Power Pellets, and a Nintendo Switch 2 costs nearly $900 Canadian. Inflation, baby! If I had switched bodies with an adult back in the day, it could have provided some much-needed perspective about the crushing reality of middle age. Today, Disney is ready to make people across the age spectrum feel the burn with its latest trailer for Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to the 2003 comedy starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis.

The upcoming cinematic romp brings the bodyswap mechanic back with style as the switcharoo magic extends to other members of the Coleman family. In addition to the Freakier Friday trailer, Disney dropped a new poster for the film featuring Lohan and Curtis mugging for the...

New Freakier Friday Trailer Sees Lindsay Lohan Trying to Flirt With Chad Michael Murray
Image
Disney decided to make this Friday a little freakier by dropping the official trailer for Freakier Friday. The upcoming legacy sequel reunites Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan for the first time since the original Freaky Friday in 2003.

Picking up more than two decades after Tess and Anna endured an identity crisis in Freaky Friday, the long-awaited sequel reveals that Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. Unfortunately, just as Anna wasn't too keen on her mom remarrying in the 2003 original, her daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), isn't exactly thrilled that she'll soon be step-sisters with Lily (Sophia Hammons). After Vanessa Bayer's fortune teller causes Anna, Tess, Harper, and Lily to swap bodies, the teenagers quickly hatch a scheme to ruin their parents' forthcoming wedding, which includes trying to get Anna back together with her old boyfriend Jake, played by Chad Michael Murray, which doesn't go as planned.

"I was talking to the writers and showrunners yesterday and told them, ‘I don’t know if you realize, but this is the first time where I don’t have to have a romantic interest, where I don’t have to kiss someone at the end of the movie.’ Which is so refreshing—to not have to be that girl for once," Lohan said of the project."

'Freakier Friday' Team Wanted Sequel to Fix "Hurtful" Asian Stereotypes
Image
The team behind Freakier Friday, the sequel to Disney's 2003 comedy Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, have promised that the upcoming movie will correct the most "problematic" part of the original. The follow-up comes more than two decades after the first film, and while the sequel aims to retain many elements that made the body-swapping film so popular, Freakier Friday director Nisha Ganatra has admitted that she had the "complicated" task of reassessing the first film and making some necessary changes.

Ganatra told Entertainment Weekly that her Freakier Friday checklist included fixing the 2003 film's "hurtful" Asian stereotypes. She felt the past portrayal of two characters in particular needed to be addressed, making reference to Chinese restaurant owner Pei-Pei (Rosalind Chao) and her mother (Lucille Soong), who famously served Anna (Lohan) and Tess (Curtis) the magical fortune cookies that led to their body-swap. Chao and Soong are both...

Jamie Lee Curtis Nearly Turned Down the Original Freaky Friday (& for Good Reason)
Image
Freaky Friday was nearly a very different movie. Instead of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, it was originally meant to star Annette Bening and Michelle Trachtenberg. When Bening dropped out, the producers contacted Curtis - but she wasn't sure.

Curtis had a 15-year-old and a 5-year-old at home, and she wasn't willing to leave them to go be a mother to a fictional 15-year-old. She would only sign onto the movie if it was going to be filming near to her home. "If it filmed outside California, I wouldn't have been in the movie," she told Entertainment Weekly as part of their coverage for Freaky Friday's sequel, Freakier Friday.

She went on, "If it shot in Vancouver, I wouldn't have done it, because I had kids," And that made her relate to the themes of the movie, especially the journey her character Tess goes on. "Balancing motherhood is...

'Problematic Asian Representation': Freakier Friday Director on the Original Film's 'Hurtful' Stereotypes
Image
The director of Freakier Friday wanted to do one thing very differently from the original movie. Nisha Ganatra set out to remove the Asian stereotypes from the sequel to the Noughties classic.

Though Freaky Friday is beloved, some have commented on the Asian stereotypes present within the film. The reason Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna (Lindsay Lohan) body-swap is because of some fortune cookies given to them by an old Chinese lady. Anna later calls this out with a yell of, “She did something, some strange Asian voodoo.” To a modern-day audience, that line could be interpreted as racist by some viewers.

Back in the Noughties, there was not as much concern with casting in Hollywood about anti-racism and Asian representation... but now, massive strides have been made. Ganatra wants to continue those strides. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, she described the Asian portrayal in the first movie as "complicated,...

'We Begged Her:' Original Freaky Friday Star Refused To Appear In Upcoming Sequel
Image
Fans of Freaky Friday shouldn't hold their breath when it comes to seeing one original franchise star making a cameo appearance in the sequel, Freaky Friday. Nisha Ganatra, the sequel's director, revealed how hard she tried to get the actor to return.

Long before Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis starred in the 2003 theatrical film, a young Jodie Foster launched the franchise as Annabel Andrews in the original Disney adaptation of Mary Rodgers' 1972 novel. Despite being the star that catapulted Freaky Friday to worldwide recognition, Foster doesn't seem to have any interest in returning. "We begged her," Ganatra told Entertainment Weekly. "She's not going to do it."

People went on to report how Ganatra had a plan ready for Foster to make a nostalgic cameo in Freakier Friday. "We were going to make her the principal at the school," the filmmaker explained. "Honestly, we tried everything." She also claimed that...

Twenty-two years later, the sequel, Freakier Friday, is gearing up for its highly anticipated August 8, 2025, release date. The duo have been vocal about how their relationship, nostalgia, and motherhood played a part in reviving their beloved roles. For Lohan specifically, being a mom gave her new insight into how to play a mature version of Anna Coleman.

The stars and their characters have grown since viewers last saw them as Anna and Tess Coleman, a mom and daughter who ate fortune cookies and magically switched bodies as a result. Curtis is now an Academy Award winner, and Lohan has broken out of the child star image,...

The first trailer for Freakier Friday shows some surprising twists for the body-swap sequel!
Image
It’s time to get Freaky again as the first trailer for Freakier Friday has hit and taking us back to the 2000s for another Disney sequel.

The “nostalgia sequel” has been a big trend in Hollywood lately. Studios have enjoyed producing sequels to past films of the 1990s or 2000s with the same actors reprising their roles amid new stories. They can range from the Scream series to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and more and are an easy way to get fans nostalgic.

Now, Disney is leaping into it with Freakier Friday. The 2003 film was one of the bigger hits of that year, another adaptation of the best-selling book about a mother and daughter who swap bodies on a Friday.

In this case, Jamie Lee Curtis played Tess, a psychologist clashing with her punk rock daughter Anna, played by Lindsay Lohan. Thanks to a magical fortune cookie, the two swap bodies...

Lilo and Stitch trailer nearly breaks Disney record

Disney unveiled the Lilo and Stitch trailer on March 12, and in just 24 hours it amassed 158 million views, which was the second most for a live-action Disney film, behind only 2019's photorealistic The Lion King. It ranked as the No. 1 trend on Twitter and YouTube. Does that bode well for the film's box office when it's released on May 23? Well, The Lion King remake ended up grossing $1.66 billion worldwide.

Lilo and Stitch, based on the 2002 animated film, is about a friendship between a Hawaiian girl and a fugitive alien. It's directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, Hannah Waddingham, Chris Sanders, Courtney B. Vance, Zach Galifianakis, and newcomer Maia Kealoha.

‘Freakier Friday’ Teaser Trailer: Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Pull Another Switcheroo
Image
Scroll through the Freakier Friday YouTube comment section, and after the “Chad Michael Murray” and “Lindsay Lohan back on the big screen” comments, you’ll see viewers praising an actual live-action Disney movie that isn’t adapted from a Disney animated feature or based on a comic book. Sure, it’s a sequel. But at least it’s a follow-up to a popular live-action film and not a remake, do-over, or reimagining of a classic animated film.

Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) reprises her role as Tess Coleman, and Lindsay Lohan returns as Anna Coleman. Also reprising their roles from 2003’s Freaky Friday are the aforementioned Murray along with Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Julia Butters, Vanessa Bayer, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan also star in the body-swapping comedy.

Freakier Friday is now the body swap movie we never thought would happen—bringing back Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis for another hilarious and chaotic adventure. After 22 years, the stars have aligned: Lohan is experiencing a Hollywood renaissance, and Curtis recently won an Oscar. Now, Disney is making the unexpected sequel a reality. For years, the idea of a direct sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday seemed like a pipe dream. However, fan nostalgia and the perfect timing in both stars’ careers have paved the way for their return. In the original 2003 film, Anna (Lohan) and her mother Tess (Curtis) were a mother-daughter duo who struggled to get along. While at a Chinese restaurant, they had a heated argument,...

'Freakier Friday' Trailer Unveils Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan Return
Image
Disney has released the first trailer for Freakier Friday, and it certainly looks like it will live up to the title, with two times the body swapping. Freakier Friday is a legacy sequel to 2003's Freaky Friday, which itself was a remake of a 1976 Disney film of the same name. Freaky Friday starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan and a mother and daughter, respectively, who one day find themselves swapping bodies, needing to learn how the other one lives to understand them better and return to their original bodies.

Disney has released the first trailer for Freakier Friday, directed by Late Night's Nisha Ganatra. Curtis and Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman, respectively. Here, the premise is a double body swap, with Lohan's Anna swapping bodies with her daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and Tess switching with Lily Davies (Sophia Hammons), the daughter of Anna's new boyfriend.
