Breaking Bear has just been announced, and the animated show is set to feature a standout voice cast that includes Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Fraser will be best known to many for leading the cast of The Mummy (1999) and its two sequels, but he has also appeared in a host of other film projects, recently experiencing a major acting comeback with his Oscar-winning performance in The Whale (2022). Gellar, on the other hand, rose to fame around the same time with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and recently appeared in Dexter: Original Sin.
Per Deadline, Fraser, Gellar, Annie Murphy, Elizabeth Hurley, and Josh Gad have been cast to lead Breaking Bear, a new adult animated series from Tubi. The series, which is created by Julien Nitzberg, is said to parody the tropes of mobster movies, with the report stating that the show will be akin to a comedic combination of Yogi Bear and The Sopranos.

Exclusive: Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek), Elizabeth Hurley (The Royals) and Josh Gad (Frozen) will lead the voice cast for Tubi’s new adult animated series Breaking Bear.
The series parodies the tropes of mobster dramas, comically combining elements of characters like Yogi Bear with series like The Sopranos. It hails from Julien Nitzberg (The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia), Evoke Entertainment and Tom DeLonge’s To The Stars Media.
Created by Nitzberg, Breaking Bear is billed as “a fur-flying, law-breaking, forest-saving rampage following a dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home. As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage.

Mighty Mouse is on his way to the big screen, and Ryan Reynolds is here to save the day. Mighty Mouse debuted in 1942 as Super Mouse, a superhero mouse that is a cross between Mickey Mouse and Superman. The character starred in 80 theatrical shorts from 1942 to 1961, and experienced a resurgence in popularity thanks to his 1955 Saturday morning cartoon. While the character has seemingly fallen out of popularity, Paramount Pictures is looking to relaunch the tiny hero with the help of a big superhero actor.
According to Variety, Paramount Animation has enlisted Ryan Reynolds' production company, Maximum Effort, to produce a Mighty Mouse movie. Matt Liberman, who previously co-wrote Reynolds's 2021 film Free Guy, will pen the script. Liberman is no stranger to family films, as his other writing credits include Scoob!, The Addams Family, and The Christmas Chronicles. While Reynolds is signed on as a producer, it is currently unknown...

Hanna-Barbera's iconic cartoon characters continue to be relevant in the 21st century, standing the test of time. The studio's unique blend of anthropomorphized animals and memorable human characters made for unforgettable cartoons. By combining their recognizable artistic style with great comedic writing, Hanna-Barbera created timeless characters that stand out from the crowd.
During their heyday, the Hanna-Barbera animation studio created some of the most popular cartoon characters of the 20th Century. William Hanna and Joseph Barbera first rose to fame when they created the iconic cat and mouse duo Tom and Jerry, but they went on to establish their own studio. Hanna-Barbera's best cartoons have stood the test of time, and they have inspired countless spinoffs and reboots. What's perhaps more impressive is that the original shows from the 1960s and 1970s still get played on TV today.

(Welcome to Animation Celebration, a recurring feature where we explore the limitless possibilities of animation as a medium. In this edition: season 3 of "Clone High" and "Jellystone!")
Animation fans (and fans of good movies regardless of style) have been thrust into an emotional tornado spinning as wildly as the Tasmanian Devil regarding the release of director Dave Green ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") and writer Samy Burch's ("May December") live-action/animated hybrid Looney Tunes courtroom flick, "Coyote vs. Acme." What should be an absolute no-brainer hit at the box office is at risk of being scrapped for a tax write-off despite positive test screenings, the result of yet another frustrating corporate decision prioritizing capitalism over creativity, and an all-out attack on the art of filmmaking.
Of course, you realize, this means war.

Hanna-Barbera's iconic cartoons span from delightful classics like Scooby-Doo to forgettable titles like Magilla Gorilla. The cultural impact of Hanna-Barbera's cartoons is key when valuing each show, from the popular Yogi Bear to lesser-known characters like Magilla Gorilla. Characters like Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry are deeply rooted in pop culture, while others like Magilla Gorilla haven't had the same lasting impact.
From Scooby-Doo to Superfriends, the Hanna-Barbera animation studio developed some of the most iconic cartoons of all time, though they range significantly in quality. William Hannah and Joseph Barbera were animators initially known for co-creating Tom & Jerry in the 1940s. The story of World Championship Wrestling is one of an amazing rise but then a tragic fall that was hard to watch. While the American wrestling promotion spent much of its early days as second best, WCW figured itself out at a time when the World Wrestling Federation was destroying itself in the ’90s. WCW rose up and became what seemed like an unstoppable force before tripping on its own success while WWF recovered from its mistakes and regained traction. Having lost all that momentum, WCW did itself no favors by spending the next several years making every single bad decision possible. They absolutely could not get a win if they tried.
Now the dead promotion is considered a cautionary tale and a pile-on for jokes about the Shockmaster, David Arquette, the Fingerpoke of Doom, Hulk Hogan being humped by a giant mummy, the fumbling of Steve Austin, Judy Bagwell on a forklift,...

In the early 2000s, "A Will Ferrell movie" very much slotted into the cinema-viewing lexicon. It was famed for a new, wild actor who blew up the screen with his outraged child-in-a-middle-aged man body. His curly hair, innocent eyes, and rabid smile housed a tremendously talented comedy actor who really was a new breed of clown. With his long frame, podgy fleshy torso, and brash, obnoxious acting style, Will Ferrell was a hat and a tie away from being a human version of Yogi Bear. Ferrell is everyman-shaped but possesses the comedy timing of a Lamborghini.

Jimmy Weldon, the cheery ventriloquist, kids TV host and actor who provided the voice for the endangered duck Yakky Doodle on Hanna-Barbera cartoons starting in the early 1960s, has died. He was 99.
Weldon’s death on Thursday in Paso Robles, California, was reported by American Legion Post 43 in Hollywood, where he was chaplain emeritus.
With the puppet Webster Webfoot, a duck he created in the 1940s, Weldon hosted TV shows for youngsters in New York, Los Angeles and cities in the San Joaquin Valley. The Texan also appeared on episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Dragnet, The Waltons, S.W.A.T., B.J. and the Bear, Dallas, The Rockford Files, Diff’rent Strokes and It’s a Living.
Weldon voiced Yakky Doodle, a yellow duckling with green wings who is constantly being bailed out of trouble by his best friend, a protective bulldog named Chopper, on recurring segments of The Yogi Bear Show in 1961-62.

At this point, the accepted line on "The Simpsons" is that it hasn't been good for decades, which is sort of true, even if the new seasons suggest otherwise. Now that the show is on Disney+ and has been fully integrated into the house of mouse, it has seemingly completed its transformation into exactly the kind of commercialized pop culture product it once so deftly lampooned. But while it's easy to take shots at a show that's been on the air since the late-'80s one thing you simply can't knock is the voice acting talent.
Since 1989, the central cast has remained unchanged, with Dan Castellaneta, Yeardley Smith, Julie Kavner, and Nancy Cartwright giving voice to Matt Groening's original vision of the modern American family for 34 seasons straight. But back when "The Simpsons" was getting started, none of the cast could have known what they were signing up for.

Behind Colin Trevorrow's cameo in Jurassic World is a sad history rooted in the original Jurassic Park movie. Trevorrow, who directed all three Jurassic World movies, had a voice cameo in the first installment in the trilogy. The small role in the film involved Trevorrow voicing a cartoon character named Mr. DNA.

Tubi has greenlit “Breaking Bear,” an adult animated series created by Julien Nitzberg and produced by Cartel Entertainment and Tom DeLonge’s To the Stars Media.
Described as a parody of mobster dramas, combining elements of Yogi Bear with “The Sopranos,” “Breaking Bear” Breaking Bear follows the escapades of three bear siblings who decide they have to start selling drugs in order to raise money and save their home after gas companies start fracking next to their cave. The bears soon enlist other forest animals in a scheme that will pit them against oil companies, the Russian mafia, local Hell’s Angels and polar bears who hate anything that isn’t white.
“When The Cartel pitched a series with cartoon animals as mobsters, I knew it was an offer I couldn’t refuse,” said Adam Lewinson, chief content officer at Tubi. “This is the perfect project to expand our adult animation...
