While Sam Wilson is about to take flight as the new Captain America this Friday, the man who failed to take up the shield, John Walker, will be arriving on the big screen with Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova and the rest of the “Thunderbolts*” this summer.
In a new Super Bowl trailer, we see Valentina Allegra de Fontaine bring her plan for a replacement for the Avengers out to the public with a team of misfits from the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Disney+ shows.
Along with the former Winter Soldier, the new Black Widow and the deadly U.S. agent, Fontaine has brought in “Black Widow” villain-turned-antihero Taskmaster, Yelena’s father Red Guardian and the mysterious Ghost, who is now able to control her ability to phase through walls after the events of “Ant-Man and the Wasp.”
Much like the Avengers before them, the Thunderbolts have a hard time working together.

Born in Philadelphia, James Darren created magic on the screen with his acting prowess and well-acclaimed projects. But out of the lot, the most famous would be his portrayal of eccentric lounge singer Vic Fontaine in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. While the actor entered the show in its last two seasons, he created a name for himself that people would remember for generations to come.

James Darren, the wildly diverse singer-actor who scored Billboard hits and was featured in everything from Gidget to Tj Hooker to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has passed away. He was 88.
Although James Darren got his career going in the late ‘50s, he found entirely different audiences beginning in the ‘80s by co-starting on the William Shatner-led police drama T.J. Hooker, in which he played officer Jim Corrigan, who primarily partnered with Heather Locklear’s Stacy Sheridan.
The following decade, James Darren was able to combine his crooning and acting skills, landing the role of holographic singer Vic Fontaine in seasons six and seven of Deep Space Nine. The role was originally offered to Frank Sinatra Jr., but he turned it down. Darren himself wasn’t entirely convinced it would work, either, but the character ended up being a fan favorite and a trademark role for Darren, who not...

The Count of Monte Cristo, directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, made its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it received a resounding 11-minute standing ovation.
Produced by Pathé Films, the same company behind the acclaimed The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (2023), this film continues the studio’s tradition of bringing classic French literature to life with grandiosity and meticulous attention to detail. In France, the film has been both a box office success and a cultural event, celebrated for its faithful adaptation of a beloved classic.
The film follows the tragic tale of Edmond Dantès (played by Pierre Niney), a young and promising sailor who is falsely accused of treason and imprisoned in the dreaded Château d’If. After years of enduring unimaginable hardship, he escapes and reinvents himself as the mysterious and wealthy Count of Monte Cristo, bent on exacting revenge against those who betrayed him.

Boss fights are often the highlight of a game, offering a thrilling challenge and a satisfying conclusion, especially if they’re the final boss. They’re the culmination of everything the game has been building up to narratively.
However, not all boss battles hit the mark. Some can feel out of place, poorly designed, or simply frustrating. Here’s a look at five of the most disappointing boss fights across popular games, where the excitement and challenge just fell flat and led to disappointment.
5. The Joker The Joker boss fight just felt out of place and creatively lackluster. Image via Rocksteady
In Batman: Arkham Asylum, the final showdown with the Joker is a major letdown. Instead of facing the cunning and devious Joker fans know and love, players are up against a massive, grotesque version of the character. This gigantic Joker doesn’t fit the game’s narrative, themes, or setting.

In Genshin Impact 5.0, the new 4-star character Kachina may not be free, breaking a tradition from past region releases. Players may get a free copy of Bennett instead, which could disappoint veteran players who already have C6 Bennett. If true, this change could signal the end of a trend where players receive a free character with each new region release.
There may be an update to free characters in Genshin Impact 5.0, as seen in fresh leaks, that may devastate older players used to the games giveaways. Cryo characters in Genshin Impact excel at freezing opponents and triggering reactions like Melt. While some Cryo characters like Kaeya and Chongyun are strong choices, others like Aloy and Mika are best ignored for optimized play. Cryo characters come in a large variety when it comes to roles, being able to deal damage, heal, and provide support for the team.
Cryo characters in Genshin Impact are capable of manipulating ice powers, with Cryo being one of the six available elements in the game. There are several playable characters built around the element. Represented by a snowflake symbol, Cryo characters are oriented toward ice-based attacks and skills, and excel at freezing opponents and triggering reactions like Melt, for instance. Some Cryo users are available from the main storyline, such as Kaeya, while others require a bit more luck with the pull rates in Genshin Impact. Nevertheless, there are many great options to choose from.

In a recent interview with IndieWire, master of suspense M. Night Shyamalan admitted to not having seen French filmmaker Robert Bresson’s WWII prison thriller “A Man Escaped” until his daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan, suggested it to him.
“I remember how profoundly, when Ishana told me to watch that, it affected me,” Shyamalan said of the film. When told that his most recent film, the concert-set “Trap,” may be his version of “A Man Escaped,” Shyamalan also said, “Probably, by the way. That’s so funny you say that. Probably.”

Rotten Tomatoes is a truly fascinating thing. Though it simply works by aggregating other critics' reviews, the site itself has become, whether we like it or not, somewhat of a tastemaker for the masses. It's odd to think that a site which doesn't actually review movies itself has taken on this role as a kind of cultural arbiter, yet here we are in 2024 when AI movies will soon be a thing and Kevin Hart's "Lift" tops the Netflix most-watched charts. But before we start lamenting the cultural landscape of the moment, here's a question for you — do you know how Rotten Tomatoes works?
Everyone pretty much knows that Rt collects reviews for a film or TV show and spits out a percentage score based on how many of those reviews are positive. But how does Rotten Tomatoes judge a review to be positive? What is a "good" review? Does...

The Genshin Impact 4.3 character banners have been leaked, revealing a new hero and three reruns. The order in which the characters will appear in the banners is still unknown and speculative. The new 5-star hero has already been introduced as an Npc in the Fontaine storyline.
The Genshin Impact 4.3 character banners have been leaked before the version’s release later this year. With each update that the game receives, four limited-time banners are brought into the gacha system. Some of these banners feature new and exclusive 5-star characters, while others are reruns of heroes that were previously introduced as playable in the game. Now, it seems like all four heroes being featured in Version 4.3 have been uncovered. Leaks have been a steady source of information for HoYoverse’s popular action RPG for a while now, and have intensified in frequency and accuracy near the release of the Fontaine region in Genshin Impact.

Genshin Impact’s Fontaine character leaks and designs are starting to spread across different social media sources. Fontaine is the next region to be added to developer HoYoverse’s RPG. It is said to be the Nation of Justice and its reigning element is Hydro. According to the game itself, Fontaine's Archon is called Focalors, and she apparently watches every trial that takes place in the Genshin Impact region.
In terms of theme, from what players have seen and heard in character interactions with NPCs who hail from the nation, Fontaine is somewhat inspired by a real-life France, more specifically a hybrid between its Industrial Revolution and Belle Époque periods. The Genshin Impact Fontaine character leaks seem to reflect that. The first characters from the area who were officially announced were Genshin Impact’s Lynette and Lyney, and since then, there has been little from HoYoverse about the upcoming region.

Casting is one of the hidden arts of Hollywood, and starting June 15, the second season of The Academy Museum Podcast, “Close Up on Casting,” hosted by the Museum’s Director and President Jacqueline Stewart, delves into often misunderstood art and influence of Hollywood casting.
The audio series draws inspiration from the museum’s galleries, Stewart said during a recent small press gathering and podcast preview for the episode centered on the Hitchcock film “Rebecca.” She saw that her curators had more research and intel to share than was possible to display in the audience-favorite Performance Gallery, packed with early Polaroids of actors, audition tapes, and casting directors’ notes, which deserves to be expanded. The typewritten list of actresses considered for producer David O. Selznick’s production of “Rebecca” (1940), for example, is priceless, with often snarky and misogynist descriptions by each name.

The Oscars have always been a battleground of sorts. In recent years, the ceremony has become a public event arbitrating issues of race, gender, and privilege in cinema and society. But throughout its 94-year history, the Academy Awards mediated some very different battles. There have been attempts to square petty power plays, wars with the Academy itself, and even attempts to take down a gay Oscars producer.

Mirren stars as Meir. Jane Hooks and Michael Kuhn are producers on the pic. Embankment is handling sales.
Other titles added to the program include Netflix’s Kill Boksoon. Jeon Do-Yeon, who won the best actress award at Cannes in 2007 for Secret Sunshine, stars in the pic, which follows a single mother and renowned hired killer who struggles to find a balance between her personal and work life.

Genshin Impact has revealed the existence of the Descenders in version 3.2, where the Traveler learned about them through Nahida. According to her, the Descenders are outer beings who have entered Teyvat, and so far, the Fatui has recorded four beings who have descended. Nahida has revealed the two Descenders’ identities, but the rest are still a mystery. The Primordial One and the Second Who Came, however, are the most likely candidates to be Descenders.
[Warning: The following article contains spoilers for Genshin Impact]
Nahida speculates the first Descender is the Heavenly Principle and says the Traveler is the fourth; however, their sibling is not considered a Descender because the Fatui considers the sibling as someone from Teyvat; however, the Traveler still believes that they and their sibling are both from outside Teyvat. Suffice it to say, the revelation of the Descenders' existence has added more mysteries to Genshin Impact's story and plot.

Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe started by breaking new ground with "WandaVision," the first live-action TV show that was properly connected to the movies. But with the release of "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," Phase 4 is officially in the books with a movie that, among many other things, serves as a touching goodbye to Chadwick Boseman and T'Challa.
But, as is almost always the case in the MCU, this movie also did a lot of work setting up things for the future. Sure, that absolutely includes a brand new Black Panther, but it also may well have set the stage for the end of Phase 5 as well. Indeed, if we're reading the tea leaves correctly, director Ryan Coogler planted the seeds that will blossom into the "Thunderbolts" movie here in a couple of years. Let's do some speculating on the matter, shall we?
Warning: spoilers ahead for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

This article contains spoilers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
If there’s one thing that Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever nailed, it was a surprise cameo that no one saw coming. Away from the shock return of Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, the writers managed to keep a lid on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Alongside nods to Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and trade agreements with New Asgard, Wakanda Forever has a major tie to the wider MCU that sets up Jake Schreier’s Thunderbolts.
Hoping to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s answer to DC’s Suicide Squad, the Thunderbolts are a shady cabal of anti-heroes pulled directly from the pages of Marvel Comics. Although some have questioned a Captain America-heavy lineup that includes John Walker/US Agent (Wyatt Russell) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), others think it makes perfect sense given where the franchise is right now.

John Boyega, Jamie Foxx and Teyonah Parris are teaming up as an unlikely trio that stumbles across a shocking conspiracy in “They Cloned Tyrone,” a genre-jumping sci-fi mystery directed by “Creed II” screenwriter Juel Taylor in his feature debut which got its first trailer as part of Netflix’s Tudum showcase.
Boyega plays Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer who somehow survives being shot by his rival without a scratch on him. After waiting for over two years, we finally have our first look at John Boyega's latest foray into sci-fi with "They Cloned Tyrone." The former Black List script has finally been adapted into feature-length, and thank goodness it has because this new trailer showcases some wild stuff.
The trailer showcases our unlikely band of heroes coming together. You've got Fontaine (Boyega), Yo-Yo (Teyonah Parris), and Slick Charles (Jamie Foxx), bound only by happenstance after they discover a bizarre secret in their city.
What kind of secret do they discover? While the true extent of it will likely not be revealed until the film's release, let's just say it's the type that involves human experimentation and bizarre technologies. While it's pretty clear the trio can't stand each other, they must put their differences beside them in order to save their city from this danger. If this isn't sci-fi throwback pulp,...

Three friends stumble onto a bomb of information when they uncover a cloning operation in the first trailer for the Netflix film They Cloned Tyrone.
The film stars John Boyega as Fontaine, Teyonah Parris as Yo-Yo and Jamie Foxx as Slick, a trio who after hopping an elevator down to a hidden lab, discover a government conspiracy that’s “not just a theory.” Now, the trio has to find out how to crack the “major league” government-sponsored experiment they suddenly find themselves in knowledge of.
In the two-minute teaser, the trio is first seen, guns in hand, goofing off in an elevator before walking out into a room filled with testing and experiment equipment occupied by a single man in a lab coat.
“What kind of shit is this?” Slick whispers, gun raised before telling a trembling Yo-Yo “don’t touch shit.”

Last week’s Friday Fright Nights feature was the slasher Scare Zone, which was set in and around a haunted house attraction. So I suggested that any independent filmmakers out there who have access to haunted house attractions should also base a story around that location. This week’s feature can serve as inspiration for aspiring filmmakers and indie filmmakers as well. It’s a found footage horror film called The Andy Baker Tape,...
