Inside The Cathedral: Jimmy Carter’s Funeral Brings D.C. Together To Remember A “Bygone Era”, And To Be Reminded Of A Donald Trump Future
Image
When Joe Biden eulogized Jimmy Carter in the majestic surroundings of Washington National Cathedral on Thursday, he said of his predecessor, “Many think he was from a bygone era, but he saw into the future.”

As other speakers noted, Carter was prescient on a host of issues including climate change and women’s rights, but inside the cathedral were reminders that when it comes to politics, the future looks much different than the late president probably could have ever envisioned it.

Carter’s adviser Stuart Eizenstat noted that much of Carter’s agenda passed with bipartisan support in the 1970s; at the cathedral today, in the area reserved for members of Congress, there were only a handful of Republicans. Many seats were empty.

Steve Ford read the eulogy that his father, President Gerald Ford, had written for his one-time rival, whom he called “old friend.” At the service, Donald Trump...

Karamo Brown’s Political Views Inspired A Severe Backlash From Queer Eye Fans
Image
Throughout Netflix's history, the streaming service giant has hired A-list actors to headline films and produced TV shows featuring many celebrities. Despite how much those stars must have been paid, many users care much more about Netflix's reality shows. While there is some debate about which Netflix reality shows are the best, Queer Eye has been celebrated since the revival of the influential original series premiered.

As every Queer Eye fan knows, the show's stars have become so famous that Jonathan Van Ness can charge a fortune for a haircut. However, that doesn't mean that Queer Eye's fans have always been happy with the show's cast. For example, Karamo Brown once suffered a backlash from some fans for one of his political opinions.

Former First Lady Melania Trump has agreed to a sit-down interview with the Fox News Channel’s Ainsley Earhardt, the network said on Monday.

The interview, scheduled to air on Thursday, will mark the former First Lady’s first TV interview in more than two years. She is expected to discuss her upcoming memoir, the Trump campaign’s strategy heading into Election Day in November, the two assassination attempts on her husband and other matters, Fox News said.

Earhardt is the co-host of the highly rated morning news and discussion program “Fox & Friends.” Former President Donald Trump spoke with the program following his participation in the ABC News Presidential Debate earlier this month. He has appeared on the news channel several times since clinching the presidential nomination for the Republican Party this summer.

What To Expect On The Third Night Of The Republican Convention: Will Hurricane Laura Make For A Split-Screen Evening?
Image
The highlight of the third night of the Republican National Convention will be speeches by Vice President Mike Pence and the second lady of the United States, Karen Pence, but there is another major news story looming: Hurricane Laura.

Throughout the day on Wednesday, news networks already were doing a split screen tracker of the hurricane, which is posing a threat to the Gulf Coast as a potential category four storm as it makes landfall. That is projected on the Louisiana and Texas coasts sometime late in the evening or Thursday morning.

Convention planners have not yet said how or if the oncoming hurricane will be addressed during the evening’s events, or if any plans are changing.

This actually is not a new thing for political conventions – which often land in August, at the start of hurricane season. In 2008, Republicans canceled most of the events planned for the first...

Stephen Colbert
Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon celebrated the 50th anniversary of Earth Day — and took a few easy digs at how President Donald Trump marked the occasion himself — on their late-night shows Wednesday.

Trump hosted a tree-planting ceremony at the White House Wednesday, even shoveling a bit of dirt himself — or as Colbert called it on The Late Show, “getting his exercise for the decade.” Colbert then broke out his Trump impression and quipped, “I’ve gotten a lot of practice at my press conferences; every day I just...

Lady Gaga to Mike Pence: ‘You Are the Worst Representation of What It Means to Be a Christian’
Lady Gaga at an event for The 67th Primetime Emmy Awards (2015)
Lady Gaga criticized Vice President Mike Pence during the singer’s Enigma concert Saturday night in Las Vegas.

Earlier in the week, Pence’s wife Karen revealed she would resume teaching at a Christian school that barred Lgbtq students and employees. Following the uproar over Karen Pence’s role at the school, the vice president responded, “To see major news organizations attacking Christian education is deeply offensive to us.”

On Saturday, during her performance of “Million Reasons,” Gaga slammed Pence for thinking “it’s acceptable that his wife work at a school that bans Lgbtq.

Lady Gaga Gets Political During Enigma Performance
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga in A Star is Born (2018)
When she isn't winning awards for her talent in A Star Is Born, Lady Gaga can be found in Las Vegas speaking her mind. The singer got political during her Enigma show on Saturday night and doubled down on President Donald Trump as well as Vice President Mike Pence. Gaga also made some blatant digs at Pence's wife, Karen Pence, whose new part-time job struck up some major controversy. Karen Pence recently accepted a role to teach art at Immanuel Christian School in Virginia. According to Washington Post, part of the school's employee standards says, "I understand that the term 'marriage' has only one meaning; the uniting of one man and one woman in a single,...

Mike Pence Finds Criticism of His Right to Discriminate ‘Offensive’
MIFF 2016
Last week, Rep. Steve King (R-ia) told the New York Times that he doesn’t understand why the terms “white supremacy” and “white nationalism” are offensive. Though King’s racism has been well-established, House Republicans made a show of denouncing the comments and on Monday stripped King of his committee assignments. President Trump has yet to comment. Same goes for Vice President Pence, although on Friday an aide to the vice president authorized to comment on background told Rolling Stone that “Congressman King’s comments were abhorrent and unacceptable and...

John Oliver’s Bunny Children’s Book Is Beating the Hell out of Mike Pence’s on Amazon
John Oliver in Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (2014)
In the battle of the bunny books, John Oliver is the clear winner. The family of Vice President Mike Pence released a children’s book on Monday written from the perspective of the family’s pet rabbit, Marlon Bundo. Unfortunately for the nation’s second family, the HBO personality released his own version on Sunday. Oliver’s features a gay Bundo, by the way, and its sales and reviews are kicking the carrots out of Karen Pence’s publication. The “Last Week Tonight” host’s “A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo” is currently No. 1 in audiobooks on Amazon, and it boasts a five-star rating....

‘Our Cartoon President’ on Showtime: Stephen Colbert’s animated program hopes to shake up Emmys … bigly
“Our Cartoon President,” Showtime’s animated comedy that skewers Donald Trump‘s White House, is hoping to shake up the 2018 Emmys … bigly. Best Animated Program has seen its fair share of repeat winners over the years, with 10-time champ “The Simpsons” being the granddaddy of all. “South Park” is next at three wins, followed by “Bob’s Burgers,” “Futurama” and “Star Wars: Clone Wars” with two apiece. But “Our Cartoon President” has a secret weapon that could help it break through with Emmy voters: co-creator Stephen Colbert.

Colbert is an Emmy favorite, winning nine trophies over the years for writing and producing both “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” As the star of CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” he was tasked with hosting last year’s Emmy ceremony to great fanfare.

Donald Trump Is Our Cartoon President: Grade the Series Premiere

Homer Simpson, Peter Griffin… Donald Trump?!

Showtime on Sunday introduced Our Cartoon President, which puts our current Potus at the center of his own workplace comedy. The Trump caricature, spun-off from The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, is joined by a supporting “cast” comprised of his most-trusted advisers (sons Eric and Donald Jr.), his closest allies (Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and goblin-esque Attorney General Jeff Sessions) and whatever the heck Ted Cruz is supposed to be. Much of what’s shown in the premiere isn’t too far off from (alleged) reality: Trump begins his day flipping through...

Melania Trump Follows Only Five People on Twitter -- And One of Them Is Barack Obama
Melania Trump
Melania Trump is far from the most active Flotus to ever take to Twitter. In fact, the first lady has 9.77 million followers on her @Flotus account but follows only five people.

It seems worth noting that one of them is her husband’s predecessor and longtime political target, former President Barack Obama.

British novelist Matt Haig brought this interesting tidbit to Twitter’s (and our) attention on Friday, when he tweeted: “It’s a lovely bit of husband-trolling that Melania Trump only follows five people and one of them is Barack Obama.”

The first lady also follows husband Donald Trump’s personal and presidential accounts,...
