Suhani Kanwar(II)
- Writer
Suhani is an Indian screenwriter interested in telling stories from a feminist perspective and exploring popular genres through a female gaze. She has been writing for film, series, and television for over fifteen years.
Suhani grew up at sea on the Atlantic Ocean as well as in suburban Noida, the stark contrast between her two childhoods probably the reason for a restlessness that could only be cured by writing. She studied at Miranda House, Delhi University, and at MCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia. Suhani's first screenplay was selected for the Berlinale Talent Campus 2007, the British Council Writing Lab 2008, and subsequently funded by filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda. Suhani has been writing professionally since.
Her latest show is Hotstar's Dil Bekaraar, a nostalgic romance directed by Habib Faisal, for which she received "Best Adapted Screenplay" at the SWA awards. Her other works include filmmaker Deepa Mehta's dystopian drama Leila and Patrick Graham's zombie thriller Betaal, both on Netflix. She co-wrote the assertive feminist dramedy Lipstick Under My Burkha with Alankrita Srivastava, created and wrote the television show Swim Team (Channel V / Endemol India) and wrote several episodes of the historical drama Siyasat (Epic TV).
