Kira Fontana(I)

Composer Kira Fontana received her Bachelors of Music in Composition from the Eastman School of Music, and her Masters of Music from the Yale School of Music on a full scholarship. Influenced by her main musical mentors, legendary minimalist composers Steve Reich and John Adams, Fontana writes riveting music for film that forges new ground while powerfully realizing the director's vision. Fontana's award-winning music has been performed and recorded by some of the top classical musicians in the world, including members of New York's acclaimed contemporary ensembles Alarm Will Sound and So Percussion. Her private composition teachers include Pulitzer Prize winners David Lang (Oscar-nominated), Steven Stucky, and Christopher Rouse, as well as Charles Ives Living Award winner Martin Bresnick. Based in Los Angeles, Fontana is also an accomplished singer-songwriter.

In 2015, Fontana composed the original film score for KEDi, a feature documentary directed by Ceyda Torun (Official Selection: Vancouver International Film Festival, Seattle International Film Festival, Full Frame Festival, Sheffield Doc Fest, Melbourne International Film Festival, Istanbul Independent Film Festival). Set in Istanbul, KEDi explores the hundreds of thousands of cats roaming the metropolis freely - a tradition that dates back thousands of years. Claiming no owners, these animals live between two worlds, neither wild nor tame. Oscilloscope will release the film theatrically in North America in early 2017, following audience awards and sold out screenings in it's fall 2016 festival run.
