Many diehard fans complain that Will does not look like how he was described in the book, which was tall and blond, since Ramón Rodríguez is dark and Latino.

However, his version still features the essence of the character. He acts socially awkward, and connects to Will’s storylines, making viewers feel for his intense trauma with foster care and dyslexia.

For the past three seasons, Ramón Rodríguez has played the highly intelligent and observant yet socially awkward and often misunderstood detective in ABC’s cop drama “Will Trent,” which is adapted from Karin Slaughter’s bestselling books. We’re only a few weeks removed from the Will Trent Season 3 finale, and the show’s star is already pulling back the curtain on what to expect in Season 4. Will Trent was renewed for a fourth season roughly halfway through Season 3, and ABC confirmed not long ago that it plans to debut the next season before the end of the year. Starring in the lead role of Will Trent in the hit drama series is Ramón Rodriguez, known for his work in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Battle Los Angeles, and Need for Speed. Rodriguez directed the Season 3 premiere earlier this year, and during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, he was asked if he has any plans to continue directing on the show.

"I will definitely be directing at least one episode next season. It makes the most sense for me to direct the premiere as I did this past season.

Will Trent star Ramón Rodriguez just dropped a huge update on the future of his hit ABC procedural series. Will Trent first debuted on ABC at the beginning of 2023, and the show has released new seasons each of the last two years. To no one’s surprise, it was performing exceedingly well during its third season, and ABC decided to move forward with Season 4 before the end of Season 3. ABC is renewing four dramas and one comedy series, Variety has learned.

The Disney-owned broadcaster has picked up new seasons of “9-1-1,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Rookie,” and “Will Trent” as well as “Shifting Gears.” The renewals will bring “9-1-1” to Season 9, “Grey’s Anatomy” to Season 22, “The Rookie” to Season 8, “Shifting Gears” to Season 2, and “Will Trent” to Season 4.

ABC had previously announced renewals for both “High Potential” and the hit comedy “Abbott Elementary.” That means that the only current ABC show still awaiting word on a renewal is “Doctor Odyssey.” ABC has opted not to order any pilots this season, but did order the “9-1-1” spinoff “9-1-1: Nashville” straight-to-series, with Chris O’Donnell set for a lead role.

Of today’s renewals, only “Shifting Gears” was seen as a toss up for a new season. The Tim Allen-Kat Dennings multi-cam suffered a noticeable drop off in the ratings since its January debut.
