Julia Bonilla, the ex-girlfriend of Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert, appeared to slam him in a series of posts on social media over the weekend.
Bonilla posted a meme that read, “When you know you can destroy their image and narrative by telling your side of the story, but then you remember rotten fruit always falls on its own.
“You have every right to speak your truth – to share what happened and how it affected you. Their discomfort isn’t your responsibility. If they wanted to be seen in a better light, they should’ve treated you better.”
She followed this post up with a series of photos of her and Gobert’s son, Romeo, and a message which said she would always protect the child, and they would soon be “home, at peace and filled with love.”

Prior to next week’s NBA trade deadline, stars like Jimmy Butler, De’Aaron Fox, and Zach Lavine were oft-mentioned on the marketplace, but no one — front-office execs, beat writers, and fans — could have fathomed that a player with the magnitude...

As the 2024 NBA Playoffs continue, the stage is set for an epic confrontation between two Western Conference powerhouses: the Minnesota Timberwolves (3) and the Denver Nuggets (2).

The Timberwolves swept through the first round over Phoenix and now stand to challenge the reigning champions. For the Nuggets, this matchup presents perhaps their toughest challenge since their championship triumph last spring.
Throughout the regular season, these teams engaged in a relentless tug-of-war for the top seed. Although both ultimately fell short to Okc’s record, their mere one-game difference in the standings suggests a razor-thin margin that could define the upcoming series.
The focal point of this clash lies in the contrasting styles of play: the Nuggets’ offensive prowess versus the Timberwolves’ formidable defensive. Led by defensive stalwarts like Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley, Minnesota boasts a lineup capable of stifling even the most potent offenses.

The subject of endless sports talk over the past few weeks, Golden State Warriors locker room leader Draymond Green spoke out today about his recent 12-game suspension for taking a swing at Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic during a game on Dec. 13.
Green has been suspended four times since March. His most recent involuntary time away came just six games after he served a five-game suspension without pay for “escalating an on-court altercation” putting Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock. Needless to say, the sports talk machine has been in overdrive parsing the incidents and the details of the four-time NBA champion’s most recent transgression.
The Warriors are a cornerstone franchise in the current NBA with four recent titles, a groundbreaking style of play and, oh, the greatest shooter in the history of the game (Stephen Curry). Green’s stats may not be gaudy, but he is...

It’s a great season to be a Minnesota Timberwolves fan, with the team currently leading the NBA‘s Western Conference. Stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards have undeniable chemistry; veteran Mike Conley shows real leadership on the court; center Rudy Gobert is gunning for his fourth Defensive Player of the Year award. This is the kind of basketball you can get excited about.
But the Timberwolves have an additional, not-so-secret weapon you won’t see at the Target Center in Minneapolis. In fact, he’s never even been there.

There is a snippet of “The Illiad, or The Poem of Force,” Simone Weil’s 1940 essay about the blind poet Homer’s Trojan War epic, that has always stuck with me: “The progress of the war in the Iliad is simply a continual game of seesaw. The victor of the moment feels himself invincible, even though, only a few hours before, he may have experienced defeat; he forgets to treat victory as a transitory thing.”

President Joe Biden faced tough competition for media attention when giant panda Tian Tian joined his press conference during Saturday Night Live’s cold open for this weekend’s Jason Momoa-hosted episode.
SNL kicked off its latest installment with a sketch poking fun at Biden’s recent meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping that included discussion of China’s plan to send more pandas to the U.S. as three are currently making their way back to the Asian nation after having resided in Washington’s National Zoo. Castmember Bowen Yang played one of those pandas, Tian Tian, and he successfully upstaged Mikey Day’s Biden.
“This meeting was a total win,” Day said as Biden. “Sure, we made agreements about communications, fentanyl, climate change — but most importantly, we got the thing America really needs right now: more pandas.”

Pandemic lockdown — remember when? Covid-19 kept us indoors for a then-unforeseen length of time, leaving us questioning the future and perhaps our livelihood. The virus is sadly still around, but at least we've been out seeing the world for quite some time at this point. Most of us hadn't used Zoom before the coronavirus, but many of us turned to the app and VR-type technology back in 2020 and 2021 to help pass the time and help us feel somewhat like the social butterflies we once were.

This year in sports can’t be summed up with Top 10 lists and reels of game clips. So ESPN is going to try some different tactics.
ESPN plans a three-hour primetime event to bid farewell to year in sports that often involved events that took place well off the field. The show, “SportsCenter Presents: 2020 – Heroes, History and Hope,”will air as three one-hour programs and will kick off on Thursday, December 24 at 8 p.m. Jeremy Schaap and Lisa Salters. It will also be available on the ESPN mobile app
“We’ve done all different kinds of year-end specials. Some of them have been anthologies of our best stories commentary. Five or six different panel shows do ten best things, then worst things,” says Schaap, in an interview. “For obvious reasons, that wouldn’t have seemed an appropriate way to look back at a year with so much devastation and heartache...

The NBA is moving forward with its plan of resuming its 2019-20 season amid the coronavirus pandemic. The NBA’s “re-opening” night will feature a double-header July 30 that will air on TNT.
The early game will feature star rookie Zion Williamson leading the New Orleans Pelicans against the Utah Jazz. It was Jazz player Rudy Gobert’s positive test in March that led the NBA suspending its season in mid-March. The back end of the doubleheader will pit the Los Angeles Lakers against its inner city rival Clippers — though the game, like all during the NBA’s restart, will be played in Orlando.
From a TV perspective, the resumption of the season is following the broadcast pattern used for the league’s Opening Week in October, which typically tips off with a double-header on TNT. ESPN will air two games on July 31 — the Boston Celtics vs the Milwaukee Bucks and...

It was a long, strange spring for sports fans. And you can only imagine how it felt for the athletes who were supposed to be focused on competing, training and/or negotiating new deals, and not a heck of a lot else. Within a few weeks practically everything else in the wide world of sports was subsequently shut down or canceled, from March Madness and the Little League World Series to horse racing's Triple Crown and the 2020 Summer Olympics, with just about every level of competition in...

The coronavirus pandemic may have benched all live sports for the foreseeable future, but sports fans are still getting their fix by watching old games. According to Nielsen, diehard sports fans still spend 10% of their TV viewing on sports programming, whether its “SportsCenter” or re-airings of old Super Bowls. In the weeks since the global health crisis brought the sporting world to a screeching halt, many networks like ESPN and even the broadcast stations have taken to airing old games instead. Among “Heavy Sports Viewers,” which Nielsen describes as the segment in the top quintile of those who view live sports, watching old games accounted for 19% of their sports-viewing diet in the three weekends following the sports shutdowns. The NBA was first to suspend its season on March 11 after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. By the end of the weekend,...

What’s a sports network to do when there are no more sports? That’s the dilemma ESPN faces right now as the coronavirus pandemic that has brought sporting events to a screeching halt. Typically around this time, ESPN would be preparing for the women’s Ncaa basketball tournament, the first pitch of the Mlb season and the tip off for the NBA playoffs in April. But after real-world issues collided with sports on an unprecedented scale last week, ESPN is left sifting through the rubble of a schedule now littered with holes. “Thursday, March 12, 2020 is a day none of us will soon forget,” Burke Magnus, executive vice president, programming acquisitions and scheduling, said in an interview conducted by ESPN’s Front Row. The NBA made the decision to suspend its season on March 11 after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for Covid-19, which put every other sporting event on the clock.
