The Lumineers’ Jeremiah Fraites Composing the Score for Stephen King’s ‘The Long Walk’
Image
Jeremiah Fraites, co-founder and songwriter of the Grammy-nominated alternative folk band The Lumineers, has composed the score for The Long Walk, Variety has learned.

Based on Stephen King‘ 1979 novel of the same name, The Long Walk is directed by Francis Lawrence and written by Jt Mollner (Strange Darling).

“Francis [Lawrence] and I had a really great initial phone call that helped inform what instrumentation we thought would work,” commented Fraites. “Strings and piano felt right in servicing the expected horror you’d find in Stephen King canon. The real challenge for me was going to be writing music that would properly represent the deep relationships these boys were forming while on this brutal walk.”

“We met years ago when the band the Lumineers did a song for the [The Hunger Games] Catching Fire soundtrack — Jeremiah and I had remained friends after that, and stayed in contact,” added Lawrence. “He’d send me vinyl versions...

“The Premise Alone Is So Ghastly”: Mark Hamill Reveals Why Francis Lawrence’s Adaptation of ‘The Long Walk’ Called to Him [Exclusive]
Image
For cinema icon Mark Hamill, 2025 could easily be considered to be the year of Stephen King. This weekend, the Star Wars legend welcomes The Life of Chuck, his latest collaboration with filmmaker Mike Flanagan, based on King’s novella of the same name. Then, in September, Hamill will stay in pace with the theme, thanks to the theatrical arrival of Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of King’s 1979 novel, The Long Walk. In it, the actor who will go down as one of the greatest heroes of all time transforms himself into a bootlicking, depraved, absolute menace known only as the Major. Under his sadistic and tyrannical watch, a group of young men set forth in a contest to see who can walk the farthest. Should they stop or slow to less than three miles per hour, they’ll be executed on the spot.

’Netflix’s Answer to ‘Yellowstone’ Falls Off of Streaming Charts as Fans Await Season 2 News
Image
It’s now been over a month since the first season of Ransom Canyon premiered in its entirety on Netflix. The series spent the better part of the last month in the Netflix top 10, but fans have still not been gifted the Season 2 renewal that they’ve been waiting for. Enough time has now passed that Ransom Canyon has slipped out of the Netflix top 10. Despite cast members giving updates on what they’d like to see in a second season, Netflix has stayed eerily quiet on the Ransom Canyon renewal front. The show, which has been dubbed as Netflix’s version of Yellowstone, is a romance-fueled family drama following three intersecting ranching families. It’s set against the sweeping tundras and beautiful landscapes of Texas Hill Country.

Starring in the lead role of Staten Kirkland in Ransom Canyon is Josh Duhamel. Duhamel is also known for his role as...

Stephen King's 40-Year-Old Horror Anthology Movie Gets a Free Streaming Home
Image
Two years after the movie adaptation of Stephen King’sCujo was released, the acclaimed author teamed up with the film's director, Lewis Teague, for the 1985 horror thriller Cat's Eye. The movie will be available to stream for free on Tubi from June 1.

Much like another King adaptation, the George A. Romero-directed Creepshow, Cat's Eye is based on three of the author's short stories, namely, Quitters Inc, The Ledge and General. The film plays out like an anthology and follows a cat as it makes its way to a smoker's clinic, a penthouse ledge, and a young girl's room. The movie currently holds a 68% critic score and a 54% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The first story focuses on Dick Morrison (James Woods) as he tries to quit smoking and seeks the help of a service with ties to the mob that threatens his family if he decides to take up the habit again.

Mickey17, directed by Bong Joon Ho, arrived in theaters in early March. Netflix released it’s big-budget sci-fi film The Electric State, which is based on a graphic novel, March 14. The Life List arrived on the streamer at the end of March, and On Swift Horses starring Jacob Elordi, Will Poulter and Daisy Edgar-Jones hit theaters in April.

Edgar Wright’s The Running Man and Josh Boone’s Regretting You, which will likely follow in the footsteps of the Blake Lively-starring It Ends With Us and further pave a path for future Collen Hoover film adaptations like Verity and Reminders of Him.

Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’ Dupe Spends Another Week Atop Streaming Charts Despite No Season 2 Announcement
Image
It’s been almost a month since all episodes of Ransom Canyon began streaming on Netflix, and the streamer’s answer to Yellowstone has remained a hit. It didn’t take Josh Duhamel’s new Western series long to lasso a spot in the Netflix top 10. While most new arrivals quickly fade into the void before being forgotten, Ransom Canyon has carved out a different path for itself. Despite other new arrivals like The Eternaut hitting the platform after Ransom Canyon, it has remained one of the most popular projects on Netflix, sitting at #4 on TV charts at the time of writing. The show earned a “rotten” score of 45% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience-driven Popcornmeter tells a different story, where it sits at a modest 72%.

In addition to Josh Duhamel, who stars in the lead role of Staten Kirkland, Ransom Canyon also stars Minka Kelly as Quinn...

The Long Walk Trailer Gets Stephen King Fans Excited, Watch Inside
Image
The Long Walk got a trailer ahead of the weekend, and the movie, based on Stephen King’s novel by the same name, is generating a lot of excitement. If you read the book, you will know that it brings a combination of horror and dystopian thriller scenes. Read on to see if it’s the sort of movie you might watch.

The Book Was A Gripping Story

Stephen King’s early book was one of his best, fans agree. So often, he takes a thought and then imagines it happening. It certainly seems to work for him. Predominantly categorized as dystopian fiction, it incorporated elements of horror, rather than fitting neatly into the psychological thriller genre.

‘The Long Walk’ Trailer: Mark Hamill Stars in the Stephen King Thriller
Image
The Long Walk, the first novel Stephen King wrote (but not published), will finally make its way to the big screen on September 12, 2025. Lionsgate just released the first official trailer and it’s brutal, in keeping with the book and film’s subject matter.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Stephen King spoke about the era in which he wrote the book. It was written at the peak of the Vietnam War, but King explained that he didn’t set out to write a political allegory. “You write from your times, so certainly, that was in my mind. But I never thought about it consciously,” said King. “I was writing a kind of a brutal thing. It was hopeless, and just what you write when you’re 19 years old, man. You’re full of beans and you’re full of cynicism, and that’s the way it was.”

The film stars Cooper Hoffman,...

The Hunger Games Director's Stephen King Dystopian Thriller Drops Intense First Trailer
Image
The task is simple: walk or die. That's the tagline for the new Stephen King movie, The Long Walk, which has just released its first intense and chilling trailer.

The Long Walk is notable for being the first novel that King ever wrote, having begun it in the mid-1960s during his freshman year at the University of Maine. Ultimately, Carrie ended up being his first published novel, while The Long Walk was eventually released in 1979, as one of King's Richard Bachman books. Based on the trailer, the movie looks to be a pretty faithful adaptation of the dystopian horror novel, although with one interesting difference: Mark Hamill's the Major states that the teenage boys will need to maintain a speed above three miles per hour to avoid receiving a warning, one mile per hour less than the book. Check out the official trailer for The Long Walk below.

The Long Walk Trailer Brings Stephen King's Bleakest Story To The Big Screen
Image
After spending years (and years) in development hell, one of Stephen King's earliest and most brutal novels is finally coming to the big screen — and we have proof! Lionsgate has released the first trailer for "The Long Walk," which hits theaters this fall. While King isn't one to pull punches, this is one of his most unflinchingly brutal works, with young men walking to their deaths while the last one standing wins a prize in a post-apocalyptic, grim vision of the future. Check it out for yourself above.

"The Long Walk" is very much akin to King's "Hunger Games," albeit without any YA flair. This is nitty, gritty, and very much R-rated. It perhaps makes sense that Francis Lawrence, known best for his work on "The Hunger Games" movies, is in the director's chair for this one. Lionsgate isn't giving us much by way of the plot, with the...

It’s coming to theaters in September, and Vanity Fair provides us with a first look today.

In The Long Walk, first published in 1979, “The country holds an annual walking contest in which 100 teens must journey, non-stop and under strict rules, until only one of them is still standing alive and receiving a prize. The story told of a 16-year old walker named Raymond Garraty and the teens, some good, some bad, some mysterious, in his orbit.”

Star Cooper Hoffman tells Vanity Fair, “The Long Walk is a metaphor for life, in my eyes. It’s a metaphor for any sort of hard thing you’re going through,...

Image

Between Staten and Quinn, Ellie and Yancy, and Lauren and Lucas, there's so much romance to root for, but there's also plenty more possibilities for love triangles and new combinations to bloom.

Throughout the first season, Lauren (Lizzy Greene) was already in a love triangle between her rich, star athlete boyfriend Reid Collins (Andrew Liner) and secret wrong-side-of-the-tracks beau Lucas Russell (Garrett Warening). However, the tornado episode proved that Lauren had chemistry with another eligible bachelor in town: Lucas' troubled brother Kit (Casey W. Johnson).

After binge-watching the first season, Ransom Canyon fans have been shipping Lauren and Kit, and it's completely understandable. There was something between them as they rode out the storm together and got to know each other better. Of course,...

There’s no shortage of conflicts in Netflix’s new contemporary Western series “Ransom Canyon,” but there is one mystery at the heart of everything that spans across the season: who killed Randall?

It wasn’t murder, technically. At the start of the series, we learn that Staten’s (Josh Duhamel) son Randall left his dad in anger after his birthday party, and wound up flipping his car on the road, killing him. The news is devastating to the town, especially after losing Randall’s mother recently too.

Though the police say otherwise, Staten is convinced that there was another car on the road that night, one that either forced his son off the road or collided with teenager, causing the accident. And, in the end, Staten is right.

After discovering a piece of a truck buried near the accident site,...

Ransom Canyon on Netflix Reworks Key Character Arcs From Original Novel
Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly in Ransom Canyon (2025)
Netflix’s Ransom Canyon, adapted from the first novel in Jodi Thomas’s ten-book series, introduces a revised version of the story through a grounded ensemble cast and several reimagined character arcs. Showrunner April Blair worked from the original book while restructuring several plotlines to suit an ongoing serialized format.

Blair said the writers only used the first book to build the foundation for the show and chose to keep one consistent cast, diverging from the anthology-like approach in the novels. Among the most notable additions is what Blair described as the “mystery spine,” centered around Randall’s accident, which plays a major role in the series but occurs off-page and years earlier in the novel.

Josh Duhamel’s Staten Kirkland and Minka Kelly’s Quinn O’Grady share a complicated history in both versions, but the pacing of their relationship varies. In the show, their romantic tension plays out over several episodes,...

‘Ransom Canyon’ Book Vs. Show Differences: From Quinn & Staten’s Love Story To Yancy Grey’s Plot
Image
Spoiler Alert: This piece spoils Ransom Canyon on Netflix.

Netflix’s new contemporary Western romance and drama series Ransom Canyon is based on the first book in a ten-book series by Jodi Thomas.

Showrunner and creator April Blair stuck to the first book, which shares its title with the show while also expanding the world and ensemble to include more for certain characters only briefly mentioned in the book.

“We only used the first book, and it’s really the foundation of the series, a very important one, and we have retained, a lot of easter eggs for fans of the book series, but we definitely made it our own,” Blair told Deadline in an interview ahead of the series launch on Netflix. “In Jodi’s series, each novel introduces a whole new cast of characters. It’s almost kind of anthology like, and some...

‘Ransom Canyon’ Review: Netflix’s Delightful Cowboy Soap Could Fill TV’s ‘Yellowstone’ Void
Image
Netflix’s “Ransom Canyon” was never going to be revolutionary. The new drama, set in rural Texas and based on a series of books by Jodi Thomas, will naturally remind you of “Yellowstone” with its land-loving cowboys dedicated to keeping their ranches out of the hands of corporations and their water out of corporate pipelines. Its love triangles and small town soap plots give a bit of “Virgin River” and a million other small town soaps, and it’s not just the presence of Minka Kelly that will make you think of “Friday Night Lights,” because the local teens are embroiled in their own cheerleading-adjacent drama.

Everybody’s hot, everybody’s got secrets, and everybody’s in love with somebody whether that somebody loves them back or not. Sometimes there’s not much more you could ask for from a TV show.

“Ransom Canyon” shares its name with the small town it’s set in,...

Image
[Warning: This post contains Major spoilers for Ransom Canyon Season 1.] All ten episodes of Ransom Canyon are now streaming on Netflix, and the show wrapped up the main mystery of the first season perfectly. Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel) was on a mission to find out who was driving the blue pickup truck that caused his late son Randall’s (Hubert Smielecki) car accident, and Sheriff Brigman (Philip Winchester) finally delivered the answer and made an arrest — even though it broke his heart to do so. It turns out it was Brigman’s own wife, Margaret (Sarah Minnich), an alcoholic, who was behind the wheel of the car (and likely drunk). The season exposed Margaret’s affair with Kit (Casey W. Johnson), whose brother, Lucas (Garrett Wareing), happened to be dating Margaret and the Sheriff’s daughter, Lauren (Lizzy Greene). Netflix Still following along? Kit was with Margaret on the night of the accident and called Reid (Andrew Liner...
