Netflix is leveling up big time with this one. The streaming giant confirmed that Byeon Woo-seok will headline the forthcoming live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling. The Korean heartthrob, fresh off his swoon-worthy stint in Lovely Runner, is trading in romance for ruthless battles and mysterious dungeons.

With the original web novel already a beast in the digital fiction world, and the anime adaptation breaking records in 2025, this new chapter is gearing up to slice straight into global screens.

Netflix Casts Byeon Woo-seok in Solo Leveling Adaptation

You can’t talk about global webtoon takeovers without mentioning Solo Leveling. What started as a humble Korean web novel by Chugong quickly snowballed into a digital behemoth, thanks to its pulse-racing plot and the hauntingly good artwork by the late Jang Sung-rak, aka Dubu. Gabriel Macht’s Suits Finally Got Its Act Together, But It Took a K-Drama to Pull It Off
Image
The much-hyped spinoff of Gabriel Macht’s Suits didn’t last more than a season. The show failed to take advantage of the popularity of its prequel show. Fans expected something similar in tone to the original show, but the LA version failed to make a case for itself. However, there was one remake of Macht’s show that managed to retain the magic of the original.

This Korean remake, with the same name as the original, came a year before the final season of the American version. Unlike the 134-episode-long original show, the remake lasted only for 16 episodes, which is the norm for many scripted shows on South Korean television. But these episodes were enough for the show to garner a fanbase just like its U.S. counterpart.

It took a Korean remake to nail what Gabriel Macht’s Suits did Jang Dong-gun as Choi Kang-Seok and Park Hyung-sik...

Suits Fans Looking For More Should Watch Its K-Drama Remake
Image
Several years before the legal drama series "Suits" saw a resurgence on Netflix after its original television broadcast run, the show connected with South Korean audiences in a unique way. A K-drama remake of "Suits," sharing the same title as its American source material, premiered on Korean television in 2018. Whereas the original show ran for nine seasons, its Korean remake only aired for 16 episodes, which is admittedly the norm for many scripted series in South Korea. Even with its significantly shorter length, the K-drama "Suits" still retains the broad strokes of the original story, albeit from a South Korean cultural perspective.

Like its American counterpart, the Korean "Suits" retains its core focus on the partnership and friendship between two lawyers, one established and the other just starting out their career. Veteran attorney Choi Kang-seok (Jang Dong-gun) takes Go Yeon-woo (Park Hyung-sik) under his wing, despite the latter not having a law degree.

The 10 Worst K-Dramas On Netflix
Image
It's a sad fact of entertainment that not all movies and television shows are created equal, with every great project balanced by at least one that's subpar at best. This axiom, of course, is also true of K-dramas, the blanket term used for scripted television from South Korea of any genre. As numerous celebrated K-dramas find widespread success with international audiences, more Korean movies and shows are available overseas through popular streaming platforms like Netflix. However, there are just some shows on Netflix that you should probably steer clear of, or at least strongly consider watching different Korean shows over instead.

With some projects suffering from formulaic writing or a clear lack of chemistry between lead actors in romance series, not every K-drama is going to be the next "Squid Game." This certainly isn't a dig on Netflix, with the platform curating a growing library of excellent K-dramas to check out.

‘Buried Hearts’ Episode 9 Recap & Ending Explained: How Does Dongju Save Eunnam?
Image
If there’s anyone who knows how to make a good twisted thriller, it’s the Koreans. I mean, we’ve all heard of the Oldboys and I Saw The Devils. And while there are some deeply disturbing and really interesting K-dramas that fit in the same category, often, over the 16 long episodes, they get lost a little bit. I’m hoping Buried Hearts will not fall into this category. Park Hyung-Sik’s new drama was initially a little bit boring thanks to the overtly romantic bits that made it somewhat sappy for the genre it was going for, but as the series progresses it gets more compelling as a tale of revenge that throws you off its scent at every given chance. But that’s enough rambling; let’s get straight into the 9th episode of Buried Hearts. Also yes, I’m glad it is nothing like the disaster that was The Impossible Heir.

The best K-dramas are expertly crafted, with tightly self-contained stories moving at a brisk pace. Netflix is set to release a fan-favorite Korean zombie series this week

Prepare for intense action, gripping drama, and plenty of undead thrills because Netflix will be releasing a fan-favorite Korean zombie series on its platform tomorrow! Can you guess what show we're talking about?

No, it's not All of Us Are Dead. However, that's another great Korean zombie series. A second season of this show has been in the works at Netflix for a while now, but it's unknown when it will come out.

The zombie show that we'll be talking about in this article is Happiness. Unlike All of Us Are Dead, which is a Netflix original, Happiness is a show in which Netflix acquired the streaming rights. This means it won't stay on the streaming platform forever. So, it's imperative that you get to watching it as soon as possible.

Happiness is a Studio Dragon production. This well-known South Korean television production company is known for being behind other...

Park Hyung-sik And Han Hyo-joo’s Underrated K-Drama From 3 Years Ago Is The Perfect Show For Sweet Home Fans
Image
Sweet Home released its third and final season on July 19, 2024, but there is another K-drama, Happiness, starring Park Hyung-sik and Han Hyo-joo that is perfect for anyone missing the horror K-drama. With Sweet Home’s cast led by Song Kang, Lee Do-hyun, and Lee Jin-wook, the show sees its characters fight against a monster outbreak that begins in an apartment complex called Green Home. The show’s meteoric success was an inspiration for other horror K-dramas, but very few have achieved Sweet Home’s level of popularity.

While there are other K-dramas about zombie outbreaks, Happiness is the one that would resonate more with fans of Sweet Home because of how similar the premises for the shows are. Like Sweet Home, Happiness also sees its characters get infected by a zombie virus and try to find a cure. Happiness perfectly combines action, mystery, romance, and science in a way that...

5 Korean Dramas on Netflix That You Will Regret Not Watching Now
Image
Korean Drama or K-Drama has been growing in popularity over the last few years. As usual, regional television shows generally hit their peak within the country that it’s produced in. For instance, back in the 1960s and 1970s, K-Drama was consumed almost exclusively in Korea.

Eventually, Korean-based projects made their way across the world following the end of the military rule in South Korea. Obviously, there would have been much more to watch during that time than just Death Row Prisoner (1956).

Film Review: Juror 8 (2019) by Hong Seung-wan

Court room dramas are not exactly common in Korean cinema, but the genre does have a legacy, with films like “Unbowed” and “The Attorney”. “Juror 8” comes to continue in those footsteps, although in a completely different style, since the script is based on the first jury trial in Korea, thus focusing on them and not a lawyer or an accused, while the approach is more entertainment-oriented. Lastly, it is also worth noting that the protagonist, Park Hyung-sik, who is also a member of the boy group Ze:a, won a number of newcomer awards for his performance.

“Juror 8” is screening at the Florence Korea Film Fest
