A superfan is called a stan thanks to Eminem’s massive 2000 hit about an admirer whose love has crossed the line into obsession. 25 years after “Stan” coined the term by which over-zealous fans will forever be known, the documentary Stans takes a look Eminem’s own most committed acolytes, and their complicated relationship with their reluctant idol.

Stans received a four-day theatrical run on AMC screens, and now it’s headed for the home market, setting a streaming release date of August 26, 2025 on Paramount+, Paramount confirms. The film’s director Steven Leckart said in a statement:

’Stan’ is one of the most unconventional songs ever written, where the story is mostly told from a fan’s perspective, so this film was an incredible opportunity to find a unique approach.

Paramount+ today announced that following a highly successful limited theatrical run, the ambitious and unconventional new Eminem-produced documentary, Stans, directed by Emmy-winning director Steven Leckart, will exclusively debut on the service in the U.S., Canada, Latin America, and Brazil on Tuesday, August 26.

Acclaimed rapper Eminem will co-produce a documentary all about superfans, also known as ‘Stans,’ for his own Shady Films. According to a report by Variety, Marshall Mathers, aka Eminem, whose hugely popular song from 2000, Stan, popularized the term ‘Stan’ for “overzealous or maniacal fans of a celebrity or personality,” will help develop the project with planned distribution from Paramount/MTV.

It took me a little while to work out that the idea of ‘standom’ – a particularly fanatical kind of fandom – emanated from the Eminem song ‘Stan’ from the year 2000. I wouldn’t mind, I bought the sodding single as well.

Anyway. Eminem is returning to the world of Stans with a documentary feature film that his company is backing. Cunningly, said documentary will be going by the name of Stans, and Eminem is listed amongst the co-producers of the project.

He’s not the director though, so let’s have a paragraph or two on him. Steven Leckart is the person in question, and he’s previously directed Challenger: The Final Flight. He also co-wrote the TV series Legacy: The True Story Of The LA Lakers, which hasn’t made it to these shores.

The true tiger kings just landed an Apple TV+ limited series.

The legendary German-American tiger-handling duo Siegfried & Roy, comprised of Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, will be the subjects of an upcoming Apple TV+ biographical series. In the vein of “Pam & Tommy” and “Welcome to Chippendales,” the yet-untitled half-hour series will be told from various perspectives and document the story of Siegfried and Roy’s star-making act in Las Vegas.

“Only Murders in the Building” co-creator John Hoffman is writing and executive producing the series, with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer of Imagine Television also serving as executive producers. The Apple TV+ series is based on the eight-part podcast “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy,” released in January 2022.

Per the official logline, the half-hour series is “told from various perspectives and is about two of the greatest showman-magicians in history who push the concept of illusion versus reality to the extreme — until tragedy reframes and opens up an entirely new mystery surrounding their last fateful Las Vegas show.”

John Hoffman, the co-creator of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” is writing and executive producing the project. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns and Kristen Zolner will executive produce for Imagine Television, alongside James Seidman. Will Manati, executive producer of “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy,” will also serve as executive producer alongside Steven Leckart for At Will Media. Apple Studios will serve as the studio on the project. The eight-part “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy” podcast was released in January 2022 to great acclaim.

A new documentary from Hulu seeks to capture the legacy of the Los Angeles Lakers.

The streamer today dropped the first teaser trailer for Legacy: The True Story of the LA Lakers, from director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua. This teaser offers insight from Shaquille O’Neal, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Rob Lowe, and others about the rise of the Lakers. No premiere date has been set.

The ten-part docuseries is executive produced by Lakers CEO and controlling owner, Jeanie Buss. It was in development well before the March premiere of HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, which has taken hits for, among other things, depicting Jerry West as a foul-mouthed and moody man. Festival organizers have unveiled the first Tribeca podcast slate, calling it the first set of official selections at any major festival. It will run alongside film screenings and other events during the 20th edition of Tribeca, which is set for June 9 to 20. The fest will represent an industry milestone as the first major North American event to feature in-person screenings since the onset of Covid-19 in early 2020.
