Were the characters in this mediocre 24 knockoff that might have run on TNT circa 2007 actually going to turn out to be ghosts? Or aliens? Or poorly programmed artificial intelligence navigating a politically denuded simulacrum of 21st century Los Angeles? Would the twist be that this race-against-the-clock drama without any clocks to race against was taking place in the mind of a small child with no nuanced understanding of human behavior? On Rotten Tomatoes, Countdown currently has a score of 50%. This makes the series considered to be "rotten" on the review aggregator website, but the score is likely to fluctuate after more critics chime in. It could potentially see a rise, but with such an even score at the time of writing, it's hard to predict which way the score could move. For now, the critics are saying some very different things about what they saw in the show.

Countdown is the latest attempt to marry the winning formula of the network police procedural with a more serialized prestige streaming format. “Well, he’s not having to chase ghosts or fight vampires or deal with demons. He’s not having to deal with superhero powers. So, we’ve taken all the genre out of the stuff that I’m normally doing.”

The Supernatural actor spoke highly of his co-star and revealed the one thing he learned from the Grey’s Anatomy alum.

Als is a rare degenerative disease that affects the muscles. It initially causes weakness in a limb, followed by slurred speech. It eventually causes the patients to lose their ability to speak, walk, eat, and breathe independently. Earlier this week, we sat down with Countdown showrunner Derek Haas and stars Jensen Ackles (The Boys), Eric Dane (Euphoria), Jessica Camacho (Watchmen), Violett Beane (The Flash), Elliot Knight (The Boys), and Uli Latukefu (Young Rock).

While attending the show’s premiere on Wednesday (June 18) Jensen, 47, raved over working with Eric, 52, calling the Grey’s Anatomy alum a “total stud.”

“There’s just a quiet leadership to him that I truly learned from,” the Supernatural alum continued. “So to get to mix it up with them on screen, I had to bring it.”

The premiere also marked the first red carpet event Eric has walked since going public with his Als diagnosis.

Uli Latukefu is set to star as Luke Finau in Prime Video’s upcoming series, Countdown, but now he’s pulling back the curtain on his time playing what many view as his most famous role. Latukefu features as a young Dwayne Johnson in Young Rock, the sitcom/biopic telling the story of The Rock’s formative years as he grew up. Latukefu plays the 18-20-year-old version of Johnson, Adrian Groulx plays him at age 10, and Bradley Constant at age 15. Randall Park also stars in the show as himself, and Ana Tuisila plays The Rock’s mother, Lia Maivia. Collider’s Aidan Kelley recently caught up with Latukefu at the premiere of Countdown, and he asked what it was like taking on such an “unenviable role”:

"At first it was very daunting. They were big shoes to fill. But it's an honor. He's a legend, and he's awesome.

Whether you know him from Grey’s Anatomy, Euphoria, or something completely different, Eric Dane has made his way onto living room television sets and cinematic screens throughout the course of his fruitful career. Sadly, the actor recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with Als, telling Good Morning America’s Diane Sawyer that the disease had left him with “one functioning arm.” With his ailment in mind, audiences are wondering how much he’ll be able to do in the future, specifically when it comes to his newest series, Countdown, which premieres on Prime Video on June 25. Although it has yet to receive a Season 2 renewal, there’s a good chance that, with the dynamite cast that also includes Jensen Ackles and Jessica Camacho, and the story from creator and showrunner Derek Haas, the studio will be ordering more episodes.

The countdown is on for “Countdown,” Prime Video’s new special task force crime drama from Derek Haas premiering June 25.

The series stars Jensen Ackles, Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Uli Latukefu, Jonathan Togo and Elliot Knight as various law enforcement agents who are put together under leader Eric Dane to solve a murder … with much greater implications for Los Angeles.

“A lot of shows in this genre, for whatever reason, in the last 10 to 15 years, they’re really dark and cynical and super gritty and dirty. I remember the movies from the ’80s I grew up loving — ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark,’ ‘Crimson Tide,’ ‘Die Hard,’ ‘Lethal Weapon’ — which I don’t feel like you see in this genre too much anymore,” Haas told TheWrap at the premiere. “Thankfully, I got Jensen Ackles … he could have been in any of those movies.”

Eric Dane arrived at Amazon MGM’s premiere of “Countdown” in Los Angeles on Wednesday. The evening marked the actor’s first red carpet appearance since publicly disclosing that he had been diagnosed with Als.

Speaking to TV Insider, the Supernatural and The Boys star discussed working with Countdown creator and showrunner Derek Haas, as well as what the upcoming crime drama has in store for audiences.
