10 Female Anime Characters Who Subverted All Our Expectations
Image
When anime fans watch a show, they will have some general expectations about how the male and female characters will act and think. While there is plenty of room for nuance and variety, the trends still hold true, with boys being competitive and action-oriented, while girls are more interested in deep emotional connections and cooperation. Still, there are some anime girls who seriously bend or even shatter the conventional rules of femininity.

Some anime girls are subversive in their design because they contradict standard norms of how girls act and think, while other anime girls are subversive in more unique ways. In certain cases, anime girls will bend the rules of not just femininity, but other archetypes or roles too, making each of them a refreshing breath of air in any anime. These subversive anime girls aren't content to be generic eye candy or token love interests, because they have a few surprises in store.

10 Most Unique Isekai Anime You Can Watch Right Now (& Where)
Image
The isekai genre is an ever-growing category of anime that has new series added to its already overwhelming list of fantasy heroes and wayward villainesses with every season. The core concept of isekai—escaping into a magical realm—is a popular and highly appealing basis for a story, but with so many series following the same formula and tropes, the charm of the genre itself can lose its luster.

There does occasionally come an isekai anime with a premise or protagonist that strays from what is typically seen and even subverts the common isekai anime tropes in new and interesting ways, offering a fresh take on an overused theme. Among the hundreds of titles that follow the same isekai recipe, there are a handful of series that have spiced up their stories with something unique to create a compelling tale well worth the pickiest anime fan's time.

If You Like Dragon Ball Daima, Here's 10 Series You Better Watch Asap
Image
Dragon Ball Daima is the newest addition to the Dragon Ball universe, and it hasn't missed its mark. It's a fun, light-hearted series that reintroduces the cast of Dragon Ball in an amazing light. While Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball Gt, and Dragon Ball Super put action first and comedy second, Daima changes the formula to create a new series that feels fresher than ever.

The evil Demon King Gomah used the Dragon Balls to make Goku and the rest of the Z Fighters become kids again, leading to a hilarious adventure, great battles, and surprising transformations. As a series that puts fun first, it has a different tone than most of the Dragon Ball franchise, but there are still plenty of other anime series that share a lot in common with the latest entry into the Dragon Ball canon.

Crunchyroll is releasing a special Blu-ray Limited Edition box set to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic anime series YuYu Hakusho, based on the manga created by Yoshihiro Togashi. YuYu Hakusho tells the story of Yusuke Urameshi, a good-hearted high school delinquent who dies trying to save a kid from a car accident and is then resurrected as a Spirit Detective, charged by the Underworld with investigating supernatural activity within the Human World. The series soon turns into a supernatural-themed battle shonen, and it's credited with inspiring many works that followed, including Togashi's own Hunter X Hunter. The manga inspired, besides the 112 episodes-long anime, two animated movies, a series of Ova's, videogames, merchandise, and most recently a Netflix live-action series

The YuYu Hakusho anime was licensed for North America in 2001 by Funimation, now Crunchyroll, and it aired on two popular Cartoon Network blocks, Adult Swim and Toonami.

Chainsaw Man has exploded in popularity recently, so Screen Rant interviewed the English voice actors for Power and Makima to ask them about their roles and opinions on the series in general.

First premiering as a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018, Chainsaw Man instantly accrued a passionate fan base. That fan base then grew even further with the release of the series' anime adaptation this year, releasing on Crunchyroll every Tuesday. Part of the series' core appeal is its many varied and deep female characters. Two of the most important women in Chainsaw Man are the blood fiend Makima and the leader of Tokyo's Public Safety Division, Makima.

Voice Actors Suzie Yeung And Sarah Wiedenheft Talk About The Complexities Of Chainsaw Man [Exclusive Interview]
Image
"Chainsaw Man" took the world by storm long before it received its anime adaptation from the talented Studio Mappa. The manga, created by mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto and released in the pages of "Weekly Shonen Jump" from 2018-2020, is often praised for its hyper-violent action and surprisingly hefty (and sometimes existential) story. In a world where "devils" are born as real-world manifestations of human fears, "Chainsaw Man" centers around Denji, a young man in poverty looking to get out of debt and live the good life by being a devil hunter. It isn't until he's on the brink of death that his partner and pet Pochita (the Chainsaw Devil) make a contract with him, giving Denji the powers of Chainsaw Man.

When it came to the anime adaptation, there were lofty expectations not just for the animation of "Chainsaw Man," but also for the voice cast that would bring the characters to life.
