Netflix debuted its new thriller film, Straw, on the platform last Friday, and the film has hit its stride with a legendary run of streaming success. Straw stars Taraji P. Henson and follows a single mother as she finds herself wandering down a path she never envisioned for herself, suddenly in the middle of suspicion in an indifferent world. Straw hit Netflix on June 6, and the film is still the most popular movie on the streamer, sitting at #1 at the time of writing. What makes this even more impressive is that the film has not been particularly well-received by critics or audiences. Straw currently sits at a “rotten” 50% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and even the audience-driven Popcornmeter lands at a 74%.

With the release of Predator: Killer of Killers, it’s the perfect time to look back on one of Hollywood’s most iconic sci-fi horror franchises. There have been great Predator movies, there have been bad Predator movies, and there have been plenty of Predator movies somewhere in between. We’re going to go through all of them and rank ’em!

“Predator: Killer of Killers” arrives this summer on Hulu, the first animated film in the long-running franchise and one of two new “Predator” movies due out this year. “Killer of Killers” also finds the franchise headed to another era — actually, in this case, three.

The new animated film, directed by “Prey” filmmaker Dan Trachtenberg and set to release on June 6, 2025, will be an anthology story. In total, fans will get to experience a Predator story in the Viking era, feudal Japan, and WWII Europe, each with different heroes leading them. More details on that below.

Bird Box is easily one of the most significant films in Netflix’s history. With its excellent cast full of actors like Sandra Bullock, Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, and even Machine Gun Kelly, the record-breaking film became a cultural phenomenon upon its release.

One would assume, considering its success, that everyone on the project had the time of their lives when they were making the film. However, it would seem that one part of the production was tirelessly unrewarding.

Even though the movie’s soundtrack was made by two members of the legendary band Nine Inch Nails, the experience was very frustrating for the two musicians.

There were several reasons for this, ranging from its excellent premise to its impressive cast. The addition of Machine Gun Kelly was certainly surprising; it was the presence of Sarah Paulson, John Malkovich, and Lil Rel Howery that had audiences turning heads.

Tyler Perry is a prolific actor and director and the recent release of his movie The Six Triple Eight has brought renewed attention to his skills. Perry began his career in the theater, where he originated many of the ideas for his films, including several from the Madea movie series and Why Did I Get Married? Since Perry's first film, Diary of a Mad Black Woman, he has grown in popularity and today is a household name. With Perry's production studios and his TV shows and movies, Forbes has estimated his net worth to be an impressive $1.4 billion.

Sometimes books are mega hits and get turned into movies that take off. There’s just something that captures the zeitgeist and it’s destined to be. Harry Potter came out of nowhere and then turned into a franchise of books, video games, Lego sets, and of course movies. Other times, authors release something that will undoubtedly get picked up as the track record for success is already there. This is the Stephen King special or even Michael Crichton when he was still active. Adaptations can come from cases of re-adaptations like Dracula, Frankenstein, and other classics that get recycled over and over again, especially of they fall into the public domain. There’s the rare case, though, that an unknown author has a manuscript pop and movie studios jump at the chance to create something new. The journey and strange tale of the author of Bird Box falls under that last category.

A24 has always had a knack for redefining modern cinema and taking risks other studios wouldn’t dare touch. Through this unique preservation of individuality, they’ve constructed a rigid name for themselves with thought-provoking, visually stunning, and emotionally cathartic films that constantly push boundaries and challenge expectations. From tales of identity to psychological breakdowns, some movies cement A24 as a powerhouse studio of indie filmmaking.

Whether the emotions conveyed are gut-wrenching, nightmare-inducing, or simply tears of joy, recurring trademarks in A24 movies have provided incredibly niche experiences for viewers over the years. From Lady Bird to Midsommar, there aren’t any boxes that are left unchecked within the company, allowing audiences to feel virtually every emotion through their extensive catalog. The scariest A24 horror villains as well as the most lovable meld together into one remarkable blur when considering their best movies.

A maligned Predator movie is finally receiving some love. Six years after underperforming in theaters, Shane Black's The Predator has become a major streaming hit on Netflix.

This week, The Predator became the #2 movie on Netflix's Global Top 10 list, with only the documentary The Menendez Brothers coming in ahead of the 2018 sci-fi movie. Directed and co-written by Black who starred in, and had been an uncredited script doctor on, the original 1987 Predator movie The Predator follows a group of Ptsd-afflicted soldiers and a scientist who must team up to fight off an invading pair of Predators and discover their plans for mankind. The movie, which was set between the events of Predator 2 (1990) and Predators (2010), received mixed reviews from critics when it was first released and underperformed at the box office, grossing only $160 million worldwide off a budget of $88 million.

Its about time! Fans of Tyler Perry can now anticipate whats to come next month as Netflix has released an all-new trailer for Beauty in Black, ahead of its release later next month. As previously announced, the project is part of a creative collaboration with Netflix, in which Perry will write, direct, and produce films and series under a multi-year first-look deal. Another production under this exclusive deal is the crime thriller Mea Culpa, which premiered in February and starred Trevante Rhodes and Kelly Rowland in lead roles.

Perry’s first series for the streamer, Beauty in Black, will debut Thursday, Oct. 24, TVLine has learned, with Perry serving as creator, director, writer and executive producer. The hour-long drama “follows two women leading very different lives,” per the official description: “While Kimmie is struggling to make a living after her mother kicked her out, and Mallory is running a successful business, they find themselves entangled in each other’s lives.”
