SeriesFest, the annual television festival in Denver, has unveiled the winners of its independent pilot competition.

Lake Boga won best drama pilot, Settle Down won best comedy pilot, Vs. Goliath won best unscripted pilot and F*ckUps Anonymous picked up the award for best short series.

“We can think of no better way to close out another successful edition of the festival than to celebrate and give back to the independent storytellers who continue to push the boundaries of the medium,” said SeriesFest Co-Founders Randi Kleiner and Kaily Smith. “SeriesFest has a long history of being a discovery platform for the independent television community, and we are thrilled to be able to further this year’s creatives’ work through the opportunities these awards and resources provide.”

According to a Cartoon Research article, the "beloved format and characters almost didn't make it to television" until Fred Silverman changed it into what soon became a hit for "young and older audiences."

Award-winning filmmaker Tyler Perry continues his knack for making thrillers as one of his upcoming projects lands a release window on Prime Video. Perry's next movie, Duplicity, shares its first trailer to build anticipation before its spring premiere.

Prime Video confirmed the R-rated Duplicity will debut on Mar. 20. The film is directed, written and executive produced by Perry and stars The Vampire Diaries actor Kat Graham, who portrayed Bonnie Bennett in the acclaimed supernatural teen drama. The 47-year-old actress was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Monday (December 2) in Hollywood, Calif.

Kerry had the support of husband Nnamdi Asomugha, her parents Valerie & Earl, Scandal creator Shonda Rhimes, and longtime friend and collaborator Tyler Perry.

The highly-anticipated Netflix feature is written and directed by Perry, who based the film on the article “Fighting A Two-Front War” by Kevin M. Hymel. The piece was published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media.

“The Six Triple Eight” is inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII. Washington portrays Major Charity Adams, the commanding officer of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. The group, which consisted of 855 women, was tasked with sorting through a three-year backlog of 17 million pieces of undelivered mail, reconnecting American soldiers with their loved ones at home. The women of the Battalion received the Congressional Gold Medal in 2022 after President Joe Biden signed the bill to honor them.
