Will There Be a ‘Fellow Travelers’ Season 2? Details Inside
Image
Since the Fellow Travelers finale aired, fans have been eager to know if there will be a second season. While Showtime has not cancelled the show officially, the network has also maintained silence about its renewal. Although over a year has passed, there is no news regarding the series’ cancellation or its return for Season 2.

Showtime brought the historical romance drama to life in late 2023. Based on Thomas Mallon’s 2007 novel of the same name, the show followed the story of a closeted gay couple, the charismatic Hawkins and the submissive Timothy, spanning several decades, starting with the 1950s.

Soon after its release, Fellow Travelers became a hit with fans, especially those from the LGBTQ+ community. Viewers were impressed with the sensitivity with which creator Ron Nyswaner had depicted some of the most important events in queer history, from the Lavender Scare of the 1950s to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Laura Day Predicts the Future for A-List Stars and Fortune 500 Firms, Just Don’t Call Her a Psychic
Image
Kevin Huvane, one of Hollywood’s most powerful and respected agents, happened to be in New York City about 32 years ago with client and friend Demi Moore when the movie star suggested an introduction to someone “really, really special” in her life.

The first name that came to Huvane’s mind was the man most closely associated with Moore at the time, Bruce Willis. Nope, not him. “You had already had Rumer and I met her already,” Huvane recalled, referencing the eldest of Moore’s three daughters with ex-husband Willis. Turns out it wasn’t a relative, a fellow movie star or even an auteur. Over dinner at Nobu in New York, Moore introduced Huvane to that special someone, whom she described has having the credentials of an impressive multi-hyphenate: “a friend, a guidance counselor, a psychiatrist, a therapist and a healer.”

“I fell in love with Laura Day that night,...

Robbie Rogers on Producing Doc Exploring Former Soccer Star Tony Powell’s Mysterious Disappearance: ‘It Was Very Much Rooted in Homophobia’
Image
When soccer player Robbie Rogers was with the LA Galaxy, he lived just a couple of blocks away from the rundown Holloway Motel on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood.

“I walked by it all the time,” Rogers tells me. “I kind of noticed it, but didn’t notice it.”

Little did he know – or anyone for that matter –that the longtime motel manager and its only full-time resident was Tony Powell, a former British soccer star who mysteriously disappeared after retiring from the game about 40 years ago.

It turns out Powell made himself disappear when he cut off all contact with his family and friends in the U.K. when he moved to West Hollywood.

Why?

Because Powell was secretly gay.

Powell’s story is now being told in “The Last Guest of the Holloway Motel,” a documentary that will have its world premiere on Sunday at a sold-out...

Greg Berlanti teams up with Amazon on mind-bending horror thriller series Stillwater
Image
Through his megadeal with Warner Bros. Discovery, highly successful and prolific producer and screenwriter Greg Berlanti will be returning to more hands-on creative work, specifically writing for three different shows, each being developed for a different streaming platform. One of those series is a horror thriller titled Stillwater, which will be created for Prime Video.

Some comic book fans will be familiar with the show's title right away, as it's based on Skybound's horror comic book series of the same name by Chip Zdarsky. Amazon has given Stillwater a series order, although it's unclear how many episodes the first season will have.

Berlanti is best known for his work on shows such as Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, You, Titans and Superman & Lois. He and Carly Wray are working together to adapt the Stillwater comic for the screen. They will also executive produce along with Zdarsky, Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs,...

Greg Berlanti Nabs Series Order for Horror Drama ‘Stillwater’ at Amazon
Image
Greg Berlanti is getting back into the writers room.

The mega-producer has three projects, at three different streamers, in various stages of development — including a series order for Stillwater, based on the horror comic of the same name, at Amazon’s Prime Video. Berlanti is also developing a high school mystery series at Hulu and a family drama at Max.

All three projects come from Warner Bros. TV, where Berlanti has a rich overall deal and has been his studio home for most of his career.

Stillwater and the Hulu project, Foster Dade, will also mark Berlanti’s first teleplay credits in several years. While the prolific producer has a “developed by” or creator credit on many of the shows his eponymous company has produced — including most of The CW’s Arrow-verse series — he hasn’t had a writing credit since the early days of You, which is now wrapping its run on Netflx.

Greg Berlanti Sets Skybound Comic Adaptation ‘Stillwater’ at Amazon, ‘Foster Dade’ at Hulu
Image
Greg Berlanti has set up multiple projects across multiple streamers on which he will serve as co-writer, Variety has confirmed.

Although Berlanti remains one of the most prolific producers in Hollywood via his Warner Bros. TV-based Berlanti Productions, the most recent show on which he was credited as a writer was “Superman & Lois,” which debuted in 2021.

First up, Berlanti and Carly Wray are set as writers and executive producers on the horror thriller “Stillwater,” based on the Skybound comic book of the same name by Chip Zdarsky and Ramon K. Perez.

The official logline for the show states, “When ex-con Daniel West receives a mysterious letter promising answers about his past and a substantial inheritance in the small town of Stillwater, he discovers a community where nothing ever ages, no one ever dies, and nobody ever gets out.”

Executive producing for Skybound Entertainment are Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Rick Jacobs,...

Image
Exclusive: How is this for continuity — as the last of the current series created/co-created by Greg Berlanti, You, is topping Netflix’s charts with its just-released final season, he is readying his next series — next three, that is, including Stillwater, which has been picked up by Amazon. Focusing on development and returning to writing over the past several months, Berlanti has set up the three high-profile new projects — all co-written by him — through Berlanti Prods. and Warner Bros. Television, where the company is based.

In a bidding war, Amazon has landed mind-bending horror thriller Stillwater, based on the Skybound comic book series by Chip Zdarsky and Ramon K. Perez, with a series order. Berlanti and Carly Wray (Watchmen) are adapting, with Skybound Entertainment (The Walking Dead) producing.

Hulu had bought spec script Foster Dade, written by Berlanti and Bash Doran (Life After Life), which is being fast-tracked for a pilot order,...

Image
Prolific writer, director and producer Greg Berlanti spoke of his personal journey and lifelong love of television when receiving the 2024 Governors Award at the Emmy Awards.

“I wanted to be a part of television even before I knew how that was possible,” the 52-year-old showrunner, one of the youngest individual recipients of the award, said in his emotional speech. “So many Gen X kids in the 70s and 80s, the one color TV our family could afford was on around the clock in our house, and I watched and loved all of it.”

Berlanti used that childhood experience as inspiration for his company Berlanti Production’s logo.

“There wasn’t a lot of gay characters on television back then, and I was a closeted gay kid, and it’s hard to describe how lonely that was at the time,” Berlanti continued. “There was no Internet to connect with other queer kids,...

Netflix Now Developing Modern Take on Oscar Wilde Classic Dorian Gray
Image
The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is highly regarded as one of the best classic novels of all time. The acclaim for the novel has resulted in numerous adaptations, with another one now in the works courtesy of Netflix. The latest adaptation will be titled The Grays and, according to Deadline, will tell "a contemporary take" on the Oscar Wilde classic, revolving around siblings Basil and Dorian Gray himself. Much like the source material and the various adaptations that have followed, the series will once again explore the obsession with eternal youth and beauty, but this time in a modern world.

The acclaimed 1891 novel was the only novel written by Irish writer Oscar Wilde. The story revolves around a portrait of Dorian Gray, painted by Basil, a "friend" in the novel, who is obsessed with his beauty. Believing that beauty is the only thing worth pursuing in life,...

The Grays: Berlanti and Netflix team for a TV series inspired by The Picture of Dorian Gray
Image
Back in the 1890s, writer Oscar Wilde brought the world a story called The Picture of Dorian Gray – and now the Netflix streaming service has announced that they’re teaming up with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television on a new TV series called The Grays, which ComicBook.com hears will be “a contemporary take on the Oscar Wilde classic about our fascination with eternal youth set against the backdrop of the modern beauty industry.“

The Picture of Dorian Gray has the following description: Combining elements of the Gothic horror novel and decadent French fiction, the book centers on a striking premise: As Dorian Gray sinks into a life of crime and gross sensuality, his body retains perfect youth and vigor while his recently painted portrait grows day by day into a hideous record of evil, which he must keep hidden from the world.

‘Picture of Dorian Gray’ Modern TV Adaptation in the Works at Netflix
Image
Netflix is in the process of adapting “The Picture of Dorian Gray” into a modern TV series, TheWrap has learned.

The show, titled “The Grays,” will be produced by Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with “The Girls on the Bus” showrunner and EP Rina Mimoun serving as showrunner and executive producer, according to an individual with knowledge. Katie Rose Rogers will write the series.

As the team modernizes the Oscar Wilde novel, the series will center on siblings Basil and Dorian Gray as “The Grays” tackles the classic’s themes through the eyes of the modern beauty industry, according to Deadline, who first reported the news.

Representatives for Warner Bros. Television and Netflix declined to comment.

Mimoun and Rogers will executive produce the series alongside Rogers’ brother, Robbie Rogers, with whom she worked on “Fellow Travelers” and who has served as a producer on “All American” and an EP on “All American: Homecoming.

‘Fellow Travelers’ Series Creator Ron Nyswaner Is “Not Ready To Retire” As There’s More Queer American History To Unveil
Image
What is it like to have an all-consuming romance over the course of 30 years? Screenwriter-director Ron Nyswaner has written movies for over four decades, earning an Oscar nomination for Philadelphia, and has worked on critically acclaimed shows like Ray Donovan and Homeland. And now, with Showtime’s limited series Fellow Travelers, Nyswaner makes his debut as a TV creator.

Based on the Thomas Mallon novel, Fellow Travelers is a sweeping, tragic love story and political thriller chronicling the clandestine romance of two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington. Matt Bomer plays Hawkins Fuller, a man with a successful career in politics who generally avoids emotional entanglements — until he meets the idealistic Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey). The two begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history.

‘Fly Me to the Moon’ Star Channing Tatum Recalls Filming at Kennedy Space Center, First Day on Set With Scarlett Johansson: I ‘Immediately Started Making Fun of Her Wig’
Image
Channing Tatum can’t recall the first scene he and Scarlett Johansson filmed together for “Fly Me to the Moon.” He does, however, remember where they first met: at a table read for the romantic comedy.

Although Tatum and Johansson were both involved in the films “Don Jon” and “Hail, Caeser!,” the two actors “never crossed paths,” as Tatum puts it, until “Fly Me to the Moon.”

“I remember us going down right after the table read to go into hair and makeup and start to try to figure out our look for the movie — it’s period and everything — and she was trying to figure out her wig for the movie,” Tatum told Variety at the “Fly Me to the Moon” premiere in New York City on Monday night. “I just immediately started making fun of her wig. Nathan Lane Praises ‘Birdcage’ Co-Star Robin Williams for Protecting Him Before He Came Out as Gay

Nathan Lane came out of the closet to his mother and two brothers at age 21, and says he marched in Pride parades as far back as the late 1970s. But it wasn’t until he started playing gay roles and saw his career explode thanks to Mike Nichols’ 1996 film The Birdcage that he experienced rampant speculation about his sexuality.

“I certainly wish I had been braver at the time,” Lane said while accepting a career achievement trophy during the LGBTQ+ Celebration of Cinema & Television at Fairmont Century Plaza on Friday. “Like when Oprah Winfrey on her show asked me why I was so good at all that girly stuff in The Birdcage. ‘All American: Homecoming’ Ending With Season 3 at The CW
Image
The CW is cutting ties with another of its pre-Nexstar original series.

The network announced Wednesday that the forthcoming third season of All American: Homecoming will be its last. The college-set spinoff of All American is set to premiere July 8.

The news comes a few days after The CW renewed All American for a seventh season — albeit for a shorter run (13 episodes) than most of its past seasons.

With the end of Homecoming, All American and the forthcoming fourth (and final) season of Superman & Lois are the only scripted holdovers from The CW’s previous Warner Bros.-CBS regime. (The network canceled WalkerA in May.) Since Nexstar took a controlling interest in the network in late 2022, it has jettisoned most of the scripted series from the earlier days and leaned into a less expensive co-production model for scripted shows as it looks to make The CW profitable for the first time.

Image
Since The Last Update

With the May 31 Emmys eligibility cutoff almost exactly one month away, Emmys-related action is picking up.

On April 22, Ryan Seacrest, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan came out for a screening and reception in Hollywood on behalf of ABC’s American Idol. Meanwhile, in New York, Peter Morgan, creator and principal writer of Netflix’s The Crown, was feted at the opening of his new Broadway play Patriots. And that same night, FX’s Shōgun had a well-received series — or season? — finale. (The following evening its lead actress, Anna Sawai, sat down with yours truly at Chapman University to record an episode of THR’s Awards Chatter podcast.)

On April 24, Max toasted the third season of Hacks (which debuts on May 2) with a party at the Chateau Marmont attended by the show’s creators and stars, including Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder. And at the same time,...

‘Fellow Travelers’ Sex Scenes Were Integral To ’50s-Set Story, Stars Matt Bomer & Jonathan Bailey Say — Contenders TV
Image
Fellow Travelers stars Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey waded into the sex-scenes debate at Deadline Contenders TV event Saturday. The actors got intimate on the set as characters Hawk and Tim in the Showtime limited series based on Thomas Mallon’s book that follows their love affair in the 1950s.

“I just feel like the characters were never the same after the scenes as they were before, which to me is always a sign that it’s integral to the story,” said Bomer, who plays Hawk. “The way they connected was so reflective of their societal conditions. It was therapeutic. It’s not always the most comfortable thing, but it was always an extension of their relationship.”

Bailey, who plays Tim, said the characters could not be open about their sexuality in the ‘50s. So their love scenes became the only place they truly could be themselves.

“They exist in...

“Ted Lasso,” “Yellowjackets,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and Renee Rapp were just a few of the winners from the 35th annual GLAAD Media Awards, held Thursday night at the Beverly Hilton.

It’s the first of two dual ceremonies — the second happens May 11 in New York City — but we’ll go out on a limb and say it’s the best one because it’s first, and in Los Angeles (just kidding). And prior to the awards actually being handed out, the stars were out in force with some absolutely iconic looks for the Red Carpet.

Among them were Sydney Sweeney, Wayne Brady, Chlöe, Jason Sudeikis, Niecy Nash, and that’s barely a sample. Read on and see some of the best outfits and fiercest attitudes from the GLAAD Media Awards 2024.

Ron Nyswaner will soon be traveling to New York to reunite with his Writers Guild of America East fellows for a grand occasion. The Oscar-nominated screenwriter, producer and showrunner has been selected to receive the Walter Bernstein Award at the 76th Writers Guild Awards at New York’s Edison Ballroom on April 14.

The honor — named after the late screenwriter who was blacklisted for his political views only to persevere and get his career back on track with such credits as Fail-Safe, Semi-Tough and Yanks — is presented to writers “who have demonstrated with creativity, grace and bravery a willingness to confront social injustice in the face of adversity,” per the organization.

Nyswaner has been doing that for pretty much his entire career. A prime example is Jonathan Demme’s 1993 film Philadelphia. Penned by Nyswaner, the Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington-starrer was the first major Hollywood film to dramatize the real-world...

Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey & 'Fellow Travelers' Costars Present a United Front at Critics Choice Awards 2024
Image
The cast of Fellow Travelers holds hands in a sign of unity ahead of the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday (January 14) in Santa Monica, Calif.

Costars Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, Allison Williams, Jelani Alladdin and Noah J. Ricketts posed for photos together outside Barker Hangar ahead of the ceremony, and they each looked fantastic!

Matt opted for a royal blue suit while Jonathan and Noah went with monochromatic black. Jelani wore a printed suit without a shirt and took the biggest risk by foregoing a shirt underneath his buttoned blazer.

Allison wowed in a white jumpsuit with crystal embellishments.

They were joined by producer Robbie Rogers on the red carpet, and Matt posed for some pics with his Maestro costar Bradley Cooper, too! We’ve got all the photos in the gallery.

Shortly into the night, the cast had something big to celebrate, too.

Ron Nyswaner Talks About The History, Politics And Sex In “Fellow Travelers” — And What It Means For Today’s LGBTQ Movement
Image
Ron Nyswaner, the executive producer and writer of the Showtime limited series Fellow Travelers, says that he feared there were three strikes against getting it made: “It’s period, it’s political and it’s gay.”

At a recent Washington, D.C. screening, though, he summed up some of the initial reaction to the completed project: “They love that it is period, that it is political and that it is gay.”

The eight-part Fellow Travelers, based on the book by Thomas Mallon, centers on the romance between the extroverted State Department official and cynical war hero “Hawk” Fuller, played by Matt Bomer, and idealistic aspiring Senate aide Tim Laughlin, played by Jonathan Bailey, a relationship that started during the McCarthy era of the 1950s and extends to the AIDS crisis of the 1980s.

Their chemistry is apparent from the moment they meet, briefly, at an election night party during the heavily closeted 1952 Washington,...
