10 Modern Anime You're Going To Hate If You're Older Than 30
Image
Anime is usually geared toward one of the four major demographics, with adult anime fans getting the most mileage out of seinen and josei. Seinen and josei tend to feature older character and deep content for adults, setting such anime apart from shonen and shojo. That means typical anime fans over 30 won't find much to like about shonen and shojo, especially of those anime series focus on the lives and angst of teenage characters.

As a general rule, anime fans 30 and over won't find much to like about teenage heroes, since those viewers can no longer relate to protagonists half their age, weakening the appeal of teen-centric anime series. Exceptions will always exist, such as older anime fans who get occasional nostalgia for their teen years through anime. That said, plenty of anime series are clearly written for tween or teenage viewers and won't have much to say to anime...

5 Anime Characters Who Dominated Anime in 2024 (And 5 Others You Overlooked)
Image
2024 was another great year for anime. It was filled with original stories, great set pieces, and plenty of interesting characters. Some characters got the limelight they deserved, taking center stage during 2024. Other characters were incredible but didn't get the attention they deserved, doing very well within their respective series but being overshadowed by big shows. Some of the most popular characters were obviously going to be big from the beginning, like Goku's resurgence in Dragon Ball Daima.

Other characters took the world by storm out of nowhere, like one of the best elves in anime Frieren from the legendary Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. While some characters got the screen time they deserved, others sat back and became largely underrated, giving people who didn't initially watch their shows a great reason to tune back in and see some of the best from 2024.

20 Best Seinen Manga, Ranked
Image
For most, the world of anime and manga is dominated by shonen series, typically action-focused storyies aimed primarily at a young male demographic (famed hits like Dragon Ball Z and even Death Note included). However, there are also anime and manga aimed at an older demographic, and that category is known as seinen.

So, what is seinen? "Seinen" is media aimed at older males in their late teens and 20s. In general, these series tend to star older protagonists, feature more explicit content, and deal with darker subject matter (though not all have to). While that male audience is the only real requirement to be seinen, the series can be enjoyed by anyone, and contains the variety to do exactly that. Below are ten of the absolute best seinen series available, offering great entry points into this diverse and underappreciated genre.

Anime Characters Who Share Mha Toga's English Voice Actor
Image
Himiko Toga is one of the beloved and intricately complex characters of My Hero Academia's League of Villains. She is known for her unique interest in the blood of those who have managed to win her affections, as well as her heartbreaking backstory. Like the other members of the League of Villains, she was outcast by a society that praised the perfect and rejected anything that fell out of normal appeal.

Leah Clark, the woman responsible for translating Togas complicated character into English, gives the performance of a lifetime as everyones favorite devilishly cute vampire girl. However, aside from Toga, Clark's career spans across many notable anime series, displaying the epic range of her voice-acting talents in numerous characters.

10 Most Annoying Modern Anime Characters, Ranked
Image
While the vast realm of anime is home to beloved and inspiring heroes like Son Goku, Yuji Itadori, and Izuku Midoriya, not every character is a fan-favorite. Some of them are noxious and horrible antagonists, while others live in the middle ground: innocent enough to not be the worst villains, but not likable enough to be iconic heroes. These annoying, irritating characters are seemingly designed to rub the viewers the wrong way.

Such annoying characters are also liable to pester and frustrate the surrounding characters, making their unpleasant personalities that much more distinct. Sometimes, those characters know they're antagonizing everyone around them, while other cases, they don't even have enough self-awareness to know that they're behaving badly. The most irritating, tiresome characters have few fans, or they might be polarizing, having fans who like them despite their behavior and detractors who simply want them gone.

Best Characters of Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines!, Ranked
Image
Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.

Makeine: Too Many Losing Heroines! is one of the most popular anime series of the Summer 2024 lineup, highly praised for its well-written and painfully relatable characters, introspective plot, and stunning animation (credited to A-1 Pictures). This slice-of-life romantic comedy based on Takibi Amamoris light novel is a hit anime that will continue to be loved long after its final episode airs.

A huge part of Makeine's appeal is its characters, who are not only realistically written versions of common anime stereotypes but also possess a unique charm that endears them to viewers, especially the so-called "losing heroines" of the series. Each character leaves the audience looking forward to their growth and victory, regardless of the anime's title.
