Remember that sudden explosion of zombie media that was sparked by the success of AMC’s The Walking Dead back in 2010? While the popular opinion these days is that the oversaturation of zombie stories ended up taking all the bite out of the genre, I actually think that this period offered up a bunch of truly interesting (and often deliciously meta) takes on a familiar premise – you just had to know how to find them among the cheap cash-grabs and knock-offs.
One such gem happened to be Manel Loureiro’s Apocalypse Z, a Spanish blog about a crafty everyman protagonist attempting to survive a more realistic take on the zombie apocalypse. Over time, the blog became so popular that Loureiro ended up publishing the ensuing saga as a trilogy of novels following Francisco and his cat throughout their journey across a zombie-infected Europe.

Shooting to the top of Prime Video's most-watched list following its Halloween debut, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is an effective Spanish zombie movie with plenty more story to tell. The popular horror movie faithfully adapts Manel Laureiro's 2007 novel, Apocalipsis Z: El Principio Del Fin, which follows Manel (Francisco Ortiz), a lawyer and solar power entrepreneur, as he tries to reunite with his family during a pandemic that has turned innocent people into flesh-starved zombies.
Considering Apocalypse Z's instant success and popular viewership, a cinematic sequel is more than warranted. Fortunately, Loureiro has already penned a pair of follow-up tales, making for an ideal Spanish zombie trilogy that Prime Video should pursue. For...

Prime Video's new apocalyptic zombie movie has become a streaming success. Amazon's streaming service has been consistently producing original movies since 2019, although they take on a variety of genres, they started making horror movies about a year in, including Black Box, The Lie, Nocturne, and Evil Eye. Since then, that roster has expanded significantly to include more movies, such as Bingo Hell, Black as Night, Madres, The Manor, Master, Goodnight Mommy, Nanny, and perhaps Prime Video's most popular horror movie, Totally Killer.
On the series side, one of Prime Video's most popular efforts is the post-apocalyptic drama Fallout, based on the Bethesda video game series of the same name, which has been renewed for a second season. Though some of its content could be categorized as post-apocalyptic, Prime Video has never directly dabbled in the zombie before. However, its first feature-length installment in the genre has recently seen an unexpected...

In 2024, “Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End” will become a thrilling Spanish zombie movie that people all over the world can’t stop watching. The movie, directed by Carles Torrens and based on Manel Loureiro’s famous book series, is a new take on the zombie genre, combining personal drama with post-apocalyptic survival.
In Spain, the movie is about a sad widower named Manel (Francisco Ortiz) whose life changes drastically when the Tsj virus spreads, causing a pandemic like rabies that turns people into violent, infected animals. Manel is alone in a world that is quickly falling apart after losing his wife in a terrible car accident. His beloved cat, Lúculo, is the only thing that keeps him company.
The movie is more important than just another zombie story. It’s not just another end-of-the-world show; it’s a complex look at how strong people are, with surprising connections to the recent Covid-19 pandemic.

Directed by Carles Torrens, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is based on Manel Loureiro's novel of the same name. Spain has given us some masterful films about the walking dead over the years, including The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue, Tombs of the Blind Dead and its sequels, and more recently the Rec franchise. Now we have Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End (Apocalypse Z: El Principio del Fin) based on the first book of novelist Manel Loureiro’s Apocalypse Z trilogy about a cat-loving lawyer’s struggle to survive a world overrun by zombies.
A year after losing his wife in a Christmas Eve car crash, Manel still hasn’t recovered mentally. He lives alone with his cat Lúculo and ignores the news broadcast on his television about a fast spreading pandemic, the Tsj Virus, that’s throwing the world into chaos.
His sister Belen and her husband are...

Amazon Prime Video released another streaming success with director Carles Torrens' Spanish zombie film, Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End. Based on a novel by Manel Loureiro, this action-packed horror movie follows a reclusive young man trying to reunite with his family when a widespread virus turns people into violent zombies.
Led by actor Francisco Ortiz, the cast of Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End features many international acting stars, including Narcos: Mexico's Jose Mara Yazpik. Not every actor in this cast is a household name, but that didn't stop this thrilling new zombie film from becoming the no. 1 film on Amazon Prime Video since its premiere on October 31, 2024. With each of their characters, each actor in Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End helped introduce a rich, new world overrun with zombies, making it one of the best movies now on Amazon Prime Video.

Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End has made a surprising appearance at the top of the Prime Video global chart. The Spanish zombie action thriller is making a big impact on the platform since dropping with dozens of other titles on November 1, currently now in second place behind Mark Wahlbergs sci-fi movie Infinite.
The film, which has the original title of Apocalipsis Z: El principio del fin, follows a mans attempts to get back to his family while trying to avoid people who have been infected by a global pandemic that turns them into crazed creatures. If all of this sounds like the plot of several other zombie movies, then you would be right, but according to the films reviews, that doesnt make much difference if you are someone who devours this kind of fast-paced horror.

We can all agree upon the fact that the zombie genre, despite being done to death, is functionally immortal when it comes to pop culture. “The Walking Dead” franchise is still going on (even though the spin-off shows have mostly been so-so); “The Last of Us” has an excellent HBO adaptation of the first game, and the second one is on the pipeline; and then every now and then a zombie movie/series pops up. It only proves that the appeal of this genre is not dying down, and a movie like Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is a burning example of that. Directed by Carles Torrens, the movie is adapted from the best-selling novel of the same name by Spanish author Manel Loureiro. Since I haven’t read the novel, it is hard for me to say how faithful the movie remains to the book, but as a movie,...

Released yesterday on Prime Video, the divisive zombie thriller Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End is already tearing up the charts, rising to number two on the Top 10 list here in the United States. Directed by Carles Torrens and based on the novel by Manel Loureiro, the film stars Francisco Ortiz as a man struggling to rejoin his family after a global outbreak has turned much of the population into undead creatures hungry for human flesh.
Per Flix Patrol, Apocalypse Z now sits in the number two slot at the time of this writing, just 24 hours after its premiere on Prime Video, where it's available to watch for those with a Prime Membership. Debuting earlier this year at the 57th Sitges Film Festival in Spain, the Spanish-language flick has been dividing critics, who are split down the middle on how they feel about it. “Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End” is a Spanish thriller movie directed by Carles Torrens. It is written by Ángel Agudo, and based on the novel by Manel Loureiro. it stars Francisco Ortiz. With José María Yázpik, Berta Vázquez, and Marta Poveda.
Prime Video brings us the latest film by Carles Torrens, presenting a storyline that will undoubtedly resonate with everyone: a deadly virus spreads worldwide, turning its hosts into brainless creatures that attack anyone who crosses their path with ferocious violence. Yes, the zombie virus has arrived, and Spain is not an exception when it comes to producing zombie movies and their countless variations, especially in an era where, after Covid and lockdowns, we all dread the emergence of an even worse virus.
This is a golden opportunity for production companies, capitalizing on collective fear to create films that often feel like repetitions of their predecessors, both in...
