Apple TV+ recently released its new sports drama series Stick, and many people were excited. With Owen Wilson in the lead role and the success of Ted Lasso still fresh in viewers’ minds, expectations were high. Even when the show was first teased, it was clearly stated that it came from the same streamer that brought us Ted Lasso. As a result, fans were hoping for a similar mix of comedy, heart, and feel-good moments.
But after a few episodes, many viewers feel something is missing. Stick doesn’t seem to connect the way Ted Lasso did. The idea is there, and the lead actor has charm, but something important just isn’t sticking. So what went wrong? One major problem might be the characters, who are not as charming or likable as those in Ted Lasso.

If you are looking to name someone the maestro of the modern television comedy, it would be hard to look past Bill Lawrence. The creator and showrunner behind some of the most acclaimed comedies of the 21st century, including Scrubs, Ted Lasso, and Shrinking, Lawrence has left an indelible mark on the television industry.
At the 2025 Atx TV Festival, in a panel lovingly called “Bill Lawrence & Friends,” Lawrence, along with some of the actors from his various shows — Zach Braff (Scrubs), Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster (Ted Lasso), Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town), and Charly Clive — reflected on his past work and exciting things to come.

Director Colin Trevorrow is swapping out dinosaurs for bringing in aliens for his next feature film. The Jurassic World filmmaker is set to direct an untitled conspiracy thriller about Area 51 for Paramount Pictures.
According to Deadline, Trevorrow will direct and produce the untitled movie about the local Las Vegas TV news journalist who first broke the story of Area 51 in the late 1980s. Area 51 is the common name for Homey Airport, a highly classified United States Air Force facility in Southern Nevada that many believe is where the government stores recovered UFOs and other extraterrestrial artifacts. Thomas and William Wheeler wrote the script. Trevorrow will produce through his Metronome banner, while Ryan Reynolds is on board through his Maximum Effort production company.

Apple TV+ original show Ted Lasso, a sports comedy-drama, is one of the greatest shows to come out. From making you laugh while holding your stomach to holding back your tears, the show is guaranteed to take you on an emotional journey. The story is great, the casting is top-notch, and, as with all Apple shows, the production is exceptional.
The series never fails to surprise, and one of the best aspects of the show is its character arcs. You will not find another comedy or drama show that portrays character arcs as beautifully as this one, and one of the main characters with the most compelling character arc is none other than Phil Dunster, who played the entitled football player Jamie Tartt. He was a standout actor, and one thing that shone a spotlight on him was his Mancunian accent.

The original Apple TV+ show, Ted Lasso, which started as a series of promotional media for the Premier League in NBC’s sports coverage, turned into one of the most notable TV shows we could have. This sports drama turned out to be way more than just about sports; it featured heartfelt moments, scenes of motivation, and emotions, as well as some of the best-written characters to appear on television.
Every single character in the series stands out, be it their personality or their ideology, the dialogues—there is always something distinct about those who show up on the screen. The way Hannah Waddingham as Rebecca commanded a room, or Brett Goldstein as Roy Kent saying so much with barely saying anything, or at times just grunting, or the best part being Phil Dunster and his hilarious Manchester accent saying things like “remember it’s just poopeh.” But did you...

Ted Lasso is one of those TV shows that will make you watch a sport you did not follow until now. Most of the US, which knows the universally known sport football as soccer, now has a better understanding of the Premier League, Champions League, relegation, and even what offside means.
It was beautiful to see a quirky American football coach land in Europe and train a struggling soccer club. The fun plot, paired with some brilliant writing, helped Ted Lasso take the world by storm. The Apple TV+ original delivered some of the best drama, laugh-out-loud moments, and characters you can’t help but root for. It struck a perfect balance between heart and humor, turning even casual viewers into emotionally invested fans. And the best part? The love for soccer isn’t just on screen. The show’s creators—and several of its stars—are actual soccer fans in real life.

Apple TV+’s most-streamed show, Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Phil Dunster, Brendan Hunt, and more, is one of the shows that changed the dynamics of portraying a sports-comedy drama on-screen. The theme, humor, writing, and tone of the show have added to its success and popularity, apart from the exceptional performances by every actor in the show.

Apple TV+ confirmed in March that its Emmy-winning comedy “Ted Lasso” will return for a fourth season, but details on when cameras would roll remained scarce until Hannah Waddingham disclosed this week that production is scheduled to begin in July in London. The actor, who plays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, told Collider the cast had already “mourned” the show’s end and now feels “it’s rising from the dead,” signalling a full reunion of the locker-room ensemble.
Waddingham’s update dovetails with showrunner-star Jason Sudeikis’ March appearance on the “New Heights” podcast, where he confirmed the writers’ room was drafting new episodes and teased a switch to coaching a women’s side rather than Richmond’s men’s squad. Apple’s renewal announcement listed Sudeikis as the returning lead and executive producer but left other contracts unspecified; industry tracker Decider reports that most regulars, including Brett Goldstein and Juno Temple,...

Yeah, she was in the MCU before Simu Liu even picked up Shang-Chi’s costume for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Fans may not know her ethnicity, but iconic actress Chloe Bennet is of Asian descent.
People forgot about her after Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. concluded with a finale in 2020, and it’s a shame that no one really remembers that Bennet was the first Asian superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe long before Liu’s Shang-Chi! However, when asked about it, Bennet revealed that she doesn’t really care for it.
Being Asian isn’t a “trend” for Chloe Bennet
There was a time when Asian actors and actresses faced discrimination in Hollywood. Although legends like Jackie Chan made a name for themselves, others like Michelle Yeoh had to fight for their awards and fame.

Usually on television, character development seems to be a fine balancing act between abrupt and gradual. Ted Lasso has been able to achieve that balance, especially in the portrayal of the character Jamie Tartt. At the beginning of the show, he was introduced as a self-absorbed football genius who didn’t care about much else.
His journey from arrogance to humility is neither continuous nor quick. There’s a very important scene that shows the nuanced progression of his character arc. This scene in Season 3 Episode 6, called “Sunflowers”, where Jamie starts to confront his past traumas and begins his reconciliation journey with his own self, depicts the show’s commitment towards the portrayal of human growth in its most authentic form.

Steve Carell’s new comedy series hit Netflix this past weekend, and after immediately jumping to the #1 spot on the streamer’s chart, everyone is already asking questions about a potential Season 2. Carell stars alongside Colman Domingo and Tina Fey in The Four Seasons, the romantic comedy series following three couples who go on a vacation together. The show is based on the 1981 film of the same name from Alan Alda, with Fey adapting the new series to TV with Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. Wigfield recently sat down for an interview with TV Insider to talk about the new series, and when asked about a potential Season 2, she expressed where she would like to see the show go:
“If we did another season, we would want the same group of friends, and we’d want Ginny to really be tied in there because she and Anne are going to have children who are siblings.

The Scrubs reboot series just got a major update from Disney TV boss Eric Schrier. After months of rumors, it was finally announced at the end of last year that a Scrubs reboot series was officially in development. While details about the project have been kept under wraps since the announcement, it has been confirmed that original creator Bill Lawrence will work on the show once more. It’s unclear at this time if any members of the original cast will return or if the show will feature new stars. Schrier recently sat down for a tell-all interview with Deadline to talk about the future of Disney TV, and he was asked if the reboot is coming together and if he’s confident that it’s going to happen:

Some characters just stick with you, and they might start off as punchlines but eventually win you over with their growth and a good old-fashioned redemption arc. Only a few shows have done this better than Ted Lasso, and amongst its most unforgettable names is Phil Dunster.
I felt like season 3 left me with a bittersweet aftertaste. We got our answers, and arcs were completed, but now with season 4 on the horizon, I wonder what’s next for the characters. So here I am, waiting and theorizing, and I just hope that the story is far from over.

In the age of prestige television, Ted Lasso dared to be something that most shows forgot how to be, i.e., sincere, and that’s what I love about it. Now that season 4 has been announced, I do feel a tinge of excitement, but also a wave of anxiety. I’m not sure if they could bring back the emotional punches that we weren’t truly ready for, but deeply needed in the first three seasons.
Can it create casual viewers into loyalists? Honestly, I’m not sure because to me the Jason Sudeikis creation wasn’t just entertainment, but storytelling done right, and a prime example of that is the dart scene in the pub. So while I’ll tune into season 4, I’ve already made peace with the fact that the show might not hit the same again, but I still need them to feature Roy Kent with full swagger!

Apple TV+’s one of the most-watched sports comedy dramas, Ted Lasso, is all set to return for season four after initially wrapping up the series after three seasons. Jason Sudeikis confirmed the news that the writers for the show are back in the writers’ room for season four’s storyline. Brett Goldstein, who not only stars on the show as Roy Kent but is also a part of the writers’ room, also mentioned that the team is now back and working on the script.
The announcement in March 2025 has not only thrilled the show’s ardent fans but also made them curious about what kind of storyline the writers will choose for the upcoming season. Phil Dunster’s Jamie Tartt was someone fans came to love so much as his arc progressed from Ted Lasso Season 1 to Season 3. We were devastated to hear that he is not making a return to the fourth season of the beloved series. While Tartt’s character development was praiseworthy, fans are still confused about one thing about him.
In Season One of the show, we initially hated seeing the arrogant footballer on the field. Tartt was often described as a great soccer player and the best player in the AFC Richmond lineup. However, it appears that the latter seasons forgot that Tartt was a football prodigy. The confusing plot element never got a proper ending in the series.

When Ted Lasso wrapped up its season 3, it felt like the natural progression of the story, reaching its destined end. It didn’t seem forced or rushed in any way, felt like most of the characters had reached the end of their growth arc, and the story could be left on a beautiful note in the sense that it came full circle.
When a fourth season was recently announced, it came as a surprise and left people wondering what new could be done with Ted Lasso and his story. It would have to be a completely different setting and a completely new and innovative storyline for things to make sense now.

Ted Lasso quickly climbed the charts for being one of Apple TV+’s best series due to its unique blend of personal storytelling and optimism. By the time they got to season 3, there were certain character arcs that felt a bit underdeveloped and rushed.
What a lot of viewers did not realize is that the writers of the show made a conscious effort to delete a few scenes from the show that could have offered some more emotional depth and clarity. It was done to leave room for the viewer’s imagination and interpretation, even if it came at a cost of sacrificing closure to the narrative.

Ted Lasso managed to hook audiences worldwide, and it wasn’t just due to its storyline and witty dialogue but also the unforgettable characters. We all adored Jason Sudeikis’ Ted, but another standout performer in the series was Phil Dunster, who played Jamie Tart.

Ted Lasso is a show that technically shouldn’t have worked, but it did, thanks to the heartfelt and hilarious way in which it presents optimism. Jason Sudeikis’ brainchild is wholesome in the most unique way, and it came at a time when the world needed something hopeful.

Ted LassoSeason 4 has opened its writer's room and is well on its way. But series star Brett Goldstein is still awestruck about the show coming back in the first place, and he used a very Roy Kent-esque metaphor to describe how he was feeling.
While on the Wild Card podcast with Rachel Martin, Goldstein told a slightly offbeat story about a dead cat when asked about Ted Lasso. “I have a friend that I went to university with, and I think about this a lot,” he said, via Deadline. “He had a cat that died. He loved his cat, and the cat was run over, and they buried the cat, buried it. And he was a child."
The story sounded like it was turning into Stephen King's Pet Sematary before Goldstein went on, "They buried the cat in the garden, and he lay in bed so sad, so upset and crying,...

Guess what? Ted Lasso is making a comeback! Yep, even though season 3 wrapped things up in a way that seemed final, fans just weren’t ready to say goodbye. And honestly, who can blame them? The show has been a comforting mix of feel-good vibes, quirky characters, and moments that hit you right in the heart. So, when news broke in 2024 that a season 4 might actually happen, it brought back a tide of excitement.
Of course, the big question on everyone’s mind is — who’s coming back? Because let’s be real, a show is only as good as its characters, and Ted Lasso’s cast is a huge part of what made it special. If the key faces stick around, there’s a good chance season 4 will recapture the show’s original magic beautifully again. So, here’s a look at which actors have been confirmed so far.

Actor Jason Sudeikis, alongside Brendan Hunt, Bill Lawrence, and Joe Kelly, back in 2015 revisited his character of Ted Lasso, which was portrayed as a part of a series of television commercials for NBC Sports. The creative minds then started to develop Ted Lasso for Apple TV+, which went on to be one of the most watched shows on the streaming platform.
In March 2025, the co-creator confirmed that the series, which was presumed to have concluded its run on the streaming platform after three seasons, is going to return with a fourth season.
He didn’t dwell on it so much as the studios shared that they are in the early stages of the production. This gave the fans a lot of time to go back and explore the relationships on the show, and to be honest, they were kind of disappointed.

Dunster’s Quinn Huntley emerged as a compelling character in the second season of the show, which constantly turned any attempted perception of its main character Sophie Ellis (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who sometimes goes by an alter ego Tess Caldwell, on its head, challenging everything viewers think they know about her as well as those closest to her like her husband James (Oliver Jackson Cohen) and her estranged childhood best friend Eliza Huntley (Millie Brady), Quinn’s sister.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Surface Season 2 finale “Unearthed.”] It’s time for Sophie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) — and the audience — to hopefully find out more about another part of her life, should Surface return for a third season. The second ended with Sophie bringing news of where her mother’s body is buried — on the estate of the powerful Huntley family, after the wife of Sophie’s biological father shot her — to the police, after her former friend and (surprise this season!) sister Eliza (Millie Brady) realized. But the police told her there are warrants out for her arrest (under the alias Tess Caldwell), a shock to Sophie. Elsewhere in the finale, Quinn Huntley (Phil Dunster) and Grace (Freida Pinto) did get married, despite some of the questions she had about his family, and journalist Callum (Gavin Drea) chose to help Sophie and James (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) escape the cops. For three glorious seasons, Ted Lasso has kept us wrapped in a feel-good flavor, the triumph of the underdogs, the underlying family feeling in the team, and significant lessons served like cheese with wine. With season 4 just around the corner, I’d have to say I’m not too excited.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a good show, my problem is that it may be too good-too righteous, too sweet, too easy. Haven’t we had our fair share of pep talks, happy endings, and locker room banter in the three seasons so far?

For me, the show seems to have completed the emotional arc it set out to achieve. You know what would be cool? A spin-off, about one of the most troubled and layered characters of the show, Jamie Tartt!
