Screen International, in association withFís Éireann/ScreenIreland, has unveiled the filmmakers and actors selected for the 2025Rising StarsIreland talent spotlight.

10emergingactors, directors, producers and writers who are on the verge of their major professional breakthrough have been selected. Those chosen are all either Irish nationals and/or based full-time on the Island ofIreland.

Rising StarsIreland is a biannual joint initiative from Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland andScreen International, and is an offshoot ofScreen’sUK & Ireland Stars of Tomorrowprogramme. Theinaugural edition ran in 2023.

The 39-year-old Happy Valley actor sported fake blood on his head as he filmed scenes for the upcoming House of Guinness series on Monday (November 25) in Liverpool, England.

According to Deadline, the series is “billed as an epic story inspired by The Guinness family, a European dynasty made famous by the drink they brew. Set in 19th-century Dublin and New York, the story reimagines the period immediately after the death of Sir Benjamin Guinness, the man responsible for the extraordinary success of the Guinness brewery, and the far-reaching impact of his will on the fate of his four adult children, Arthur, Edward, Anne, and Ben, as well as on a group of Dublin characters who work and interact with the phenomenon that is Guinness.”

Jack Gleeson appeared on Game of Thrones for four seasons as boy king Joffrey Baratheon, a character so vile and loathsome that fans universally cheered when he was poisoned to death at his own wedding. Gleeson became famous off the back of that role, but being best known as a preening, sadistic jackass probably isn't the kind of famous most of us would like, which might be part of the reason Gleeson laid low for a while after he exited the series. James Norton and Jack Gleeson have been named among the cast for Steven Knight-penned Guinness factory drama series.

Set in 19th-century Dublin, Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn and Fionn O’Shea play the four grown up children of legendary brewer Sir Benjamin Guinness.

The eight-part series has begun production and is produced by Banijay-owned Kudos (This Town). Knight has written and exec produces the project. Steven Knight has penned a series about the Guinness family and it has just begun production. More on the project below.

Lately, Steven Knight has been busy prepping the upcoming Peaky Blinders film which is due to start filming this September, but it looks like the British writer has had time to work on other things too.

Netflix has announced today that a new series, titled House Of Guinness, has gone into production with Knight credited as writer, creator and executive producer. As you might guess from the title, the series will look at the family behind one of the world’s most popular breweries.

Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, Fionn O’Shea, James Norton, Niamh McCormack, Seamus O’Hara, Jack Gleeson, Dervla Kirwan, Michael McElhatton, Danielle Galligan, David Wilmot and Hilda Fay will star in the Netflix series, but the streamer hasn’t provided a release window for House Of Guinness quite just yet.

Exclusive: Award-winning stage actor Jos Vantyler and Niahm McCormack (Everything Now) are starring in an international action drama series the explores the dark side of detective work and artificial intelligence.

The pair will star in Cold Mind, an indie production from Algarve-based Spy Manor Productions that begins principal photography in Portugal next Monday (April 15). They’ll appear alongside Portuguese actors Joana Seixas and Paulo Calatre.

The show follows a young detective from London (McCormack) who is thrown into a Portuguese murder investigation, as a spree of horrific killings take place in the sunbaked Algarve. At the same time, other timelines on another continent as the plots dips in the action, detective, tech and mystery genres.

McCormack is best known for her role in Netflix’s British comedy-drama Everything Now and The Witcher. She is represented by The Lisa Richards Agency.

Everything Now will not return for a second season. Netflix has cancelled the British teen comedy-drama series, according to an interview with Dylan Brady on Film Update. The actor (Mary & George), Coronation Street) was involved in the writing of the series and authored the sixth episode.

The Everything Now series, which stars Sophie Wilde, Lauryn Ajufo, Harry Cadby, Noah Thomas, Stephen Fry, Niamh McCormack, Sam Reuben, Vivienne Acheampong, and Alex Hassell, launched in October 2023.

Golenberg and fellow Silver Lining partner Jason Shapiro have launched Strand Entertainment, a management and production company based in Los Angeles, bringing most of Silver Lining’s managers with them. Maydew has formed his own management/production company, 734 Media. The split we hear was amicable, with the former partners’ paths diverging, a process accelerated by the pandemic.

One of the many projects currently being presented to potential buyers at the Cannes Film Market is the vampire horror film Feed, which is set to star Daisy Jelley (whose credits include the Cannes Film Festival debut How to Have Sex), Clinton Liberty (Normal People), and Niamh McCormack of Willow and The Witcher. Written and directed by Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin), Feed will follow a group of twentysomething social media influencers battle for their lives at a remote contemporary mansion when they awaken the world’s original female vampire.

Jac Kerrin and Dominic Wright of Ripple World are producing the film while Umedia co-produces. Niamh Fagan is executive producing for Screen Ireland/Fís Éireann, which are providing the financing. Filming is expected to take place in Ireland sometime this fall.

Shout! Studios presents The Magic Flute by Florian Zigl, executive produced by Roland Emmerich, at 325 theaters with expansion likely. A reimagining of the Mozart opera, it follows a present-day teen sent from London to the Austrian Alps on singing scholarship at the legendary Mozart boarding school. There, he discovers a century old forgotten passageway into the magical world of Mozart’s famed opera.

This Harry Potter-ish adventure fantasy stars Jack Wolfe as Tim Walker, who passes from school into the world of the opera and its many adventures as hero Prince Tamino. Wide releases may be picking up steam and Scream, but in terms of new specialty, and family fare, these isn’t much new competition this weekend.

Melissa Boag, EVP of Family Entertainment at Shout! Studios, hopes it will play with fans of magical adventure, Harry Potter, and classical music. Wolfe is a star of Netflix YA series Shadow & Bone.
