Alison Pill On Myrtle's Maturity & Potential Moon Landing In Hello Tomorrow
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Hello Tomorrow! season 1 finale.Hello Tomorrow!, Apple TV+'s retrofuturistic sci-fi series about a crooked salesman trying to send customers to the moon, has recently concluded its first season. The Morning Show's Billy Crudup, who also serves as an executive producer, stars as the mouthpiece for the operation: Jack Billings. Despite the fact that he is currently running a scam, his hope is to one day turn it into reality, which has a twisted sense of righteousness until the train runs off the tracks and real people's livelihoods and lives are at stake.

After literally betting her house on a shot at life on the moon, Myrtle found her hopes dashed with the repeated delays of the launch and the shady dealings at Brightside Lunar Residences. But despite partnering up with dogged investigator Lester (Matthew Maher), she found herself believing in the dream once more, and...

Hello Tomorrow! Clip Sees Billy Crudup's Lies Crumbling [Exclusive]
Image
Screen Rant is proud to present an exclusive clip from the newest episode of Hello Tomorrow!, which just dropped on Apple TV+. The sci-fi dramedy takes place in an alternate reality that is full of 1950s values despite access to robots and floating vehicles. Amidst the rampant consumerism of society, a sales team working for BrightSide Lunar Residences is trying to make an honest living selling houses for a community on the moon. But if a brighter tomorrow is ready today, that begs the question of why the launch keeps getting delayed.

Hello Tomorrow! stars Billy Crudup (The Morning Show) as the team's fearless leader Jack Billings', a man whose charm and talent could sell someone sand in the desert. But while he seems fully aware that there is nowhere for his unsuspecting customers to land on the moon, his loyal and hardworking employees seem to be none the wiser.

Tex Avery and Flying Cars: Finding the Darkness in the World of ‘Hello Tomorrow’
Image
The world of “Hello Tomorrow” loves both the retro and future in its retro-future aesthetic, lending the Apple TV+ series a visual distinctiveness. While the story itself — an exploration of ambition, the American Dream, and family ties — deals in classic tropes, the show’s presentation blends the greatest stylistic hits of the ’40s, ’50s, and ’60s with technological leaps of fancy straight out of a World’s Fair catalog and an episode of “The Jetsons.”

Less obvious an influence? Tex Avery, one of the most significant contributors to the Looney Tunes characters and the man behind a series of cartoons outlining the World of Tomorrow, whose work acted as inspiration for the pleasant facades and gizmo-gadgets of the series’ Vistaville. A mouse-trap, Rube Goldbergesque vibe suffuses the world of “Hello Tomorrow,” where cheerfulness masks latent violence — as suburban housewife Marie (Annie McNamara) finds out all too quickly moments into the first episode,...

TheWrap spoke with co-creators Lucas Jansen and Amit Bhalla and stars Crudup and Nicholas Podany to learn more about the show’s characters and themes, and how the series tackles the “disastrous ramifications” of radical optimism.

Hello Tomorrow Showrunners On Crafting The New Retrofuture Series
Image
Apple TV+'s newest dramedy, Hello Tomorrow!, offers viewers the moon. Focused on a group of traveling salesmen who hawk lunar timeshares for a living, the series takes place in a retro-future world that sees 1950s morality come together with the tech of tomorrow. But in consumer-hungry America, no one is ever happy with what they have, which is why BrightSide Lunar Residences offers citizens a chance to start over on the moon.

Hello Tomorrow!'s incredible attention to detail can be attributed to director Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This), who helmed the first four episodes, and to showrunners Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen. The duo swung for the fences despite it being their first job of such scale, and they have a stellar cast to back them up. Billy Crudup (a fan favorite from Apple TV+'s The Morning Show) leads the way as Jack Billings,...

Hello Tomorrow!: Billy Crudup and Nicholas Podany Wanna Sell You on Their Retro-Futuristic Apple Dramedy
Image
Though they merely play salesmen in Apple TV+‘s new comedy, Hello Tomorrow!, Billy Crudup and Nicholas Podany clearly learned a thing or two about hawking timeshares on… the moon.

“Tell me something, Matt — how’s that office there treating you?” asked Podany during a recent Zoom call with TVLine. “Is it big enough? You got enough light coming in? Well, up on the moon there’s nothing but acres for you to do whatever you like up there. You like seeing the stars? Boom, baby!”

‘Hello Tomorrow!’ Stars Talk Selling Real Estate on the Moon (Video)
Hello Tomorrow! (2023)
Hello Tomorrow!, premiering February 17 on Apple TV+, may be set in what looks like 1950s America, but this is very much a retro-future world, one created by Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen and in which people sell real estate on the moon. “It’s meant to let people see what America’s going to look like in the future and what it has looked like in the past and what it is like in the present. It is America as we’ve seen America in a lot of different iterations, all of which are driving for the same thing: sell, sell, sell,” says one of the show’s stars Billy Crudup, who plays salesman Jack Billings. Crudup sat down with Haneefah Wood (Shirley Stedman), Dewshane Williams (Herb Porter), and Alison Pill (Myrtle Mayburn) to talk about the new series with TV Insider’s Kate Hahn during the Winter 2023 Television Critics Association Press Tour.

Hello Tomorrow! Cast On Shooting For The Moon In Their New Series
Image
If Mad Men met a live-action version of The Jetsons, it might look something like Hello Tomorrow! on Apple TV+. The latest prestige dramedy takes place in a nebulous future that is also simultaneously the 1950s, where a team of traveling salesmen offers Earth residents a new home on the moon. With its first four episodes directed by Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This), showrunners Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen manage to paint a perfect picture of their imperfect, consumer-driven wonderland.

But Hello Tomorrow!'s biggest asset is its big-name cast, complete with lovable screw-up characters like Billy Crudup's Jack (who may have a few personality traits in common with his other Apple TV+ role on The Morning Show). Having left his wife and son behind to devote himself to BrightSide Lunar Residences, his coworkers are his true family. Chief among them is the gambling addict Senior...

Billy Crudup & Nicholas Podany On The Screen Magic Of Hello Tomorrow!
Image
Everybody's selling something, but it's not usually a house on the moon. Hello Tomorrow!, Apple TV+'s latest dramedy, centers on a group of salesmen living in a futuristic version of the 1950s who are offering consumers a fresh start and a lunar residency. The four episodes are directed by Jonathan Entwistle (I Am Not Okay With This), who beautifully captures the aesthetics of the world crafted by first-time showrunners Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen.

Hello Tomorrow! boast a top-notch cast led by Billy Crudup (who also graces Apple TV+'s The Morning Show), who plays the dangerously optimistic Jack Billings. Jack is so devoted to selling the dream of lunar timeshares alongside his coworkers that he hasn't seen his wife or son Joey (Nicholas Podany) in years. Hoping to rectify that, he takes Joey under his wing as a rookie salesman without revealing his identity — or the truth behind BrightSide Lunar Residences.

Billy Crudup’s ‘Hello Tomorrow’ Shoots for the Moon and Gets Lost in the Stars
Image
At first, the setting of “Hello Tomorrow” looks familiar. White picket fences border lush green yards. Classic cars cruise through the quaint neighborhood. A mother walks her baby in a sweet, blue bassinet… except the bassinet doesn’t have wheels. Neither do the cars. And those yards are being watered by flying robots, painted in pastel hues sure to please the Betty Draper-types who own them. (Not that Betty Draper takes kindly to hovering interlopers.)

Merging ’50s Americana with futuristic machinery, “Hello Tomorrow” comes across like “Mad Men” mixed with “The Jetsons” — a “retro future” that combines customs of the past with space-age technology… also of the past. The technology in Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen’s Apple TV+ series is the stuff of baby boomers’ imaginations, not Gen Z’s, meaning there’s no cell phones, internet, or even color TV. Instead, commuters fly to work in the...

‘Hello Tomorrow!’ Review: Billy Crudup in Apple TV+’s Style-Over-Substance Futuristic Dramedy
Image
If there’s one thing Apple TV+’s Hello Tomorrow! knows, it’s how to paint a pretty picture. The exteriors of its retro-futuristic world are replete with sleek hovercars and friendly-looking robots, the interiors with tasteful midcentury furniture. Within that mileiu, its nattily dressed characters conjure a rosier vision still: The Brightside sales team, led by Jack (Billy Crudup), push fantasies of affordable luxuries on the moon — 200,000 miles away from Earthly drudgeries like debts, failed marriages and dead-end jobs.

So enticing is this dream that Jack himself frequently seems to lose sight of the gap between the pitch and the reality — much of the plot centers on his attempts to hide that the lunar timeshares he’s hawking aren’t all they’re made out to be. For Jack to get caught up in his lofty ambitions, though, is one thing. It’s another for the series to do the same.

Hello Tomorrow trailer: Billy Crudup sells time-shares on the Moon

Have we just given up on hovercars? I feel like we’ve been promised hovercars for as long as I can remember, but where are they? I’m looking outside right now. I see cars. No hover. Just wheels. Billy Crudup Wants to Sell You the Moon in 'Hello Tomorrow!' Trailer
Image
"Congratulations on your new home in the stars!" Apple has released an official trailer for a sci-fi comedy series titled Hello Tomorrow!, arriving for streaming February on their Apple TV+ platform. This has a peculiar concept that involves classic sci-fi concepts like floating cars, rocket packs, and robo helpers even though it's all set in the past. "What if the life you’ve always dreamed of was just one great deal away?" In a retro-futuristic world, charismatic salesman Jack Billings leads a team of fellow sales associates determined to revitalize their customers' lives by hawking timeshares on the moon. Billy Crudup stars as Jack Billings, along with Haneefah Wood, Alison Pill, Nicholas Podany, Matthew Maher, Dewshane Williams, and Hank Azaria. It's pretty obvious from this trailer what's going on, it looks like one big setup to just get rid of people by firing them into space. I wonder if they figure it all out,...

Jesse Does Defiance Featurettes and Season 1 Rewatch Info Take the Edge Off the Wait
We are sadly months away from the June premiere of Season 2 of the Syfy original series Defiance. To tide us over, Syfy has released the first two of what are hopefully many “Jesse Does Defiance” featurettes with Jesse Rath (yes, Meaghan’s brother), who plays Alak Tarr on the show.

The good news about this long wait, besides the featurettes, is that there’s plenty of time to rewatch (or check out for the first time) Season 1, the finale of which was aired all the way back in July of last year. The entire Season 1 is available right now on your On Demand channel and here online.

Here’s a nice two-minute summary of the show, via last summer’s Comic-Con reel, followed by the featurettes:

Featurette: Defiance – Season 2: Jesse Does Defiance – Set Tour

Featurette: Defiance – Season 2: Jesse Does Defiance – Breaking Bread
