Sabrina Carpenter’s New Single ‘Manchild’ – Lyrics & Meaning Explored
Image
If you thought Sabrina Carpenter was slowing down anytime soon, Manchild just proved otherwise and it’s already making waves. Her latest single from her upcoming album is a deliciously petty, glitter-dipped takedown of immaturity, delivered with all the charm and cheek we’ve come to expect. It’s got disco-pop vibes, synthy hooks, and lyrics that feel like they were written during a group chat rant and polished into pure pop gold. Think convertible-down, sunglasses-on, yelling-the-chorus-with-your-besties level energy.

And sure, fans immediately started playing detective, trying to connect the dots to past romances, but Sabrina’s made it clear: this one’s not about just one man, it’s a vibe, an experience, a universal truth. She’s singing for everyone who’s ever rolled their eyes at someone stuck in boyhood while calling themselves a man. Manchild isn’t just a song, it’s a whole summer mood,...

Why Did Sabrina Carpenter Make a New Album So Quickly After ‘Short n’ Sweet’?
Image
On Aug. 29, Sabrina Carpenter will release her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend. It arrives exactly 359 days after her last record, the massive Short n’ Sweet.

That’s an unusual move these days, when stars typically wait longer between releases. Plus, Carpenter is still touring behind Short n’ Sweet, hitting the festival circuit this summer before launching another North American leg in the fall. In her new Rolling Stone cover story, she explained why she’s moving fast.

“If I really wanted to, I could have stretched out Short n’ Sweet much,...

How Sabrina Carpenter Dream-Come-True’d Her Whole Life
Image
Put your arms in and get your chest below the water … just breathe in and out, super slowly.… You’re doing great. Like, damn … we’ve got 20 seconds left. Want to keep going?

I’m in the private suite of a swanky spa in Central London one morning in early March, and one of the world’s biggest pop stars is guiding me through a cold plunge. Across from me, Sabrina Carpenter is shoulders-deep in a cylindrical wooden ice bath of her own, braving four degrees Celsius in a baby-blue lace bikini.

Sabrina Carpenter Announces New Album ‘Man’s Best Friend’
Image
Sabrina Carpenter is preparing to release her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend, her label announced Wednesday morning.

The 26-year-old teased the new album, out this August, on her Instagram, adding, “I can’t wait for it to be yours x.” The news comes on the heels of the pop star’s latest single, “Manchild,” which was released last week and will serve as the lead single of Man’s Best Friend. She co-wrote the song with frequent collaborators Amy Allen and Jack Antonoff.

In a cinematic video for “Manchild,” Carpenter hitchhikes across a desert landscape in everything from pickup trucks to station wagons to a grocery cart sidecar beside a motorcycle, all the while accompanied by the very men she’s singing about. The single — which the 26-year-old teased on X (formerly Twitter) by saying “this one’s about you!!” — was released exactly one year after her 2024 single “Please Please Please,...

Sabrina Carpenter Just Dropped the Song of the Summer With “Manchild”
Image
The song of the summer just might belong to Sabrina Carpenter once again, as the pop star released the music video for “Manchild” on Friday, less than a day after officially releasing the single yesterday.

In the cinematic video, Carpenter is hitchhiking across a desert landscape in everything from pickup trucks to station wagons to a grocery cart sidecar beside a motorcycle, all the while accompanied by himbos washing themselves with gasoline or trying to smoke a firecracker like a cigarette. “Manchild” – which the 26-year-old teased on X (formerly Twitter) by saying “this one’s about you!!” – was released exactly one year after her 2024 single “Please Please Please,” which became her first song to top Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

The song itself is an ear worm as Carpenter sings about stupid, no good men, paired with Carpenter’s signature funny, cheeky lyrics like “why so sexy if so dumb.” Carpenter...

Cassandra Coleman’s Debut Single ‘Coming of Age’ Proves That Folk-Pop Can Be Thrilling
Image
Like it or not, the phrase “folk-pop” can often put listeners to sleep. Cassandra Coleman isn’t having it: On the Tennessee songwriter’s debut single, “Coming of Age,” she proves that acoustic music needn’t be boring.

Helping her achieve that goal is Jack Antonoff, who co-produced the song and lent his group Bleachers to Coleman as her backing band. The result is an immersive, woozy journey into the mind of an artist who refuses to be defined by any one thing.

“‘Coming of Age’ was written in a time of upheaval.

Sabrina Carpenter Calls Out a “Manchild” in New Country-Pop-Infused Single
Image
Reigning pop princess Sabrina Carpenter has dropped a new single, “Manchild,” co-produced by everyone’s favorite (or least favorite) knob-twirler Jack Antonoff. The song arrives less than a year after the release of the singer’s sixth studio album, Short n’ Sweet, and hot on the heels of the deluxe edition of the album, released back in February.

“This one’s about you,” Carpenter wrote about “Manchild” in a social media post earlier week, prompting fans to speculate that the track is directed at former beau Barry Keoghan. Clocking in at three minutes and 33 seconds, “Manchild” is a bouncy, subtle country-inflected pop song filled cheeky one-liners like “Did you just say you’re finished/Didn’t know you started.”

A 7” vinyl pressing of “Manchild” is available for sale from the artist’s official store. As if “Manchild” weren’t pointed enough, the single’s B-side is titled “Inside of Your...

“You said your phone was broken, just forgot to charge it/ Whole outfit you’re wearing, God, I hope it’s ironic,” Carrpenter sings to open the country-twinged pop ballad. From there, we get a bit of her trademark biting humor: “Did you just say you’re finished? Didn’t know we started/ It’s all just so familiar, baby, what do you call it?/ Stupid, or is it, slow?/ Maybe it’s, useless? But there’s a cuter word for it, I know.”

Just as she did with “Espresso,” Sabrina Carpenter is ready to own another summer. The pop superstar has returned with the new single, “Manchild.”

Produced by her collaborator Jack Antonoff, the track opens with a cheeky “Oh boy!” as Carpenter radiates in feel-good disco energy, tearing this guy to shreds. “Manchild, why you always come a-runnin’ to me?/Fuck my life, won’t you let an innocent woman be?” she sings on the chorus. “Never heard of self care/Half your brain just ain’t there/Manchild, why you always...

Taylor Swift’s Original Recordings Were Always Going to Be Better
Image
In the movies, one of the primary rules of time travel is that you don’t do anything that could cause a tear in the space-time continuum. Plot lines that move between the past, present, and future emphasize the fragility of choice. Back in 2021, Taylor Swift started building an alternate reality by dismantling her first six studio albums and repurposing them as part of an extensive re-recording process to regain ownership of her music. The question became, “What if we could do it all over again, even bigger?”

Taylor Swift And Jack Antonoff Dragged Scooter Braun Without Saying A Word
Image
Taylor Swift has finally put an end to one of the longest-running music industry feuds by regaining her music catalog from Scooter Braun. The widely publicized dispute between the two took place when Braun’s Ithaca Holdings acquired Big Machine Records in a $300 million deal. The deal led the Reputation hitmaker to lose the masters of her first six albums.

Following the historic buyback, Taylor Swift took over the internet to express her joy. In a recent clip shared by her close friend Jack Antonoff, we can spot the two singers jamming out to Getaway Car. While the video appears fun and celebratory, on close observation, a subtle jab at Scooter Braun is evident.

Mike Birbiglia Took ‘The Good Life’ From Stage to Screen in 60 Days. Here’s How

In his twenties, the comedian, director, and actor Mike Birbiglia learned to play the guitar because of its theatrical simplicity. “I always admired people who could walk into a bar and just… that’s the show,” he tells me. He liked the idea of not having to tech beforehand. No sound check. No cast. “I am the — this is the show. And I feel like this one’s the closest to that. Margaret Qualley and Aubrey Plaza Get Raunchy in Ethan Coen’s Detective Movie ‘Honey Don’t!,’ Earning Rowdy 6-Minute Cannes Ovation
Image
Ethan Coen’s raunchy, gory detective movie “Honey Don’t!,” starring Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Chris Evans, premiered to a rowdy Cannes crowd at midnight on Friday. The film earned a six-minute standing ovation, with writer Tricia Cooke declaring: “More queer cinema all the time!”

“That’s a fun way to end the festival,” Coen said as he took the microphone and quieted the clapping crowd. “Oh, and short, for a movie that started after midnight. Very humane.”

Indeed, the 90-minute “Honey Don’t” didn’t begin unspooling until nearly 12:30 a.m., after a half-hour delay entering the Palais. But the Cannes crowd didn’t seem to mind the wait, cheering loudly for Coen, Qualley, Plaza and the rest of the team when they finally entered the theater, then clapping vigorously for every producer and distributor card before the movie began.

One audience member even yelled, “I love you Aubrey!

Watch Maren Morris Showcase ‘Too Good’ on ‘Fallon’

Morris took the late-night show stage with an elaborate set that evoked a mountainside home, singing the tune from behind a faux booze-covered bar alongside her band. The song sees the country musician crooning about a relationship conundrum: “Too good to leave, too bored to stay/ That’s how the people that love me behave/ It’s too bad it’s taken me this long...

Juliet & Romeo Review: When Swordplay and Song Collide
JULIET & ROMEO, The Franchise Begins
Juliet & Romeo repositions Verona’s ancient feud within a neon‑tinged musical tapestry. Director Timothy Scott Bogart and composer Evan Kidd Bogart stitch Shakespeare’s narrative to a modern pop sensibility (think synth‑laced power ballads that nod to Swiftian craftsmanship). Clara Rugaard’s Juliet and Jamie Ward’s Romeo carry the film’s emotional core, though their duet numbers rarely outshine the production’s more exuberant ensemble set pieces.

Dante Ferretti’s sumptuous costumes—electric crimsons for Capulets, midnight blues for Montagues—pair with Byron Werner’s lensing to conjure an almost hallucinatory version of 14th‑century Italy. Sword fights erupt into choreographed dance‑offs, each cut suggesting a “sword ballet” that reframes violence as stylized pageantry. Filming in real Italian piazzas lends tangible gravity, even when lyrics soar into playful banter.

That pivot from tragedy to hopeful extravaganza, capped by a “Book Two” tease, invites reflection on why...

Lana Del Rey Releases “Bluebird,” Second Single From Newly Untitled Album
Image
Lana Del Rey’s new song, “Bluebird,” is out.

The American singer-songwriter dropped her latest track Friday, the second single off her upcoming 10th studio album. Del Rey leans into the country sound she promised fans of her latest record on the track while maintaining her quintessential pop-alternative sound.

“Bluebird’s” release comes on the heels of Del Rey’s latest single release, “Henry, Come On,” which dropped one week prior. On Friday, she celebrated the latter track and announced the former, while also revealing her forthcoming album would not be arriving on May 21 and its name had changed.

“I mean, you know it’s not going to come on time, right?” the Grammy nominee said in a since-deleted Instagram post. “Like, should I even tell you that the name changed again?”

Del Rey announced her 10th album, which then was titled The Right Person Will Stay, in a November...

Gabby Beans discusses the ‘oppressive and violent’ world of ‘Romeo + Juliet’ and starring opposite the ‘absolutely brilliant’ Kit Connor
Image
“Romeo and Juliet has featured in my life at these pivotal moments in a really funny way,” Gabby Beans smiles as she considers all the times she has crossed paths with one of Shakespeare's most famous tragedies.

The actress first read the play as a freshman in high school in Germany and credits her English teacher, Emily Richardson, for elucidating “the imagery and all the levels of resonance that Shakespeare’s writing can hold and evokes.” Months later, her family took a trip to Italy and she saw the Juliet sculpture in Verona. Years later, she played the role of Lady Capulet while studying at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Most recently, she wrapped a smash production of Romeo + Juliet on Broadway, which played a limited run at the Circle in the Square Theatre. Beans recently joined Gold Derby to discuss the revival.

Lana Del Rey Releases “Henry, Come On,” First Single From Upcoming Album ‘The Right Person Will Stay’
Image
Lana Del Rey is back. The American singer-songwriter dropped her latest song, “Henry, Come On,” on Friday, the first single off her upcoming 10th studio album, The Right Person Will Stay.

Del Rey shared a brief teaser of the track on Instagram in January 2024 while tagging country music songwriter and producer Luke Laird. “I mean Henry, come on / Do you think I’d really choose it?” she sings over a stringy track before offering a warning. “Last call, hey, y’all / Hang his hat up on the wall / Tell him that his cowgirl is gone / Come on and giddyup.”

Del Rey announced her 10th album, The Right Person Will Stay, in a November Instagram post where she thanked Laird, Jack Antonoff, Zachary Dawes and Drew Erickson for their “beautiful work” on the LP that features 13 tracks.

The news came after the “Ride” singer said earlier in 2024 that her landmark 10th...

Kit Connor: ‘Warfare’ Long Takes ‘Benefited Me as an Actor’ for ‘Romeo + Juliet’ on Broadway
Image
You might think going from the intense, real-time Iraq War drama “Warfare” to playing Romeo in “Romeo + Juliet” on Broadway might be a whiplash-inducing change of pace. And Kit Connor acknowledges right away that “they were two very, very, very different projects.”

The 21-year-old actor did find a point of comparison, however. At a Q&a for “Warfare” conducted by IndieWire, the English thespian noted how much the Ray Mendoza and Alex Garland-directed movie relies on long takes to create its you-are-there “real time” sensibility. That, plus the fact intense rehearsals for those takes were required beforehand, was a similar energy to performing live on stage — where there is no room for error.

“They were two very, very, very different projects,” Connor said. “But in many ways, I found that ‘Warfare’ was one of the projects that has stretched me the most as an actor. And I do...

Maren Morris Finds Solace in Her Own Company in ‘Carry Me Through’ Music Video
Image
Maren Morris is back, and she’s got a lot to say. On Thursday, March 27, the Grammy-winning singer shared her new single, “Carry Me Through.” The song is the lead single from her upcoming fourth album, Dreamsicle.

On “Carry Me Through,” Morris can’t help but look forward to the days ahead. She bluntly opens the piano-driven ballad, singing “feels like the worst year is always the one you're in.” But throughout the painfully relatable track, she learns that at the end of the day, she can only rely on herself for her own happiness. “I know tomorrow's gon' come / Preaching to a choir of one It's taking me a while, I'll get there soon / Plenty of hands held out / But I'm still the one who has to choose / To carry me through,” she sings on the song’s chorus.

While the song may sonically be more downtempo than some of her biggest singles,...

10 Actors You Didn't Know Are Nepo Babies
Image
These days, it seems like all anyone can talk about in Hollywood are "nepo babies." Originating in the early 2020s, "nepo baby" describes individuals whose success can be attributed to a parent or relative's previous success in the same industry due to nepotism. Plenty of celebrities have achieved accolades without fans knowing about their famously talented families. Some of the most iconic A-listers in film and TV owe their successes to extreme privilege, such as people like Ben Stiller, or Zoë Kravitz.

Most of the time, nepo babies are forced to wear their privilege on their sleeves just by virtue of their names, as Allison Williams (daughter of former NBC anchor Brian Williams) told Wired, "It doesn't feel like a loss to admit it ... If you trust your own skill, I think it becomes very simple to acknowledge." Others, like Jamie Lee Curtis, have spoken out against the ridicule towards nepotism babies in pop culture.

How Mikey Madison beat Demi Moore for the Best Actress Oscar
Image
Anora scored five Oscars on Sunday, but one of its wins took many, including Jack Antonoff, by surprise. Demi Moore was the odds-on favorite to win Best Actress, but The Substance star fell to Anora star Mikey Madison. But Madison's victory is not very surprising when you get down to it. Here's how she pulled off the win.

1. The stronger movie prevails over narrative

Anora won five Oscars from six nominations, with four wins for Sean Baker: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. The Palme d'Or champ was the Oscar frontrunner for most of the season, with just a short blip after its Golden Globe shutout before it claimed the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America Awards to reassert itself. The Substance had five nominations, a great haul for a body-horror film, and won one, Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It...

Zero Bond at Wynn Las Vegas Reveals Membership Tiers, Opens Applications (Exclusive)
Image
A new club is set to open in Las Vegas, which will be much different from the mega-nightclubs that define the city’s entertainment landscape. There are no DJs, no gravity-defying bottle fairies gliding through the room delivering illuminated Louis Xiii decanters to tables, and no confetti or smoke cannons.

Lifting the rope on the Strip’s next big thing, Zero Bond, the New York City private members-only social club known for attracting an A-list-plus-plus crowd with its ubiquitous buzzy vibe will debut in late 2025 at Wynn Las Vegas. (Taylor Swift, Elon Musk, Georgina Bloomberg, Jack Antonoff, Blake Lively, Shawn Mendes, Kygo, J Balvin, Drake, Gigi Hadid, Bradley Cooper, Bill Clinton, Pete Davidson, Kim Kardashian, Kaia Gerber, Austin Butler, Leonardo DiCaprio, Gisele, J.Lo and Jared Leto have all been spotted at Zero Bond New York.)

This is the first time an internationally known, membership-driven club has ventured to the desert.

Ari Aster’s ‘Eddington,’ Starring Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone, Heads to EFM as A24 Eyes Cannes Debut and Summer Release (Exclusive)
Image
A24 is bringing “Eddington,” Ari Aster’s hotly-anticipated contemporary Western thriller starring Joaquin Phoenix, Pedro Pascal, Emma Stone and Austin Butler, to the European Film Market in Berlin this month, Variety has learned.

Also starring Deirdre O’Connell, Micheal Ward and Clifton Collins Jr., the film is now in post-production and is believed to revolve around a couple stranded in a small New Mexico town. Though they are initially welcomed, the town takes a sinister turn by nightfall. Phoenix portrays the town’s sheriff with ambitious dreams.

Variety also understands that “Eddington” could be in contention for Cannes debut — which would make it Aster’s first film as director to bow at the festival — with A24 targeting a summer release.

Production on “Eddington” kicked off in March 2024, with Aster writing, directing and producing alongside Lars Knudsen under their Square Peg banner. Two-time Academy Award nominee Darius Khondji is the director of photography.

Taylor Swift’s Grammys Champagne Shares Musical Connection With Fellow A-List Artist
Image
Taylor Swift came up empty-handed at the 2025 Grammy Awards Sunday, but the “Album of the Year” nominee didn’t let that stop her from having a good time at the celebratory event.

The artist who famously sang about “Champagne Problems” certainly didn’t have any on Grammy night, as Swift was seen swiping a bottle of bubbly from pals Jack Antonoff and Margaret Qualley, and dancing with a glass in hand throughout the night to Charli Xcx, Sabrina Carpenter and more of her faves. At one point, Swift raised a...

Sabrina Carpenter Scores Two Wins During Charismatic Grammy Debut
Image
Sabrina Carpenter’s Grammy debut was (not very) short but (definitely) sweet.

The “Taste” singer earned two Grammy Awards — best pop solo performance award for “Espresso” and best pop vocal album for Short n’ Sweet. She went into the night’s telecast with best pop solo performance being the first award given out earlier in the day at the Grammys Premiere ceremony. Overall, she had earned six nominations, including the two categories she won, along with best new artist, album of the year, record of the year and song of the year.

Carpenter’s first appearance of the night was in a performance of her two smash hits “Espresso” and “Please Please Please.” Trying to find her spotlight in a quirky bit to kick off the stage performance, the singer channeled old Hollywood for a jazzy version of “Espresso.” Carpenter tore off her black sequined suit look to reveal a baby blue bejeweled bodysuit,...

2025 Grammy winners: Beyoncé and Kendrick Lamar take top honors, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish shut out
Image
In a ceremony that alternated between subdued and sublime, reverent and rocking, the 2025 Grammys attempted to offer thoughtful tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires while also honoring the best in music. Fittingly, the biggest ovations came at the end of Sunday’s ceremony, as the gathered music royalty rose to applaud Los Angeles County firefighters, who took the stage to present the final award, and then again to celebrate Beyoncé, who claimed the night’s ultimate prize: Album of the Year.

That win, for her country-crossover sensation, Cowboy Carter, was her first triumph in the Album of the Year category after four prior losses. Beyoncé, who entered the evening as the most-nominated performer with 11 bids, also took home awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for the track “II Most Wanted.” Queen Bey now has 35 career Grammys, extending her record...
