Art the Clown has become one of the most unexpected and shocking horror icons of modern cinema in the Terrifierfranchise. However, he was around long before he became the record-breaking masochistic killer audiences have come to love in his three movies, but a gut-wrenching moment involving actress Catherine Corcoran and a hacksaw turned him into one of the most unpredictable villains to have graced screens in years. Now, almost a decade after being murdered in the most brutal and graphic way possible, the actress has reflected on her part in making the unrated killer a worldwide phenomenon.

Corcoran is hosting the first episode of Shout! TV’s Double Take on March 21, which features two movies in honor of Women’s History Month, and ahead of that she spoke to ComingSoon about working on Damien Leonie’s Terrifer and how it became something so much more than it was ever meant to be.

Presented by Broke Horror Fan (that’s me!), Terrifier is now available on VHS from Witter Entertainment.

Written and directed by Damien Leone, the 2016 slasher stars David Howard Thornton, Jenna Kanell, Catherine Corcoran, and Samantha Scaffidi.

It returns to VHS with two new variants: a standard slipcase with new art by Neil Fraser for $30, and a book box edition featuring a gatefold cover and a glow-in-the-dark red tape, limited to 250, for $50.

A very small quantity of leftover variants from earlier pressings are also available while supplies last.

Expected to ship in June, each tape includes an exclusive introduction by Thornton plus an Art the Clown Makeup Time Lapse featurette after the film.

For optimal VHS viewing, the film has been cropped from its original aspect ratio to 4:3 full frame. It is officially licensed from Dread and Epic Pictures and approved by Leone.

As David Howard Thornton continues to gain notoriety for his role as Art the Clown in the popular Terrifier movies, his fans and slasher movie fanatics should book a ticket for Screamboat, a new killer cruise-ride horror movie opening in the U.S. in April 2025. Thornton portrays a murderous version of Mickey Mouse in the subversive slasher movie, building on a new disturbing Disney horror trend after last year's The Mouse Trap.

With obvious nods to Jason Takes Manhattan, a classic slasher on a cruise ship stopping in New York, Screamboat turns a touristy ferry ride into a fiendish and ferocious course through hyperviolent hell. Yet, with Thornton leading the way, Screamboat is the perfect alternative and/or placeholder to keep fans busy until Art the Clown returns for a fourth Terrifier film. All aboard!

Dwayne Johnson is not a star that anyone would miss walking down the street, and that is not just because of his wide-as-a-house, tall-as-a-mountain frame. The man, the myth, the legend that is “The Rock” has not only been a fixture of the wrestling ring for decades, but has also been a huge presence on cinema screens for over 25 years. But when asked if he gets tired of the fame…it seems The Rock is still very invested in letting everyone smell what is simmering in his pot.

Johnson is as busy as he has ever been, with a mix of movies and WWE appearances planned for this year, the larger-than-life star is not about to take a back seat. This means that there is little chance of him ever being able to lead a quiet life away from the public eye, but according to the man himself, that is perfectly fine.

Red One brings out several big names to spread some Christmas cheer to audiences during the holiday season with a relatively unique premise. Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Evans is one of those names, with co-star Dwayne Johnson praising the sense of humor he brought to the film.

Speaking with People during Red One's recent world premiere in Berlin, Johnson hailed Evans for his comedy chops in the action-packed film, suggesting they played off each other well while on set. According to the wrestler-turned-actor, Evans made it difficult for him to keep a straight face throughout production. "'Cause I'm a pro," he said initially before admitting, "No, so many times I laughed. I am notorious for ruining takes. I laugh; it's just what happens." Johnson added, "I thought earlier that maybe me and Chris might have some good chemistry. So did he. [And] we did."

As announced by Amazon, Red One will officially become available for streaming on Prime Video on Dec. 12. The announcement comes as the movie continues its run in theaters ahead of the Christmas holiday. Art the Clown. He’s a homicidal maniac. He’s a supernatural being. He’s disgusting. He’s amusing. He’s the latest cinematic madman to be added to the ranks of genre icons. And he’s been around longer than you might realize. He’s been lurking around for a couple of decades. His breakthrough moment came with the 2016 movie Terrifier – and we’re going to examine that film… and the bad clown at the heart of it all… with this episode of What Happened to This Horror Movie?

Writer/director Damien Leone first brought Art the Clown into the world with a short film called The 9th Circle, which was shot in 2006.The story centers on a young woman who’s creeped out by a strange clown in a train station. The clown ends up attacking her, delivering her to a coven of witches that are in direct contact with Satan himself.

Red One made its debut quite early this Christmas season, premiering in theaters worldwide on November 15, 2024. However, the early release is justified, given that the film was initially set to release in December 2023 and was delayed due to the Saf-aftra strikes. Before he played a beefed-up Santa in the new Christmas movie Red One, J.K. Simmons has revealed that he played jolly old Saint Nick many years ago in a shopping mall. The beloved actor has played many memorable roles, most notably that of Spider-Mans J. Jonah Jameson in several Marvel movies, but his latest appearance alongside Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans is not the first time he has experienced the role of Santa Claus.

While many fans will be aware that he previously voiced the one-night-a-year worker (nice job if you can get it) in the animated movie Klaus, the actor revealed in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly that he has a much older affinity with Father Christmas from his day as a mall Santa, although he was possibly not the best fit for the wholesome role. Catherine Corcoran’s character Dawn was at the center of one of the most famous moments in the slasher movie Terrifier (a scene she reflected on a while back) – but Terrifier wasn’t her first credit in a genre movie, and she has gone on to work on several more genre movies since the release of that killer clown movie, including Faceless After Dark, which reunited her with Terrifier co-star Jenna Kanell. Corcoran is also co-host of the nightmare-themed podcast Scream Dreams. Now, Deadline reports that Corcoran has signed on to star in the thriller Jackalope alongside Alex Mandel (Killer Holiday), who happens to be the son of Howie Mandel, and Bryce Hirschberg of the Netflix dating show Too Hot to Handle.

Hirschberg, who made his feature writing and directorial debut with the 2017 drama Counterfeiters, will also be directing Jackalope from a screenplay he has written with producer and director of photography David Klassen.

First appearing in 2016 and the latest installment hitting theaters this year, the Terrifier franchise has been a success among horror fans with its scenes of unrelenting violence and chief antagonist, Art the Clown. The series is a saving grace for many fans who have been craving the type of escapism and macabre awe that seems to have been missing from the slasher genre. Up until recently, many fans voiced their discontent regarding many offerings that are tame in comparison and lack the operatic levels of violence that the Terrifier franchise is so unapologetic in depicting.

On the one hand, the series deserves praise for its use of practical effects and carnage that have reportedly traumatized some members of the viewing audience. The Terrifier franchise has found a fan base who crave violence and enjoy the feeling of being shocked. Beyond this surface level of visceral imagery and attempted transgression, there exists little else.

Thanks to a lackluster response to “Joker: Folie a Deux,” the unrated horror film “Terrifier 3” opened in the no. 1 position in theaters this weekend — allowing a different clown to take down the more famous one. The movie, which was released in 2,514 theaters, earned $8.1 million on opening day.

Fans of the film have a renewed interest in its villain Art the Clown, who was first featured in the 2013 movie “All Hallows’ Eve.”

What is “Terrifier”?

“Terrifier” is a 2016 horror film written and directed by Damien Leone. The movie is about two sisters — played by Jenna Kanell and Samantha Scaffidi — who become the target of a serial killer known as Art the Clown.

Along with his early appearance in “All Hallows’ Eve,” the original “Terrifier” film has now spawned the sequels “Terrifier 2” and “Terrifier 3.”

Director Damien Leone said he's amused at comments that his Terrifier films are misogynistic. He told IndieWire that Terrifier instead champions women by leaning heavily on the Final Girl trope. "I don't think it's a funny matter, but it's so not me that I do find it kind of hilarious," he asserted. "It's also a trope that I grew up loving. The Final Girl is such a powerful element to these movies, and I don't think it's as impactful if it's a Final Man. Men are just more reprehensible in general, and you're already used to seeing them die [in other genres]."

The Black Sunday Film Festival has an exciting line-up for its much anticipated one-day mini-fest, set to take place at the Odeon Chelmsford this Saturday, 20th July. The festival’s feature film presentations boast a diverse selection of premieres, headlined by the UK premiere of Sigil, directed by Jacob Perrett. This indie darling, starring Karlee Mihailov and Isabella Rodriguez, has been making waves on the festival circuit and is eagerly awaited by horror lovers.

Adding to the excitement is the Essex premiere of Haunted Ulster Live, a festival hit from writer/director Dominic O’Neill. Faceless After Dark opens with a warning about the film’s use of strobing lights, and immediately we see Bowie sitting staring at the camera as neon purple lights flash on her face as the image grows progressively smaller and unintelligible voices babble louder and louder. That and several long, eye-straining montages scattered through the film make the warning more than justified

Next we see her armed with a machete making her way through a human butcher shop, only to be confronted by the killer clown responsible for the carnage. And then mid-fight, she stops and complains about having to deliver the line, “Haven’t you heard, the circus left town bitch!”

From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.

After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.
