20th Century Studios wants to welcome audiences back to the enchanted Night at the Museum franchise with a reimagining from Die Hart and Stuber writer Tripper Clancy. 21 Laps tapped Clancy for the gig, keeping plot details under wraps. Shawn Levy and Dan Levine will produce via 21 Laps, with Emily Morris overseeing the project. While plot elements are scarce, Deadline says the Night at the Museum reimagining will feature a new story and all-new characters.

The first is a feature documentary about Charlie Murphy, the brother of Eddie Murphy. Darkness: The Charlie Murphy Story will tell the story of the comedian, who died in 2017 from leukemia at the age of 57.

We can reveal the UK broadcaster is joined by Ireland’s Virgin Media Television and Australia’s Sbs in acquiring the series from distributor Eccho Rights.

We’ve got word of the news less than a week ahead of MIPCOM Cannes, where Eccho Rights will be shopping Safe Harbor, the buzzy crime drama from Ozark co-creator Mark Williams. Barth will remain as an exec producer on the show.

Barth has been with Eccho Rights since 2021, having joined after exiting Nent Studios UK (aka Drg), where he was SVP for Emea. Further back, he worked at New Media Vision, acting as an executive producer on international formats adaptations of shows such as NBC procedural Mysteries of Laura.

Eccho confirmed his departure to Deadline this week.

TV shows that consistently deliver heart-pumping action have become a dominant force in the modern entertainment industry. A consequence of this massive popularity is that production companies and streaming services are now more likely to invest massive budgets into these shows to enhance their production quality. Expansive set designs, CGI, impressive stunt work, and A-list casting all contribute to these massive budgets (via Media C-Suite).

While a big budget is no guarantee of a good TV show, it is hard to deny that a lot of these shows are incredible. From exploring the worlds of Westeros and Middle-earth, to a galaxy far, far, away, these shows have left an indelible mark on the TV industry and have set the bar for other action TV shows to aspire to. These shows have revolutionized contemporary television, and often boast budgets per episode that rival even the biggest blockbuster movies.

Wes Cravens underrated supernatural comedy Vampire in Brooklyn has received a brand-new streaming update. The 1996 cult classic was led by Eddie Murphy as a powerful vampire named Maximillian, who tries to seduce an NYPD detective in hopes of saving himself.

Starting on Tuesday, Oct. 1, Vampire in Brooklyn will officially be available to stream for free on Pluto TV. Besides Murphy, the film also starred Oscar winner Angela Bassett as Detective Rita Veder, whos unaware that shes actually a half-human, half-vampire hybrid. While working on her latest murder mystery case involving a corpse-filled ship, Rita meets Maximillian, who wants to transform her into a full vampire before the next full moon. Just like in his other movies such as The Nutty Professor and Norbit, Murphy also appeared as two different characters in the movie, including Pauly, an alcoholic preacher, and Guido, an Italian-American mobster.

Original characters like Kwan and Makee had storylines that were never fully realized, leaving the show's intentions ambiguous at best. Halo season 3 was supposed to adapt Halo: Combat Evolved's story, making the series' cancelation more frustrating.

Now that Paramount+ has officially axed its Halo adaptation, there are several storylines viewers will never see come to fruition in live-action. While Paramount was evasive on why Halo was canceled after two seasons, it's safe to assume that the series' ballooning costs reportedly, it cost $200 million to make and mixed reviews were at the root of the company's decision. Although the show's sophomore outing was much more well-received than its abysmal first season, swapping out showrunners and leaning harder on the source material just couldn't salvage the story of Pablo Schreiber's Master Chief.

Halo season 2 improved by strengthening its ties to the source material, but it was too little, too late. Halo season 3 would have finally delved into Halo: Combat Evolved's story and resolved cliffhangers from season 2, making the show's cancelation more frustrating. Paramount+ likely canceled Halo due to staggering costs and an inability to recoup fans' goodwill.

I'll be the first to admit it: Paramount+'s Halo TV show wasn't very good, but I'm still frustrated by its cancelation. In its first season, Halo was universally panned by critics and audiences alike. It wasn't a faithful Halo adaptation, but it was also just mid-level sci-fi fare at best. I was surprised by just how much Halo season 2 tried to correct course after its first outing's missteps. Obviously, there were certain elements the Covenant's Blessed One concept, for starters that the series couldn't completely retcon or erase, but it certainly did damage control.

HBO has released its second teaser for its upcoming original drama series “Dune: Prophecy,” starring Emily Watson and Olivia Williams.

Part of the “Dune“-iverse and based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson’s “Sisterhood of Dune,” “Dune: Prophecy” is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides and follows Harkonnen sisters Valya (Watson) and Tula (Williams) “as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.”

The news comes a few months after Season 2 of the live-action video game adaptation premiered on the streamer in February. Amblin Television, Xbox and 343 Industries are currently shopping Halo in hopes of finding it a new home, Deadline understands.

Germany’s Beta Film is bringing the love story between a Dutch prince and a beautiful Argentinian financier to the Croisette. The world premiere of “Máxima” screens out-of-competition at Canneseries on April 9 after being teased at the London TV Screenings in late February.
