There’s a particularly delightful gag in Season 1 of Apple TV+’s “The Studio,” in which Ike Barinholtz’s character Sal Saperstein becomes the go-to guy to thank at the Golden Globes. And yes, Dave Franco intends to thank him in real life at the Emmys, should he win the award.
Franco plays himself in the series, albeit a very intoxicated version of himself. Still, the performance earned him a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor, making him one of the five nominees “The Studio” has in the category (out of six nominees total).
Sitting down with MTV UK, alongside his wife Alison Brie for their new horror film “Together,” Franco promised that, so long as the joke isn’t overplayed by the time he reaches the stage, he’d be sure to keep it going.

Would you rather let a snake loose in the walls of Taylor Swift’s home, or destroy her bathroom to prevent exactly that? That’s not just a fun hypothetical, that’s the choice Zoë Kravitz actually had to make recently — and she went for the latter.
Stopping by “Late Night” on Tuesday evening in support of her new film “Caught Stealing,” which hits theaters on Aug. 29, the actress revealed that she evacuated to Swift’s house when the Los Angeles wildfires hit. Kravitz also brought her mom Lisa Bonet with her, and Bonet just so happens to have a pet snake.
According to Kravitz, she had to travel for work, so Bonet planned to stay a bit longer. As the actress packed her things, she offered a heads up to her mom.

Zoë Kravitz almost got a bad reputation as Taylor Swift’s house guest. During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the actress described staying with her mom, Lisa Bonet, in Swift’s home after evacuating during the Los Angeles wildfires in January.
“She was kind enough to let me stay at her house,” Kravitz said. “My mom lives in Topanga Canyon, so I said, ‘No, that’s a dangerous place to be. Come [here].’ And my mom has a pet snake, and so she has her evacuation stuff; she came over with the snake.

It doesn’t get much more Hollywood than this: Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s star-packed Hollywood satire The Studio for Apple TV+ is basking in the golden glow of awards season thanks to the Television Academy, which just handed over 23 nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards, tying the record for most comedy nominations in a single season and emerging as the show to beat over favorites like Hacks and The Bear.
“I don’t think anything good is ever going to happen, so it’s nice when it does,” quips Rogen by telephone hours after nominations were revealed last month. It’s a statement that would effortlessly roll out of the mouth of the man he plays on the show, frequently beleaguered studio boss Matt Remick who is trying to maintain his perch and build a legacy in an IP-dominated industry. Kool-Aid man aside, the show featured a who’s who of Hollywood stars,...

It's no secret that since its release on HBO last fall, The Penguin has been one of the most celebrated DC Studios properties in recent memory. The limited series, which has everyone clamoring for a second season, landed a staggering 24 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series and nods for the performances of Colin Ferrell, Cristin Milioti, and Deirdre O'Connell. As we await the show's Emmy fate, one star is musing on a potential future team-up.
While appearing on The Today Show, Cristin Milioti spoke about the excitement surrounding her first Emmy nomination for The Penguin and gave some insight into how she prepared for her role as Sofia. She loved donning a wig and worked hard on perfecting Sofia's fluctuating accent, but it's the suggestion of a potential season 2 or, perhaps more interestingly, a spinoff project focused on Sofia and Zoë Kravitz as Catwoman that will have fans hanging on every word.

Christian Bale Fell Asleep Filming Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins (Photo Credit – Netflix)
Filming an iconic franchise can bring down the mightiest of actors. The gruelling hours can take a toll even on the most consummate professionals. Christian Bale can attest to this. The Prestige actor once had to be shaken awake by his baffled co-star Michael Caine after he nodded off mid-scene.
In 2005, Christopher Nolan was recruited to reboot the Batman franchise after the disastrous performance of 1997’s “Batman & Robin.” Critics and audiences slammed the film starring George Clooney and Chris Donnell. It also tanked at the box office, grossing a subdued $238 million against a budget of $125 million.
Christopher Nolan then swooped in to save the franchise from the brink of extinction. Nolan added his own darker spin to the Batman origin story, which was missing from its predecessors. However, it was a challenging task.

Could The Batman II be adding the second half of the Dynamic Duo? The sequel could introduce a key Batman character if one report turns out to be true.
The Batman was a monster hit in 2022 as Matt Reeves brought a fresh take to the Caped Crusader. Robert Pattinson played Bruce Wayne and his masked alter ego in a tale focusing on a flawed and troubled Dark Knight protecting Gotham from threats like The Riddler (Paul Dano). It all culminated in a massive flooding of Gotham City.
The story was expanded on in the HBO drama The Penguin with Colin Farrell reprising his film role as the crime boss. That ended with a hint of Batman returning. Work on the sequel has been delayed by various factors, such as the 2023 Hollywood strikes, with the current release date set for October 1, 2027.

Bryan Cranston won four Emmys for playing a power-hungry drug kingpin on AMC's landmark drama series Breaking Bad. But when he's not masquerading as the ruthless "one who knocks," the actor also enjoys showing off his comedic side.
Two decades ago, he received a trio of Emmy nominations for his role as Hal, the carefree husband and father on Malcolm in the Middle. He also earned laughs playing dentist Tim Whatley on Seinfeld, therapist Dr. Templeton on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and a heightened version of himself on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Now, he's yucking it up as The Studio's Griffin Mill, the outlandish CEO of Continental Studios, who's never met a psychedelic mushroom he didn't like. Cranston is nominated in Best Comedy Guest Actor alongside last year's winner, Jon Bernthal as Michael Berzatto for The Bear, plus four people from The Studio who are playing comedic versions of themselves: Dave Franco,...

There were few funnier things this year than watching the trio of Bryan Cranston, Zoë Kravitz and Dave Franco realize they mistakenly ingested too many mushrooms on The Studio.
That season one finale of the Apple TV+ Hollywood satire series saw Seth Rogen’s Hollywood studio head, Matt Remick, screw up the dosage of mushrooms that he offered both his coworkers and talent ahead of a mega presentation at San Diego Comic Con.
Turns out, something similar to Rogen and his co-creator Evan Goldberg in real life.

Here’s the synopsis for Caught Stealing: Hank Thompson (Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is making an underdog run at the pennant. Matt Smithis taking on his hardest role yet in Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing, as he tries to pull off a mohawk and make it look cool. And we have an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the new movie starring Austin Butler, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, and Bad Bunny. Smith plays Russ, the neighbor to Hank Thompson (Butler), who asks him to take care of his cat. But it doesn't go well, and instead of simply doing a favor for his neighbor, Hank finds himself dealing with a "motley crew of threatening gangsters." All because of Russ.
In our exclusive sneak peek, we get to see a bit more of Russ' look in the show, including Smith talking about his first impression with the screenplay and working with Aronofsky. Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II is moving forward with filming scheduled to start in Spring 2026.
We have been feverishly waiting for more news on The Batman Part II here at Film Stories headquarters. Matt Reeves’ sequel to his 2022 dark superhero movie has experienced several delays and in April we reported that filming could finally get underway in 2026.
Those news have now been confirmed and we’re one step closer to seeing Robert Pattinson’s man of bats on the big screen again.
As Deadline reports, Warner Bros. sent a letter to the company’s shareholders confirming the film’s production date. Release date is still set for 1st October and unless The Batman Part II experiences any more delays, should be able to make it.

Throw up the Bat-signal, people! It’s been a long wait for The Batman Part II – Matt Reeves unleashed the first film in his bat-reboot back in 2022, and since then, there’s been slow progress on a follow-up (albeit with The Penguin arriving on the small screen in-between). But recently, there’s been fresh news from Gotham, with Reeves delivering his sequel script to DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. It seems that screenplay has gone down well with the brass, because Warner Bros looks to be gearing up to production on Part II in the not-too-distant future.
As reported by Variety, a recent Warner Bros Discovery letter to shareholders confirmed that production on Reeves’ sequel is due to begin in spring 2026; the film is currently pencilled in for an October 2027 release date. Little else is known about the project, other than that Robert Pattinson will return as Batman.

Thanks to his leading role in Prime Video’s hit action series, Reacher, Alan Ritchson has now become a bona fide action superstar. Possessing the sort of size to rival that of even the “Austrian Oak” himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and the charisma to boot, Ritchson putting his name on another action project outside the adventures of Jack Reacher is reason enough to be excited. And, thanks to a near-unrecognizable first look at the actor in Motor City, we could very well have an action thriller classic on our hands.
Alan Ritchson takes the lead in the ‘70s-inspired revenge thriller Motor City, which will reportedly only have five lines of dialogue. Instead, the thriller will let the action do the talking. In the first look image, which you can check out below, Ritchson combines his familiarly huge frame with long hair and a glorious beard as he finds himself behind bars...

Matt Smith is headed to a galaxy far, far away.

This isn’t Smith’s first brush with the “Star Wars” franchise. The “Doctor Who” alum was previously cast in “The Rise of Skywalker,” but ultimately didn’t appear in the film. “We were close to being in it, but it never quite happened. I think the thing they were thinking of before. Eventually, the part became obsolete and they didn’t need it. So, I never got to be in ‘Star Wars,'” he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast in 2021. Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff’s earliest dates included long walks around New York City in places like Washington Square Park and near Electric Lady Studios, where they first met during a rooftop party. But while their romance was rooted in the city, the traditional approach they took to dating highlighted the actress’ North Carolina upbringing.

The pilot episode of “The Studio” has perhaps its greatest cameo by a real-life Hollywood personality — none other than the auteur filmmaker himself, Martin Scorsese. In the extended guest appearance, the director is brought on to be the director for a “Kool-Aid” movie… although his version (a supposed passion project for the man behind “Raging Bull”) will actually be the story of Jim Jones’ notorious Jonestown massacre. He ends up getting fired, which offends Scorsese and every other major star in town, and at the end of the episode Seth Rogen and Ike Barinholtz’s studio mogul characters get kicked out of an exclusive Charlize Theron-hosted party.
Throwing Scorsese into a role that requires him to poke fun at his own persona, though, was a gamble — at least emotionally — for Rogen, who also co-wrote and co-directed the episode.

With a big variety of series, dozens of first-time nominees and a few shows breaking back into the race, the 77th annual Emmy Awards are set to make history — possibly in more ways than one. Below, Variety breaks down the contenders in some of the main categories.
Drama series
Arguably, the most stacked race of all this year is the drama category. Although “Severance,” “The Last of Us,” “Slow Horses” and “Andor” have landed nominations in the category before, none of this year’s noms have taken home the trophy in the past. “Severance” is an early front-runner but it’s not without its huge competitors in the debuts this year. “Paradise” on Hulu racked up four nominations for its freshman year on Hulu, and “The Diplomat” caused quite a splash with its second season on Netflix, but HBO Max’s “The Pitt” (with 13 noms) remains the biggest competitor against the Apple TV+ leader.

As final-round Emmy voting approaches, Apple TV+’s The Studio has emerged as a serious contender, after tying the all-time nomination record for a comedy series with 23 nominations and becoming the most-nominated freshman comedy in Emmy history.
The workplace satire’s success could mark several historic milestones, particularly for Dominican-American producer Frida Perez, who stands on the cusp of making Emmy history.
If “The Studio” wins outstanding comedy series, Perez would become the first Latina to take home a trophy in that category and only the second Latino ever to win as a producer in any top series race in Emmy history. Currently, only Cuban American Celia D. Costas holds that honor for HBO’s “Angels in America” in 2004.
Perez, 29, has already made history as the first Latina nominated for outstanding writing in a comedy series for the pilot episode “The Promotion,” which she shares with Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg,...

Seth Rogen is the odds-on favorite to win so many Emmys for The Studio, he'll need to bring a mantelpiece as his plus-one.
According to Gold Derby's predictions for the 2025 Emmys, Rogen is out front to win Best Comedy Series (for which he's a producer), Best Comedy Actor, and Best Comedy Directing (for "The Oner"). Plus, he's the runner-up in Best Comedy Writing (for "The Promotion"), behind only the Hacks showrunning trio of Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky (for "A Slippery Slope").
Should Rogen win all four, he'd be the only person in Emmy history to win those specific trophies in the same year. In 2020, Daniel Levy won three of the four for Schitt's Creek, but his acting award was for supporting, not lead. Here's what Rogen tells Gold Derby about potentially making history:
