Cargo Entertainment announced today that Oscar nominee Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, Take Shelter, Revolutionary Road) and Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie) have been added to the cast of writer-director Siofra Campbell’s thriller The Price.

Shannon and Schweighöfer join Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus), who plays the frantic mother of a kidnapped child who realizes that her ex-partner, played by Shannon, is the instigator and must deal with the fall-out when he is double-crossed.

Under the recently announced partnership between Marina Grasic’s Cargo Entertainment and Mimi Steinbauer’s Radiant Films International, Steinbauer, in her new role as Cargo’s President of Distribution, is handling foreign sales on the project at the ongoing Cannes Film Market.

Cargo represents worldwide rights to the film.

When season 7 of Burn Notice picks up nine months after last season’s finale, Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) is deep undercover and far away from his friends back in Miami. When we chatted with Donovan about the premiere, we asked him if this was the darkest we’ve seen his character.

“Absolutely,” he responded. “One of the show’s conceit was Michael had to compartmentalize his feelings to protect himself and survive, not only as a spy but as a child. The first time we’re seeing him this year we’re gonna pull that layer away and expose how he feels.

Between the hurricane that hit the city on "Center of the Storm;" the disagreement Michael got himself into with Vaughn; and his attempts to stop a hitman from killing a witness, Michael truly was at the center of it all this week on Burn Notice.

As usual, he was juggling many things. In this case, that involved helping the FBI find a witness, but also help a wanna-be-hitman find the path back to the side of good. Sam made a Star Wars reference early in the episode, and the discussions between Cole and Michael had a little bit of that “use the force” feel to them.

I really liked how Michael got a true sense of Cole and helped him realize that even when he was trying to be bad, he was doing it with an eye for being responsible and really was a good guy. I really hope that Cole turns back up.
