Every Fan of Reacher Should Watch This Legendary 3-Season Sitcom Starring Alan Ritchson in His Most Unhinged Comedic Role
Image
Before he was the brick wall with fists in Reacher, Alan Ritchson was Kevin “Thad” Devlin Castle in Blue Mountain State, a chaotic, over-the-top college football bro with more ego than sense. This cult-favorite sitcom ran for just three seasons, but it gave us Ritchson in peak comedy form, flexing his absurdity long before he was flexing justice.

If you’re only familiar with his tough guy persona, Blue Mountain State is the perfect crash course in how outrageously funny (and weird) Ritchson can get.

Alan Ritchson’s wildest role yet: Before Reacher, there was Blue Mountain State Alan Ritchson in Reacher Season 3 (2025) | Credits: Amazon MGM Studios

Before Alan Ritchson became the face-breaking, justice-serving Jack Reacher, he was doing keg stands and cookie-butt relays in Blue Mountain State. The same guy who carries Prime Video’s Reacher with a quiet intensity was once the loudest, wildest jock on Spike TV’s raunchiest sitcom.

'Blue Mountain State' Sequel Series With Reacher's Alan Ritchson Happening
Image
Blue Mountain State was a college football comedy TV series that ran for three seasons on Spike TV in the early 2010s, and starred Reacher's Alan Ritchson as linebacker Thad Castle. The show developed a cult following when it streamed on Netflix, and in Feb. 2024, it was announced that the series would get a fourth season from Lionsgate Television, with stars Ritchson, Darin Brooks, and co-creator / actor Chris Romano returning. And now it looks like Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video may give the greenlight very soon, according to Deadline.

The show centered around a fictional Midwest college called Blue Mountain State, and its powerhouse football team, the Mountain Goats. It followed the main and backup quarterbacks, Radon (Page Kennedy) the egomaniac and Alex (Brooks) who would rather be partying as the backup and hanging with the mascot (Romano). Ritchson's Thad was the team captain and fairly hardcore about football and hazing incoming freshmen.

‘Blue Mountain State’ Sequel Gains Momentum At Amazon; “We Are Going To Make A Fourth Season Happen,” Alan Ritchson Says
Image
Cult college football series Blue Mountain State‘s comeback is inching closer to reality. A sequel to the 2010 comedy from Lionsgate TV, with Reacher’s Alan Ritchson set to reprise his role as Kevin “Thad” Castle, hit the marketplace a year ago. Soon thereafter, it was quietly set up for development at Prime Video, home of Reacher, and Amazon MGM Studios, where Ritchson has a first-look deal.

According to sources, development is now in its final stages, with a greenlight decision expected within a month or two. Signs have been promising, and Ritchson, star and executive producer of the followup, has given the new installment his seal of approval, calling it “perfect.”

“We’re actually setting it up with Amazon,” he said during a press conference at the Daytona 500 Sunday. “We are going to make a fourth season happen; I’m trying to work it into my schedule. Honestly, I...

'It's Going to be the Best Season [Yet]': Reacher's Alan Ritchson Confirms Revival of His Cult Classic Comedy Series at Amazon
Image
The Blue Mountain State revival series is seemingly a go at Amazon Prime Video. Alan Ritchson recently confirmed that another season of the cult classic comedy series is in the works for the streaming service.

Speaking with the media on Sunday, Feb. 16, during NASCAR's Daytona 500, in which he served as an honorary pace car driver, Ritchson answered questions about his acting career, including whether Blue Mountain State's Thad Castle or Reacher's Jack Reacher was more fun to play. It was during this answer that the actor shared that Amazon would be the home of the Blue Mountain State revival series. "We're actually setting it up with Amazon," he revealed (via Instagram). "I think it's going to be the best season of Bms we've ever had. It is so damn funny, and it's perfect, you know, the way that we resurrect the characters and then sort of bring them...

How ‘Companion’ Went From Zach Cregger’s ‘Barbarian’ Follow-Up to Drew Hancock’s Acclaimed Debut
Image
What began as a pandemic-era writing exercise is now Companion, Drew Hancock’s widely acclaimed feature directorial debut.

Feeling unfulfilled by the sitcom-heavy direction his career was going, Hancock admitted some hard truths to himself during the dregs of 2020. So the Omaha, Nebraska native decided to write his way out of his lot at the time by crafting a genre feature that he could use as a writing sample to land other related work. That screenplay became Companion, and feeling confident in what he’d committed to paper, the filmmaker decided to send the script to a mutual friend of BoulderLight Pictures’ J.D. Lifshitz.

Riding high on their recent producorial success of Zach Cregger’s Barbarian, Lifshitz and his producing partner Raphael Margules were so impressed by Hancock’s script that they brought it to the rest of the Barbarian brain trust including Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Cregger himself.

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers: Alum Darin Brooks Film Final Scenes On The Blue Mountain State Sequel
Image
The Bold And The Beautiful spoilers reveal that B&b alum Darin Brooks, formerly Wyatt Spencer, recently offered an update on what he has been doing since his departure earlier this year. It seems that Darin has moved on to other projects and is doing really well. Darin just wrapped on The Blue Mountain State sequel.

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Wyatt Spencer Was Sidelined Some Time Ago

Wyatt was a front and center character for a while. However, since Flo Fulton (Katrina Bowden) suddenly disappeared, Wyatt seemingly had nothing to do but be Liam Spencer’s (Scott Clifton) sounding board.

Since his departure, fans have certainly missed seeing him on the small screen but the big screen was out there calling his name.

Brooks posted a photo of himself with Team USA crew from the set. In the photo, Brooks is in the center with his arms crossed and...

Darin Brooks shared an update on his actor’s life after The Bold and the Beautiful. Earlier this year, he said goodbye to his character Wyatt Spencer. Brooks has since turned to greener pastures. He just wrapped up filming the Blue Mountain State sequel.

Go Team USA!

Brooks was granted leading man status on B&b until Wyatt became a side character. Fans miss seeing the hunk on the small screen. The CBS alum showed off his goofy side.

He posted a group of himself with the “Team USA” crew from the set of Blue Mountain State. Brooks stood in the center with his arms crossed. All of them wore matching navy blue track jackets.

Brooks announced that he shot his final scene for the Blue Mountain State sequel, which happens to be another film. Normally, actors are emotional when filming their final shot, but not for this gang. They couldn...

Blue Mountain State Cast & Character Guide
Image
Blue Mountain State is a college sitcom that depicts American state college culture, including partying and college football. The show originally aired from 2010-2011 on Spike, gained a cult following on Netflix, and received a sequel movie in 2016. The talented cast includes actors like The Bold and the Beautiful star Darin Brooks, Reacher star Alan Ritchson, and Chris Romano, who also co-created the series with Eric Falconer.

Created by Chris Romano and Eric Falconer, Blue Mountain State is a college sitcom about the rowdy misadventures of the titular university's football team, the Mountain Goats. Though fictional, Blue Mountain State embodies the typical American state college by embracing the raunchiest parts of the culture, including binge drinking, drugs, sex, and, of course, the phenomenon that is college football.

Blue Mountain State ran for three seasons from 2010-2011 and originally aired on Spike, but gained a cult following once it started streaming on Netflix.

Netflix Now Has The Perfect Alan Ritchson Show To Watch While Waiting For Reacher Season 3
Image
While awaiting the premiere of Reacher season 3, fans can watch Alan Ritchson's Blue Mountain State on Netflix. Reacher season 3, based on Lee Child's Persuader, will likely be released in early 2025. Ritchson's diverse roles in Reacher and Blue Mountain State highlight his impressive range as an actor.

Reacher season 3's release date is sadly unknown, and as fans eagerly await any news concerning the upcoming episodes, they can get their Alan Ritchson fix by watching one of his previous series on Netflix. The Amazon Prime Video action crime show, based on Lee Child's Jack Reacher book series, revolves around Ritchson's eponymous character, Jack Reacher, a former major with the United States Army military police and self-proclaimed hobo. Each season pulls inspiration from one of Child's novels, with season 1 based on Killing Floor (the first Jack Reacher book) and season 2 based on Bad Luck and Trouble.

Blue Mountain State | Sitcom reboot on the way with original creators and cast
Leah Renee, Darin Brooks, Alan Ritchson, and Chris Romano in Blue Mountain State (2010)
A reboot of cult comedy Blue Mountain State is on the cards, with the original creators and cast set to return.

Though the Tom Cruise films Jack Reacher and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back were fun, it is Alan Ritchson who has really defined the role of Reacher onscreen. Reacher recently finished airing its second season on Amazon Prime, and although the critical reception wasn’t as positive as the first, it is currently pressing ahead with season three, which will reportedly be based on author Lee Child’s seventh novel, Persuader. The plot will see Reacher conduct a secret mission on behalf of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to help bring down a drug smuggler, Zachary Beck.

Alan Ritchson first came to prominence co-starring in sitcom Blue Mountain State, in which he played Kevin “Thad” Castle.

Reacher's Alan Ritchson Developing Sequel To His Breakout Sports Comedy Show
Image
Alan Ritchson is developing a sequel to Blue Mountain State, with negotiations ongoing for the original series leads to reprise their roles. Despite the actors aging, Ritchson's growing fame could lead the sequel to success. The timing for a Blue Mountain State sequel may be odd, but with Ritchson's success in Reacher and movie roles, now could be the perfect time.

Alan Ritchson is developing a sequel to his show Blue Mountain State. The raunchy sports comedy show surrounded the lives of three college freshmen football players as they navigate a college life filled with football, girls, classes, and shenanigans. Also starring Darin Brooks, Sam Jones III and The Meg's Page Kennedy, the show originally ran for three seasons from 2010–11.

According to Deadline, a sequel is now being developed for Blue Mountain State. Ritchson will reprise his role in the show, which has not fully landed yet as negotiations are ongoing.

Blue Mountain State sequel series with Alan Ritchson in the works
Image
Before Alan Ritchson was Jack Reacher, he was Kevin “Thad” Castle, the Blue Mountain State football team captain in the cult TV comedy series. I’m not at all familiar with the series, but according to Deadline, Blue Mountain State is eyeing a comeback as a sequel series is being shopped.

Alan Ritchson would reprise his role for the Blue Mountain State sequel series, with Darin Brooks and Chris Romano also expected to return as Alex Moran and Sammy Cacciatore, respectively. The original series premiered on Spike TV (remember that?) in 2010 and aired for three seasons before it was cancelled. It followed three incoming freshmen attending Midwestern college football powerhouse Blue Mountain State who must quickly adapt to college life and juggle football, girls, classes, and nonstop hazing. Over the years, the series has gathered a cult following, even spawning a Kickstarter-funded follow-up movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland.

Kristen Bell on “Dream Come True” of Working With Ben Platt in ’The People We Hate at the Wedding’

Click here to read the full article.

The first scene Kristen Bell shot in Claire Scanlon’s new comedy, The People We Hate at the Wedding, is one that more than a few might describe as a bit of a nightmare.

“It was 7 a.m. and they threw me in the Thames River,” Bell explained with a smile on Wednesday night while standing on the red carpet in Westwood, host of the Prime Video premiere. “That river is neither warm nor clean but the minute we were done with that scene, we realized, oh, the rest of the movie is going to be a breeze.”

Call it a reward for a dirty job done early, the rest of Bell’s experience on the film played like a “dream come true.” That was thanks, in large part, to her co-stars. Based on the book by Grant Ginder and penned by writer-producer...

Mansions and gold mines. Friendship and despair. Hope. Death. Love. Treasure beyond imagination always vanishes in the desert wind." The film features music from the band Cage The Elephant. And this stars David Wall, Darin Brooks, Chris Romano, Derek Severson, Garrett Marchbank, and David Wysocki. For an indie production, this actually looks pretty good. Quibi Orders ‘Florida Man’ Anthology Comedy Series From ‘Blue Mountain State’ Writers
Leah Renee, Darin Brooks, Alan Ritchson, and Chris Romano in Blue Mountain State (2010)
Exclusive: Quibi has given a series order to Florida Man (working title), a comedy series from Blue Mountain State writers Romanski (aka Chris Romano) and Drew Hancock, and Ace Entertainment.

Written by Hancock and Romano, this outrageous anthology comedy series rips real headlines from insane stories, and tells us the made up tale of how they came to be. Whether it is Florida Man Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon for Throwing Alligator through Wendy’s Drive-Thru Window or Florida Man with “Do Not Resuscitate” Tattoo Creates Ethical Dilemma for Hospital Staff, these stories can only happen in Florida.

Ace Entertainment’s Matt Kaplan and Spencer Berman executive produce with Jake Szymanski, Dylan Trussell and David Dinetz. Hancock, Romano and Paul Kim co-executive produce. Ace Entertainment is the studio.

Commercial directors Dinetz and Trussell initially conceived the idea for Florida Man.

Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick et Morty (2013)
‘Rick and Morty’ Fans, Check Out the Justin Roiland Series So Subversive, Bill Cosby Took Legal Action
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick et Morty (2013)
Years before a deluge of women started speaking out about Bill Cosby’s behavior off-screen, the then-beloved comedian revealed that there were some things he didn’t find particularly funny — specifically, the web series “House of Cosbys,” an absurdist animated series created by a young Justin Roiland.

Originally produced in 2005, “House of Cosbys” was one of the first major successes for Channel 101, the screening series/digital platform created by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. “Channel 101” featured a number of comedy stars, including Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, and The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone – while also leading to the collaboration between Harmon and Roiland that would eventually give birth to “Rick and Morty.”

It also, however, attracted the ire of Cosby, who for some reason didn’t see the humor in the show. “Cosbys” focused on Mitchell (voiced by Jeff B. Davis, who would...

Exclusive Interview: Alan Ritchson, Eric Falconer And Chris “Romanski” Romano Talk Blue Mountain State
Once upon a time, Spike introduced a show called Blue Mountain State that would later become one of my most re-watched addictions. No matter how many times Thad Castle ran the cookie race or hit Golden Arm with his truck, the Bms Goats hilariously reveled in their asinine, drug-fueled absurdity.

Sure, it’s fratty, brobeans comedy on steroids, but creators Eric Falconer and Chris “Romanski” Romano cover all their bases (or manage all their assignments?) rather well for a show built on relentless immaturity. That was until Spike unceremoniously axed the show after Season 3, and Bms fans were left without Alex Moran’s senior year.

It was then that Falconer, Romanski, and the faithful Goats started a Kickstarter fund to save Blue Mountain State, and they were met with an offering of $1.9 million from their devoted fanbase. This outpouring of generosity is why we now have the newly-released movie, Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland...

Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland Review
Blue Mountain State: The Rise Of Thadland is a drug-fueled dystopian comedy that would make Rob Gronkowski blush – we’re coming out of the gate guns-blazing on this one! Everything that television audiences love about the hard-partying Mountain Goats makes a return in Lev L. Spiro’s spinoff film, as creators Eric Falconer and Romanski leave a trail of cocaine dust while they unleash epic, Thad-Castle-approved anarchy.

It’s perversely familiar and relentlessly immature (in a good way), which is everything Bms fans have come to expect. We’re gifted an epic, multi-day party that reunites all our favorite characters, but with the calculated exclusion of on-field football antics, something feels slightly amiss. Not enough to detract immensely, just a little more welcomed playmaking to balance…ah, who am I kidding. You’re watching for the sloots and booze, and that’s exactly what you’ll get!

As Alex Moran...

Sports Comedy ‘Blue Mountain State’ Seeking Movie Resurrection Via Kickstarter Crowdfunding Campaign
Spike comedy series Blue Mountain State was cancelled in 2012 after three seasons, but a second life on Netflix and Hulu reinvigorated fan interest. Now the show’s creators are hoping to channel that demand into a big-screen film continuation with a Kickstarter campaign launched today. “We’ve seen fan activity on social media since the show ended and went on to Netflix, and we’ve seen the audience continue to grow through that platform,” said Alan Ritchson (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), who played high-strung All-American linebacker Thad Castle on the show and is aboard to produce the film project with co-creators Chris Romano and Eric Falconer. “When they find it on Netflix, they also find out it’s no longer airing on Spike or being made. A lot of them are asking for another season. We didn’t get our senior year and we want to do that.

Blue Mountain State: Cancelled; No Season Four
The game is over for Coach Daniels (Ed Marinaro) and his team. There won't be a fourth season for Blue Mountain State. The Spike TV series has been cancelled.

The comedy series revolves around the on and off-field antics of Pennsylvania college football powerhouse, Blue Mountain State. Coach Daniels has his hands full with the hijynx of his wife (Denise Richards) and students like team captain Thad (Alan Ritchson), quarterback Alex (Darin Brooks), and team mascot Sammy (Chris Romano).

The comedy performed decently for Spike in season one and realized significant gains in season two. The cable channel reported that the series saw a 33% increase with men 18-34, a 50% climb in men 18-24, and a 14% increase with men 18-49.

'Blue Mountain State' canceled: Season 4 drops out of Spike lineup
Bad news, Mountain Goats fans. Zap2it has learned exclusively that the plug has officially been pulled on "Blue Mountain State," the Lionsgate-produced college comedy, following its third season.

"Blue Mountain State," which aired its series finale in November, shot in Montreal and followed the often crude hijinks of a Pennsylvania college football team led by Thad (Alan Ritchson), Alex (Darin Brooks), and Sammy (Chris Romano). Denise Richards also starred as the wife of Coach Daniels (Ed Marinaro). The actors have now been released from their contracts.

The series aired for three 13-episode seasons on Spike, experiencing significant audience growth in its second season and dipping to about 900,000 viewers in Season 3. When Spike passed on renewing the series for Season 4, Lionsgate considered shopping it elsewhere, but recently notified cast and crew that it would not be revived.

While we'll miss the "American Pie" type humor that is rarely seen on television,...

Celebrity Twitterwatch: Ian Somerhalder's Birthday Suit! Plus Both "Being Human" Werewolves, Russell Tovey and Sam Huntington
No hat, but I'm not complaining.

Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we take a look at what the beautiful people are saying about their beautiful lives. It's kind of like a visiting a zoo, but with better decorators.

Harry Shum, Jr. was the toast of Glee this week, and that meant doing press. In the old days, he would have dressed up and met a publicist at the Beverly Hilton pool and seen a parade of journalists. Now, he rolls out of bed and gets dressed. Well, sort of. I'd like to think this is how he lives life generally. Every gentleman should wear a hat.

Speaking of media attention, comic and former MTV VJ Dave Holmes took time to note that in his passing, Steve Jobs had performed a selfless act and done the impossible: He pulled a spotlight away from Sarah Palin.

Finally responding to the media...

Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, and Cobie Smulders in How I Met Your Mother (2005)
Watch: Barney Has Pre-Wedding Jitters
Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, and Cobie Smulders in How I Met Your Mother (2005)
CBS has released a new promo clip for the upcoming season premiere of "How I Met Your Mother" and from the looks of it, season seven picks at a wedding -- Barney's wedding!

Okay, so maybe it's Barney's future wedding, but it's still pretty funny.

The bulk the premiere episode plays out in the normal timeline, with Ted (Josh Radnor) performing best man duties for childhood friend Punchie (Chris Romanski). But there's also another look at Ted's other best man gig -- at Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) future wedding.

In the clip, Ted walks in on his tuxedo-clad best friend, and Barney then goes off on how he's not sure if he's ready to commit to his tie. With so many options, how does he know if he's picking the right tie? After all, he doesn't want to get stuck with just one tie.

Only Barney can pull off a tie metaphor.

'How I Met Your Mother' preview: Barney drops a metaphor before his mystery wedding
"How I Met Your Mother" fans, restart your speculation engines. The Season 7 premiere, "The Best Man," is just around the corner. And ahead of its Sept. 19 debut, CBS released a rather telling clip.

Now, as we already know, the bulk the episode plays out in the normal timeline, with Ted  (Josh Radnor) performing best man duties for childhood friend Punchie (Chris Romanski) and the rest of the gang somehow along for the ride at his Cleveland nuptials. But there's also another look at Ted's other best man gig, at Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) future wedding.

Picking up where Season 6 left off, with Ted walking in on his tuxedo-clad best friend, Barney goes off on how he's not sure if he's ready to commit to his tie. He has a few tie options, you know, and it's hard to tell if he's picking the right one.

Naturally, Barney would find a...

'How I Met Your Mother' Season 7 premiere promo: Big questions, bigger dance moves
Reasons to be excited for the Sept. 19 Season 7 premiere of "How I Met Your Mother" are many -- and not just because the veteran comedy marks its return with a full-hour of new programming.

CBS recently released the first promo for the premiere, "The Best Man," and it seems likely to deliver on all the promises of sexy dancing and nuptial backdrops as the photos we recently caught. It also poses two big questions...

#1: Who will get married? Calm down. We're going to have to go with the absentee Punchy (Chris Romanski), whose wedding seems to be setting for all the non-flash-forward events.

#2: Who will hook up? Really. Could they? Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) are looking awfully comfortable out there on the dance floor, but with the gang now on a crash course with his own wedding, we expect the show to tread at...

DVD Review: Blue Mountain State – Season One
Blue Mountain State: Season One

Stars: Darin Brooks, Alan Ritchson, Ed Marinaro, Sam Jones III | Created by Eric Falconer, Chris Romano

Blue Mountain State sees three football-mad freshman – Alex (Brooks), a talented quarterback who is content to sit on the bench and party with his best friend Sammy (played by co-creator Chris Romano), who aspired to be nothing more that the school’s football mascot; and Craig (Jones III), whose life and career has already been mapped out by his overbearing girlfriend – arrive at a football-crazy mid-western college where they must learn to juggle football, girls, studying and non-stop partying.

One of the more outrageous sitcoms to hit Us television screens in recent years, Blue Mountain State combines the two most popular teen genres – the sports movie and the gross-out comedy – to great effect, and follows in the footsteps of American Pie in successfully capturing both Ott sexual humour and the college experience.

'How I Met Your Mother' Season 7 premiere pics: Robin and Barney get close in 'The Best Man'
It looks like the seventh season of "How I Met Your Mother" kicks off with a wedding, but not the one you're probably thinking of.

Ted's (Josh Radnor) childhood best friend and last season's wedding red herring, Punchy (Chris Romanski), finally ties the knot in the Sept. 19 premiere, "The Best Man." And while we're not sure why the entire gang makes it to the apparently Halloween-themed nuptials, it matters little. Just check out how close Robin (Cobie Smulders) and Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) are looking on the dance floor.

As you remember, Season 6 ended with a flash forward to Barney's wedding and a great deal of uncertainty as to the identity of the bride. Robin apparently toys with coming clean about her renewed affections for her ex in the season premiere, but given Season 7's apparent status as Robin-heavy, we're thinking she'll probably stew over those feelings for a little longer.

'How I Met Your Mother': Will we meet the mother in the season finale? We have your answer!
Neil Patrick Harris, Alyson Hannigan, Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, and Cobie Smulders in How I Met Your Mother (2005)
As any regular viewer of CBS’ How I Met Your Mother well knows, the show’s May 16 season finale includes a wedding. Yes, these are the nuptials that were teased in this season’s premiere back in September, but we still don’t know who’s getting married — it could be Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) or Robin (Cobie Smulders) or even Ted’s (Josh Radnor) pal Punchy (Chris Romano). Alas, there’s a bigger question that stems from the impending nuptials, one that has been bouncing around the rumor mill: Are we also going to meet the mother in the...
