The King's Man Delayed Until Fall as Bob's Burgers Movie Is Pulled from Disney Slate
Image
Disney is following in the footsteps of MGM, Universal, and Sony be delaying their Q1 releases. The King's Man, Ron's Gone Wrong, Antlers, and more have been delayed, while the highly anticipated Bob's Burgers movie has been taking off the release slate entirely. As for whether or not Marvel Studios' upcoming Black Widow movie will be delayed, that has yet to be confirmed. However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige says that it is a real possibility.

Bob's Burgers was originally set to open in theaters this April, but it no longer has a release date. It is unclear if Disney will announce a new date, or have the movie go straight to streaming instead. The King's Man (20th) was previously slated for release on March 12th, and now moves to August 20th. The movie was originally going to open on November 15th, 2019, but was pushed back first to February 14th,...

Searchlight Sets Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Nightmare Alley’ for December, ‘French Dispatch’ Still Undated
Image
Searchlight Pictures has updated its 2021 release calendar, dating Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley” for December 3. The date puts del Toro’s latest in the thick of the 2021-2022 awards season. Searchlight appears to be following the same release plan it gave del Toro’s last movie, “The Shape of Water,” which started its U.S. theatrical rollout on the first weekend of December. “The Shape of Water” debuted at the Venice Film Festival, winning the Golden Lion, and it seems likely “Nightmare Alley” will show up on the fall film festival circuit.

Del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley” is adapted by the filmmaker, and film critic Kim Morgan, from the 1946 William Lindsay Gresham novel of the same name. The ensemble cast includes Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, Richard Jenkins, Ron Perlman, Rooney Mara, and David Strathairn. The film originally eyed a release in 2020, but pandemic-related production delays...

Why Are Fewer Women Than Men Planning to Get a Covid-19 Vaccine?
Image
With multiple promising candidates for Covid-19 vaccines inching closer to becoming a reality, much of the world is looking forward to a near-ish future marked by safe indoor family gatherings, live music, and drunken karaoke nights. But public health researchers are still concerned that some Americans, in their unwillingness to get vaccinated, will possibly endanger the rest of the public — and this fear is justified, according to two studies released this week.

A National Geographic survey of 2,201 Americans found that 69 percent of men said they would take a Covid-19 vaccine,...

NBC News Says Fox News “Has Chosen To Smear” Reporter Brandy Zadrozny With Tucker Carlson Segment
Image
NBC News on Thursday issued a strong statement of support for one of its reporters, Brandy Zadrozny, who was targeted in a segment on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight.

In the segment last night, Carlson and Darren Beattie, a former speechwriter to Donald Trump, talked of Zadrozny’s reporting, accusing her of trying to “ruin” the lives of supporters of the president by seeking out identifying information of anonymous Twitter users.

“Why would NBC News be doing something like this?” Carlson asked.

Zadrozny is an investigative reporter for the network who has been reporting on misinformation and QAnon conspiracy theories, particularly on social media platforms. Last week, she wrote on a story about what she described as an online network built around the president’s claim that the presidential election will be rigged.

In a statement, NBC News said that Zadrozny “is relentlessly well-researched and sophisticated in her understanding of...

The Internet’s Freaking Out Over Netflix’s New Original Horror Movie
Charlie Kaufman has never exactly been renowned for his work being straightforward. After all, you don’t come up with ideas like Being John Malkovich and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind without having a great deal of creativity and eccentricity in equal measure, and that’s without even mentioning Adaptation, which saw Nicolas Cage playing two fictionalized versions of the writer, director and novelist in a meta story about his failures to adapt a novel for the big screen.

Having taken an extended break after his psychological stop-motion tale Anomalisa bombed at the box office, with the movie proving to have such a limited niche audience that it couldn’t even recoup the $8 million budget in theaters despite widespread critical acclaim, Kaufman is back with the Netflix original I’m Thinking of Ending Things.

Like all of his previous output, it certainly isn’t designed to appeal to everyone, but...

Hellraiser Reboot Reportedly Being Stalled By Clive Barker’s Lawsuit
The future of the Hellraiser franchise is currently in a transitional space: on the one hand, a reboot movie and HBO series are planned, but on the other, Clive Barker is now aiming to get back the rights to the source material behind the original film. While this may not happen before a new Hellraiser, it does seem that Barker’s legal case could affect whether we’ll get new approaches to the Cenobites in the reboot.

According to a video by Hellraiser fan Mr. H, the Spyglass Media take on the Cenobites could now be dependent on the timing and outcome of Barker’s lawsuit. While details still seem to be a bit uncertain, David Bruckner is attached to direct Hellraiser, with a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, and possibly a continued involvement by David Goyer. And from what Bruckner had to say about the project, the...

Fox News Touting QAnon Is All You Need to Know About the So-Called ‘News’ Network
Image
Fox News’ Jesse Watters made a decision to disregard the well-being of his audience on Saturday night in order to whine about unsubstantiated grievances of media “censorship” and election interference against those on the right.

Watters commiserated with his guest, the president’s son Eric Trump, over the non-issues by praising the harmful conspiracy group QAnon. Both the host and Eric framed Twitter’s recent ban of the fringe movement as a way to explain the falsity that there is a liberal media that is in cahoots with big tech...

A Wayfair Child-Trafficking Conspiracy Theory Is Flourishing on TikTok, Despite It Being Completely False
Image
Late last week, when #wayfair started trending on Twitter, one would have been forgiven for assuming that the hashtag was started by a medium-to-high-end household decor enthusiast. Yet the roots of the trend were much darker than that. In fact, it alluded to a conspiracy theory which began on Reddit’s r/conspiracy subreddit, according to NBC News’ Ben Collins, speculating that Wayfair was covertly using its cabinets as shipping containers for a secret child trafficking ring. The “evidence” for this theory was prices of between $12,699.99 and $14,499.99 for some of its cabinets,...

Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
HBO Developing Hellraiser Series with David Gordon Green, Mark Verheiden, and Michael Dougherty
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
HBO has such sights to show you... Last summer it was revealed that a Hellraiser TV series was in development with producers Roy Lee (It) and Dan Farah (Ready Player One) attached. While the series didn't have a network to call home then, it certainly does now, as Deadline reports that HBO has "made a deal" to create a Hellraiser series.

Deadline also reveals that David Gordon Green (2018's Halloween) will direct "the pilot and several more initial episodes" of the Hellraiser series, with Mark Verheiden and Michael Dougherty on board as writers for the new show.

Green, Verheiden, and Dougherty will also executive produce the series alongside Lee, Farah, Lawrence Kuppin, David Salzman, Rough House Pictures' Danny McBride, Jody Hill, and Brandon James, as well as Eric Gardner of Panacea Entertainment.

Rather than a remake, Deadline reports that the series will be an "...elevated continuation and expansion of the well-established Hellraiser mythology.

Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
Hellraiser Reboot Director Promises He Won’t Hold Back
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
After years of development problems, it now appears that we’re finally getting a Hellraiser reboot, with The Ritual‘s David Bruckner behind the camera. Spyglass Media are responsible for the new picture, which is said to be a “reimagination” of Clive Barker’s 1987 original. And while reassuring any fans worried that the reboot would dilute the franchise’s graphic content, Bruckner has now confirmed on social media that he won’t be holding back.

The director had the following to say about the outpouring of support for his appointment as director for Hellraiser:

Thanks all for the Hellraiser love. Promise not to hold back.

Hellraiser Reboot Director Promises Not to Hold Back
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
The original Hellraiser released in 1987 didn't hold back. It still stands as one of the most shockingly gory and disturbing horror movies ever released. And its first sequel doubled down on the pain and torture. There have been a lot of sequels since. But now we're getting a true reboot of the entire franchise, and it was announced last week that David Bruckner will be directing. He has since gone on social media to promise that he won't 'hold back' when it comes to his Hellraiser reboot.

Thanks all for the Hellraiser love. Promise not to hold back.

— David Bruckner (@bruckmachina) April 11, 2020

Spyglass Media is behind this new reimagining of the Clive Barker classic, and with David's promise comes the notion that this will be one gory, pain-filled R-Rated experience for true horror hounds. It will reestablish Pinhead and the Cenobites as a true force from Hell that is not to be trifled with.

Gary Dauberman
In today’s film news roundup, “Salem’s Lot” and “Hellraiser” draw directors, Tara Reid and Paul Mormando find new roles and zombie pandemic thriller “16 States” lands at Lionsgate.

New Line has hired “It” writer Gary Dauberman to direct its adaptation of Stephen King’s 1975 horror novel “Salem’s Lot” from his own script.

Dauberman made his directorial debut with New Line’s “Annabelle Comes Home,” which he wrote. In addition to both “It” films, he’s also written “Annabelle,” “Annabelle Creation” and “The Nun.”

James Wan, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper are producing “Salem’s Lot,” which is focused on writer Ben Mears returning to the Maine town of Jerusalem’s Lot (shortened to Salem’s Lot), where he had lived as a boy. He discovers that the townspeople are slowly being turned into vampires.

The book was also adapted in 1979 as a miniseries starring David Soul, and a TV...

Hellraiser Reboot Is Happening with The Ritual Director David Bruckner
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
We have such sights to show you, as the Hellraiser reboot has found its director. David Bruckner had been tapped to helm the revamp of the classic horror franchise. As previously revealed, Spyglass Media has acquired the movie rights and is planning to bring Pinhead and the Cenobites back to the big screen. They are now one step closer, as the filmmaking team seems to be firmly in place.

According to a new report, David Bruckner, who previously directed Netflix's The Ritual. Bruckner has closed a deal to direct the new movie. Bruckner will re-team with screenwriters Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski, who he worked with on his latest movie The Night House. It was previously revealed that David S. Hellraiser Reboot to be Directed by David Bruckner from a Screenplay by Ben Collins & Luke Piotrowski
Last year it was announced that David S. Goyer was producing and writing a “loyal, yet evolved reimagining” of Clive Barker's Hellraiser (which is based on his novella The Hellbound Heart), and now it's been revealed that David Bruckner has been summoned to direct the film, with Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski coming aboard to write the screenplay.

The latest Hellraiser news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who reveal that Goyer is still involved as a producer (as well as Keith Levine) and is writing the story for the film, so it looks like Goyer will still have creative input on the screenplay by Collins and Piotrowski.

The new Hellraiser movie is coming from Spyglass Media, a collaboration between Gary Barber and Lantern Entertainment's Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic. As THR notes, Spyglass is also the company behind the upcoming Scream movie.

As previously noted by Daily Dead Editor-in-Chief Jonathan James,...

The Hellraiser Reboot Has Found Its Director And Writers
Doug Bradley in Le Pacte (1987)
Spyglass is about to breathe new life into ol’ Pinhead, as a fresh incarnation of Hellraiser is quickly beginning to take shape behind the scenes. And we couldn’t be more excited about it.

Said to be a “reimagination” of the 1987 classic of the same name, it’s even received the blessing of the legendary Clive Barker. And though it’s still early days, the creative team is now coming together. Earlier today, Deadline brought word that the project has snagged director David Bruckner to helm, while Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski are on script duties. A solid combination of talent, then, and one that’ll surely attract a decent cast.

Speaking of which, no names in regards to actors/actresses have been announced just yet, but with the director and writers now in place, you can expect that to change soon. After all, we imagine that many Hollywood stars are already lining up,...

(Although it’s a footnote to the larger election interference story of 2016, Russian troll farms were also active on Sanders’ behalf then.)

Fangoria and Bloody Disgusting Teaming Up for New Halloween Horror Movie The Sisters Of Samhain, Gregg Bishop to Direct
If you've listened to Corpse Club or read Daily Dead over the years, you may know that I'm not shy about sharing my eternal love for the 2008 zombified horror comedy Dance of the Dead, directed by Gregg Bishop from a screenplay by Joe Ballarini (I even had the undying pleasure of helping put together 10th anniversary screenings for the film). It's with immense pleasure and plenty of anticipation that we share the news that Bloody Disgusting and Fangoria are teaming up for Bishop's next movie, The Sisters of Samhain, which features a "rogue coven" running amok on Halloween night.

Announced by Bloody Disgusting and Deadline, The Sisters of Samhain will be directed by Bishop from a screenplay by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (the writing duo behind Super Dark Times and the recent Sundance hit The Night House). According to Bloody Disgusting, the film "follows a group of friends who...

Sundance 2020 Review: Rebecca Hall Tackles Grief and Guilt for The Night House
While summarizing The Night House before the screening at Sundance, David Bruckner offered up this thought to the audience—what is more frightening: that ghosts actually exist, or that they don’t? And as far as film introductions go, you can’t get more on point than that.

Marrying grief and the horror genre isn’t exactly new territory, but in Bruckner’s The Night House, we see it explored in a much different fashion than before, thanks to an effective and thought-provoking script from writers Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski. At the center of the film’s story is Beth (Rebecca Hall), whose husband Owen (Evan Jonigkeit) recently killed himself and she’s left to pick up the pieces of her life without him. As Beth immerses herself in old home movies and wine to try and quell the grief that is consuming her, the widow is left unsettled...

Sundance Review: The Night House Traps Rebecca Hall With Her Demons
It’s about 20 minutes into The Night House that it finds its footing. The school year has just ended and Beth (Rebecca Hall), a high school English teacher, goes back to work to input a few more assignments. When a soccer mom type (Samantha Buck) comes in to contest her son’s grades, Beth isn’t having it, to say the least. She stares her down with a trace of empathy that manages to undercut her dead eyes and Hall, ever the solid actor, pinpoints and explores the sarcastic humor latent to the script. When mom continues to press her, Beth flatly explains that her husband, Owen (Evan Jonigkeit), has just shot himself. If this woman wants her son to get a B, he can get a B. It really doesn’t matter.

The scene continues from there, but this moment is the finest representation of what the script from...

This is the first major deal out of the ground at Sundance, with some films having pre-sold before the festival. Representatives for Searchlight and Endeavor did not respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.

Of course, Bruckner is best known for his Netflix hit horror film “The Ritual,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017. His other credits include the TV series “Creepshow” and the short titled “Talk Show.”

Rebecca Hall in La proie d'une ombre (2020)
‘The Night House’: Film Review
Rebecca Hall in La proie d'une ombre (2020)
A knack for creepy atmospherics and individual scares goes a long way in the horror genre, and it takes “The Night House” pretty far. Though this tale of a new widow’s apparent haunting gets progressively lost in a narrative maze that’s complicated without being particularly rewarding, .

Rebecca Hall plays Beth, an upstate New York schoolteacher reeling from her husband of 14 years taking his life just a few days before we meet her. Completely blindsided by that event — particularly since as far as she knew, she was the only party in their marriage who suffered from depression — her immediate reaction is one of anger. Friends (notably Sarah Goldberg as colleague Claire) and neighbors (Vondie Curtis Hall’s Mel) offer support, but Beth fends them off, preferring to process bitter grief alone, with a drink or 10.

Yet while she may feel abandoned, she doesn’t actually feel alone, as disturbances...

‘The Night House’ Review: A Haunted Rebecca Hall Carries One of the Loudest Horror Movies Ever Made
David Bruckner
Once you have your first brush with Death, it can seem like it’s always calling to you from the far shore of the river Styx. After dodging a bullet or losing a loved one, you might hear Charon the ferryman whispering in your ear from time to time, beckoning you to cross over; to come back to the void; to embrace the eternal.

That’s just one of the fun thoughts that may be running through your mind during the first minutes of David Bruckner’s horror movie “The Night House,” a grief-stricken portrait of unraveling that begins with a small, empty dinghy bobbing against a dock on the shores of an idyllic New York lake. A path leads up to the beautiful home that Owen (Evan Jonigkeit) built for his wife a few years back — a house that has started to seem considerably bigger in the days since...

Is There a Political Reason Twitter Won’t Do More to Combat White Supremacy?
Since President Trump took office, Republicans have accused social media platforms of bias against conservative users. But according to a new report from Motherboard, Twitter has avoided censoring white supremacists out of fear that it could impact the accounts of Republican politicians.

The report cites a March 22nd meeting at Twitter during which it was explained to attendees that accounts like those of Arabic language broadcasters may inadvertently be flagged in the course of the platform ridding itself of Isis propaganda. Twitter hasn’t made the same commitment to rid itself of white supremacist content,...

NBC News Reporter Blames Fox News for Suspect Mail Bomb Attacks
NBC News reporter Ben Collins blamed Fox News and the conservative media after a series of suspected package bombs were sent to a number of high-ranking politicians, including former President Obama and Hillary Clinton.

“There will be a rush to pin these mailbombs on extremist talking points from fringe websites like 4chan and Qanon-adjacent communities on Reddit and Facebook,” said Collins in a tweet Wednesday. “But Soros, Obama and the Clintons have been viewed as the root of all evil on talk radio and Fox News for over a decade.”

“Extremist talking points may get workshopped on fringe sites, but they’re platformed on and reach the most dupes on Fox News. Never forget that Sean Hannity was literally tying Hillary Clinton to actual Satanism three days before the 2016 election,” Collins continued, and linked to piece he wrote for the Daily Beast about how Fox News host Sean Hannity claimed the Clinton campaign “worshiped Satan.

As QAnon Goes Mainstream, Trump’s Rallies Are Turning Darker
President Trump was in Tampa, Florida, Tuesday night to support Rep. Ron DeSantis’ campaign for governor. After his speech concluded, his supporters dutifully harangued CNN’s Jim Acosta, whom Trump famously rebuffed as “fake news” during a press conference in London last month.

Just a sample of the sad scene we faced at the Trump rally in Tampa.
