Fifteen countries represented amongst the 18 individuals.

European producers platform Ace Producers has selected 18 producers for the latest edition of its Ace Producers’ Network programme, running in 2022 and 2023.

The 18 producers include Nadim Cheikhrouha of France’s Tanit Films, who will produce Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania’s next feature Mime. Cheikhrouha and Ben Hania secured an Oscar nomination for best international feature film last year for The Man Who Sold His Skin.

The top prize went to a family drama set entirely in an Ikea.

Croatian family drama Leave The Door Open has won the Eurimages Co-production Award, worth €20,000, at the closing of International Film Festival Rotterdam’s IFFR Pro Days and CineMart co-production market.

The film will mark the feature directorial debut of Judita Gamulin and is set entirely in an Ikea furniture store in Zagreb.

With early backing from the Croatian Audiovisual Centre (Havc), the production aims to close financing in 2023 and shoot in 2024. Leave The Door Open is produced by Rea Rajcic, who is producing through her Zagreb-based film and TV outfit Eclectica.

Producers on the Move, a networking forum for up-and-coming producers from Europe, takes place as a virtual event this week. The organizer, European Film Promotion, has given Variety exclusive access to the projects the producers are pitching to sales companies.

20 up-and-coming producers have been selected for the European Film Promotion’s (Efp) networking platform Producers on the Move, which this year will take place online after the Cannes Film Festival was postponed.

This year’s iteration will go ahead independent of Cannes on its original dates – May 11-15, 2020 - and will include online speed meetings, roundtable sessions, case studies, and talks with experts.

European Film Promotion’s networking program Producers on the Move will take place as a digital edition on its original dates – from May 11 to 15 – and independently of the Cannes Film Festival, which has been postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Twenty up-and-coming European producers will meet online and present their projects in speed meetings and roundtable sessions. A case study as well as talks with experts will round out the program.

Fares Fares thriller The Nile Hilton Incident gets top grant of $1.3m while Ben Kingsley and Theo James thriller also among those backed.

The Swedish Film Institute has revealed the 29 projects to receive support in its latest round of funding.

The projects include Per Fly’s (Manslaughter) new political thriller, a transgender drama, a documentary about a female boxer and a murder thriller starring Fares Fares.

The old adage of ‘leaving them wanting more’ was certainly on display at the Works In Progress pitches at Goteborg’s Nordic Film Market this year (full line-up below).

The most-anticipated pitch of the session was Johannes Nyholm’s feature debut The Giant. The director showed several scenes from the film, but refrained from showing footage of the fantastical Giant as he said the VFX was still being worked on.

Also holding back were the producers of Cold Case Hammarskjold, the latest provocative documentary from Mads Brugger (of The Ambassador and The Red Chapel fame), about the death of Swedish diplomat and author Dag Hammarskjold.

Co-producer Andreas Rocksen said the filmmakers had a new theory about how Hammarskjold’s plane went down in 1961, but he said the theory won’t be revealed until the film is ready.

More than 40 Nordic films and works in progress will be presented at the fruitful Nordic Film Market in Goteborg, which runs Feb 4-7 during to the Goteborg Film Festival (Jan 29 - Feb 8).

Often a productive staging post for impressive upcoming regional features and emerging talent, the 2016 lineup includes 17 finished features and 20 works in progress, plus eight titles presented as part of the Nordic Film Lab Discovery programme.

The works-in-progress presentations (see full list below) include ten debut films from the likes of A Royal Affair screenwriter Rasmus Heisterberg, viral hit Las Palmas director Johannes Nyholm, Force Majeure actress Fanni Metelius and Cannes Cinefondation alumni Juho Kuosmanen and Shahrbanoo Sadat.

The 2015 Moet British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) were held at Old Billingsgate Market in London on Dec 6, where Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Lobster led the nominations with seven nods.

But it was sci-fi Ex Machina that won the night, with four awards including Best British Independent Film. Full report here.

Film4 has received a total of 41 nominations for the films it has backed at this year.s British Independent Film Awards, including six for Justin Kurzel's Macbeth.

Macbeth is in contention for best British independent film, best director, lead actor Michael Fassbender, lead actress Marion Cotillard, support actor Sean Harris and cinematographer Adam Arkapaw.

The film will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video in an exclusive streaming deal negotiated by the Us distributor, the Weinstein Co. According to one report that deal is worth $US4 million.. Macbeth opens in limited theatrical release in the Us on December 4.

Another film co-produced by See-Saw Films, Slow West, scored a nomination for John Maclean as best debut director.

Yorgos Lanthimos’s The Lobster topped this year’s Moet British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) nominations, which were presented in London this morning (Nov 3) by Gemma Chan and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.

The film garnered seven nods including Best British Independent Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Producer of the Year.

Andrew Haigh’s 45 Years and Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth both received six nominations each, receiving acting nods for stars Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay for the former, and Marion Cotillard and Michael Fassbender for the latter.

Asif Kapadi’s documentary Amy, which told the story of the late singer Amy Winehouse, received five nominations, as did John Crowley’s period drama Brooklyn.

Ben Wheatley’s High-Rise and Sarah Gavron’s Suffragette each received four nominations.

Ruben Östlund’s family drama leads the pack with six Guldbagge Awards.

Ruben Östlund’s Force Majeure (Turist) may have missed out on the shortlist for the Best Foreign Language Academy Award but it cleaned up at last night’s Swedish Oscars - the Guldbagge Awards.

The ceremony, held by the Swedish Film Institute at Cirkus in Stockholm, saw Östlund’s family drama pick up six Guldbagge (Golden Beetle) prizes including best film, director, supporting actor, screenplay, cinematography and editing.

The Sweden-France-Norway co-production debuted at Cannes 2014 and centres on a family who come under strain after staring down an avalanche in the French Alps.

Mikael Marcimain drama leads pack; Ruben Ostlund, Roy Andersson films follow.

With 13 nominations, Gentlemen, Mikael Marcimain’s adaption of the novel by Klas Östergren, has become one of the most nominated films in the history of Sweden’s national film awards, the Guldbagges.

Ruben Östlund’s Force Majeure (Turist) follows with ten nominations, while there are seven nominations for Venice Golden Lion winner A Pigeon Sat on a Branch Reflecting on Existence (En duva satt på en gren och funderade på tillvaron) by Roy Andersson.

A jury of 45 members voted in a secret ballot for the nominations in the main categories.

The Guldbagge Awards ceremony will be held on 26 January, 2015, in Stockholm.

The nominations for the 27th European Film Awards have been announced at the Seville European Film Festival.

More than 3,000 European Film Academy members will now vote for the winners, who will be presented during the awards ceremony on Dec 13 in Riga.

Ruben Östlund’s Force Majeure, Pawel Pawlikowski’s Ida, Andrey Zvyagintsev’s Leviathan, Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac Director’s Cut - Volume I & II and Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s Winter Sleep will compete for European Film, with every director - apart from von Trier - up for European Director alongside Steven Knight for Locke and Paolo Virzi for Human Capital.

Roger Michell’s Le Week-End is up for European Comedy, alongside Paco León’s Carmina & Amen and Pierfrancesco Diliberto’s The Mafia Only Kills in the Summer.

Ruben Östlund’s Force Majeure has been chosen to compete for an Academy Award nomination as Best Foreign-Language Feature.

The fourth feature from director-writer Östlund, Force Majeure (Turist) world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section receiving the jury prize.

The film centres on a family on holiday at a ski resort and the dynamics between them in the wake of an avalanche.
