Back in 1968, George A. Romero made his feature directorial debut with one of the greatest horror movies ever made, Night of the Living Dead – and while doing so, he also introduced the world to flesh-eating ghouls that became a new definition for the world “zombie.” Romero, who passed away in 2017, went on to make several more zombie movies over the decades… and recently, his daughter Tina Romero revealed that she’s making her own feature directorial debut with a zombie movie called Queens of the Dead. That movie had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last month – and won the Audience Award for Best Narrative Film there! Now, Deadline reports that it has secured North American distribution through Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) and the Shudder streaming service. Linda Lavin’s final role on television will be in “Mid-Century Modern” this Friday, so her co-stars and the sitcom creators made sure to honor the late star at their Hulu premiere on Tuesday.
“Linda Lavin was the most joyous, gracious, amazing person that you’d ever want to meet. She worked from the age of 5 to 87 and went out blazing like the star she was,” Nathan Lee Graham told TheWrap. “She truly was a pro at everything. This woman did everything: she could play the piano; she could sing; she could act, comedy, drama equally as well. She was a light. I call her the spiritual showrunner of our show. She’s the glue, she keeps us going. She’s the puppetmaster, she’s doing all of this tonight. So, she’s here.”
The Tony Award winner and Emmy-nominated actress died in December at age 87 from complications of lung cancer before Season 1 had wrapped.

As one of the biggest contemporary interdisciplinary artists in the world, it's hard to remember a time when Ariana Grande wasn't a household name. In 2024 alone, she released seventh studio album "Eternal Sunshine" to a red hot commercial reception and solid reviews from critics, before turning in an Academy Award-worthy performance in the blockbuster Universal Pictures musical adaptation "Wicked," which is nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.
Grande's rise in popularity over the past decade has indeed been something to behold, given that she was once one of countless child stars struggling to break into the mainstream entertainment industry. After making her Broadway debut in the musical "13," this lifelong theater kid would find success on the Nickelodeon network before breaking out into a solo recording career that would turn her into a global icon virtually overnight. Joshua Jackson is “waging a one-man war” to greenlight a Broadway-themed episode for his hit ABC series “Doctor Odyssey.”
It’s not that Jackson, who executive produces and stars as Dr. Max Bankman, is particularly eager to sing — though he says coming up with little ditties has helped him learn the show’s complex medical jargon. Jackson is not really excited about dancing either: he and co-star Sean Teale (who plays nurse Tristan Silva) laugh, bemused, when the conversation during a special FYC screening of the show in Los Angeles turns to their dance-off (set to “Despacito”) in the pilot episode.
“We didn’t do a lot of dancing after that,” Jackson said, laughing. “I think they saw the dailies of me dancing and they thought, ‘That’s enough of that.’”

There are some more big guest stars in Doctor Odyssey season 1, episode 7. Take a look inside what to expect during “Gay Week.”
Of course, we need to talk about that shocking ending to episode 6. This love triangle isn’t really a love triangle after all. It’s more like a throuple, with Avery making it clear in the promo for episode 7 that while they said it would be a one-time thing, she doesn’t really want that to be the case.
With the way both men feel about her, it wouldn’t be surprising if they both said yes to the idea. However, will their feelings for Avery cause problems between the men? Or will they end up building a budding friendship between them?

“Welcome aboard The Odyssey.”
On Wednesday, Ryan Murphy, Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken asked audiences to investigate the macabre with their FX horror series, “Grotesquerie.” Shifting gears towards the more pleasant side of humanity, the same series creators premiered a new medical drama the following night called “Doctor Odyssey.” Starring Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman, his Yale-educated doctor is tasked with handling emergency medical cases aboard a luxury cruise ship.
In the opening few minutes of the show’s premiere, Dr. Bankman is introduced getting dressed for his first day of work to the tune of Smokey Robinson’s “Cruisin’.” Taking on a new job can often be an intimidating endeavor, but this doctor likes to wear Hawaiian shirts, and you just know he’s easygoing. Post-covid, he traverses the next phase of his life by boarding The Odyssey, a beautifully designed and cultured cruise liner filled with honeymooners and vacationing retirees.

It's become something of a Ryan Murphy fall on the small screen. The prolific producer who's brought us such generation-defining hits as Popular, Nip/Tuck, Glee, and American Horror Story has debuted quite a bit of new content this fall on Netflix and beyond.
First up, American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez made its premiere on FX and Hulu on Sept. 17, which led right into the Sept. 19 premiere of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix. Since they arrived, both shows have been generating headlines, with Monsters rising to the peak of Netflix's most popular shows ranking and creating a lot of conversation online.
Next on Murphy's continued domination of television this season, two high-profile shows arrive on the same exact week. The brand-new horror series Grotesquerie will send a chill down your spine the day before the new procedural drama Doctor Odyssey sets sail. But where can...

The medical drama Doctor Odyssey is setting sail in the fall of 2024, and it's already accomplishing something that neither Grey's Anatomy nor Chicago Med intentionally did during their first (or subsequent) seasons. Nina West can thank a phone call from friend Zelda Williams for her biggest acting opportunity to date.
“Zelda Williams calls. ‘My friend has you on their vision board for this movie. Would you be Ok if I introduced you?’” recalls West, the drag queen who is also known as Andrew Levitt.

Not all actors enjoy watching themselves on-screen — Adam Driver famously walked out of an interview with NPR's Terry Gross when she played a clip of one of his scenes from "Marriage Story," to present the most extreme example. Apparently, Mayim Bialik also hates watching her own performances, and that includes her nine-season run on the hit CBS sitcom "The Big Bang Theory."
Bialik talked to The Metro UK in June 2020 — roughly one year after "The Big Bang Theory" concluded after 12 seasons — about her career and made a surprising admission: she's watched very little of the show that revived her career. "I've never seen most of the episodes," Bialik revealed. "I don't watch myself on television. I've never sat and watched an episode of our show, ever."
Obviously, Bialik isn't being entirely literal here; during the filming process, she ended up watching scenes that featured her. What the actress meant...

Borderlands movie breaks records with a disappointing 9% Rotten Tomatoes score, disappointing many involved. Cate Blanchett and eight other actors set personal record lows with their involvement in Borderlands. Director Eli Roth sees Borderlands as his worst-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes, with only a 9% rating.
Borderlands' Rotten Tomatoes score breaks several records, just not in the way everyone involved would have hoped. The first-ever live-action adaptation of 2K and Gearbox's popular video game franchise attracted top talent from across Hollywood. Lionsgate eventually landed Eli Roth as the director, with Cate Blanchett and others headlining Borderlands' cast of characters. The talent involved even grew through the movie's reshoots, which brought Deadpool's Tim Miller aboard to handle the additional photography. All this was done in the hopes that the Borderlands' reviews and the general response would be favorable, leading to a box office hit franchise.

Many video game fans will know that Borderlands is one of the most beloved action games of all time. Currently, there are four main games in the series, as well as some spin-offs and crossovers, but regardless of that, the series is undoubtedly one of the more popular ones.
In light of the recent successes of video game adaptations, a Borderlands movie was demanded by fans, and we now know that the movie is coming out today, but it seems that most fans will be disappointed, wishing that the movie – at least in this format – had never been made.
Namely, ahead of the US premiere of the Borderlands movie, which is happening today – on August 9, 2024 – the first critics’ reviews (for those who’ve seen the previews) are in and the critics have absolutely destroyed the movie, and it seems that the first audience reactions are also very disappointing.
