Meta Horror Comedy Slasher Remake 'WeedHacker Massacre' Trailer
Image
"We are trying to finish this film, but our actors & crew keep disappearing." A wacky trailer is out for an indie horror film creation called The WeedHacker Massacre, which will be premiering later this month at the 2025 Golden State Film Festival in Los Angeles, CA. Comedy and horror as a doomed film crew tries to remake another horror remake. A meta horror riff on trying to make indie horror film where more horror happens. Created Allen Danziger, and directed by Jody Stelzig. A horror comedy about the college student Willie Wonder who drove 13 coeds out to the Earth Wind Music Fest in Red Eye, the illegal weed capital of Texas. Protected by his amazing Jheri-Curl hair, he survives after being shot in the head. The WeedHacker Massacre stars David Treviño, Molly Sakonchick, Bobbie Grace, Sean Reyna, Parrish Randall, and featuring Allen Danziger as Sheriff Danzinshoos. Even this trailer is meta...

‘Texas Chain Saw Massacre’ Actor Allen Danziger Returns with Meta Horror-Comedy ‘The WeedHacker Massacre’
Image
50 years after The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Allen Danziger is back with a massacre of a different kind in The WeedHacker Massacre.

Danziger, who played Jerry in Tobe Hooper‘s 1974 classic, co-created the new horror-comedy with writer Ray Spivey. He also appears in the movie as Sheriff Danzinshoos and serves as executive producer.

In the meta slasher, the cast and crew of The WeedHacker Massacre boldly attempt to film their movie where a series of gruesome unsolved murders occurred 10 years ago. Bad acting, bounced payroll checks, and the masked killer’s return threaten what is surely to become their worst movie ever.

Directed by stunt performer Jody Stelzig, the film stars David Treviño, Molly Sakonchick, Bobbie Grace (“Fear the Walking Dead”), Sean Reyna, and Parrish Randall (Circus of the Dead).

Currently seeking distribution, The WeedHacker Massacre will premiere at the Golden State Film Festival on February 20 at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Tobe Hooper
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre house has been sold, one more event to be held there
Tobe Hooper
For years, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre house set on the same plot of land it was located on when director Tobe Hooper and his cast and crew filmed the movie there in 1973. The road running past it was closed off, but civilization was closing in on it. The land where the house used to be is now taken up by a mixed-use development called La Frontera – but back in the ’90s, the house was sold and moved approximately sixty miles from Round Rock, Texas to Kingsland, Texas… where it was turned into the Grand Central Cafe and Club Car Bar, which sits on the grounds of the Antlers Hotel. Many Texas Chainsaw Massacre fan events have been held at the house over the years. But unfortunately, it has now been sold again and its future is uncertain.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre cast member Allen Danziger took to Instagram to...

No One Can Stand Up Against the Circus of the Dead: A Movie Review
*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Bloody Bill Productions. Director: Billy 'Bloody Bill' Pon. Writers: Lee Ankrum and Billy 'Bloody Bill' Pon. Cast: Bill Oberst Jr., Parrish Randall, Chanel Ryan and Roger Edwards. Circus of the Dead is an indie horror film from first time feature director Billy Pon. Pon utilizes some great make-up effects and interior shooting, in his debut. However, the film's story falters as it deals uncompellingly with morality. Evil greatly overpowers good, thanks to actor Bill Oberst Jr.'s performance as the murderous Papa Corn and the script. Other characters fall by the wayside, with Papa Corn dicing his way through the cast. Conflict is minimized by the inability of other characters to subdue this murderous beast. And, Circus of the Dead suffers from a lack of strong antagonism between characters. The story begins with the circus coming to town. Usually,...

Event Report and Image Gallery: Bizarre AC II
Bizarre AC II took place June 13-15 at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, and Dread Central went down-the-shore to check it out! Here's our event report plus an overflowing image gallery.

Having traveled to different conventions across the country, I am always searching for that old-school vibe I felt back in the 90’s. I would go to every NYC Weekend of Horrors starting at the age of 14 with my horror-loving father, Joseph Buckley (a man who used to buy Don Post Frankenstein masks from Famous Monsters to scare the kids with in the Heights of Jersey City but would not get the Monster inked on him while in the Navy because he thought it would upset his dad).

Bizarre AC II had that feeling… the feeling of the old ways, the old time when horror was new and everything you saw was not readily available from an online chain store.

Exclusive: Director Josh Vargas Talks Summer of Saw
We told you about the new docudrama that's based upon one of the most infamous films of all time, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, a couple of days ago; and now director Josh Vargas has shed some light on what to expect from Summer of Saw.

"The movie that we're doing with Marilyn [Burns] about the making of Texas Chain Saw Massacre is a feature film, not a documentary," says Vargas. "There are more than a handful of good TCM docs out there, including one that I know is on the way. There would be no point in us doing one too. Rather, we feel that the best way to really bring the audience into that story is with a feature film. This is something that Marilyn, Parrish, Jason, and myself have been working on for about six months but wasn't something we felt we should talk about until all of...

Larry Wade Carrell Talks Writing, Directing, and Acting in Jacob; DVD/Blu-ray Release Info and Exclusive Clip
At Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012, I stumbled across a little movie called Jacob (review here), and it completely blew me away. For a completely independent picture made for extremely little money, it packed an emotional punch that few mainstream horror films can pull off.

Truth be told, I've paid to see movies in the theater that display less skill and power than Jacob, and that's a damn shame, but finally someone was wise enough to pick up this gem for distribution, and as of April 16th, Jacob is out on DVD and Blu-ray for your viewing pleasure courtesy of Kino Lorber's Horizon Movies.

Jacob had a return performance at this year's Texas Frightmare Weekend to celebrate its release, and I sat down with main man Larry Carrell to chat about writing, directing, and acting in the film.

Indie Horror Month 2013: Dig the Twisted Details on In a Madman's World
Indie director Josh Vargas had decided to make his latest flick into one helluva memorable experience. Check out the details below, as described by Vargas himself, about the twisted subject matter of In a Madman's World.

About In A Madman's World

"The movie I just finished, called In a Madman's World, is based entirely on the Dean Corll/Wayne Henley/David Brooks serial killings of the early 1970's in Houston, TX," Vargas said. "The film will be told from the perspective of 15-year old, Wayne Henley, who, with another teenager, led teenage boys into the hands of, Dean Corll, a sexual sadistic serial killer.

"I researched the case for two years before I wrote the script and shot the movie. I've acquired and studied the entire case file and read the entire court transcript. I've spent over 50 hours interviewing Wayne Henley in prison and have two year's worth of written Q&A sessions with him.

Exclusive Interview: Actor Parrish Randall Vs. Brian S
Parrish Randall is a Texas actor who has a lot of cool stuff going on. He’s part of the team putting together the “Don’t Look in the Basement” remake together and he recently got to work on one of the Chillerama segments that we’ll be seeing this fall. Randall talks about his filming experiences and a few more upcoming projects in the works. Check out my latest Versus with actor and all around cool guy Parrish Randall.

Brian S- First off, how'd you get into acting and filmmaking?

Parrish Randall- I grew up watching the old classics on TV...you know, the Bogie, Jimmy Stewart, John Garfield type of films and was always mesmerized that the medium of film could take the viewer on adventures for two hours that one could never imagine going on. Pretty cool, I thought, even at six years old watching these films.

Kodie (Review)
2010 - 71 mins. - Not Rated

D: Abel Berry

C: Jayson Champion, Jennifer Stone, Abel Berry, Alan Rowe Kelly, Parrish Randall, James Furey

A team of paranormal investigators find themselves having to deal with a murderous girl dressed in a teddy bear costume who has been cursed by a witch.

Watching a film is like an investment. Instead of investing money, viewers are investing their time and their emotions into a story. So a film needs to have a good story and characters that viewers can either relate to or are fascinated by. Kodie has an interesting story that does something original, something different, something unique. Kodie gets credit for doing something bold and out there. As the film unfolds revealing new layers, the story becomes more endearing. Now, if only the main character was as endearing. The film paints this portrait of a character at wits ends and struggling with pursuing his passion.

Exclusive Set Visit: Chillerama - Tim Sullivan's I Was a Teenage Werebear Segment
Dread recently visited the set of filmmaker Tim Sullivan’s latest flick Chillerama and spent some time chatting with him, as well as the cast, regarding his rather gonzo segment of the horror-comedy anthology. Entitled "I Was A Teenage Werebear", Sullivan’s spoof of 1960’s beach blanket flicks, among others, was then filming during the wee hours of November 5th in Sycamore Cove, a state beach just north of the exclusive enclave of Malibu.

“Let me tell you what’s going on,” Sullivan (the man behind the features 2001 Maniacs and 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams, as well as the host of VH1’s recently-concluded reality series "Scream Queens 2") communicated to us of the film, while rehearsing a dance number with a dozen or so actors decked out in luau garb, as waves crashed on the beach just yards away. “It’s me and filmmakers Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End...

Kodie (2010)
Directed by: Abel Berry

Cast: Jayson Champion, Jennifer Stone, Abel Berry, Michael McGibson, Jason Stone

The premise of Kodie is one that might leave you tilting your head a bit; it's the tale of a team of paranormal investigators who go to a reportedly-haunted house and find themselves caught up in a deadly curse involving a little girl named Kodie. The little girl just so happens to be dressed like a teddy bear and she was cursed by a witch, forever damned to eat the flesh of the wicked.

The filmmakers, Abel Berry and Jennifer Stone, were also the stars of the show; Stone portrayed the adult version of the homicidal teddy bear and Berry played Jasper, a local man who is more than meets the eye. Rounding out the cast were other indie horror staples such as Kristen Hall, Andrea Schweers, Alan Rowe Kelly, Parrish Randall and James Furey...

Was Ron Jeremy a Teenage Werebear? Exclusive Promo Image from Chillerama!
Dread Central hit the set of Tim Sullivan’s Chillerama segment "I Was A Teenage Werebear" last week in Ventura, CA, and while a set report is imminent from the anthology film (and it was a crazy, splat-stick visit!), we thought we’d drop the hair-raising (pun intended) teaser image provided by director Sullivan.

Featuring a gleeful Ron Jeremy (he of 70’s porn fame) frolicking on the beach in leather daddy form with a possibly frightened lollipop, the mock cover of a faux 1960’s-era Blueboy-esque magazine was shot by Parrish Randall during the production of the horror-comedy "I Was A Teenage Werebear" and designed by Adam Rifkin.

For those who might wonder what a ‘werebear’ is, as director Sullivan says, “The image pretty much sums it up.”

Stay tuned to Dread for in-depth coverage coming soon.

Shake-Up Behind the Scenes - Don't Look in the Basement Update
In a bit of a sad turn of events we're sorry to report that director Josh Vargas has vacated the director's seat on the long talked about remake of Don't Look in the Basement. Yep, that's the bad news. The good? As of now the project is still very much happening.

According to Vargas, "Due to certain circumstances, and much to my regret, I am resigning from my position as Director of the "Don't Look In The Basement" remake. With the Producers postponing principal photography until May, as well as a few other circumstances, certain prior commitments within that specified time frame have forced me to make this decision, which is not one that I haven't made lightly. To my knowledge, "Basement" is still slated to shoot in May, with Parrish Randall serving as director. We discussed a new option for the script, so it will remain intact, I will still serve as the writer,...

New Don't Look in the Basement Redux Coming from Josh Vargas
Director Josh Vargas (Sway) dropped us a line today letting us in on some pretty cool news -- he's been signed to write, direct, and executive produce a new remake of the S.F Brownrigg film Don't Look in the Basement.

Not to be confused with the previously announced Alan Rowe Kelly project of the same name, Vargas tells us his Don't Look in the Basement will be an entirely different beast.

The upcoming remake is being produced by Parrish Randall and Burton Bailey and will be shot in South Texas at the same exact location as the original. That's pretty badass if you ask us!

"The original 1973 film is one that not only I, but Burt and Parrish hold very close to our hearts, explains Vargas. "This will not be a 'reimagining' or 'reinvention', but a straight-up remake of a great horror film that deserves a shot at a new generation of horror fans.

Grisly exclusive new pics, update on Possum Walk
Writer/director Jeremy Sumrall got in touch with an update and photos (including some exclusive gore shots) from Possum Walk, the rural chiller that, he says, is “about 98 percent complete.” Check out the images from the Texas-lensed Horrorphile Entertainment/Bloodbrick Pictures production below.

“We have one or two dialogue scenes left to film, and then a couple of FX pickup shots,” Sumrall reports. “Little stuff we weren’t able to pull off quite the way we wanted, naturally.” Nonetheless, “The production has gone much smoother than I could have anticipated. I have an amazing cast and hard-working crew supporting me in this endeavor. I’m eternally grateful to each and every one of them for helping to bring my creation to life.”
