While many are concerned that the film is a retread of the original with live actors, our own Tyler Nichols enjoyed the film despite the concerns. He mentions in his review, “There’s always plenty of debate whenever one of these live-action adaptations of a cartoon releases. No matter what filmmakers do, there’s always going to be a sect of people who disapprove. As proven by Lilo & Stitch, I am not one of those people, and simply want the cartoon translated to real life. That means there are going to be some changes because, let’s face it, cartoons don’t have to deal with logic in the same way.”

Following the disappointing performance of Snow White at the box office earlier this year, Disney reportedly put a live-action remake of Tangled on hold and hit pause on other projects in development. However, the fantastic, record-smashing opening weekend of Lilo & Stitch may convince the House of Mouse to once again aggressively remake its animated features.

Disney first started re-imagining its animation classics into live-action features during the '90s, and that trend has only accelerated in the 21st century. The next remake on the horizon is Moana, which features Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reprising his role as Maui from the 2016 original. But that won’t be arriving in theaters until July 2026.

Until Moana debuts, our rankings for all of Disney’s live-action remakes are up to date through the release of Lilo & Stitch.

“Lilo & Stitch” just did more in its opening weekend than “Snow White” made in it’s entire box office run!

It seems “Lilo & Stitch” will be another box office hit for the Walt Disney Company. It’s estimated to bring in almost $342 million globally in the opening weekend. Domestically, it is set to bring in $183 million.

For comparison, “Snow White” brought in about $205 million globally. This was after weeks in theaters and a “re-release” for Mother’s Day weekend. “Lilo & Stitch” brought almost as much domestically at opening as the Rachel Zegler-led flop did in weeks.

To top all that, “Lilo & Stitch” landed the title of the biggest Memorial Day weekend opening ever (not adjusted for inflation), beating out Top Gun: Maverick at $160 million.

Even as Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White was struggling at the box office recently, the Mouse House knew that it could rely on Lilo & Stitch to turn the narrative around. The movie debuted this week to a stellar box office response, breaking Memorial Day records and setting itself up for massive success in the long run. It could even end up becoming Disney’s first billion-dollar hit since Moana 2 last year. The studio has been having a rough time at the box office this year, with Snow White tanking horribly, and its two Marvel offerings — Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts* — underperforming both domestically and worldwide.

Today, Universal and Dreamworks want audiences to open their hearts to the classic story of Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, a would-be Viking king, and Toothless, Hiccup’s best friend and a Night Fury dragon of the skies, for the latest How to Train Your Dragon trailer. Before the new promo took flight online, Marvel fans got a silver-screen look at the trailer ahead of the studio’s new film Thunderbolts*. The footage features classic scenes and characters from the original animated film in live-action, bringing Cressida Cowell’s beloved tale to a new generation of fans.

How to Train Your Dragon focuses on the special friendship between a young and unheroic Viking boy named Hiccup, and Toothless, an injured dragon he nurses back to health. The movies chronicled Hiccup and Toothless’ quest to combat humanity’s prejudice against dragons, the ache of overcoming the loss of a parent, and first love.

Disney must be doing really well with the Disney Store Japan merchandise because they are releasing even more pastel collection plush to the United States next week!  I have been saying that if they brought the asian park merchandise here people would love it, and that seems to be the case.

The new wave will include plush and very popular keychains!

The film started off with a disappointing opening weekend collection earning even lower than Dumbo and the already low projection by the industry. That said, as much as we adore our favorite princesses and cartoon characters, there's something truly remarkable when the artists and filmmakers have free reign, resulting in some delightfully bizarre features. Disney+ has nearly the entire filmography of the animation studio and then some, but here are our picks for just how weird things can get at the house of mouse.

In the cases of "Bambi" and "Dumbo," for example, if you check out the 1941 film "The Reluctant Dragon" (a movie that was itself bizarrely censored for one particular animated detail), you can see animators literally watching how deer and elephants move so they can accurately capture those minute details in designing the titular characters.

Disney is still committed to adapting their most beloved animated films into live-action movies, despite their past attempts receiving mixed reviews at best. Cinderella, which they already remade in 2015, is next on the chopping block. However, according to a new report, the film will potentially be the most unfaithful adaptation thus far. In fact, it won't even include Cinderella. The new live-action Prince Charming movie was announced last October, with Paddington's Paul King developing the film. Chris Hemsworth was also in talks to play the titular Prince, although, that appears to have fallen through. 35 years later, Tim Burton still hasn't beat his own box office record, which he accomplished with his third feature movie. Though he has directed many popular titles throughout his career, even Tim Burton's best movies aren’t known for being blockbuster successes. Rather, they're loved for their signature gothic tone and practical visuals, as well as their weird worlds and unique characters. The director's filmography has some contrasting titles, ranging from great to controversial to middling, and consists mainly of remakes of popular stories and Burton originals.

Universal Studios has released the first trailer for its live-action adaptation of “How to Train Your Dragon,” after the popular DreamWorks Animation trilogy was released in the 2010s. The new movie flies into theaters on June 13.

The live-action version includes many of the original characters played by new faces. Among these are Mason Thames (“The Black Phone”) as Hiccup, Nico Parker as Astrid and Julian Dennison (“Deadpool 2”) as Fishlegs Ingerman. It isn’t even Halloween yet, and Disney Christmas Pajamas will already be released on the Disney Store. Given that the preview indicates “A Holiday Headstart,” I’m assuming that other holiday merchandise will likely be released that day.

In the wake of Keaton and Burton teaming up for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, the Batman star said he “sucked” in the live-action adaptation of the Disney classic.

“I love working with Tim so much, but I don’t think we ever really analyzed why we work pretty well together; we just do,” Keaton told The New York Times in an interview, which Burton was also part of. “I think I let him down on one movie, but that’s just me, and it bugs me to this day. I was clueless on Dumbo. I sucked in Dumbo.”
