It's always a little worrying when weeks go by without word about a new show. Is it cancelled? Is it coming back? Motorheads premiered over two months ago, and despite a positive reception with Season 1 rated fresh at 78% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, Prime Video has yet to renew the show for Season 2. Deadline caught up with the streamer's Head of TV, Vernon Sanders, and discussed their current slate of young adult dramas. They also asked about the status of Motorheads Season 2. While Sanders did not reveal whether the show would return, his comments about it were encouraging. Many shows suffer the fate of lack of completion, but not Motorheads. Vernon revealed that the streamer was seeing some good completion rates, which is always a positive sign. He explained:
"Motorheads has just really sort of resonated with us and struck us. What I’ve been excited to see on that...

When the camera cuts from sputtering engine backfires to the weathered façades of Ironwood’s main street, you feel the pull of two worlds colliding. The debut episodes of Motorheads set the stage with a flashback: a young Christian Maddox hurtling past cheering crowds, his Charger a blur of chrome and ambition. Cut to present day, and his twins, Caitlyn and Zac Torres, are rolling into their mother’s Rust Belt hometown—leaving Brooklyn’s skyline for empty storefronts and the hum of idle engines.
Their arrival hinges on Samantha’s hope to recapture something she lost long ago, but it quickly sparks questions: Can these teens honor a vanished legend while carving out their own identities? The show tees up two central strands—solving the mystery of their father’s disappearance and grappling with small-town expectations that feel as rusty as abandoned factories.

There are times in Amazon’s Motorheads, especially during the Neil Burger-directed premiere, when it feels like you’re not really supposed to have been paying attention. Or, at least, when it feels like the show presumes you haven’t been.
Character introductions and plot developments are prefaced by blaring musical cues to let you know in no uncertain terms how to feel. The dialogue is bloated with exposition: “I mean, your dad just lost her,” a girl says to her boyfriend of his own recently dead mother, as if he might have forgotten. And in case none of that might be enough to redirect your attention from whatever TikTok video you were watching simultaneously, the soundtrack is crammed with recently huge, surely expensive hits by the likes of Benson Boone, Teddy Swims and Olivia Rodrigo.
Arguably, such nudges might be useful, even necessary, given it’s likely some...

Plot: Motorheads is about first love, first heartbreak, and turning the key in your first car. Set in a once-thriving rust-belt town that’s now searching for a glimmer of hope, the series is an adrenaline-filled story of a group of outsiders who form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of street racing, while navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school.
Review: I am not a car guy, but I am a sucker for movies and series that feature racing. I am also a sucker for kids banding together and forging a team to push back against bullies and bad guys. Whether it be The Goonies, It, or even the Harry Potter films, when a series or film can deliver a teen-centric drama without pandering to the soapier tendencies of young adult fare, it can make for a very entertaining watch. So many shows pander to the audience...

"Le's play." "Double it this time." Gravitas has unveiled an official trailer for an indie pool hall thriller titled Break, which is a rather obvious pool reference when you "break" the game at the start. This will be getting a limited theatrical release later in April, though it hasn't played at any festivals. In the film, Eli learns that his absent father was a Detroit pool hall legend. He journeys into the Detroit Pool scene, and must confront the realities and dangers of the game, along with his own demons. Michigan-native actor Darren Weiss stars as Eli, joined by Braedyn Bruner as Millie, Victor Rasuk, Jeff Kober, Patricia Belcher, Caleb Emery, Suzen Baraka, Uriah Shelton, Wendy Braun, and Rick Fitts. This looks pretty rough, but it's nice to see a pool movie again, feels like it has been a while since there was one out in theaters. Check it out.

Exclusive: Uriah Shelton has been cast as a series regular in the Prime Video series Motorheads from writer/showrunner John A. Norris.
Shelton will portray Curtis, somewhat of an outsider and a skilled young mechanic who crafted his motorcycle from scratch. He strives to keep a distance from the world of his older brother, Ray.
As Deadline revealed in late November, the series also stars Ryan Phillippe, Nathalie Kelley, Michael Cimino and Melissa Collazo.
Motorheads is about first love, first heartbreak, and turning the key in your very first car. Set in a once-thriving rust-belt town that’s now searching for a glimmer of hope, the series is the adrenaline-filled story of a group of outsiders who form an unlikely friendship over a mutual love of automobiles. And while some characters will be navigating the hierarchy and rules of high school, others will be racing from a dark past.

DC fans can't decide whether or not the role of Lex Luthor should go to Alexander or Bill Skarsgård, as both of the Swedish brothers may be joining James Gunn's Superman: Legacy. The world is getting closer to discovering who will star in Superman: Legacy as both the Man of Steel and Lois Lane. However, ongoing screentests are also trying out actors for Lex, although it hasn't been confirmed if he will be the main villain or not.
It was recently reported that the Skarsgård brothers, specifically Alexander and Bill, are potentially being eyed for Lex for Superman: Legacy as part of the screentests. To this point, DC Studios has yet to confirm or debunk said casting reports. However, it didn't take long for social media to get into a debate about which of the two Swedish siblings would be the best fit for Lex. Check out several excerpts...

After the success of the 2020 horror-comedy Freaky there's been steady demand for a Freaky 2 in the future, but the sequel to the quirky body swap slasher has yet to materialize. Blumhouse Productions and directed by Christopher Landon, Freaky is a charming, bloody affair that explores the aftermath of high school student Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) swapping bodies with a serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher (Vince Vaughn). Inspired by the story Freaky Friday and drawing elements from classic '80s slasher movies, Freaky is a coming-of-age tale with both heart and gore — which would make it a standout offering within the horror genre in any other year.
Freaky left a subtle hint in the ending as to how the single endeavor could become a larger franchise, or at least get a sequel. Just like Happy Death Day — which has been confirmed to exist in the same universe as Freaky...

Arriving on digital this Friday, June 3rd, from Blumhouse Television and Epix is Unhuman, the latest project from Marcus Dunstan that finds a group of high schoolers on a field trip in a fight for their lives when things take a turn and they are confronted by a horde of blood-thirsty zombies. Co-written by Dunstan and Patrick Melton, Unhuman stars Brianne Tju, Benjamin Wadsworth, Uriah Shelton, Ali Gallo, and Peter Giles.
During the recent press day for Unhuman, Daily Dead had the chance to speak with Dunstan about his approach to the story for his latest tale of terror and how events from his childhood helped inspired him to take the less-expected route with the film’s storytelling. Dunstan also discusses working with his cast and crew and gives this writer hope that The Collective, the intended third part of The Collector trilogy, will eventually move forward at some point in the future after all.

"What is it with you shut-ins and these zombie fantasies?" Blumhouse + Paramount have revealed the main trailer for Unhuman, a horror comedy from Blumhouse Television that is coming to VOD next month. A new film from the filmmaker behind The Collector and The Collection, though this feels much different. A group of misfit high school students must band together to survive when their school bus crashes on a field trip. Relationships are tested once they realize they are being stalked by strange attackers. They must take down the murderous zombie-creatures... before they end up killing each other first. This stars Brianne Tju, Benjamin Wadsworth, Uriah Shelton, Ali Gallo, and Peter Giles. This definitely looks made-for-tv, with a limited budget and derivative ideas, even the "undead" after them aren't that scary. Worth skipping? Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Marcus Dunstan's Unhuman, direct from YouTube: The dead will have this club for breakfast.

Vince Vaughn has decades of experience playing a variety of roles in movies. Yet, he was faced with a unique challenge in last year's Freaky, where the actor had to portray a young teen girl named Millie who is trapped in the body of a giant, middle-aged man. Celeste O'Connor, who played the role of Millies' friend, revealed in a recent interview that Vaughn would often consult her and his other young co-stars on how to play a teenager.
"It was amazing to be able to work with [Vince Vaughn] and learn from him as somebody who is so talented and so respected, especially in terms of comedy, because I'd never done comedy before. So I feel like I just learned so much from him, and also he was very open with us and receptive with all the young people. So it was really nice to be able to learn from him,...

Filmmaker Christopher Landon has made a mark in Hollywood with his unique approach to horror-comedies, with movies like Happy Death Day and its sequel, and 2020's Freaky. Fans have long wondered whether we could be getting a second sequel to Happy Death Day someday. In a recent interview, Landon confirmed that he has every intention of making a third movie in the series as part of a complete trilogy.
"I really, first and foremost, had wanted and continue to want to make a third movie in the Happy Death Day franchise just because I've wrote an idea. I didn't write the whole script, I'm not that crazy. But I had outlined a third movie because I really knew what I wanted it to be and it was sort of the conclusion to it. It was a trilogy for me, so it's a bummer that I haven't had the opportunity yet...

Vince Vaughn looks like he is having fun playing not only a serial killer but also a 17-year-old high schooler while the rest of the cast, including Misha Osherovich in a breakout role, does a solid job creating a fun and unique film.

Interconnected cinematic universes are all the rage these days. Kickstarted by the McU, other studios have also attempted to set up their own "shared fictional world" franchises, from the Dceu to the Conjuring universe. Now, Jessica Rothe, who played the lead role of "Tree" in filmmaker Christopher Landon's breakout hit horror-comedy Happy Death Day and its sequel, has revealed to CinemaBlend that she would like a crossover movie with Millie, the protagonist of Landon's latest offering Freaky.
"That would be so insane and so much fun. I'm down. Here's the thing, like anything that Chris [Landon] comes up with or CinemaBlend pitches it just sounds like a fun, wonderful romp. I think one of the things I love so much about the Happy Death Day movies and what was infused into Freaky, even though it was in such a new and inventive way is those worlds are so fun and filled with humor and heart.

The horror-comedy Freaky released in theaters recently opened to critical acclaim and a healthy box-office showing. The movie takes the age-old Hollywood concept of a body swap leading to all kinds of hijinks and puts a horror spin on the premise when high school student Millie swaps bodies with a notorious serial killer known as the Blissfield Butcher. In an interview, the film's director Christopher Landon revealed why Freaky is like a twisted Disney movie.
"[Freaky] required [an R rating] because, I think conceptually, if you're going to put a serial killer in a shy, co-dependent, wallflower-y girl's body, then you need to pay that off. And I think that doing something that was PG-13 and bloodless, I just think you would lose the impact of it. I've described this movie to people as sort of being like the goriest Disney movie never made because body swap movies are cute. They're always cute.

Filmmaker Christopher Landon, who is behind such horror standouts as Paranormal Activity and Happy Death Day, is back with his new horror-comedy Freaky. The movie features Vince Vaughn as a serial killer, and Kathryn Newton as high school student Millie. In an interview, Newton explained how she was able to convincingly go from playing a dorky high school girl to a decades-older serial killer after her and Vaughn's characters switch bodies.
"We talked about the center of gravity of each character, their posture and the physicality, because they're so different. Millie, she's more like me. I was totally like Millie - a dork in high school who didn't fit in, and I appreciated that she just wanted to disappear. Over a decades-long career, actor Vince Vaughn has played a variety of characters. In his new horror-comedy movie Freaky, Vaughn essays perhaps his most challenging role yet, that of a teenage girl. The movie centers on the premise of a high-school girl swapping bodies with a serial killer. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Vaughn explained that one aspect of the story that will help the audience "magically" buy into the body-swap scenario are the smaller, emotional moments.
"I think [director] Chris [Landon] is so talented at blending comedy and horror. It's a difficult thing to do. So we were putting so many things on its ear and having so much fun. But what I loved the most was that there's an emotional believability that goes throughout [the movie]. ... (from left) The Butcher (Vince Vaughn) and Millie Kessler (Kathryn Newton) in Freaky, co-written and directed by Christopher Landon.
Friday The 13th meets Freaky Friday in the Vince Vaughn comedic mashup Freaky, from director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day). It seems an unlikely pair of “Friday” movies and, really, it is the whole genre of teen horror films rather than just the one film. The parody mines the same comedy vein as the Scream and Scary Movie series but here mixed up with another Hollywood favorite, the switched-body comedy.
When another teen and her friends are brutally murdered, 17-year-old Millie (Kathryn Newton) and the rest of Blissville Valley High School know that the Blissville Butcher of urban legend has returned, just as Homecoming approaches.
Packed with winking horror film and sexual references, the humor is broad and sure to delight fans of high school horror. While Freaky Friday was a family film,...

Who knew Vince Vaughn would be the perfect actor to portray a 2020 version of Tess Coleman, the body swap role that earned Jamie Lee Curtis a Golden Globe nomination for Freaky Friday? Probably only Vaughn himself, who turns in a brilliantly campy performance in Christopher Landon’s body swap horror flick Freaky.
Landon’s best known for merging Groundhog Day with House on Sorority Row in Happy Death Day (as well as writing and directing its sequel). Fans of that movie will recognize a similar approach here, too: mix Freaky Friday with Friday the 13th and you get…Freaky Friday the 13th?

A delightful mutant hybrid of two seemingly incongruous teen movie genres, cheeky Blumhouse satire “Freaky” might just as well have been called “Freaky Friday the 13th.” That’s essentially the pitch for a mashup that’s half slasher movie and half body-swap comedy, delivered with the self-aware wink of Wes Craven’s “Scream,” as a serial killer known as “the Blissfield Butcher” (Vince Vaughn) unwittingly trades places with his latest victim, dorky high school misfit Millie (Kathryn Newton).
Picture this: On Thursday the 12th, Millie is humiliated by the shop teacher (Alan Ruck). On Friday, she settles the score … only it’s not Millie but the Butcher who’s driving her body — and leaving corpses all over school — unless she can reverse the curse before midnight. Co-written and directed by ’80s horror aficionado Christopher Landon, “Freaky” has fun with its premise, and audiences will too — though it’s a shame...

It’s such a perfect concept for a horror comedy it’s a wonder no one has done it before: a hulking great male serial killer swaps bodies with a tiny, dorky teenage girl – chaos ensues. ‘Freaky Friday The 13th,’ as the idea was initially pitched by co-writer Michael Kennedy. In the hands of Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2 U director, Christopher Landon, you get exactly what you expect – a funny, sharp teen romp full of inventive kills and excessive comedy gore.
Detective Pikachu’s Kathryn Newton plays Millie, good natured but scatty teen who is always late for class, often picked on by the mean girls, and who dresses up as a beaver to play the team mascot. She hangs out with her mates Josh (Misha Osherovich) and Nyla (Celeste O’Connor), lusts over hot boy Booker (Uriah Shelton) and tries to take care of her widowed...

Slasher horror and comedy can co-exist, as most recently demonstrated by director Christopher Landon with “Happy Death Day” and its underrated sequel, “Happy Death Day 2U.” That same lightning doesn’t quite strike again with Landon’s latest, “Freaky”; some of the laughs and some of the scares definitely land, but overall, the two genres resist blending into a successful mix.
The unspoken joke of the title is that this movie really wants to be called “Freaky Friday the 13th,” which is not a bad starting point, but the line dividing gory violence and farcical hilarity — which Landon has skillfully walked in the past — gets too blurry for the movie’s own good.
The “Friday the 13th” part involves The Butcher (Vince Vaughn), a brutal serial killer who has somehow simultaneously wreaked bloody havoc on a seemingly idyllic town but also retained urban-legend status among the town’s teens. In the film’s prologue,...

Since starting his career in the 1980s, actor Vince Vaughn has been a part of several successful movies, from Wedding Crashers to Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story. Yet, Vaughn has never tried to cash in on the success of his movies with unnecessary sequels or attempts to start a franchise leading into the announcement that Wedding Crashers 2 talks are officially happening. In a new interview to support his new movie Freaky, which is in theaters this weekend and will likely get a sequel, Vaughn explained his dislike for most sequels.
"I never went and made a sequel to a lot of these films at the time because it felt like we were just chasing a success. ... It just didn't feel like the story idea for the second one was as good as the moment of the excitement that the movie did well. It felt like I'd just go make another movie that was interesting,...

After steering two Happy Death Day films marrying slasher and time-loop tropes together for box office success, the question for writer/director Christopher Landon was, “What’s next?” Add Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse and you’d be right to assume it would be another horror comedy of some kind, but what sub-genre would be injected to give it a unique yet familiar flair? Or better yet: whose script would provide that injection with an overall sensibility he could get behind? Landon didn’t write the first Death Day film after all. Nor did he originate the treatment that became Scouts Guide. So when Michael Kennedy approached him with an idea he hoped to pitch to Blumhouse inspired by those films’ narrative inventiveness, Landon immediately asked to join the Freaky party.
Kennedy’s premise is entertaining: utilize the body-swap concept in a high school setting, but make the adult...
