Alina Habba Accuses Federal Judges of ‘Collusion’ Against Her
Image
Alina Habba — Donald Trump’s former personal lawyer who, a court recently ruled, has been illegally serving as U.S. attorney in New Jersey — accused federal judges of “a collusion” against her.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Brann said last week that Habba “is not lawfully holding the office of United States Attorney” because the Senate has not confirmed her position, and the time limit during which she can serve as interim U.S. attorney without such confirmation expired on July 1. Late last month, because Habba’s interim term was ending,...

Dems Promise a ‘Showdown’ as Redistricting War Goes National
Image
Top Democrats are laying out the stakes of a national congressional redistricting fight, after Texas obeyed Donald Trump’s order to adopt a new, wildly gerrymandered congressional map in advance of the 2026 midterm elections. On a conference call organized by party chair Ken Martin, Democratic leaders justified their plan to respond to Texas’ provocation with an equally brazen redistricting effort in California — to “fight fire with fire,” as Gov. Gavin Newsom put it.

The fight is over creating partisan advantage in advance of the next year’s midterms, which will...

The Case That Divided America: A Documentary About Jussie Smollett Is Coming
Image
Netflix is getting ready to release a new documentary that dives into one of the most talked-about scandals in recent American pop culture, the Jussie Smollett case. Titled The Truth About Jussie Smollett?, the documentary is set to premiere on August 22.

The film will look back at what happened in 2019, when Smollett claimed he was the victim of a hate crime in Chicago. At the time, the story grabbed headlines everywhere. According to Smollett, two men attacked him late at night, yelled racist and homophobic slurs, poured a chemical on him, and even tied a rope around his neck.

The reaction was immediate, with huge support pouring in from celebrities and politicians. People like Viola Davis and Shonda Rhimes spoke out on social media, and politicians like Kamala Harris and Cory Booker called the attack an attempted modern-day lynching.

But the story quickly took a strange turn. Chicago police later...

Senate Judiciary Republicans Push Forward Jeanine Pirro’s Nomination As U.S. Attorney; Democrats Walk Out In Protest Of Emil Bove Nomination
Image
Senate Republicans on the Judiciary Committee voted on Thursday in favor of former Fox News host Jeanine Pirro’s nomination to serve as permanent U.S. attorney in the District of Columbia.

But they did so without any Democrats present on the committee, as they staged a walkout as Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-ia) moved to vote on a slate of judicial appointments. Democrats primarily focused on the nomination of Emil Bove, who represented Trump in his New York criminal case and later served as acting deputy attorney general, to serve as an appellate judge.

Trump appointed Pirro to serve as acting U.S. attorney in May, the latest Fox News figure to get a spot in his administration. She was a strident defender of the president on Fox News’ The Five, which is the top-rated show on cable news.

“Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered...

Ego Nwodim Says Audience Swearing During Miss Eggy ‘SNL’ Sketch “Did Throw Me for a Loop”
Image
Ego Nwodim is confessing that she was “sincerely stunned” when the Saturday Night Live audience cursed during her Miss Eggy “Weekend Update” segment during the April 5 live show.

During a recent interview with Collider, the actress and comedian recalled the shocking season 50 moment when some people in the audience shouted “shit” in response to Nwodim/Ms. Eggy’s question, “Cory Booker out here with his filibuster — shoot, I’ve had my fill of busters. ’Cause these men ain’t what?” While the curses were audible during the live broadcast, they were removed for rebroadcasts.

“We did not anticipate that happening,” Nwodim said. “We ran it at dress rehearsal, it did not happen. If it had, it would have been nixed. Then at air, it happened, and I was stunned. I was stunned. But you see me when they say they guess ‘play,’ I’m stunned, because again, they’re not supposed to say anything.

Cory Booker Blames Both Trump and New Jersey for Newark Airport Chaos | Video
Image
Perhaps surprisingly, New Jersey senator Cory Booker isn’t just blaming Donald Trump for the recent problems at Newark International Airport. During a recent interview on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” the politician pointed to both infrastructure failures and Trump for the much mocked airport.

“So you’re telling me that it’s not necessarily Trump’s fault, this situation we have in Newark?” Kimmel asked the New Jersey politician.

“I’m telling you candidly, it’s both,” Booker said. “We have deferred infrastructure improvements that we should not have. But when Trump came in and Doge and Elon Musk began firing key safety officials for the Faa, began laying off key personnel — one of the biggest issues right now is a personnel issue in addition to the technology issue.”

Earlier this months, hundreds of flight cancelations and delays at Newark caused Democratic Minority Leader of the Senate Chuck Schumer to call...

What to expect from Jimmy Kimmel Live this week (May 26)
Image
Monday marks the unofficial start of summer, which means late-night TV schedules start to become unpredictable. So what should fans expect to see from Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week?

For many shows, the Memorial Day holiday provides a chance to get another week off before things start to heat up in June. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Late Night with Seth Meyers are all of this week.

But that's not the case for Jimmy Kimmel. The ABC host will be back with brand-new episodes this week, leaving him at the center of the late-night TV world for a week.

Don't look for anything new on Monday night, however. Kimmel and his team are off for the holiday, but they will be back with a new episode on Tuesday.

Who's on Jimmy Kimmel Live! this week?

On Tuesday, May 27, Jimmy Kimmel will sit down with U2 frontman Bono.

Judges Consider Managing Their Own Security Force Due to Rising Threats
Image
Federal judges, worried that the president could withdraw the U.S. marshals protecting them in retaliation for ruling against his administration, are considering managing their own security force as threats to the judiciary are rising.

The Wall Street Journal reports that judges discussed the idea of creating their own security detail behind closed doors at the semiannual meeting of the Judicial Conference, national policymaking body for the federal courts, in early March. Security committee members described increased threats in the wake of Trump’s attacks.

The judiciary’s fears of...

Cory Booker: ‘People Want to Know You Give a Shit’
Image
Cory Booker had been railing against Donald Trump’s agenda from the floor of the Senate for three hours when his feet started to go numb. On the lectern he had his cellphone out (against Senate rules), with his family group chat pulled up. Every now and then it pinged with a message of encouragement, or a photo of an absurdly shredded bald dude — the motivational speaker, ultramarathoner, and former Navy Seal David Goggins — instructing him to “Stay Hard.”

Booker’s family read Goggins’ book together back in 2021, his cousin Pam tells me.

Kamala Harris Slams Trump’s ‘Narrow, Self-Serving Vision of America’ in Gala Speech

Kamala Harris criticized Donald Trump in a speech in San Francisco last night, noting that his administration has perpetuated a “wholesale abandonment” of America’s highest ideals.

Speaking at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America, an organization that recruits and trains Democratic women to run for office, Harris took aim at the president’s agenda. During the 15-minute speech, Harris reflected on the fear and anxiety being caused by Trump’s tactics and praised those who have been standing up against them.

Kamala Harris Avers Poll-Sagging Trump Doge Agenda “Is Not A Vision That Americans Want”

Sounding a lot like a candidate for something, Kamala Harris returned to her old stomping ground of San Francisco tonight to warn Americans the apparent chaos of Donald Trump’s Project 2025 fueled agenda is a ruse to distract from the long-lasting wounds being inflicting on the body politic, civil society and the Constitution.

“Instead of an administration working to advance our highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals,” the former VP said Wednesday to the the Emerge 20th Anniversary Gala of Trump’s attacks on the Constitution and the “greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”

“Let us not be duped into thinking everything is chaos,” the 2024 candidate added at the Bay Area city’s Palace Hotel. “It may feel like that. But understand, what we are, in fact, witnessing is a high velocity event. Where a vessel is being used for the swift implementation...

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert shuts down this week
Image
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert announced it twill be off the air this week. The hiatus leaves a noticeable gap in the late-night TV landscape.

Per usual, there was no shortage of stories breaking over the weekend that would pique Stephen Colbert's interest. Another bombshell report about Pete Hegseth, Joe Biden's criticism of Donald Trump, and more stories would all make nice monologue topics for The Late Show.

However, there will not be a new episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday, April 21. The show will be off the air for the rest of the week as well.

The Easter holiday on Sunday likely explains why Stephen Colbert and his team are off this week. The time off should give everyone at The Late Show the chance to rest and relax before getting back to the Ed Sullivan Theater next week.

Update for the...

Menendez Brothers Score Court Win, as Judge Allows Resentencing to Proceed
Image
The Menendez brothers scored a victory in court on Friday, as a judge denied the Los Angeles District Attorney’s move to withdraw a resentencing petition.

The decision means that a hearing will go forward next Thursday and Friday, at which time the D.A. and prosecutors will argue over whether the brothers are sufficiently rehabilitated to warrant a reduced sentence.

Lyle and Erik Menendez have served 35 years for the 1989 murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty, at their Beverly Hills home in 1989. The brothers witnessed the hearing on Friday remotely via WebEx from state prison in San Diego County.

District Attorney George Gascón moved last October to reduce the brothers’ sentence from life without parole to 50 years to life. That reduction, if granted, would make them immediately eligible for parole.

Nathan Hochman, who defeated Gascón in the November election, sought to withdraw his predecessor’s petition, arguing that the...

SNL Cast Members Were Shocked When The Audience Swore On Live TV In A Hilarious Mistake
Image
The nature of "Saturday Night Live" makes it one of the most unique shows on television. It's the only series that airs regular installments live on TV, so the risk is always there for something to go wrong. That could be a simple line flub, a musical guest abruptly leaving the stage at good nights, or something unexpected but hilarious, like the cast breaking during a Beavis and Butt-Head sketch. No matter how tight of a ship showrunner Lorne Michaels runs, the potential for a little bit of chaos lingers.

However, as more audiences have come to watch "SNL" through YouTube and social media clips, they're not always privy to the mistakes that happen in the live show. Occasionally, "SNL" will use a version of a sketch from dress rehearsal, or the show will make an edit in post-production that fixes a poorly timed cut or other easily reparable gaffe.

‘SNL’ Cuts Audience Swears During Ego Nwodim’s ‘Weekend Update’ Bit
Image
A few members of the Saturday Night Live studio audience got a little too enthusiastic during a “Weekend Update” segment.

Castmember Ego Nwodim appeared during the news segment to pitch herself as the comedian to perform at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, playing off the news that the group uninvited Amber Ruffin to perform at the April 26 dinner. After “Update” co-anchor Colin Jost noted that the Whca didn’t want a bunch of political jokes, Nwodim responded that “that’s because every year a comedian gets up there talking trash about the White House, about the media. But no one’s ever just made fun of the dinner.”

With that, Nwodim debuted “Ms. Eggy,” her stand-up persona, coming in front of the “Update” anchor desk to let fly with a series of jokes about food, men and sex. She also did some crowd work, saying at one point, “This is Ms.

Morgan Wallen, Russell Brand and Kid Rock: The Best Burns on Last Night’s Weekend Update
Image
It was another week of fiery comedy barbecue on Weekend Update as Michael Che and Colin Jost mercilessly roasted the week’s newsmakers. Who got the heat? Here are seven of the spiciest burns from last night’s show…

1 Morgan Wallen

Last week’s musical guest got two SNL slaps last night. “Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion,” observed Jost. “Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights.”

But that wasn’t SNL’s only clap back at Wallen, who posted a “Get me the hell out of here” Instagram post after his quick exit last week. In the show’s opening sketch, James Austin Johnson as Donald Trump explained his new tariffs, including charges for “an island that is uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island. Ooh, McDonald Island — I’d love to visit there, right? McDonald Island.

Nwodim introduced herself as “Ms. Eggy,” an outrageous stand-up comedienne who cracked jokes about the menu at the dinner and then complained about her fictional husband and kids.

‘SNL’ Takes A Swipe At Morgan Wallen & God’s Country, Tesla Vandalism & Trump’s “Historically Awesome” Tariffs Speech In Cold Open
Image
A week after Morgan Wallen stalked off Saturday Night Live, the NBC late-nighter made sure the door hit the hit the “I’m the Problem” singer on the way out.

“Get me to God’s county,” mocked Donald Trump (James Austin Johnson) in a direct swipe at controversy-inviting Wallen’s merch-inspiring post-SNL March 29 Instagram of his private jet heading to Nashville and the caption, “Get me to God’s country.” Coming at the tail end of SNL’s ripping of Potus’ April 2 borderline incoherent Liberation Day tariffs speech, the jibe at Wallen’s discourtesy got a roar from the crowd in Studio 8H.

Anti-Trump Protesters Assemble in Every State and Cities Worldwide
Image
Washington — From Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, Topeka, Kansas to Chicago and several of its suburbs, in all 50 states and in many cities worldwide, hundreds of thousands of people assembled to protest against Donald Trump and his billionaire financier and adviser Elon Musk on Saturday.

The “Hands Off” protests included around 1,200 demonstrations planned in advance, according to organizers, with more than half a million people RSVPing to attend the marches and protests, which looked to be the largest single day of protest since Trump took office. Per the event’s website,...

“More Of That!”: Kamala Harris Praised By Hollywood Donors For Ripping Trump & Corporate Capitulation To “Unconstitutional Threats”
Image
Exclusive: “There were many things that we knew would happen, many things – I’m not going to say I told you so,” Kamala Harris declared this week in her strongest swipe at Donald Trump since leaving office.

“I swore I wasn’t going to say that,” the former Vice President added to applause and cries of “say it!” on Thursday at a conference in Orange County.

“About damn time, I would say,” one very political Hollywood heavyweight said after 2024 candidate Harris’ surprise April 3 appearance at the Leading Women Defined Summit. “Harris, Obama, they’ve all been sitting this out too long.”

In that context, a producer who has written many a check for Democrats local and national over the years wasn’t won over by Harris’ latest public stance. “Too little, too late,” he wearily said. “No one wants to hear from her, just go away.” Going away might not...

How Cory Booker Went 25 Hours Without a Bathroom Break: He Explains How He Did It
Image
Senator Cory Booker broke a record with the longest speech ever on the Senate Floor this week by speaking nearly continuously for 25 hours and five minutes.

The record was previously held by Strom Thurmond in 1957.

His decision to speak for this long as a form of protest comes just a few weeks after nine Democrats voted to move a Republican spending bill forward. What he did is generally referred to as a “filibuster,” which usually is a tactic to “prolong debate and delay or prevent a vote on a bill, resolution, amendment, or other debatable question.”

This means that Cory did not sit down or eat during the momentous protest.

He explained how he was able to do it without using the bathroom for 25 hours.

Keep reading to find out more…

He told the New York Times how he was able to go that long without a bathroom break:

Inside Trump and Rfk Jr.’s Health Agency ‘Bloodbath’
Image
The Trump administration gutted federal health agencies on Tuesday morning, as thousands of employees received layoff notices, following Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s announcement last week he was planning to lay off nearly 10,000 workers.

More than 7,000 workers at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services were cut. Staffers with decades of experience received emails at 5 a.m. on Tuesday that they were being placed on administrative leave...

25th Hour: Why Cory Booker’s Speech Was the Screen Performance of the Year
Image
Was it a little like William Wallace’s freedom speech in Braveheart?

Did it contain the drama of Don Larsen working toward that World Series perfect game?

Or maybe the vibe was more Spalding Gray in Swimming to Cambodia, the monologist as circus master.

For those steeped in screen entertainment, the analogies came and fast and furious as Cory Booker took the Senate floor Monday night and Tuesday. Fortunately, he gave us a lot of time to come up with them.

You may not have watched anything but the last hour, or few minutes, or even a second of the Democratic senator’s 25-hour, one-sitting (or standing) opus on YouTube or C-span. Trust me then when I tell you the whole thing was the kind of spectacle that should be eligible for an Emmy, so subtle were its layers and so ambitious the performance.

On its face, Booker’s speech...

Cory Booker Breaks Record for Longest Senate Speech of All Time While Protesting President Trump
Image
Cory Booker has made history for giving the longest speech ever on the Senate floor.

The 55-year-old Senator from New Jersey has been speaking on the floor for over 24 hours and broke the late Sen. Strom Thurmond’s 1957 record, when he filibustered against civil rights for 24 hours and 18 minutes.

Booker began his speech at 6:59pm on Monday (March 31) and he broke the record at 7:18pm on Tuesday (April 1). He’s still speaking though!

“I’m going to go for as long as I am physically able to go,” Booker said as his speech began. “I’ve been hearing from people all over my state and indeed all over the nation calling upon folks in Congress to do more. To do things that recognize the urgency, the crisis of the moment. So we all have a responsibility, I believe, to do something different. To cause, as John Lewis said,...

Cory Booker Shatters Record For Longest Senate Speech In Marathon Session To Protest Donald Trump
Image
Updated, with details of Booker finishing speech: Sen. Cory Booker (D-nj) shattered a nearly 68-year record this evening, as he spoke on the Senate floor for 24 hours and 19 minutes to protest President Donald Trump’s tenure.

CNN, MSNBC and the BBC carried the moment, but Fox News did not.

But the attention that Booker’s speech drew on social media appeared to be something that Democrats have been craving since Trump’s return to the White House: A messenger who can break through the noise. His office said that he drew 280 million likes on his TikTok livestream. He planned to give his first interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow for her 9 p.m. Et show.

As Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced that Booker had broken the record, the Senate chamber broke out in sustained applause.

“Do you know you have just broken the record? Do you know how proud this caucus is of you?...

Cory Booker Rails Against Trump & “Disneyfication” Of U.S. History As Epic Floor Speech Nears Senate Record
Image
Elections in Florida and Wisconsin on Tuesday might shift the political landscape for Donald Trump and Democrats, but it is Cory Booker who has taken center stage.

“This is a moral moment in America, what are we going to do?” the senior senator from New Jersey asked his colleagues and the many watching on C-Span and other networks today as well as YouTube and social media platforms.

Berating the Maga administration and its blitzkrieg polices in a Senate floor speech that has lasted more than 23 hours and counting, Booker is praising M&Ms (a Garden State invention) and naming names — including his own party, Trump and the House of Mouse. (Update: Booker broke the record during the 7 pm Et hour.)

“We have to redeem the dream,” the two-term Democrat said of Trump’s attacks on the rule of law, international allies, Dei programs and outreach, the media, the courts,...

Long Before Cory Booker, Patton Oswalt Delivered an Epic Star Wars Filibuster on ‘Parks and Recreation’
Image
As Cory Booker spoke on the Senate floor through Monday night and into Tuesday morning — an 18-hour address (not quite a filibuster, as no bill or nominee was being debated) attacking President Trump and Elon Musk’s gutting of federal programs like Medicaid and Social Security — it evoked memories of another epic legislative speech: Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars filibuster.

On Parks and Recreation‘s “Article Two” — season five, episode 19, which aired in 2013 — Oswalt played Garth Blundin, a Pawnee citizen and history buff who opposes changing hundreds-year-old local laws, no matter how nonsensical.

For example, once a year on Ted Party Day, a guy named Ted is thrown into the river — all because the word “tea” looks like “Ted” in calligraphic script.

To oppose the measure, holding up a copy of the “Pawnee Charter,” Blundin (Oswalt) delivers a “citizen filibuster” at a city hearing overseen by Councilwoman Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler,...

Cory Booker Bashed Trump on Senate Floor for 25 Straight Hours
Image
Sen. Cory Booker (D-n.J.) said as he began speaking on the Senate floor Monday night that he intended to disrupt “the normal business of the United States Senate for as long as I am physically able,” citing his belief that “our nation is in crisis.”

He wasn’t kidding.

Booker spoke through the night and into Tuesday morning. He suspended his speech at noon for the Senate prayer, but then kept on going. As of 3:00 p.m. Et, he had been at it for 20 hours. He hit the 24-hour mark at 7:00 p.

Joy Behar Wonders ‘How Long’ Will ‘The View’ Survive Amid Trump Administration (Video)
Image
The “Hot Topics” of the day got a bit closer to home, so to speak, on Tuesday’s (April 1) edition of The View. The cohosts began the show by reacting to Elon Musk‘s political stunt of awarding millions of dollars to people connected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, as well as Senator Cory Booker‘s move to hold the floor of the Senate as a sign of resistance to Donald Trump‘s administration. However, it was Whoopi Goldberg who ignited the most impassioned part of the first segment when she talked about feeling like their own liberties were being attacked. After hearing others’ perspectives out — like Sunny Hostin saying Booker was being the fighter the Democrats needed, Joy Behar saying Trump’s third term teaser was just a distraction, and Alyssa Farah Griffin trying to compare regular campaign spending to Musk’s controversial giveaways — Goldberg offered her own perspective.

Cory Booker Holds Senate Floor With Marathon Overnight Speech To Protest Trump’s “Complete Disregard” For Rule Of Law
Image
Sen. Cory Booker (D-ny) held the Senate floor overnight and through this morning as he delivered a marathon speech to protest Trump administration policies.

As of 9:30 a.m. Et, Booker had spoken for 14 1/2 hours, interrupted only when fellow Democrats would pose questions to him and give him short breaks to rest his vocal cords. He said in a video posted before he started that he planned to speak “for as long as I am physically able.”

“If you ask the question, are you better off than you were 71 days ago, not many Americans would say they are better off,” Booker said this morning, his voice still clear.

The purpose of the speech was to draw attention, and Booker did get coverage on cable network morning shows.

Before he started at 7 p.m. Et, Booker said that he was speaking “because Donald Trump and Elon Musk have shown a complete...

Hollywood Studios Are Buying Ads On X Again Amid Elon Musk’s Political Ascension
Image
Last month, X users spotted an ad on the social media platform from the @AppleTV account for the second season of Severance.

The promo marked a conspicuous return for Apple to advertising on X in more than a year after pausing campaigns due to the rise of far-right content on the network that appeared alongside ads and backlash against Elon Musk grounded in criticism that he endorsed antisemitic conspiracy theories. It coincided with a period around the time of his political ascension that saw a flurry of other brands resume or increase spending on X, namely Amazon.

Concerns that Musk is leveraging his influence in the Trump administration have been cited by five Democratic senators, who asked the Justice Department to investigate whether Musk is violating federal ethics laws.

Senators Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Richard Blumenthal, Adam Schiff, and Chris Van Hollen on Wednesday wrote to the Justice Department over...

Bernie vs. The Oligarchy
Image
Written by Myrlia Purcell

Senator Bernie Sanders has a message for Americans:

Bernie Sanders - Say No to Oligarchy

$217 billion for 13 people since the election seems like a lot. But in reality, if it were equally divided, it would only be about $16.7 billion for each person. No, it’s still a lot. One million seconds is about 12 days. One billion seconds is about 32 years. To earn a $billion a year, a worker with a 40 hour week would need to net $500,000 per hour, or about $4 million each work day. And that’s just for $1 billion. Many of these people who have control or influence over the US government have well over $100 billion.

Bernie’s message is not aimed at Democrats vs Republicans. It is a call to action for anyone who has to think about how much housing and groceries cost. It is a plea to join with others who share your common struggles,...

Critics Worry Kash Patel Will Purge the FBI. Would He Even Need To?
Image
At the first rally to kick off his 2024 campaign, Donald Trump played a bizarre rendition of the national anthem in which he himself recites the Pledge of Allegiance while a “choir” of January 6 rioters sing the national anthem. It would become a regular feature at his rallies.

Some of the choir on that recording were convicted of assaulting police officers. The song was released as a single, with proceeds going to the prisoners and their families. One of the producers of that single was Kash Patel, who also established a...
