The Fate of ‘My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ Has Been Decided
Image
The Crawler will keep on crawling through the streets of Tokyo for at least one more season. Today, the popular anime series My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has been renewed for Season 2. The announcement was made after the spin-off series aired its 13th episode in Japan. Along with the renewal, Crunchyroll announced that it will continue to roll out new episodes simultaneously with the Japanese release, and the new episodes are set to debut in 2026. A short teaser was unveiled with the announcement, and you can check it out in this article.

It's a bit early to tell the arcs that My Hero Academia: Vigilantes will cover, but fans of the manga series by Hideyuki Furuhashi already have an idea of which direction Koichi (voiced by Shūichirō Umeda in the original Japanese and by Jack Broadbent in the English dub), Knuckleduster (Yasuhiro Mamiya/Jason Marnocha) and Pop☆Step (Ikumi Hasegawa/Macy Anne Johnson) will go.

'My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ Just Brought Back These Fan-Favorite Characters for Narufest
Image
Ever since its first episode, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes has included characters that are completely familiar to fans of the franchise. Since the spin-off series takes place just a few years before the events of My Hero Academia, it's not surprising that characters pop up sporadically, while some of them participate in entire episodes. This week, the show brought two familiar faces to take part in an event that might end badly.

Since the focus of the show was Narufest — a city-stopping event in which Pop☆Step (voiced by Ikumi Hasegawa in the original Japanese and by Macy Anne Johnsonin the English dub) is slated to headline a musical presentation along with other two acts — it made perfect sense to bring back two characters that are known as My Hero Academia showstoppers: Present Mic (Hiroyuki Yoshino/Dave Trosko) and Nemuri Kayama (Akeno Watanabe/Elizabeth Maxwell), mostly known as Midnight. First 'My Hero Academia' Season 8 Trailer Teases the Beginning of the End
Image
Fans of My Hero Academia are preparing to witness the end of an era. The anime story that has already become a shonen classic is gearing up to debut its final season, and after much anticipation, the first trailer of the final season just dropped. Season 8 of the series will bring the saga of Izuku Midoriya (voiced by Daiki Yamashita in the original Japanese and by Justin Briner in the English dub) and Class 1-a to a climactic close, and it all starts rolling out this October.

There's a lot of ground for My Hero Academia to cover with its final episodes. A couple of months ago, the franchise teased the return of Armored All Might (Kenta Miyake/Christopher Sabat), which signals his final showdown with All For One (Hiroshi Kamiya/John Swasey). The trailer reveals that the last season of the anime series will be chock-full of thrilling moments...

Witch Watch Anime Casts Its Nine 'Trope-tacular' Student Council Members

‘My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ Just Dropped a Bizarre Studio Ghibli Easter Egg
Image
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes can get really unhinged sometimes. But there's a perfectly good reason for that. In the spin-off series, one of the major villains is Bee☆Pop (voiced by Sayaka Senbongi in the original Japanese and by Morgan Laure in the English dub), whose entire purpose is to create chaos in Japan. The villain injects people with the Trigger, a drug designed to dial people's Quirks up to eleven and create instant villains who terrorize the city. In Episode 9, however, the drug reached a new level when it came in contact with an animal.

In the episode, titled "Mom Descends," a house cat gets injected with the Queen Bee drug just when it jumped and landed on top of a bus. The result is... bizarre. The cat merges with the bus to become a huge, four-wheeled beast, and it starts driving itself down the streets and putting...

‘My Hero Academia: Vigilantes’ Just Revealed the Origin of a Major Villain
Image
When My Hero Academia: Vigilantes started, the new spin-off made it clear that the connections with the flagship anime series would be numerous and direct. The very first episode kicks off with All Might (voiced by Kenta Miyake in the original Japanese and by Christopher Sabat in the English dub), just as an example of it. However, fans didn't expect the new show to provide some deeper connections so soon, and this happened in the latest episode. From the looks of it, the show has just revealed the origin story of a high-profile villain — Stain, the Hero Killer.

Even though he goes by a different name (Stendhal) and sports a different look in My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, there are some connections with the My Hero Academia villain. They start with the use of red in his outfit and the character's preference for katanas — a trademark of Stain in the original show.

'My Hero Academia: You're Next' Movie Lands Two New Streaming Homes
Image

Image
We first got a glimpse of him by the end of My Hero Academia Season 7, but now he's poised to return. In a new post by the official My Hero AcademiaX/Twitter account, the franchise started to tease the eighth and final season of the hit anime series and one of the best characters to get fans hyped up is Armored All Might (voiced by Kenta Miyake in the original Japanese version and by Christopher Sabat in the English dub). The superhero was brought front and center in a new poster that showcases his black and gold look. The new season of My Hero Academia is slated to premiere in late 2025.

Much like several other elements of the franchise, the All Might black suit references moments of different superheroes from pop culture. The most obvious reference is Batman, due to his dark look and gadgets, which makes fans instantly think...

10 Controversial Anime Deaths That Were Just Shock Value
Image
Killing off a character in an anime is always a bold choice. However, it isn't always the best choice. Many character deaths in anime are the source of fan disagreements. Not every death is actually needed after all. More than that, sometimes a character dies purely for the sake of shock value. This eliminates the potential they have to better the story in the future. Once the shock value is realized, the emotional weight of that kind of character death is completely gone.

Characters die in anime for many reasons, whether to devastate the viewers or further the plot. Hunter x Hunter contrasts its happy-go-lucky lead with the constant death and danger of the world. Maes Hughes has one of the most iconic deaths in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and all anime because of how beloved his character is. These are deaths that fans might not always like, but they can appreciate.

The 10 Dumbest Things That Genius Anime Characters Have Done

One of the appeals of anime comes from the creative and inventive characters, who often get to accomplish feats and perform actions far beyond anyone in the real world could do. From becoming a superhero complete with a superpower to defending the cosmos along with other Sailor Scouts, these characters get to live lives way beyond the confines of possibility. And with so many different worlds, stories and characters out there, some even have increased intellects, with their brainpower the stuff of legends and envy.

While these characters are blessed with genius-levels of intellect, they’re still human (mostly) and still make mistakes. From Tenya Iida rushing off to confront a known murderer on his own, to Sailor Mercury transforming in front of a villain and revealing her civilian identity, these brilliant characters have done some dumb things along the way, showcasing that they’re more than just their smarts.

The 10 Most Overpowered Abilities in Anime History, Ranked
Image
One of the most entertaining parts of the Japanese anime industry is how far the characters will go to be the strongest, and sometimes, it feels downright unfair as the laws of power scaling and reality are shattered. While it's normal for shonen and some seinen leads to power up gradually with hard work and training arcs, certain characters jump right to the end with seriously overpowered abilities that render almost everything else moot.

Interestingly, it's both villains and heroes who wield these overpowered skills and powers, and it takes some clever writing to give heroes Op abilities without totally ruining the story's tension. In any case, when an anime character has an unfair power, it's a marvel to watch, but the plot must be handled just right so the story can continue when one character is cheating in battle. But when it works, these overpowered abilities become downright legendary...

10 Classic Shojo Anime Tropes Fans Still Love

Shojo anime are stories written and marketed for a young female audience, though they are enjoyed by a wide variety of viewers. While shojo anime covers too many genres to be considered formulaic, there are many popular tropes that pop up in shojo anime. Shojo fans enjoy them in classic titles and in newer releases.

Some tropes go in and out of vogue, but for the most part, they tend to be staples of the demographic, like tsundere love interests and compassionate protagonists. Some newer titles will subvert time-old tropes, or parody them. Either way, there are plenty of shojo titles that include them perfectly in their plots.

10 Dark Isekai Series That Redefined the Genre
Image
While the isekai genre can sometimes be fairly lighthearted, that's not always the case. In some anime, reincarnations lead to new lives that are just as bad, if not worse, than those experienced by the protagonist beforehand. The result is usually a dark series that completely goes against expectations.

The darkest isekai anime and manga change the game for the genre, going against the power fantasy grain for stories that are much bleaker. Some of this involves the harsh reality of the genre, with different elements played straight compared to most isekai. On the other hand, some of these works are simply as tragic as can be, throwing their heroes into increasingly horrible situations that make them wish they were reincarnated as just about anything else.

Kid Goku is finally taking on the Tamagami in the latest episode of Dragon Ball Daima. As entertaining as Episode 6 was for its hilarious bait-and-switch with the 'fearsome' Minotaur and the exciting battle between Goku (Mini) and Glorio, the ending involving Bulma and Vegeta was a real whimper.

Thankfully, Dragon Ball Daima Episode 7 makes amends by having Hybis arrive on Earth to guide the pint-sized Z-warriors to Goku as he explores the Demon Realm. Now, the series is closer to fulfilling the promise of the animes opening theme -- which was updated with a brand-new visual of Kadan, ruler of the Third Demon World, his men and the Minotaur, played by Fumihiko Tachiki.

My Hero Academia Star Defends the Anime's Most Controversial Character: "He's a Literal Child"
Image
It's no stretch to say that My Hero Academia's Minoru Mineta may be the most controversial character in the entire franchise, but Mineta's English voice actor seems to have had enough with the hate that the character receives. Turning to Instagram, Mineta's voice actor Brina Palencia defended the character as "just a child."

Mineta is an often controversial character for falling into the "pervert" archetype, an unfortunately common class of character in anime and manga. Mineta approaches most things with a sexual bent, often harassing the girls in Class 1-a (and even pro heroes) whom he finds attractive. While these moments are often played for laughs, many My Hero Academia fans, particularly in the West, tend to find the character unpalatable at best and downright offensive at worst. As Mineta's English voice actor, Palencia felt the need to address some of the vitriol aimed at the character in a social media post.

10 Most Satisfying Punches in Anime
Image
While there are plenty of great punches in anime, only a few are worthy of being called satisfying. For a punch to be satisfying, there needs to be a couple of conditions met. The character being punched needs to deserve it wholly, and the person doing the punching needs to know it. The more annoying, smug, or even downright evil the character is, the more satisfying the punch. The most satisfying punches in anime come from characters who didn't have the chance to land the punch earlier. Now, however, the situation has changed, and they are ready to give their opponents everything they have coming.

A character can punch another character once or dozens of times, and they can both be just as satisfying. So long as the puncher has a good reason to strike, and the punchee has equal reason to be struck, it can be one of the...

10 Anime Villains Who Overstayed Their Welcome
Image
Ideally, the heroes and villains in anime will stick around exactly long enough to have a proper character arc and do what they must do, then bow out of the story. If a character lingers and overstays their welcome, their character arc will stall out, and they might even end up feeling downright redundant. In other cases, a character may overstay their welcome simply because they're annoying to watch and a little of them goes a long way.

That is sometimes the case with certain anime villains, who stubbornly keep fighting the heroes even after they've lost their most important battle. Some villains keep coming back for more even when they no longer stand a chance against the heroes, or they're so unbearable, anime fans want them to go away after their first battle or conflict. Such is the case for ten particular anime antagonists who felt like they were...

Rory Kinnear in Men (2022)
My Hero Academia: You’re Next review – old-style superhero battle anime with hint of the surreal
Rory Kinnear in Men (2022)
The fourth film spin-off from the daffy Japanese X-Men knock-off beams its dream-like action into a flying fortress where victims are turned into superfolk

‘People are attracted to strength. Power is entertainment,” proclaims wannabe world saviour Dark Might (voiced by Kenta Miyake) in this fourth film spin-off from the daffy Japanese X-Men knock-off. It’s a statement within touching distance of Watchmen-style auto-critique of the superhero genre, especially as this preening tycoon bears a passing resemblance to Alan Moore’s ne plus ultra supervillain Ozymandias.

Dark Might has designs on succeeding All Might, one-time paragon and now out-to-pasture teacher in “foundational hero studies” at Japan’s top hero academy. But the overzealous violence with which he dispatches a wrongdoer rings alarm bells for star pupil Midoriya (Daiki Yamashita) – which are apparently justified when Dark Might tractor-beams him and a bunch of other bystanders into his giant flying fortress.

I Really Hate Dark Might! - My Hero Academia: Youre Next Cast Go Off-Script
Image
Set between Seasons 6 and 7, My Hero Academia: You're Next takes fans back to the series' roots, with the once-vigilante Deku returning to the fold to take on the all-new Dark Might. However, the film throws a twist into the works. Despite Dark Might bearing an identical face to the beloved Symbol of Peace, he couldn't be anything further from that. In fact, he's deemed as "shallow" and "caveman-like" by the hit superhero anime's stars, including Nobuhiko Okamoto (Katsuki Bakugo), Daiki Yamashita (Izuku 'Deku' Midoriya), and Kenta Miyake (All Might/Dark Might).

In this exclusive interview with Cbr, the voice actors discuss their characters and go off-script literally describing their process for grounding their characters beyond the series' canon and even for scenes they would have loved to see in the series. My Hero Academia Creator Releases His First Expansion Of The Series After Its End
Image
My Hero Academia's manga may have ended in August, but the series has just received its first post-series expansion with the release of a new promotional one-shot by series creator Kohei Horikoshi. The new one-shot is designed to lead into the upcoming movie, My Hero Academia: You're Next, which is set to be released later this week.

The new one-shot focuses on Class 1-a getting their hands on Deku's notebook and reading all the notes he's made about them over the course of the series. It's set early in season 7, as Deku is shown wearing his Dark Hero costume while still spending time with his classmates in Class 1-a. Some, of course, are more enthusiastic about Deku's notes than others. The chapter is only 7 pages long, and serves primarily to set up the characters' status before the start of the movie. The one-shot is available on Viz's Shonen Jump app.

20 Best Anime Dragons of All Time
Image
Dragons are a staple of anime, which is why the best anime dragons are so iconic. Few mythical creatures have touched as many imaginations as the dragon, and that's abundantly clear in the realm of anime. Dragons have always had a place in anime since the medium's very beginnings, and though they were relegated to pure fantasy in the past, even that has changed in recent years.

With so many anime incorporating dragons in such a wide array of roles, it's easy to see that anime has expanded the definition of dragon. Anime dragons can act as many things in a story; they may be powerful destroyers, wise mentors on a hero's journey, or distant godlike beings to fulfill wishes.
