Hollow Knight: Silksong has become gaming’s most notorious ghost story. Announced in February 2019, Team Cherry’s sequel has haunted the Metroidvania community for over six years with promises, silence, and the occasional glimpse of gameplay footage.
But the latest leak might finally put an end to the endless “Silksong when?” memes. A credible industry insider has dropped information that could narrow down the release window to a specific month, exactly four months from today as of writing.
New leak connects all the dots and then some
The recent wave of gaming showcases delivered disappointment after disappointment for Hollow Knight fans. Sony’s State of Play ignored the game entirely. Summer Game Fest saw Geoff Keighley deliver a particularly cruel joke, reading a fake letter from Deadpool requesting to “skip that Silksong trailer” before unveiling Deadpool VR instead.

Ryan Reynolds, true to his nature, delivered the most perfectly petty response to being replaced as Deadpool, and it’s absolutely brilliant.
The actor recently dropped a mock reaction video that’s equal parts hilarious revenge and promotional genius after learning Neil Patrick Harris would voice the Merc with a Mouth in the upcoming VR game.
Marvel’s Deadpool VR was announced at Summer Game Fest 2025, but the real entertainment came days later when Reynolds decided to settle the score. His response video is a masterclass in how to handle being “replaced” with style, humor, and just the right amount of manufactured outrage.
Ryan Reynolds channels his inner Doogie Howser for maximum pettiness
The revenge video opens with Reynolds sitting at a painfully retro computer, complete with lab coat and glasses that scream 1989.
He’s channeling Doogie Howser, M.D., the show that launched Neil Patrick Harris into stardom as a teenage medical prodigy.

During Sgf (Summer Game Fest), also known as Geoff Keighley’s Summer Birthday Celebration, Activision went hard in the paint with a reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the next installment of Cod’s sweat-inducing sister series. To close this year’s Xbox Showcase, Activision debuted a dark and stylish trailer for the upcoming video game, featuring a stern-looking Milo Ventimiglia in a voice and motion capture role. In addition to Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka and Michael Rooker also star in the latest installment of the espionage and intrigue franchise.
Ventimiglia will play David Mason, who first appeared in Black Ops 2; Shipka will play Emma Kagan; and Rooker will reprise the role of Mike Harper, also from Black Ops 2. The gang’s all here!
Here’s the official logline for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7: “In Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Treyarch and Raven Software are bringing players the most mind-bending Black Ops ever.

Hollow Knight: Silksongreceived a special mention at the Summer Game Fest 2025, but it wasn't what fans were expecting. The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved Metroidvania Hollow Knight has been teasing fans with a release for months, following a several-year-long silence from the development studio Team Cherry. The game was finally announced for a 2025 release a few months back, and since then, the community has been waiting for a new trailer, a release date, or simply more information about the sequel.
Many expected the Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday to reveal a trailer or release date for Silksong. However, instead of dropping new footage, the Fest name-dropped Silksong in a completely unexpected way, in relation to the upcoming Deadpool VR game. In a Discord discussion, Team Cherry's marketing lead Matthew "Leth" Griffin admitted that the studio had no idea the game was going to be mentioned.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has given us a number of legendary franchises, such as Yakuza and Like a Dragon. However, the studio finally lifted the wraps on its next game at the Summer Games Fest 2025 called Stranger Than Heaven with a cinematic trailer.
Stranger Than Heaven has been in development for a while. Previously, the title was introduced as Project Century at The Game Awards 2024. Fans can’t wait to see what Ryu Ga Gotoku brings to the table, as they believe that the game will bring a storyline that tackles various time periods.
Ryu Ga Gotoku might be planning a big twist in Stranger Than Heaven
If you revisit the first trailer we received for Project Century back during The Game Awards 2024, you’ll notice a few things. The game is set in Japan around the year 1915. The trailer kicks off with a classic black-and-white presentation that slowly shifts toward vivid colors,...

After months of anticipation, the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here! Although one might say that the handheld is lacking in launch titles, Mario Kart World is a perfect way to jump into the new console. With a fresh take on the classic franchise, Mario Kart World is a blast for both new and longtime fans of the franchise.
Mario Kart World’s new direction for the franchise and a number of notable new features have instantly made the game a fan favorite. Even though it’s been a few days since the game’s release, it already has a challenger in the ring, which gamers believe will go down as the best racing game in history.

The Metroidvania community has developed Stockholm syndrome at this point. Six years of waiting for Hollow Knight: Silksong has turned rational gamers into conspiracy theorists who analyze every pixel of Team Cherry’s social media posts for hidden clues.
This week’s gaming showcases promised hope but delivered heartbreak instead. Sony’s State of Play came and went without a whisper of Hornet’s adventure, while Summer Game Fest actively trolled fans with what might be the cruelest joke in gaming history.
The patience of an entire community hangs by a thin “silk” thread.

Wednesday’s PlayStation State of Play already crushed dreams by focusing on everything except the one game fans actually wanted to see. But Geoff Keighley decided that wasn’t enough emotional damage for one week.

This year’s Summer Game Fest had some explosive new reveals like Resident Evil: Requiem and offered new looks at upcoming games such as Death Stranding 2, Mafia: The Old Country, among others. But if we put aside the Aaa craze, the indie titles also packed quite a punch, like Sifu.
Regardless of what you feel about the overall event, Geoff Keighley’s commitment to giving smaller studios a global platform and showcasing their titles at gaming’s biggest stage is commendable.
One of the standout indie titles was a third-person beat ’em up, and Sifu’s influence was oozing from it. Hell, it looked like it could be Sifu’s spiritual successor, too, but either way, it deserves all the attention it can get.

I’m putting everything on the line here, but if Resident Evil Requiem somehow manages to disappoint after yesterday’s Summer Game Fest reveal, I’m personally declaring survival horror dead and burying it myself. That’s how confident I am that Capcom just delivered the genre’s future on a silver platter.
The reveal wasn’t just a trailer drop. It was a masterclass in emotional manipulation that left the entire gaming community questioning their sanity. After months of speculation and leaks, we finally got our hands on something real, and it looks absolutely incredible.

Resident Evil Requiem has been officially revealed as the ninth mainline installment of the legendary survival horror franchise, and it already has a release date. Rumors about Resident Evil 9 have been swirling for a long time, with it purported to be a huge next step for the long-running series.
Resident Evil Requiem was revealed at Summer Game Fest 2025 along with its release date of February 27, 2026. It appears set to feature a brand-new protagonist, and is being held as a "bold shift for the franchise" by Geoff Keighley, host of Summer Game Fest. The trailer shows an FBI agent named Grace Ashcroft being sent on an assignment to investigate a mysterious illness causing multiple deaths. She's sent to the Remwood Hotel, the site of her mother's murder, where things get predictably terrifying and violent.

All of your dreams of being inside Deadpool are about to come true — in VR. During Geoff Keighley's annual Summer Games Fest presentation, Marvel Entertainment kept things R-rated with a new Meta Quest title that lets fans become the Merc with a Mouth with all the foul-mouthed wisecracking and violence that entails. The announcement came with a red-band trailer that captures the same comedic tone of the Ryan Reynolds movies, complete with some serious fourth-wall breaking, chimichangas, and a killer 80s jam in Taylor Dayne's "Tell It to My Heart." The only difference is that How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris is behind the wheel as Wade Wilson this time around. There is no exact release date yet, but it'll be available sometime later this year.

The armies of Westeros will soon be at your command. At Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest, a new PC real-time strategy game based on the events of HBO's Game of Thrones and the novels by George R.R. Martin was just announced with a trailer that ensures "this is not the game you know." Titled Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, it casts players as the leaders of the armies of either House Stark, Targaryen, Lannister, or even the Night King in free-for-all battles where trust is fleeting and forging the right alliances and deceiving the right foes at the right time can make all the difference. Most importantly, though, the show's most pivotal battles can be re-envisioned, and the very course of Westeros's history can be changed, say, to erase Season 8. The game will be available sometime in 2026.

Years after it was first revealed, Arc Raiders has finally set a release date alongside its new trailer premiering at this year's Summer Game Fest. Embark Studios first revealed its extraction shooter in late 2021 (then planned to be a purely cooperative PvE experience), but development resources were redirected to completing and shipping The Finals, which launched in December 2023. Arc Raiders is now set to be released later this year.
Arc Raiders' release date is October 30, 2025, as revealed in a new trailer shown at Summer Game Fest, the annual presentation hosted by Geoff Keighley. The trailer shows off Arc Raiders' cutthroat gameplay and sets the stage for the game's launch. Players scavenge a region known as the Rust Belt for supplies, aiding an underground city called Speranza attempting to eke out a living after the Arc machines have taken over the surface. Mafia: The Old Country just went full nerd mode, and honestly? It’s about time. Hangar 13’s latest developer diary reads like they hired actual historians instead of just Googling “Sicily 1900s” and calling it research.
This isn’t some half-hearted authenticity marketing speak. These developers are out here tracking down century-old knife-making techniques like they’re writing a dissertation.
With 68 days left until August 8, the countdown’s ticking faster than a Lupara reload. And if this research obsession pays off, we might finally get the Sicilian crime story that doesn’t feel like a Hollywood fever dream.
When developers become historians
Most studios would slap some sepia filters on generic Mediterranean architecture and call it authentic Sicily. Not Hangar 13. They’ve gone completely overboard with their research for Mafia: The Old Country, and it’s genuinely impressive how far they’re willing to dig.

When it comes to live-action, Tomb Raider has always struggled to find its footing. None of the adaptations of the character have managed to capture the essence of the video games, and the source material outshines its live-action offspring by a long shot. From Angelina Jolie to Alicia Vikander, the torch carried by Lara Croft has now been passed on to Sophie Turner.
A new live-action Tomb Raider series from Phoebe Waller-Bridge has been in development for Prime Video since 2023, but it was officially greenlit in 2024, and Turner was in talks to star in the titular role. Even though reports earlier stated that the series was no longer moving forward due to issues in development, a now-deleted post from Sophie herself has seemingly confirmed otherwise.

Hollywood has a history of struggling with video game adaptations, and It Takes Two appears to be the latest project stuck in limbo. Hazelight Studios’ critically acclaimed co-op game was announced for a film adaptation three years ago, with Sonic the Hedgehog writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller set to write it.

It’s 2025 now and we still haven’t heard of any progress. Even Josef Fares, the creator of the game doesn’t know what’s happening over in Hollywood to cause such a delay. Maybe it’s the same situation as what happened to Donnie Yen and Sleeping Dogs. We sure hope not.

Let’s be honest; we all know that video games have been prone to controversies. The entertainment sphere has often found itself facing tons of lawsuits and disputes. While gaming is mainstream, it still manages to rile up emotions in the community at times.
Mass Effect is one of the most legendary video game franchises. (Image via EA)
However, one of the most ridiculous controversies we’ve ever seen in the gaming industry was related to Mass Effect and the game’s “sex scenes.” It was clear that Fox News didn’t have a shred of an idea of what was actually happening and exaggerated everything it could to bring a bad light to EA and BioWare.

Whenever we talk about first-person shooters, we can never go past Call of Duty, because arguably this franchise is one of the greatest in this genre. From simplified mechanics and a breathtaking storyline to outstanding realism and an expansive campaign experience along with multiplayer fun, this series has everything.

There’s no doubt that the Og Modern Warfare series (2007-2011) is regarded as the best gaming series not only in the CoD history but also in the entire gaming fraternity as well. There were efforts from Activision to reach those heights with another Modern Warfare trilogy starting from 2019 to 2023, but it was impossible to touch that legacy. However, there’s always an evergreen question, “Is the latest Mw series a remake or a reboot of the Og series?” The Infinity Ward devs have the answer.

The Uncharted movie finally escaped development hell and has the rare distinction of being remembered as the first project from PlayStation Productions. The film has undergone a handful of changes from scripts, directors, and even actors until Sony decided to bet all its chips on Tom Holland, hoping his star power from his ventures in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man would convince audiences to see the film.
While the final product wasn’t perfect, it was serviceable and got the job done. The filmmakers knew that hardcore fans would always be on the fence due to inaccuracies in the source material; however, the producers slipped in a few good easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans to spot.

Beyond GTA 6, The Last of Us Part 3 may be the most anticipated game for fans, and it was expected to be a flagship release for Sony’s PS5. As time goes on though, it’s looking less and less likely, and for a few good reasons. With the success and fervor surrounding HBO’s show, it’s surprising we’re being made to wait so long. Will it make it to PS6 though?
The Last of Us Part 3 is Coming… Eventually
It wasn’t so long ago that Geoff Keighley’s premier gaming event The Game Awards went and blew the gaming industry apart, with fans largely considering it one of the best in years. Rumors and chatter were occurring before the event, with many hearing that Naughty Dog would be making an appearance, and of course, we all thought that’d be with The Last of Us Part 3.

Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight was a massive success for fans of indie titles. The side-scroller was received with high acclaim and cemented its place as one of the games that truly defined the Metroidvania genre. However, in 2025, the anticipation surrounding Hollow Knight: Silksong, the promised sequel, has reached its limit.
Disgruntled fans seem to believe that this game may never actually see the light of day. Announced in February 2019 as the sequel to Hollow Knight, the game has faced numerous delays. Despite all this, Team Cherry seems to remain tight-lipped about its development.

Microsoft and its recent “This is an Xbox” ad campaign have led the charge for the new direction that the gaming industry is taking in the coming future. Microsoft has declared that gaming isn’t confined to a console anymore and with cloud gaming on the rise, anything with a screen could eventually become a platform for gaming.

Helldivers 2 has allowed players to create a lot of awesome and awe inspiring moments in the game. This is one of the game’s biggest strengths and one player may have just give us the biggest one yet. A recent clip posted by Instagram user Shadowvale is so epic that even Arrowhead Game Studios Cco Johan Pilestedt was left in disbelief.

In the clip, a player perfectly used the Expendable Anti-Tank (Eat) launcher in a move that not only demonstrated mastery of the game’s mechanics but also delivered a cinematic takedown of the notoriously tough Charger enemy. Fans are already calling for this clip to be added to the recently announced Helldivers 2 movie.

Warner Bros. Discovery, the studio that owns HBO, wants to focus on franchises; CEO David Zaslav demands it. It's no secret that Astro Bot is making waves, as not only has it sold 1.5 million copies since its release 9 weeks ago, but 37% of players have either never purchased a Sony title, or haven't within the past two years. Developed by Team Asobi, the platformer has seen massive success over this short period, and fans now know just how beloved the title truly is.
Sony recently released sales data that showed not only the number of Astro Bot sales but also the user traits that provided fans with the knowledge that a whopping 37% of players were new users of the platform entirely.
