Five years after 300 and two years before Man of Steel, director Zack Snyder co-wrote and directed a 2011 dark fantasy adventure film that caused a bit of controversy. Now, Sucker Punch, which Snyder co-wrote with Steve Shibuya, is streaming on Paramount+.
Sucker Punch stars Emily Browning (American Gods) as Babydoll, who accidentally shoots her sister during a struggle with her abusive stepfather - who also murdered Babydoll's mother. When he finds out that the mother left everything to her daughters in her will, he takes Babydoll to a mental hospital where he tries to have her lobotomized. Babydoll retreats into her own fantasy world where, instead of an asylum, she is in a brothel and the other patients are sex slaves.
Babydoll makes friends with four other women, namely, Rocket (Jena Malone), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Amber (Jamie Chung), and Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish). Blue (Oscar Isaac), who actually works in the mental institution,...

Since the Golden Age of Hollywood, the film industry has tackled a range of genres, from horror to comedy, delivering audiences a long list of iconic stories and heroes. The Western has proven particularly fascinating, bringing the medium some of its strongest scripts and best-written heroes. One of the defining traits of a good hero of the Old West is endurance and grit, two features key to survival on the frontier.
Western heroes represent some of the most morally ambiguous characters in fiction due to the time's ever-changing morality as criminals could reinvent themselves as lawmen or bounty hunters. Even beyond the Old West, the archetypes established by the genre have laid the foundations of iconic franchises, whether it's Star Wars' Mandalorian or the crew of Firefly. Thanks to actors like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne, audiences have decades of hardened heroes to choose from when it comes to tough Western protagonists.

Grey’s Anatomy’s surgeons are well-known for their medical innovations, but in Thursday’s episode (recapped here), one of the long-running drama’s doctors pushed the envelope culinarily, stitching together a dish that looked so mouth-watering, it rivaled the “Marry Me” chicken of TikTok renown.
Early on in the episode, Jo, who was recovering nicely but still off duty since the trauma that she suffered in the midseason premiere (read that recap), whipped up partner Link a true breakfast of champions: a mountainous meal, the ingredients of which, she explained, were bacon, eggs, cheese and a pancake between two donuts.

With each film hailed as three of the best spaghetti Westerns to ever be produced in the genre, Italian director Sergio Leone’s Dollars Trilogy not only popularized the subgenre due to impressive filmmaking and characters, but it also redefined the entire Western genre for moviegoers. Consisting of 1964’s A Fistful of Dollars, 1965’s For a Few Dollars More, and 1966’s The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, all three films offer an exciting narrative that grips viewers.
At the same time, The Dollars Trilogy constructs tales that range in stakes and whether crafting a revenge plot, a traditional hero vs. villain narrative, or an epic spectacle-filled ride, the storytelling in each film engages audiences throughout. Additionally, every film utilizes exciting fights to heighten the violence.

London’s Mercato Metropolitano food market is opening a studio for TV and movie productions – while still functioning as a sustainable food court – after servicing the shoot of upcoming doc series “The Unknown Chefs” produced by Italy’s Andrea Iervolino and British music producer David Tickle.
The “Unknown Chefs” series chronicling the journey of four cooks who sought refuge in the United Kingdom –- respectively from Syria, Namibia, Nepal, and Uzbekistan –- and then managed to turn the food of their homeland into their livelihoods, will drop March 7 on streamers including Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Iervolino’s Tatatu platform.
Iervolino produced the show with Tickle via his Tickle Entertainment shingle. Tickle is known for his work with artists including Blondie, Peter Gabriel, U2, Prince and Joe Cocker.

While the world is mostly full of nightmares, and looking at any website or social media app that contains the news these days feels a little like cracking open the Ark of the Covenant, there is at least one good thing happening on the planet: two of the former child stars from Richard Linklater’s School of Rock just got married.
The 2003 comedy, of course, tells the story of Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black) an out of work rocker who lies his way into a substitute teacher job at an elite private school, and convinces the kids to secretly form a band with him.
Apart from the fact that Black’s character probably should have been thrown in jail and Sarah Silverman’s supposedly villainous character was 100 percent in the right, School of Rock is a delightful film that mostly holds up today. If you watch those kids playing...

Although the duo don't appear onscreen together in the movie, The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly star Clint Eastwood brought back one of that classic Western’s biggest stars for a later hit. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly might be one of star Clint Eastwood’s best Western movies, but the classic wouldn’t work if it weren’t for all three title characters. As The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly’s ending proves, Tuco, Angel Eyes, and Blondie all play pivotal roles in the labyrinthine plot’s tangled web of double-crosses and betrayals. Notably, Eli Wallach’s Tuco provides consistent comedic relief.

Among the most acclaimed westerns to ever hit the silver screen, Sergio Leone’s 1966 Italian epic spaghetti western The Good, the Bad and the Ugly displays ingenious filmmaking, brilliant storytelling and terrific performances. Hailed for its effective action and vast scope of the Old West, the film manages to craft a tale of battling gunslingers seeking hidden gold all while set during the American Civil War and always keeps the audience engaged. With the sheer amount of unforgettable moments throughout the film, viewers often forget that all films have scenes that get left on the cutting room floor, including The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.
With a master like Sergio Leone, the film still maintains its integral structure and never misses a beat in entertaining the masses, although The Good, the Bad and the Ugly’s few deleted scenes help flesh out the narrative even further. Spread out before...

Multiple controversies related to the wuxia subgenre of martial arts cinema led to the emergence of the kung fu subgenre, which offered audiences a more realistic depiction of martial arts when compared to wuxia movies. The kung fu subgenre of martial arts cinema experienced its first explosion in popularity during the late 1940s and early 1950s through a series of films based on the life of Chinese folk hero Wong Fei-hung. Kwan Tak-Hing starred as Wong Fei-hung in approximately 80 movies between 1949 and the early 1980s.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly quotes help cement the iconic Spaghetti Western in cinema history. It is not only one of the best Westerns ever made, but it also ranks highly in many "Greatest Movies Of All Time" lists and for good reason. Director Sergio Leone created an everlasting masterpiece in this final installment of the Dollars Trilogy. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly's script is terse, but it also includes quite a few great lines of dialogue, ranging from the humorous to the profound.
Credit has to be given to the screenplay team of Luciano Vincenzoni, Sergio Donati, and Furio Scapelli. The starring duo of Clint Eastwood (Blondie aka The Good) and Eli Wallach (Tuco aka The Ugly) also outdid themselves with their deliveries as the juiciest quotes are from conversations between these two. The Man with No Name is one of Clint Eastwoods career-defining roles. The drifter and bounty hunter appears throughout Sergio Leones Dollars Trilogy, taking the nicknames "Joe," "Manco." and "Blondie." The character's adventures collect cash rewards, retrieve gold buried in Sad Hill Cemetery, bring peace to the town of San Miguel, and help eliminate the notorious outlaw El Indio. The hero also exhibits all the characteristics of a perfect Western movie protagonist. He has a quick draw, he doesn't talk much, he is independent, and is known for his moral ambiguity.
While The Man with no Name is great in A Fistful of Dollars and A Few Dollars More, he truly comes to life in The Good, the Bad & the Ugly, where he teams up with the bandit, Tuco (Eli Wallach), and navigates the chaos of the American Civil War to recover a cache of gold that is buried in an unmarked grave.

It is borderline impossible to define the six-decade-long artistic legacy that Clint Eastwood had painstakingly mapped, as his stacked filmography includes everything from certified classics to overlooked gems. Of course, no artist can have an impeccably perfect run, but some, like Eastwood, inch very close to that ideal by re-defining entire genres that will always have a place in cinematic history. Not every good film that Eastwood helmed or starred in made a ton of money at the box office, but artistic success cannot be solely measured via such narrow metrics, as his name is embedded into the public consciousness, for better or worse.
It is tempting to dissect Eastwood's artistry purely through the Western genre — works like "A Fistful of Dollars" or "The Outlaw Josey Wales" capture his contributions succinctly — but there is much more to him than a drawling accent or laidback gunslinging. The actor has often been...

Sergio Leone's The Good, the Bad and the Ugly isn't just the definitive Spaghetti Western, and the pinnacle of the Western movie. It's also one of the greatest and most important movies ever made. Besides cementing Leone's cinematic legacy and Clint Eastwood's stardom, the third installment in the loosely titled "Dollars Trilogy" irrevocably changed cinema and art as a whole. To this day, its influence can be felt in just about any kind of movie, whether it's a Western or not. Surprisingly, this also applies to movies made in countries outside the United States of America, the birthplace of the cowboy and frontier myth. Case in point: South Korea's The Good, the Bad, the Weird.
Loosely inspired by The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, The Good, the Bad, the Weird is far from the first or last Western made in Asia. But beyond the novelty of...

This is a call from Donald Trump to Foo Fighters.
A spokesman for the ex-potus and current GOP presidential nominee hit back at the multiplatinum band today after Dave Grohl and company complained about their hit “My Hero” being played at a weekend rally without the band’s consent.
“It’s Times Like These facts matter, don’t be a Pretender,” Trump’s rep Steven Cheung wrote on X, copping the titles of two Foo tracks.
“My Hero” blared on the Pa during a rally with new endorsee Robert Kennedy Jr. in the swing state of Arizona on Friday, and the band made its distaste — and lack of approval — known soon afterward. Only trouble is, the Trump camp said it has licensed use of that song and so many others from performing-rights company BMI.

The inaccuracies in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly's gunfight do not diminish its quality or impact on audiences. The film's climactic gunfight is crucial to the story and character development, despite being historically inaccurate. The Western genre classic revitalized by the film's dramatic tension and iconic gunfight outweighs historical inaccuracies.
The Good, The Bad And The Ugly is one of Clint Eastwood's best movies, in large part because of a historically inaccurate scene. This film, which is the third in a trilogy about life in the Wild West during the Civil War, is widely considered to be one of the best Westerns ever made. It revolves around three gunslingers looking for treasure in the war-torn American Southwest. The meaning behind the title of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly is far deeper than those being the nicknames of the three main characters, which adds to its depth.

Netflix’s A Family Affair launched at the end of June featuring a romance between High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron and Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman. The main obstacle to that romance is Joey King’s Zara Ford, daughter of Nicole Kidman’s Brooke Harwood.
Zara works for Efron’s movie star — very important distinction from a celebrity — Chris Cole, who fits the stereotype of a high maintenance Hollywood boss. She hopes to make her way to a producer one day, but so far she hasn’t been able to climb the ladder. A unique opportunity presents itself when Chris, in an effort to apologize and ask Zara to come back to work for him after she quits one day, gets drunk with Brooke and they start to hook up only to be interrupted by Zara.

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly's iconic ending solidified Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood's status in the spaghetti Western genre. The standoff scene showcases the archetypical spaghetti Western, with its tension, daring duration, and Ennio Morricone's score. The movie's ending offers a brutal deconstruction of traditional Western heroism, setting the stage for darker revisionist Westerns.
The Good, The Bad, And The Uglys ending is famous and still so beloved for as a spaghetti Western for its final scene ushering in a new era for the genre. Director Sergio Leones Dollars trilogy began in 1964 with A Fistful of Dollars. This inexpensive Clint Eastwood vehicle was a box office hit, and 1965 saw the arrival of its first sequel, For A Few Dollars More. When Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch premiered in 2011, it was met with a polarizing reception. Critics and audiences were off-put by its unique style, ambitious narrative structure, and the way it blended genres. As someone who initially viewed the film through a less mature lens, I found myself unimpressed by its convoluted plot and perceived lack of substance. Hell, I even watched it twice upon release to make sure I wasn’t missing anything. As time went on, I had moved on from the stale taste it bestowed upon me. So much so that I had even skipped any future Snyder offerings, yes, this includes his Dceu output. Maybe I’ll get to those one day. Who knows? However, one thing I do know is for certain: Zack Snyder loves himself a director’s cut of his films. Recently, he has expressed his determination to give his first original film the ol’ Snyder Cut treatment,...

The phrase The Good, the Bad and the Ugly has come to mean more than its origin, in Sergio Leone's legendary Spaghetti Western, where it referred to the three main characters. The Good is Blondie (Clint Eastwood), the most morally honorable figure, the Bad is Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef) the despicable villain, and the Ugly is Tuco (Eli Wallach), the most morally complex of the 3. He exists in the middle of the spectrum, the most "normal" of the 3, even though he does some terrible things. What's your interpretation of the title? In the original releases Italian, the film title was Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo, i.e., The Good, The Ugly, The Bad. Putting good and bad at opposite ends makes sense, of course. But putting ugly in the middle suggests that this is a sort of moral continuum, with an aesthetic dimension: splitting the difference between...

Prime Video’s adaption of the Fallout game franchise is looking like a hit.
The first season of the sci-fi action-comedy has opened this week to a 92 percent average positive review score on Rotten Tomatoes (which is just shy of HBO’s post-apocalyptic video game adaptation, The Last of Us). The first season — which seems very likely to earn a speedy renewal — has been a five-year labor of love from showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) and Graham Wagner (Silicon Valley) who, along with executive producers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, have brought the game’s world of a Wild West wasteland to life.
The secret to the show’s success seems to be successfully capturing the game franchise’s tricky balance of drama, graphic violence and off-beat humor — something plenty of Western projects have tried and failed to do the in the past (remember Will Smith’s Wild Wild West?...

Zack Snyder fans are already familiar with the director's style to show more versions of the same project, and one of the films he'd love to redo is 2011's Sucker Punch. The film already comes with an extended version, but he has more footage that could be used for a new version.
During an interview with Empire, Zack Snyder opened up about his previous movies, his upcoming sequel to Rebel Moon, and also the project he'd revise. The director has gotten fans used to several versions of the same film, whether a theatrical, director's or extended cut. His recent Netflix film, Rebel Moon, will also receive several versions, including an upcoming R-rated version. However, one of the films he'd love to change.

With 2010’s Pink Friday, Nicki Minaj didn’t adapt to the industry, but rather she forced it to adapt to her. A mix of femininity and bravado, the rapper’s first studio album quite literally remade mainstream hip-hop in her image. Thirteen years later, the album’s sequel, Pink Friday 2, feels like the product of an identity crisis.
Throughout the album, which clocks in at one hour and 10 minutes, Minaj lets herself be overshadowed by the sounds and styles of her featured guests. “Let Me Calm Down,” featuring J. Cole, feels completely derivative of the North Carolina rapper’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive, while Drake gets more airtime on “Needle” than Minaj herself. Even when Pink Friday 2 homes in on some catchy or indelible moments, like on the solo “Fallin 4 U,” things tend to slip into a sugary pop-r&b groove reminiscent of newer artists like Doja Cat and Sza.

From big-budget samples like Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” to features including Drake, Lil Wayne, and Future, the album is sure to satiate Minaj’s throngs of loyal fans — known as the Barbz — for some time, and makes for a late addition as one of the year’s biggest rap albums.

Clint Eastwood has demonstrated a surprising amount of dedication to his roles, often risking his safety by performing his own stunts. Even at the age of 91, Eastwood showcased his physical capabilities and continued to do his own stunts in the film "Cry Macho". Eastwood's commitment to his characters extends beyond physicality, as he incorporates his love for music into his performances, playing the piano and singing in films like "In The Line Of Fire" and "Honkytonk Man".
When it comes to naming actors willing to do anything to commit to a role, few moviegoers would think of Clint Eastwood as a dedicated character actor. Yet the 93-year-old actor and director has put a surprising amount of vigor into his many roles across his legendary filmography, going above and beyond with character work, stunts, and musical performances of all kinds. Before Zack Snyder turned his sights to the DC Universe, he gave us Sucker Punch, a psychological fantasy action movie that was his first film based on an original concept. While the film was a box office and critical disappointment, it has developed a cult following over the years who have grown to appreciate the over-the-top fantasy, but Snyder believes he didn’t go far enough.
“Sucker Punch is probably the most obvious example of straightforward, pure satire that I’ve made,” Zack Snyder told Total Film. “And I still think I didn’t go far enough, because a lot of people thought that it was just a movie about scantily clad girls dancing around in a brothel. I’m like, ‘Really? Did you see Watchmen? That film is completely a superhero deconstruction from the drop, which is all Alan Moore. That’s the thing I’ve found really interesting and motivating throughout my career.

Ever since their transition to the cinematic medium, both Marvel and DC Comics have made great headway in bringing superheroes to the big screen. The first of these two comic book companies satisfied moviegoers on May 2nd, 2008, with the release of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. DC, on the other hand, soon followed some odd years later in 2013 with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. As much as these types of films are a pure delight for comic book fans all around the world, one of the biggest milestones that the MCU and Dcu have achieved is the sheer number of movies that have come out of both camps since the rebirth of the genre.

Fans of Western movies are in for a treat as Prime Video India has added the legendary Dollars Trilogy, starring Clint Eastwood, to its streaming library. The trilogy, directed by Sergio Leone, consists of three films: A Fistful of Dollars (1964), For a Few Dollars More (1965), and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966). The films are widely regarded as the best examples of the Spaghetti Western genre, which refers to Westerns made by Italian filmmakers in Spain.
The trilogy follows the exploits of a mysterious gunslinger, played by Eastwood, who is known as the Man with No Name. He is a master of the quick draw and a man of few words, who often finds himself in the middle of conflicts between rival factions, bounty hunters, and outlaws. Jack Lee, part of the influential Los Angeles band The Nerves in the 1970s and later a hit songwriter, died May 26 in Santa Monica, Calif. at age 71. He died after a long battle with colon cancer.

Sequels are practically as old as cinema, with the very first thought to be The Fall of a Nation (1916), a cheapie knockoff/follow-up to the incredibly racist The Birth of a Nation from a year earlier. Ever since Hollywood has been keen to cash-in on sequels and ongoing sagas. Before the term “movie franchise” was even a glint in a studio executive’s eye, MGM was churning out high-quality Thin Man movies at MGM throughout the 1930s and ‘40s while Universal was introducing us to both Dracula’s Daughter (1936) and Son of Frankenstein (1939). One must wonder why the studio never got those two crazy kids together.
And yet, while sequels have been around forever, they’ve generally been seen as lesser-than until recently. By their nature, sequels are derivative, and there have been many filmmakers who were all too happy to embrace sameness while filling their working hours before and after lunch.
