Gotham Knights was released in 2022 for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, and it was an interesting take on the Bat family. Hardcore fans of the DC franchise looked at the game and thought one performance had a striking resemblance to another adaptation in live-action; however, the voice actor claims it was all a coincidence.

The gaming community had high hopes for Gotham Knights; unfortunately, it failed to resonate with the fans. While the game had its share of shortcomings, the same can’t be said about the voice acting performances. Each cast member brought their best to the table and sent the gaming community into the streets of Gotham as they fight Batman’s rogues gallery. One of those villains in Oswald Cobblepot, better known as the Penguin.

"What's that you're always tuned into? Worth anything?" Whoa! Video game studio Bungie released this 8-minute sci-fi short as promotion for their newest game Marathon (out in September). This new 2025 version of Marathon is actually a reboot of a classic 90s video game also called Marathon - one of the first shooter games Bungie ever made, released on Mac Os in 1995. This latest update is a "team-based extraction shooter." This cinematic short film isn't representing the exact gameplay - it's created by acclaimed Spanish animation filmmaker Alberto Mielgo, who won an Academy Award for 2022's The Windshield Wiper. This cinematic short features the voices of Erica Lindbeck as Glitch, Elias Toufexis as Void, Nika Futterman as Blackbird, Donnla Hughes as Oni, and Ben Starr as the Narrator. Very cool to see Bungie let Alberto play around and come up with something unique & fun with these characters. It definitely got my attention.

The fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery" began with a tantalizing premise. Captain Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) receives a Red Directive from a top Federation official, Dr. Kovich (David Cronenberg), tasking her with a secret mission. There is an abandoned 800-year-old Romulan science vessel lost in deep space, and Burnham is sent to retrieve a mysterious object on board. It seems, however, that a pair of mysterious marauders named Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis) have found the object first. After some planet-hopping cat-and-mouse games, Captain Burnham retrieves the object back from them and finds that it is a journal, written by 24th-century scientists, that points to the location of an impossibly ancient technology built by the Progenitors.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 revealed more about the Breen than ever before, but two characters from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine already knew what the Breen looked like 800 years before L'ak (Elias Toufexis) removed his helmet. The Breen were first spoken of in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but it was Star Trek: Deep Space Nine that formally introduced the Breen as fearsome aliens wearing helmets and refrigeration suits. The Breen soon allied with the Dominion and became an existential threat to the United Federation of Planets.
During the waning months of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Dominion War, the Breen turned the tide against the Federation. The Breen not only destroyed Captain Benjamin Sisko's USS Defiant with an energy-dissipating device, but they attacked Earth and dealt a devastating blow to the Federation's home world. Already proving to be an instant hit for Netflix, taking the number-one spot in most countries on its debut, Kaos offers an innovative and chaotic reimagining of Greek mythology. Of course, it does not hurt to have the always-charismatic Jeff Goldblum in the role of Zeus. The series has certainly sparked interest in stories about ancient gods and heroes, leaving many fans wanting more. Thankfully, Netflix has another series on their platform, that also happens to be 100% fresh on Rt, and uses Greek mythology as its inspiration.
Blood of Zeus may be tonally different from Kaos, and in a different medium, animation versus live action, but the series boasts many exceptional elements that should appeal to fans of the recent Netflix hit. We will look a bit more at what Blood of Zeus is, and why you should consider checking it out yourself while riding the high of Greek-inspired fantasy.

When Star Trek came back for its second wave of series, the producers avoided hiring "fans." However, one fan who wanted to write for the series essentially sneaked onto the Paramount lot with a spec script and walked away with a job. Ronald D. Moore proved that fans of Star Trek were just what the series needed, and he went on to write some of the best episodes in the entire franchise. The era of Star Trek that started with The Next Generation and ended with Enterprise took a lot of work to make happen.

As Star Trek: Discovery took its final bow with Season 5 earlier this year, not only did the series wrap up the arcs of our beloved crew, but it also introduced a few new faces that we wish we'd gotten to see more of. Among those faces was Elias Toufexis, who played one-half of the season's antagonist duo, Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Toufexis). The final episodes of the series saw the star-crossed lovers torn apart as L'ak died protecting Moll.

A Soong-type android like Fred could be a valuable addition to Starfleet Academy in the 32nd century. While Brent Spiner's Data may not appear in the new series, Fred could fill the void as a mentor or instructor. Star Trek fans are hopeful for Spiner to reprise Data in future spinoffs, but Fred offers a positronic spark for now.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy could have its own version of Data, but could Brent Spiner's beloved android also appear in Star Trek's next series? Created by executive producers and co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy reopens the school responsible for graduating Starfleet legends like Captain James T. Elias Toufexis as L'ak redefined the Breen species in Star Trek: Discovery with a soulful portrayal and backstory. L'ak, the Breen Scion, brought new depth to the Breen culture by revealing their imperial hierarchy in the 32nd century. Despite L'ak's tragic death, there are still possibilities for his return in flashbacks or as a hologram in future Star Trek series.
I think Star Trek: Discovery's L'ak, and the actor who portrayed him, Elias Toufexis, belongs on Star Trek's alien Mount Rushmore. There's no shortage of iconic aliens in Star Trek, and certainly, there are more than four actors who have delivered defining portrayals of non-human species in the final frontier. To name a few, Michael Dorn is the most prominent Klingon in Star Trek as Worf. Armin Shimerman is the face of the Ferengi as Quark. Of course, all Vulcans follow the mold set by the original, Leonard Nimoy.

When we think about Greek mythology, several works including art and movies reimagine the folklore. Blood of Zeus, directed by Shaunt Nigoghossian, is one such anime that has managed to redefine and reimagine folklore and myth through modern storytelling. This adult anime is a modern take on Greek mythology and the classic heroic themes.

The story follows the protagonist Heron who is determined to fulfill his purpose of saving the world from a demonic army while experiencing his inner conflicts. The series also highlights the see-saw effect between the protagonist as well as the villain Seraphim.

Few characters have captivated audiences in the world of animated epic fantasy, like Seraphim from Netflix’s Blood of Zeus. As the series enters its second season, the complex anti-hero continues to evolve. At the heart of this compelling character transformation is the talented voice actor Elias Toufexis, whose nuanced performance brings depth and humanity to the formerly villainous demigod.

Star Trek: Discovery premiered back in 2017 and was the 7th Star Trek show, and the 6th live-action series to have been released. It marked a new era for fans of the long-running space saga, set a decade before the events of the original Star Trek.
Regardless, Star Trek: Discovery has received more than its fair share of criticism. This is majorly due to its commitment to move away from the original narrative, and the unfamiliarity of the universe as far as its eventual 32nd century setting was concerned.
Still, the show has also been critically lauded, and one of the reasons has been the introduction of several memorable characters who have become an integral part of Star Trek as a whole.

Fred, a Soong-type android in "Star Trek: Discovery," introduced charming Tng nostalgia but was quickly forgotten after season 5 premiere. Fans missed out on exploring Fred's intriguing 32nd-century backstory and associations with Data due to his premature demise in the show. Discovery had a chance to revive Fred for more depth and connections to Tng, but the opportunity to delve into his character was sadly missed.
Star Trek: Discovery introduced an android named Fred (J. Adam Brown) who bore an obvious resemblance to Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner), and I wish the show would have done more with him. Discovery's fifth and final season saw Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery embark on a fun intergalactic treasure hunt with connections to Star Trek: The Next Generation. One of my favorite elements of the Discovery season 5 premiere was the introduction of Fred, a Soong-type android resembling Tng's Data.

Star Trek: Discovery ended but left many questions open. Questions surround the fate of Moll, L'ak's body, and who won the Breen civil war. The USS Discovery launched a new mission but we don't know what it's about.
The ending of Star Trek: Discovery left several questions unanswered. Star Trek: Discovery season 5 continued Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, episode 20, "The Chase", as Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the crew of the USS Discovery searched for the technology used by the Progenitors to create life. Opposing Burnham and the Discovery on this journey were criminal duo Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis), who sought the Progenitors' technology to give the Breen in exchange for ending the Erigah, or blood debt, on L'ak's head. Burnham ultimately earned stewardship of the Progenitors' tech, but few other characters received such satisfactory resolutions.

Captain Burnham's choice to not use Progenitors' technology highlights Star Trek's core philosophy of celebrating diversity. Michael Burnham's character arc in Star Trek: Discovery season 5 focuses on self-acceptance and radical internal change. By not using the Progenitors' technology, Captain Burnham finds peace and acceptance in the simplicity of life on Sanctuary Four.
I agree with the decision that Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) makes about the Progenitors' technology in Star Trek: Discovery's series finale. Throughout Star Trek: Discovery season 5's high-stakes chase for the "greatest treasure the galaxy has ever known", reminders that the Progenitors' technology can resurrect the dead imply that someone will be brought back to life before Discovery's final scene. The best candidate is Breen scion L'ak (Elias Toufexis), as Moll (Eve Harlow) is hellbent on acquiring the Progenitor technology to revive her love.

This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Discovery."
In its final season, "Star Trek: Discovery" has reintroduced a species of aliens that "Star Trek" fans haven't seen in live-action in decades. The Breen, a mysterious warrior race that first appeared in "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," have made their surprise return in recent weeks thanks to the gooier half of ill-fated courier duo Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis).
In their original incarnation, the Breen appeared clad in metal helmets with snout-like protrusions and green laser-like eye bands. They were typically covered up in outfits featuring diagonal metal bands, and though characters on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" often made offhand comments about what the then-unseen aliens might be like, little was explained about their culture in the 20th century "Star Trek" shows. Enter "Discovery," which has a long track record of building upon and deepening existing in-universe lore.

The following contains spoilers from Star Trek: Discovery, Season 5, Episode 8, "Labyrinths."
The lights are going out for Star Trek: Discovery, with only two episodes left in the remarkable series that ushered in the third wave of Gene Roddenberry's universe. What began as a high-minded sci-fi TV show with cardboard sets and rubber suit monsters expanded into a universe that now lives in and inspires the hearts of countless fans. With "Labyrinths," the crew of the USS Discovery closes in on their goal and faces the kind of no-win scenario that Star Trek does best.
Legend has it that a phrase was carved atop the entrance to the Temple of Apollo where the Oracle at Delphi resided. This phrase was "Know thyself." In Star Trek: The Original Series, the crew of the USS Enterprise met Apollo, who ironically didn't know himself at all. Much of the action in "Labyrinths" takes place in a mindscape.
