The U.S. senator Amy Klobuchar stood deep inside the crowd in the giant space of Osteria Mozza, the DC offshoot of Nancy Silverton’s Hollywood staple, greeting a slew of well-wishers.

And as a deejay blared Whitney Houston and bartenders poured bespoke cocktails, hundreds of sharply dressed media insiders circulated, laughed and even sometimes danced in a tableau that repeated itself more than a dozen times throughout the capital this weekend.

Greta Van Susteren has signed a multi-year deal to continue hosting Newsmax’s The Record with Greta Van Susteren.

The show, based in Washington, D.C., airs at 6 p.m. Et, kicking off the network’s nighttime lineup.

Her show debuted on the network in 2022.

Van Susteren provided legal analysis for the O.J. Simpson murder trial, launching her career as a national news personality that has included shows on CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. She later hosted a Sunday morning show for Gray TV and as a contributor to Voice of America.

Van Susteren led the Newsmax’s coverage of the GOP convention last year and has interviewed figures including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Shares of Newsmax, the newly public conservative-news outlet, soared initially in its first day of trading.

The company, which recently announced the completion of an initial public offering under Regulation A+, which pertains to small-cap companies, saw its stock price hike significantly, rising $51 per share in earlier trading, or 510%. Its Class B common stock went public at $10 per share. Newsmax said it raised $75 million (the maximum allowed under Regulation A+) through the sale of 7.5 million shares of Class B common stock. The company on March 3 said it closed a private sale of $225 million Class B preferred shares to more than 8,000 accredited investors.

Enthusiasm for the stock may be an indicator of the fortunes of conservative media outlets while the Trump administration creates a series of onerous conditions for mainstream news operations. Newsmax is making a major change to its primetime lineup, giving Rob Finnerty the 8 p.m. time slot beginning Oct. 8, when he will host a new program called Finnerty.

Finnerty is currently co-host of the conservative cable news channel’s morning show Wake-Up America, alongside Sharla McBride. It is not clear what Newsmax’s plans will be for the morning program going forward.

The 8 p.m. time slot previously belonged to Eric Bolling, but Bolling, a former Fox News host who joined Newsmax in 2021, left the channel earlier this year.

Newsmax’s lineup also includes former CNN, Fox News and MSNBC host Greta Van Susteren at 6 p.m., former Fox News host Rob Schmitt at 7 p.m., Greg Kelly at 9 p.m. and a panel show led by Chris Plante at 10 p.m.

Eric Bolling is departing Newsmax after three years with the network.

“After working together for three years to produce, present, and break news for the American people, it’s time for Eric to embark on new endeavors,” said a statement on Bolling’s website. “Eric and Newsmax are grateful for their time together and proud of the work they have produced.”

Bolling’s 8 p.m. Et show Eric Bolling The Balance was one of Newsmax’s most viewed shows, averaging 311,000 viewers last month, according to Nielsen.

Newsmax said that it had mutually agreed with Bolling to end his show. Starting on Monday, Newsmax will air its Prime News with rotating hosts until a permanent successor in the time slot is named.

Will Ronna McDaniel land another TV gig? There is already interest in the former Republican National Committee chair brewing from a couple of cable news outlets.

Sources at both Newsmax and NewsNation tell The Hollywood Reporter that they would be interested in pursuing a deal with McDaniel, should she ultimately finalize a separation agreement with NBC News.

McDaniel has been seeking a lawyer to negotiate an exit from NBC, which announced her hire as an NBC News contributor last Friday and reversed course just a few days later after facing backlash from MSNBC stars like Rachel Maddow and the Morning Joe team, not to mention an on-air rebuke from Chuck Todd on Meet the Press just minutes after McDaniel’s debut appearance.

McDaniel is likely to receive a hefty payout from NBC, given her two-year, $300,000 per year deal, though sometimes negotiations result in a lower payout in exchange for a shorter noncompete.

Tucker Carlson’s former top producer at Fox News is being accused of sexually assaulting a former employee when they both worked at the network 15 years ago.

In the lawsuit filed in New York State Court, Andrew Delancey alleged that after Justin Wells had promised to help advance his career, Wells assaulted him in 2008, according to The Washington Post. Tucker Carlson’s longtime executive producer at Fox News was sued on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting another Fox employee in 2008.

Justin Wells was a producer of “On the Record” with Greta Van Susteren at the time of the alleged assault. The accuser, Andrew Delancey, alleges that Wells lured him to his apartment in New York, and then pushed him onto a bed and forcibly grabbed his genitals.

“Defendant Wells quickly began unbuttoning and trying to rip off Mr. Delancey’s jeans as the sexual assault progressed,” the lawsuit states. “Mr. Delancey was in complete shock. He yelled out, ‘no!’ and mustered up the strength to physically slow down Defendant Wells’s physical attack.”

At the time, Delancey was a producer for Fox News Edge, which provides content to local Fox affiliates. According to the suit, Wells had higher status at the network, and had told Delancey that he would help him “learn the ropes.

A former Fox News employee claims in a new civil lawsuit that Tucker Carlson’s top producer Justin Wells sexually assaulted him in 2008.

The lawsuit was filed in federal court on Monday and cited New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which gave a one-year window for plaintiffs to file civil sexual abuse claims regardless of the statute of limitations.

Andrew Delancey, former regional producer for affiliate service Fox News Edge, claimed that in 2007, Wells contacted him on Facebook through a Fox employee Facebook group. At the time, Delancey was working at Fox 13 in Tampa Bay, and Wells was a producer at Fox 5 in New York. The next year, Wells encouraged Delancey to move to New York, and Delancey sent him his resume, according to the lawsuit. He eventually landed a job as a producer at the Fox News Edge team, and started in September, 2008.

It’s hard to underestimate the importance of live news, even as cord-cutting continues to impact the TV-watching audience. One survey from September found that all age groups used their broadcast TV channels to watch news more than any other type of programming.

The conservative news streaming service Newsmax+ launched at the beginning of November. At the end of that month, the service had already accrued 150,000 subscribers. The figure is impressive for a streamer with a niche audience and a narrow selection of content. How is Newsmax+ Doing?

When Newsmax+ first launched earlier this month, it was undoubtedly a gamble for Newsmax. After all, the channel’s content had been streaming on a free ad-supported TV (Fast) channel on platforms like Roku and YouTube, so it was no guarantee that...

The removal of Newsmax from Directv earlier this year drew sharp protests from ultra-conservative viewers of the channel, who were quick to cry censorship at its withdrawal. Carriage disputes are only becoming more common as cable and satellite lose customers, however. Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continued his right-wing media tour on Wednesday with an appearance on Newsmax, during which he claimed that the Chinese government is developing race-based biological weapons.

“We know that the Chinese are developing ethnic bio-weapons. Bio-weapons that are designed to attack people of certain racial types. And we’re doing the same thing. We’ve been collecting Chinese DNA. We’ve been collecting Russian DNA specifically for that. [This] arms race is a catastrophe,” Kennedy told host Greta Van Susteren. The presidential hopeful provided no evidence to substantiate his claim.

Fox News Channel is considering “multiple scenarios” for its primetime lineup after the ouster of Tucker Carlson, with the network declining to comment on a recent report that veteran Sean Hannity might move into its primetime lead-off hour at 8 p.m.

“No decision has been made on a new primetime line-up and there are multiple scenarios under consideration,” Fox News said in a statement Wednesday. Since Carlson was ousted in late April, Fox News has filled his hour with “Fox News Tonight,” an opinion show that relies on a rotating array of hosts. Lawrence Jones, Brian Kilmeade and Kayleigh McEnany are among those who have filled the seat for a week.

Fox News issued the comment in the wake of The Drudge Report posting a plan it said could be underway: moving Sean Hannity to 8 p.m.; switching Jesse Watters, who has fared well at 7 p.

Fox News viewership in the 8 pm hour is thus far down at least 50% since Tucker Carlson’s ouster was announced on Monday and his eponymous primetime hour was in turn replaced with Fox News Tonight.

What turned out to be the series finale of Tucker Carlson Tonight last Friday drew 2.7 million viewers, whereas Fox News Tonight — which this week has been hosted by Brian Kilmeade — at last count drew 1.33 million viewers.

When Fox News anchor Brian Kilmeade signed on Monday night to fill in for the defunct “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” some combination of curiosity, lead-in and brand strength kept the network’s total viewers numbers in a dead heat with Carlson’s last show the Friday before.

But boy, what a difference a couple of days makes: While the 8 p.m. hour got 2.59 million total viewers on average on Monday, viewership dropped to 1.7 million viewers on Tuesday, and slid further to 1.33 million total viewers on Wednesday, falling just behind MSNBC in that time-slot, according to Nielsen live plus same-day figures.

Trend-wise, it’s ugly: That’s a 34% Monday-to-Tuesday drop, with another 22% slide from Tuesday’s numbers on Wednesday night. Comparing Monday to Wednesday, average total viewership evaporated by half.

It’s not hugely surprising, and certainly not a disaster for Fox News, which on its worst of nights is still the most-watched network in cable news.

Former Vice President Mike Pence testified on Thursday before a DC grand jury probing former President Donald Trump’s role in efforts to overturn the election.

ABC’s Katherine Faulders reported that Pence was in the Washington DC courthouse for more than 7 hours.

Pence had previously fought efforts by prosecutors to secure his testimony. Pence was subpoenaed in February to testify in the Justice Department’s investigation, which is being led by Special Counsel Jack Smith. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Smith in November to lead the DOJ’s investigation into both Jan.

Sean Spicer exited Newsmax on Thursday, three years after launching “Spicer & Co.” in a prime spot on the conservative cable-news channel.

But with his golden-boy status ended a year ago when the network hired Greta Van Susteren — Spicer’s show was bumped from the coveted 6 p.m. Et slot to the 5 o’clock hour of Newsmax’s lineup — the first press secretary during the Donald Trump administration has left Newsmax, pledging to be “a force for good in this country.” According to Mediaite, Spicer and Newsmax could not come to terms on a new contract.

“After three-plus amazing years of ‘Spicer and Company,’ I’m leaving Newsmax to embark on a new project,” Spicer said in a YouTube video, which you can watch at the top of this post.

Like many other TV anchors at business-news outlet CNBC, Shepard Smith finds himself facing a closing bell.

The veteran journalist, who arrived at the NBCUniversal venue in the fall of 2020 with a mission to grow the network’s audience in early evening with a non-partisan general-news program, will leave CNBC as it focuses more intently on its core product: information tailored for viewers interested in the markets and personal finance.

Smith’s last show will air later in November, and CNBC intends to replace his program, “The News with Shepard Smith,” with an evening hour devoted to business news in early 2023. The anchors for that program will be named at a later date, and it remains to be seen whether CNBC will select candidates from among its current roster or seek to woon someone from outside its ranks.

A veteran of CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC is headed to upstart cable news outlet Newsmax. Greta Van Susteren has joined the network and will lead its nightly lineup as host of The Record with Greta Van Susteren starting June 14.

Newsmax touts the new show as “a solid hour of factual, fair, and independent perspective on the news.”

“With all that is going on in the world, I am getting back to my roots — a daily live news show with real reporting from the places where things are happening,” Van Susteren said.

A lawyer by training, Van Susteren came to national prominence as a legal analyst providing insight on the O.J. Simpson murder trial. Fox News hired her away from CNN in 2002, and she would move to MSNBC some 15 years later, after resigning from Fnc.

Greta Van Susteren says she just couldn’t stay away from the immediacy of cable news.

For the past few years, Van Susteren, one of the few anchors who can say they have been employed by CNN, MSNBC and Fox News Channel, has been working as a political analyst for Gray Television and doing a show for Voice of America. Now, she’s about to get back on the grid as an anchor leading the 6 p.m. hour for conservative news outlet Newsmax.

“Gray has been really fun, but here’s the big difference — there really is nothing like live news,” Van Susteren tells Variety. Gray let her out of her contract so she could take the new job, she says.

Tributes have been paid to Larry King, the legend of American television and radio, who died Saturday just weeks after being hospitalized with coronavirus. He was 87.

CNN President Jeff Zucker led respects to King, a towering figure in U.S. journalism following a six-decade career in which he interviewed the world’s most important and famous people. Maria Bartiromo will be among the Fox News Channel personnel taking a crack at leading “Fox News Primetime,” the cable-news outlet’s new opinion hour at 7 p.m.

Bartiromo, contributors Katie Pavlich, Rachel Campos-Duffy and former U.S. Representative Trey Gowdy, and frequent guest Mark Steyn are among those who will rotate as anchors on the program. Fox News launched an overhauled daytime lineup today that placed the former 7 p.m. anchor, Martha MacCallum, in the afternoons, and reserved the hour instead for an additional hour of opinion-based programming. The company’s CNBC on Wednesday evening launched former Fox News daytime anchor Shepard Smith in a new 7 p.m. news hour that, as Smith himself described it, aims to give viewers “journalists and experts, not opinions and pundits.” The business-news network clearly has some ambition for the new program. Voice of America Director Amanda Bennett and Deputy Director Sandy Sugawara resigned on Monday, after defending the government-backed media outlet from withering attacks from the White House and President Donald Trump.

Trump’s choice to lead the U.S. Agency for Global Media, Michael Pack, was confirmed by the Senate earlier this month. In a note to staff on Monday morning, Bennett said that Pack has the right to replace them with his own Voa leadership.

Gray Television is launching a late night newscast focusing on the coronavirus pandemic, with Greta Van Susteren and Lee Zurik hosting.

Full Court Press Now will launch on Monday across Gray’s stations in 93 markets. The show will draw on reporting from Gray’s newsrooms in local markets, with a focus on what public officials, private companies and health providers are doing.

Gretchen Carlson, the former Fox News anchor who sued the late Roger Ailes and accused him of sexual harassment, says victim-blaming always follows whistleblowing and uses “the same myths as domestic violence.”

Carlson appeared on Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast on Tuesday, where she discussed the cultural reaction to women’s whistleblowing and her new initiative, “Lift Our Voices,” which pushes for the end of non-disclosure agreements that prevent employees from discussing sexual harassment and assault.

NBC News President Noah Oppenheim signed a new contract to stay at the NBCUniversal unit in recent months, according people familiar with the matter, even as the company prepared to defend itself against allegations recently raised by Ronan Farrow’s explosive book, “Catch and Kill.”‘

Oppenheim is widely expected to succeed Andrew Lack, who currently holds the title of chairman of NBC News and MSNBC. Lack, a colorful executive who is serving his second stint at NBC, is currently working under a contract that lapses in 2020. Oppenheim’s deal, believed to be signed in recent months. is a sign of continued support in his tenure at the company, a fact that was voiced by NBCU CEO Steve Burke earlier this year. In a move signaling corporate synergy among Disney’s subsidiaries following the company’s purchase of 20th Century Fox, FX Networks has acquired off-network rights to “The Family Guy,” and will share those rights with Freeform.

The long-running Fox Broadcasting animated comedy — that network remains part of Rupert Murdoch’s Fox Corporation — will premiere on Fxx on April 16, airing Tuesdays from 9-11 p.m, Thursdays from 12-1 a.m., and Sundays from 7-9 p.m. On Sundays the show will be paired with FX reruns of “The Simpsons,” the first-ever off-network pairing of the two Fox Broadcasting mainstays.

The new weekend political show, launching in September and telecast from Washington D.C., will focus on how policy actions, political decisions, and national events impact local communities across the country; it will tap Gray Television journalists from newsrooms across the country.
