The British are ruling Netflix, at least when it comes to the streaming charts. According to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos (via Deadline), the streamer's top four most-watched series for the first half of the year all hailed from across the pond. Episodes of Netflix's British hits Fool Me Once, Bridgerton, The Gentlemen, and Baby Reindeer collectively racked up 360 million views from January through June 2024. These numbers and the streamer's other most-watched shows for the first half of the year will be released by Netflix later this week.

Sarando spoke on the numbers while appearing at the Royal Television Society London Convention, where he also sang the British entertainment industry's praises, calling the UK "one of the best countries in the world for TV and film." BBC recently released new first-look images for Jenna Coleman‘s four-part thriller series The Jetty. Written and created by Cat Jones, the upcoming series will attempt to examine sexual morality, age of consent, grooming, identity, and memory. While the series will be a crime thriller, it is also described as a coming-of-age story.

The Jetty follows the story of Detective Ember Manning as she tries to investigate an arson case in her scenic lake town. She soon discovers a connection between the case and a podcast journalist investigating a missing persons case, and she also comes across an illicit ‘love’ triangle between an adult man and two underage girls. As Embers digs deeper into the case, she discovers some deeply hidden secrets that could destroy her life and how she perceives her hometown.

Hulu has bought U.S. rights to British comedy horror Wreck.

The six-part series comes from Euston Films (Dublin Murders) and emerging British writer Ryan J. Brown. It launch on Hulu on March 1 following a deal with distributor Fremantle.

Wreck is billed as “a tense thriller, mixing comedy with a slice of slasher, set aboard a mega cruise ship.”

It follows 19-year-old new recruit Jamie, as he infiltrates a 1,000-strong crew in a desperate race to find his missing sister, who worked on the same ship but vanished mid-charter. Last year, we shared the news that Fremantle’s Euston Films is set to produce a six-part horror comedy series called Wrecked for BBC Three and BBC iPlayer. Euston’s Noemi Spanos and BBC’s Tommy Bulfin executive produced the show, which has been written by Ryan J. Described as a “tense thriller” set aboard a cruise ship, the six-episode series is both comic with a “slice of slasher.” It is currently in production in Northern Ireland.

Kennedy stars as Jamie, who infiltrates a cruise ship called The Sacramentum, in a bid to find his sister, who has gone missing after working aboard the ship on a previous tour.

As Jamie is initiated into the 3,000-strong crew he meets the different factions it’s comprised of, from the theater workers to the “mafias” and low-paid staff, and their life of partying and excess. Meanwhile a series of bloodthirsty murders are taking place on board, which Jamie is determined to uncover.
