In a bid to grab the attention of younger audiences, the 13th Panama International Film Festival (Iff Panama) has included a mélange of comedies, thrillers, animation and genre pics amid the docs, dramas and arthouse fare in its program.

“We aim to engage and inspire younger generations to return to the cinema,” said Karla Quintero, who took over festival director duties last year from Iff Panama board president Pituka Ortega-Heilbron who has been focusing on her film projects.

To captivate them even more, outdoor screenings are free as always. The festival has a number of lauded animation pics this year, led by award-winning “Olivia & the Clouds,” “Ainbo – Spirit of the Amazon” and biopic “Hola, Frida!”

The director, J.M. Cravioto, does justice to the comedy mystery thriller A Deadly Invitation, with a story revolving around a high-society murder. Starring well-known actors Maribel Verdú, Stephanie Cayo, Manolo Cardona, and Aarón Díaz, the movie is replete with elements that would engage audiences throughout. The plot focuses on a deadly invitation sent out by Olivia to some of the people she knew and shared a bitter-sweet relationship with. Will the invitation lead to a gathering of merrymakers or end in a catastrophe? Let us see what happens when all the characters come together!

What Happens In The Film?

After receiving an invitation from her half-sister Olivia, Agatha goes over to Los Cabos, Mexico. That is where she meets the other characters of the film: Carlos, Cary, Sonia, Naram, and Figue. They have also been invited to the mysterious party, and nobody has any clue as to why they have been summoned.

In a hearing on Tuesday, the Mexican Congress held the country’s first hearing on the topic of unidentified aerial phenomena (Uap), commonly known as UFOs.

Journalist and self-proclaimed “ufologist” Jaime Maussan presented two “alien corpses” to the representatives.

The two alleged alien bodies were scrawny, cartoon-like and bore a noticeable resemblance to E.T., one of pop culture’s most famous aliens. The corpses were pasty white, with big heads and three fingers per hand.

The bodies were recovered in Peru near the ancient Nazca Lines in 2017, where they were dug up from the ground wrapped in algae; the National Autonomous University of Mexico speculated that the bodies were likely 1,000 years old.

Maussan insisted that the bodies are not mummies. He said that they are complete, un-manipulated and share no relation to human beings. Maussan declared under oath: “This is the first time [extraterrestrial life] is presented in such a form...

Erik Barmack, the former senior Netflix exec, and Mexico-based producer Jimena Rodríguez have added two new Spanish crime novels – “El Susurro del Angel” and “Pequeñas Infamias” – to their burgeoning line in star-studded, character-driven crime thrillers begun by Netflix Mexico original “Invitation to Murder.”

Netflix has reaffirmed its 300 million commitment to Mexican cinema and series, announcing a slew of new movie projects to celebrate the country’s National Day of Cinema on Aug. 15 and as part of its #QueMéxicoSeVea initiative.

Exclusive: Pantaya has set September 15 as the premiere date for Toda La Sangre, the crime-thriller starring Aarón Díaz and Ana Brenda Contreras.

Based on the best-selling novel by Mexican author Bernardo Esquinca, Toda La Sangre follows Casasola (Díaz), a tabloid reporter who joins forces with police lieutenant Edith Mondragón (Contreras) and Elisa (Yoshira Escárrega), a local anthropologist, who aim to decipher a series of murders that have shocked the country. Exclusive: Ana Brenda Contreras (Dynasty) has signed with Afa Prime Talent Media, a division of Kenan Thompson’s Artist for Artist company, which launched earlier this year.

In her English language debut, Contreras starred as Crystal Jennings in Season 2 of the CW series Dynasty, a reboot of the 1980s series of the same name.

Up next, Contreras will take the lead in Telemundo’s El Conde: Amor y Honor, an adaptation of the 1844 novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. She portrays Mariana Zambrano in the series—set to premiere in 2023— costarring Fernando Colunga and Marjorie de Sousa.

The first in the ring this spring is the Mexican-themed, 2D sidescroller "Guacamelee!"

Commonly referred to as a "Metroidvania" style game, "Guacamelee!" puts you into the boots of Mexican wrestling fan Juan, as the love of his life is kidnapped. In his attempt to save her he gets himself killed, and sent to the land of the dead where he obtains a mystical luchador mask that gives him great powers, and brings him back to life. Juan must now set out to save El Presidente's Daughter from the evil Carlos Calaca, a soul raised from the dead, who has already turned Diablo into a chicken,...

Diaz says he was inspired to create "Clockwork Empire" based on the work of games critic and documentarian Anita Sarkeesian's "Tropes vs. Women." Explaining the story, Diaz says:
