Fresh from her much-celebrated cameo in Universal’s big screen adaptation of “Wicked,” Kristen Chenoweth is set to lend her vocals — and songwriting skills — to an altogether different movie.
The Tony and Emmy-winning stage and screen star will sing an original end title song during the closing credits on “The King of Kings,” the upcoming animation based on the life of Jesus Christ from Angel Studios, the distributor of 2023 hit “The Sound of Freedom.”
The song “Live Like That,” described as a sharing a “story of yearning for a childlike faith,” has also been co-written by Chenoweth, alongside Kellys Collins, Tim Nichols, Matt Wynn and was produced by Keith Thomas.
“I am deeply honored to be part of such a significant project,” said Chenoweth. “The opportunity to contribute musically to a film that explores the life of Jesus Christ is both a professional and personal milestone. I hope my song...

Years before The White Lotus Season 3, Leslie Bibb already perfected an ability to portray the absurd and dark side of upper class cliques. Back in 2012, Bibb showed her adeptness at this kind of satirical, soapy role in the short-lived ABC show Gcb, adapted from the novel Good Christian Bitches by Kim Gatlin. Bibb played Amanda Vaughn, a former “Queen Bitch” of her high school who returns to her old neighborhood in Dallas after a scandal that leaves her widowed and financially ruined. Kristin Chenowethplayed antagonist Carlene Cockburn, a woman who Amanda bullied in high school and who is now the queen of the local social scene. Bibb and Chenoweth both gave hilarious, sharp performances as the two women vied for status and control of the tightly-knit neighborhood. Despite a sharp premise and strong performances from Bibb and Chenoweth, Gcb was cancelled after only 10 episodes.

Stephen King is an incredibly prolific modern author, best known for his works in the horror genre. King's novels and novellas have landed on the New York Times Best Seller list multiple times, and several have been adapted into critically acclaimed films. He is renowned for his ability to craft a chilling atmosphere and infuse his scares with a compelling sense of mystery and intrigue.
Luckily, even after they've exhausted his filmography, King's fans have plenty of options for entertainment. A consistent part of the media landscape for decades, he's been an inspiration for horror auteurs. And with the rise of horror television, King's influence can be seen across the TV landscape.

With James Wan as the producer and approval from Stephen King, Teacup couldn’t have gotten a much bigger hype in the horror genre. Peacock’s sci-fi horror series is loosely based on Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. Sadly, the series got the axe from Peacock after its critically acclaimed first season.
The series also boasted a talented star cast, featuring Yvonne Strahovski, Scott Speedman, Kathy Baker, Rob Morgan, and Boris McGiver. A group of people in an isolated ranch in rural Georgia are stuck together as they face a threat that they can’t see.

Created by Ian McCulloch, the series began streaming on the NBCUniversal-backed platform in October 2024. While it wasn’t as popular as other shows of the year, it received love from fans who got around to seeing it in the first place. The series ended its first season on a cliffhanger.

In the entertainment industry, several projects are tossed before they can make it to the development stage. Out of those that do end up being made, only a fraction of them end up surviving and getting more than a few seasons. However, the majority of these are canceled before they can take flight, ending the saga with just a single season, and leaving fans on a cliffhanger for the rest of their lives. This is what happened with Peacock’s latest TV series, Teacup.

While Ariana Grande has iconically made Wicked’s Glinda her own, she went through a long audition process and had to compete against many other seasoned performers to get the role. Stephen Schwartz’s affecting music and lyrics have made the story the second-highest-grossing musical of all time and turned the Wicked characters of Glinda and Elphaba into beloved pop culture icons. Naturally, the Good Witch of the South represented a dream career challenge for many actresses, having been set as one of those impossible-to-repeat roles in Kristin Chenoweth’s immortal 2003 performance.
Reviews for Wicked have shown no shortage of praise for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s fantastic characterization — especially in Wicked’s powerful ending — making it feel like they were born to bring these characters to the big screen. Clearly, the talented artists weren’t the only ones considered for a part in Wicked, as the movie’s...

The Chenoweth family may have defeated Assassin, but they couldn't survive the threat of cancellation. Peacock's horror series Teacup is ending after only one season on the streaming platform, per Variety. Created by Ian McCulloch as an adaptation of the Robert McCammon novel Stinger, it debuted last year in October as the latest horror project from horror maestro James Wan and his Atomic Monster production company. Despite solid reviews from critics and the big names attached to help make the spooky rural Georgia story something special, it apparently failed to capture an audience, unable to break into the Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts.

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's surprise appearances in Wicked were a delight, especially since their roles were the perfect way to honor their legacies. These stars originated the roles of Elphaba and Galinda on Broadway, so it was only fitting that they made an appearance in the 2024 movie adaptation. Of course, director Jon M. Chu could have approached this in any number of ways. Menzel and Chenoweth could simply have appeared in the background of a scene or served as educators at Shiz. However, such options wouldn't have done their legacies with Wicked justice.
The Wicked musical debuted on Broadway in 2003 and is now the longest-running show on this iconic New York street. In the last two decades, Elphaba and Galinda's story has made it all around the world, with dozens of talented performers bringing their own twist to the beloved roles. With two of the most anticipated movie cameos of the year, Jon M. Chu had his work cut out for him.
The Wicked director recently recounted how he conceived an appearance for the original Broadway musical’s stars Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth during the song ‘One Short Day’, performed with their successors Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.
“It was a tightrope that we all had to talk about a lot, with Stephen [Schwartz] and Winnie [Holzman] as well, where’s the best place,” Chu told CinemaBlend. “And we had them as cameo roles at some point, like, ‘maybe they’re Galinda’s parents’ or ‘maybe they’re this or that.’ And those were all fine and good, but every time we thought of it more, it didn’t feel — they’re at the top of their game right now. At the moment, Wicked is one of the biggest success stories of the year. Fans worldwide are enjoying the film and are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which is scheduled for release around the same time next year. This musical, which is based on the well-known musical of the same name as well as the acclaimed but controversial book, became an even bigger hit than the media had anticipated.
Although Wicked has had its share of controversy, it has been rather mild in comparison to some previous films, and nobody is particularly worried about the film’s future, seeing how the movie appears to be doing extremely well right now.
But, while this is not a problem in any case, we have recently reported how a lot of cast members from Wicked are members of the LGBTQ+ community, and that – of course – angered a lot of homophobes and bigots who have a problem with that,...

Original Wicked star Kristen Chenoweth offers a direct response to the outcry by the One Million Moms group to boycott the 2024 movie adaptation of the 2003 stage musical. Chenoweth was the first actor to portray Galinda Upland, the woman who would become Glinda the Good Witch, in the stage musical adaptation of Gregory Maguire's reimagining of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz. In the 2024 movie adaptation, the Wicked cast sees Ariana Grande-Butera take on the role of Galinda, while Cynthia Erivo takes on the role of future Wicked Witch, Elphaba Thropp.
While Wicked continues to soar high at the box office, Chenoweth took to Instagram to call out an effort to instigate a boycott of the movie by Conservative activist group One Million Moms.

Wicked is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, based on the popular Broadway stage musical that premiered in 2003, which was also loosely inspired by Gregory Maguire's 1995 novel of the same name. The musical has been enchanting moviegoers since it came out, but it has now attracted some attention from One Million Moms.
The right-wing group slammed the film for "pushing the LGBTQ agenda on families, particularly children," Out Magazine reported. The group signed a petition to boycott the film, and Broadway legend Kristin Chenoweth, who played Galinda in the original stage adaptation, was not having it. She pushed back against the criticism in Out's Instagram section about their intent to "spew hate."

The widely anticipated film adaptation of “Wicked” is the subject of a cultural discussion. Kristin Chenoweth, a Broadway star, has spoken up to defend the film against a boycott coordinated by the hardline group One Million Moms.
This organization has established a petition asking parents to keep their children away from the film. They allege it promotes “the LGBTQ agenda” and accuse it of containing “a tremendous amount of witchcraft and sorcery.” Furthermore, they claim the film contains “not-so-discrete cross-dressing” and “men crushing on men.”
Chenoweth, who famously played Glinda in the Broadway musical in 2003, reacted vehemently on Instagram. She said, “Everyone knows the ‘one million Moms’ are just a few hundred. Maybe.” She highlighted that the picture is simply termed “entertainment.” Artistry.” Chenoweth, a self-identified Christian, criticized the organization’s stance: “I can’t help it: I try to love them nonetheless because they don’t grasp it.

Kristin Chenoweth is clapping back at One Million Moms after the organization started a boycott of the Wicked movie.

Kristin Chenoweth originated the stage role of Glinda 20 years ago on Broadway, but now she has given her blessing to Ariana Grande to take over the role in the Wicked movie. There is even a cameo of Chenoweth in Wicked as a member of the Emerald City Players. In a meta moment, Chenoweth wanders through the crowd, encouraging everyone to sing, and stops to address Grande's Glinda directly. When Glinda goes to sing, Chenoweth covers her mouth with her hand, a nod to her own time as Glinda, a character who loved to have the spotlight.
While Chenoweth's musical cameo in Wicked was already exciting, the scene is actually so much better because it is not just a passing of the wand, but a musical reunion between Grande and Chenoweth. Kristin Chenoweth isn't a fan of Teresa Giudice and it seems like the feelings are mutual. Chenoweth, who recently made a cameo appearance in the film Wicked, is a Broadway legend. But that doesn't mean Giudice knows who she is. The singer and actor called Giudice "dangerous" on a social media post and now Giudice has some harsh words for her. In Chenoweth's original post, she seemed to be team Melissa Gorga and Joe Gorga in their on-going feud on The Real Housewives of New Jersey.

This article contains spoilers for the movie adaptation of Wicked.Wicked director Jon M. Chu explains why the film's key cameos caused the production major changes. Wicked has been impressing critics and audiences alike ever since its release on November 22. Wicked's leading cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande-Butera, Jonathan Bailey, Marissa Bode, Jeff Goldblum, and Michelle Yeoh, two of which (Erivo and Grande-Butera) were recently recognized for their work through Golden Globe nominations. In addition to the main cast members, Wicked featured a notable cameo from Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who played the original Elphaba and Glinda on Broadway.
In an interview on the Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul podcast, Chu delves into the cameos from Chenoweth and Menzel. Chu explained the difficulty with creating an apt cameo in the first place, noting that the team aimed to "show the strength of them, but it couldn't be so...

For longtime Wicked fans, the thought of a film adaptation Not including at least a nod to the original Broadway stars — Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth as Elphaba and Glinda — was damn near impossible. And thankfully, the film's director (and self-professed musical fan) Jon M. Chu agreed.
But how did their extended cameos come together in the big screen adaptation starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo as Glinda and Elphaba (respectively)? Well, in a new interview with CinemaBlend managing editor Sean O'Connell, the details of how Menzel and Chenoweth's roles evolved in the film are finally available for us normies who didn't work on the biggest film of the year.
Needless to say, if you haven't seen the film and don't want to be spoiled any further, do not read on!

Wicked director Jon M. Chu addresses how the movie's arrival in Oz evolved as the production determined how the original stage show star's cameos would fit into the movie. The 2024 musical is based on the musical retelling of L. Frank Baum's The Wizard of Oz that was adapted from Gregory Maguire's novel of the same name, which told a sympathetic retelling of the Wicked Witch of the West's story. Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, as she meets Galinda (Ariana Grande-Butera), the woman who would become Glinda the Good.
While Wicked features a surprise cameo by original Broadway Elphaba and Glinda performers Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, Chu revealed to CinemaBlend that their appearances underwent several drafts before casting them as actors in the Wizomania stage show. Though Menzel and Chenoweth were envisioned as playing several roles that included Galinda's parents,...

Many viewers have experienced Wicked for the first time in theaters since its opening weekend, but before the movie, Wicked has long been one of the most popular shows on Broadway. In 2024, Ariana Grande-Butera and Cynthia Erivo lead Wicked's incredible cast as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively. Back in 2003, when the musical first opened on Broadway, those same roles were originated by the iconic Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel.
Now, more than 20 years later, Chenoweth and Menzel cameo in Wicked in one of the best and cheekiest scenes in the movie musical. Standing across Oz's central square, looking the new Glinda and Elphaba in the eyes, it is clear to see what makes all four actresses such incredible presences on stage and screen. Without upstaging the new stars, Chenoweth and Menzel perfectly execute a number in Wicked, which is already contending for Oscars, that ties directly back to their Broadway roles.

As Wicked continues its impressive theatrical run, the film’s costume designer confesses he was faced with a time crunch dressing two iconic actresses who made cameos in the Broadway play-inspired movie.
Costumer Paul Tazewell told People he had a very limited amount of time to figure out what Tony Award-winners Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth would wear in the Wicked movie. In the Broadway play, Menzel and Chenoweth originated the roles of Elphaba and Glinda, respectively, back in 2003. Kristin Chenoweth's appearance in Netflix's Our Little Secret was perfectly timed to coincide with her special cameo performance in the musical movie Wicked. Netflix's latest Christmas movie depicts two exes who inadvertently discover they are dating siblings and are forced to spend the Christmas holidays together. The movie offers a lighthearted and enjoyable story about second chances and how the holidays can inspire happy endings. Our Little Secret's cast includes Lindsay Lohan as well as Chenoweth, who steal the show with their comedic performances.
Our Little Secret is the latest movie released as part of Lohan's long-term movie agreement with Netflix, for which she also serves as an executive producer; it is her third movie released with Netflix after Falling For Christmas (2022) and Irish Wish (2024). It is also just one of the latest titles to join Netflix's growing catalog of Christmas movies, alongside Hot Frosty and That Christmas.

Our Little Secret is a reminder to watch another Kristin Chenoweth Christmas film that hits some of the same notes. Netflix’s latest festive comedy follows two resentful exes who are forced to spend Christmas together after realizing that their current partners are brother and sister. It’s a fun, lighthearted story that explores how different people celebrate the holiday season, and how the magic of Christmas can spark romance in the most unexpected of places. Our Little Secret stars Lindsay Lohan and Kirsitn Chenoweth in two of their most entertaining roles in recent memory.
When it comes to great Christmas comedies, Netflix has essentially monopolized the genre over the past few years. Every festive season, the streaming giant comes out with a new big-budget romcom that pulls some recognizable faces together and gathers huge viewership numbers. One of the early films that heralded the start of Netflix’s barrage of Christmas movies this year is the two-week-old “Hot Frosty.” Despite its utterly silly premise, the Lacey Chabert-Dustin Milligan rom-com somewhat worked for me due to its genuinely uninhibited commitment to embracing the said silliness. This week, Netflix brings Lacey Chabert’s “Mean Girls” colleague, Lindsay Lohan, with another conventionally made movie solely to spread Yuletide cheers. However, unlike “Hot Frosty,” “Our Little Secret” does not revel in its silliness. It tries to rise above it and fails.
Directed by Stephen Herek, “Our Little Secret” starts with a cutesy, warmly-told, animated clip that introduces Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding). The film takes the oddly intriguing route of having the couple break up unceremoniously right after the animated clip (and Avery’s dad) paints the picture of Avery and Logan as an inseparable couple. Kristin Chenoweth is beloved for her musical background and movies, but she is not a fan of The Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice. The website Reality Blurb shared a post on Instagram about The Real Housewives of New Jersey about their lack of filming. Giudice said they all should be able to film together despite the current feuds between the cast and the picture included Giudice sitting on a chair on Watch What Happens Live. Chenoweth responded to the Reality Blurb post with a surprising reaction to seeing Giudice.

I’m perfectly capable of enjoying a cheesy Lindsay Lohan Netflix rom-com. Last year, I liked “Irish Wish,” and got tweaked for it. (I stand by the affection.) But “Our Little Secret,” Lohan’s new Christmas rom-com, is crumpled tinsel of a different order. I’m tempted to say that it achieves full Netflix cookie-cutter. I cringed, I grimaced, I said “No!…,” I forced myself to stop looking at how much time there was left.
Every rom-com needs that love-story MacGuffin known as the Thing That Keeps Our Two Romantic Co-Stars Apart. But part of the weird ineptitude of “Our Little Secret” is that it doesn’t have that thing. An animated prelude shows us that Avery (Lohan) and Logan (Ian Harding) grew up together, became inseparable friends, fell in love…and it was all good. But then we cut to 2014. The two are adults, and Avery is leaving for an unspecified job in London.

As Wicked takes the box office by storm, Ariana Grande and Kristin Chenoweth are reminding audiences who was the original “friend of Dorothy.”

Jon M. Chu counted himself a fan of “Wicked” long before he was hired to direct the big-budget movie adaptation of the popular Broadway musical.
So it was a question of where, not if, he should pay homage to Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the stage roles of Elphaba and Glinda, in the two-part film, the first of which landed in theaters on Nov. 22. After much deliberation among Oz’s powers that be, it was decided they would appear in the movie as the stars of Wizomania, an expanded show within the show that plays out when Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) visit the Emerald City during the song “One Short Day.”

It’s Musicals Week at IndieWire. With “Wicked” about to sparkle over theaters, we’re celebrating the best of the movie-musical genre.

Happily, they do, and it ranks among the very best treats of the adaptation. The following contains spoilers for Wicked: Part 1, now playing in theatersWicked: Part 1 features some terrific performances, raising the question how stars like Ariana Grande match-up against Broadway legends like Kristin Chenoweth in their shared role as Galinda/Glinda. Glinda (originally known as Galinda) is a deceptively tricky role in Wicked. She's the second most important character in Wicked, serving as a comedic and tragic contrast to Elphaba's evolution into the Wicked Witch. The following contains spoilers for Wicked: Part 1, now playing in theatersWicked: Part 1's biggest cameo moments brings some major representation from the original musical to the big screen. When Stephen Schwartz and Winnie Holzman's stage musical adaptation of Gregory Maguire's novel "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" made its Broadway debut in 2003, few could have anticipated what an international sensation "Wicked" would become. Note: Spoilers ahead for “Wicked.” Turn back now if you wish to remain pure.
Good news! “Wicked” is finally here — or at least, part one is — and fans can now see Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s takes on Glinda and Elphaba in full. But you’ll also see some familiar faces singing to them.
Now in theaters, “Wicked” tells the story of what happened before Dorothy came to Oz, and how the witches came to have their reputations. No, Elphaba (Erivo) wasn’t always the Wicked Witch of the West. And yes, she and Glinda (Grande) were friends. But that was a long time ago.
“Wicked” was indeed first a book, but the story shot to fame when it was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2003. To date, it is one of the longest-running and highest-grossing musicals ever. In that original Broadway cast, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel played Glinda and Elphie,...
