Nicôle Lecky Says BBC Thriller ‘Wild Cherry’ Shows A Whole New Side To Wealth In Britain Today
Image
Exclusive: British TV has featured its fair share of wealth on screen down the years – just think Downton Abbey or Brideshead Revisited – but in Wild Cherry, creator Nicôle Lecky wanted to shine new light on the super rich.

The thriller is set in a gated community, a collection of large houses and apartments in places like the Home Counties in which mini ecosystems develop, where wealth can be an ultimate currency whatever one’s background.

“I used to drive through a gated community in Surrey and I would look at these mansions and think, ‘Gosh who lives there?’,” Lecky told Deadline. “It had such a strong sense of an England that I hadn’t seen before. I knew I wanted to set something there.”

Starring Eve Best and Carmen Ejogo, who are coming off the back of HBO tentpoles House of the Dragon and The Penguin respectively, Wild Cherry follows Lorna (Ejogo), a self-made,...

“Did Everyone Have a Bad Vibe About…”: Everyone Hates 1 Notoriously Bad Two and a Half Men Female Character Who Came After Charlie Sheen Left
Image
Two and a Half Men isn’t exactly a shining beacon when it comes to morally upright characters, with its lead Charlie Harper being a bottomless drunk, but entertaining nonetheless. While many reasonably didn’t find his antics enjoyable, as the show’s prudish comedy wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, there is one character who is unanimously hated, Zoey.

Making her debut after Charlie Sheen’s infamous exit from the sitcom, Zoey, played by Sophie Winkleman, became a recurring character in seasons 9 and 10, and was presented as Ashton Kutcher’s love interest. But as the story goes, the writer dropped the ball hard with her character, making her one of the most dislikeable figures throughout its 12-season-long run.

House of the Dragon star Eve Best and The Penguin‘s Carmen Ejogo will lead a new BBC drama from Nicôle Lecky, Wild Cherry.

8 Most Tragic TV Show Breakups Ill Never Get Over
Image
Breakups are never easy, especially when you get deeply invested in TV show relationships that end tragically. Mark and Sophie's breakup in Peep Show left viewers devastated and Mark struggling to find true love thereafter. Scenes from a Marriage portrayed a powerful depiction of love, hatred, and divorce, showing how relationships can unravel.

Breakups are never easy, but one thing that Ive always found a little too easy was getting invested in the relationships of characters on my favorite TV shows. This can be a great experience as I get to feel the exciting highs of burgeoning romance, but sadly, this also means that I have to endure the devastating consequences of when things dont work out, partners betray one another, or long-lasting love slowly and painfully comes to an end. Its not easy being a TV fan, as more often than not, relationships end in tragedy on the small screen.

‘Belgravia: The Next Chapter’: Harriet Slater, Ben Wainwright, Elaine Cassidy Among 9 Cast In Julian Fellowes’ MGM+ Sequel Series
Image
Exclusive: MGM+ has set cast for Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Julian Fellowes’ sequel series to the hit historical drama. Harriet Slater, Ben Wainwright, Edward Bluemel, Claude Perron and Elaine Cassidy are set as series regulars in the drama series executive produced by Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant. Additionally, Toby Regbo, Hannah Onslow, Sophie Thompson and Sophie Winkleman will recur in the eight-part series. Filming is underway in the UK with premiere set for winter 2023.

The Next Chapter is a continuation of Belgravia, named for and set in the affluent London district that became synonymous with the upper echelons of London society in the 19th century.

Belgravia: The Next Chapter picks up in 1871, three decades after the events depicted in the 2020 limited series, which was written by Fellowes and based on his novel of the same name. Developed and written by playwright and screenwriter Helen Edmundson, the series tells the love story of Frederick Trenchard (Wainwright), who has grown up as the third Lord Trenchard, and his new love interest, Clara Dunn (Slater), who is a newcomer to London society. Unaware that his birth was the product of an affair between his mother Susan and the scoundrel John Bellasis, a troubled childhood has left Frederick deeply insecure, which challenges his courtship of and marriage to Clara.

Slater’s Clara Trenchard (née Dunn) is a young, smart, and striking woman, and a fresh face amongst the society of Belgravia, Clara is thrilled by her marriage to the enigmatic Frederick … but as she comes to learn more of her husband and the trauma he carries, Clara finds her marriage will not be as smooth as she first thought and is something she must fight for.

Wainwright’s Frederick Trenchard, the young and handsome third Lord Trenchard, Frederick takes after his grandfather with a ferocious work ethic, having built a large business empire. Immediately smitten with Clara, he marries her after a whirlwind romance, but brings with him traumas from his past that threatens his newfound happiness.

Hannah Onslow, Sophie Thompson, Sophie Winkleman and Toby Regbo

Bluemel plays Dr. Stephen Ellerby. An idealistic, charming, and attractive young doctor, Stephen is brought into the society of Belgravia as he cares for Peter, son of the Duke of Rochester—a far cry from his life amongst the bohemians of Bloomsbury. He is quickly captivated by Clara after meeting her and starts to gain her trust as their lives interweave.

Regbo plays Rev. James Trenchard, Frederick’s estranged brother. A gentle, kind and religious man, James is haunted by both the separation from his brother and a private battle he is determined to keep hidden.

Onslow portrays Emily Dunn, Clara’s older sister. Emily responds to her sister’s swift marriage with a hint of jealousy as she is desperate to make her own match. But when she throws herself into charity work at her new church, she is instantly attracted to the Reverend James Trenchard.

Thompson plays Mrs. Dunn, Emily and Clara’s devoted mother. Mrs Dunn is a nervous, giddy, and chatty widow who has moved to Belgravia with her daughters and is thrilled by Clara’s new marriage and the security in social standing it brings.

Perron plays The Marquise D’Étagnac, a glamorous and highly unconventional French businesswoman, who is introduced to Belgravia by the Duke and Duchess of Rochester. Offering a wealth of business opportunities, Frederick sees a chance to expand into new areas of industry.

Winkleman portrays Duchess of Rochester. The queen of Belgravia, the Duchess and her husband stand at the top of Belgravia’s social hierarchy – but privately, she struggles to reconcile the Duke’s feelings towards their unwell, eldest son Peter with her own wishes for his care.

Cassidy plays Davison. Clara’s newly appointed lady’s maid, Davison grows to protect her mistress with a fierce devotion, recognizing Clara’s youth and need for love. Davison has experienced hard times in her own past and is intent on supporting Clara through her struggles.

Led by Neame, the series reunites Carnival’s award-winning creative team behind the original series. Neame and Marchant will serve as executive producers with Fellowes and Joanna Strevens. Helen Edmundson serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series will be directed by John Alexander, Paul Wilmshurst and Marisol Adler. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) who produced the original series, will return as producer.

Belgravia: The Next Chapter is a Carnival Films co-production with MGMPlus Studios and will be distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution. Carnival Films is part of Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group.

‘Sanditon’: Masterpiece Drops Trailer For Final Season
Image
Masterpiece has released a trailer for the upcoming final season of Sanditon, the drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, that was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures.

The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3. The drama will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on PBS. The series also will be available to stream the same day.

Returning characters for Season 3 include Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke), Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall), Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield), Lady Denham (Anne Reid), Edward Denham (Jack Fox), Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery), Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman), and Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden).

More new faces are joining the series, like Lady Montrose, who is the quintessential Austen mother. She arrives in Sanditon with one objective: matches for her children, Lydia and Henry. Lydia is an independent young woman who is not as eager for a match as her mother, while Lord Henry Montrose is charismatic and confident, but he holds a secret.

There’s also Rowleigh Pryce, a wealthy, curmudgeonly investor who is interested in teaming up with Tom Parker on the seaside resort’s expansion. Their plans become complicated when Rowleigh runs into Lady Denham. Also new to Sanditon is Alexander’s brother, Samuel Colbourne – a lawyer, and a charming bachelor.

Celebrities that attended the Queen’s funeral, from Bear Grylls to Sandra Oh
Queen Elizabeth II
A number of celebrities were in attendance at Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral on Monday (19 September).

The late monarch’s funeral began at 11am, after King Charles III led a procession from nearby Westminster Hall, where her body had been lying in state since Wednesday afternoon (14 September).

Some 2,000 mourners, including world leaders such as US president Joe Biden, took their seats earlier in the 1,269-year-old Westminster Abbey ahead of the funeral.

The Order of Service included a sermon by Archbishop Justin Welby, in which he quoted Vera Lynn’s famous Second World War song “We’ll Meet Again”, and several musical moments.

A number of the late monarch’s favourite hymns, including “The Lord’s my Shepherd, I’ll not Want”, were performed by the choirs of Westminster Abbey and the Chapel Royal.

A few recognisable faces were spotted in attendance at the ceremony.

Peep Showfans have reacted with delight upon realising that the actor who played Big Suze in the show, Sophie Winkleman, is a member of the royal family.

This Famous Kid Is Rumored to Be Princess Eugenie's Flower Girl, but Is She Really the One?
Princess Eugenie
There's been a lot of speculation as to who'll be in the wedding party of Princess Eugenie's wedding to Jack Brooksbank, but perhaps one of the most persistent rumors is that a certain celebrity child will be a flower girl. Nope, we don't mean Princess Charlotte (though we are looking forward to the prospect of seeing her taking control once again), but a certain Theodora Williams. "Teddy," as she's known to her family, is the 6-year-old daughter of British singer Robbie Williams and his wife, La-born Ayda Field. The couple are currently judges on the UK talent show The X Factor, but Robbie has been a superstar in his native UK ever since he was a member of '90s boy band Take That, and he's also had huge success with solo singles like "Angels" and "She's the One."

Other members of the royal family were also spotted arriving at the annual event, including Princess Beatrice; Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; Prince Charles; and Lord Freddie Windsor and his wife, actress Sophie Winkleman, who recently christened their daughter, Maud, in the same royal christening gown that Prince George wore in November. Notable absences included Princess Eugenie, who is currently working in NYC, and Prince Harry, who is still on a journey back from the South Pole after completing his trek with Walking With the Wounded last week. The queen and...

Empire Conquers America
Rian Johnson
Every new baby deserves to be greeted with a little pomp and ceremony, and Empire’s shiny Us version – available on the iPad – is certainly no exception. So we invited some of tinseltown’s top talents to see it in action. And also to mingle, drink and celebrate. Netflix and Empire hosted a night at the Sunset Tower Hotel in Los Angeles and welcomed the likes of Jeremy Renner, David Fincher, Michael Bay, Brett Ratner, Dominic Monaghan, Jason Reitman, Rian Johnson, Allen Hughes, Joe Carnahan, Max Landis, and the always-excellent Walton Goggins.Yes, where else could you see Peep Show’s Big Suze (aka actress Sophie Winkleman) rubbing shoulders with the man who wrote Chronicle? Or Magic Mike / True Blood’s Joe Manganiello towering over pretty much everyone else in the room and looking far too good as he did it? Or even Looper director Rian Johnson getting away with daylight (well,...

'Two and a Half Men' Season 10 pics: Michael Bolton and 'True Blood's' Brit Morgan drink with Walden
"Two and a Half Men" will open its 10th season, and second of the Ashton Kutcher era, with Walden (Kutcher) getting good and drunk.

That's the impression we get from some of the photos CBS has posted of the episode. The story has Walden planning a big night for his girlfriend Zoey's (Sophie Winkleman) birthday. But we're guessing things go awry -- so much so that Michael Bolton, playing himself, has to bring a sloshed Walden home to Alan (Jon Cryer).

It's a guest star-heavy episode that also features the returns of Mimi Rogers (seen below with Winkleman) as Walden's mom and Judy Greer as his ex-wife.

Brit Morgan ("True Blood") also guests as a woman Walden meets at a bar, to Alan's continuing chagrin.

And yes, the show is following through on Jake's (Angus T. Jones) decision to join the Army at the end of last season. So expect...

Lord Frederick Windsor proposed to his wife with a Scrabble set. 'Two and a Half Men': EPs Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn discuss the challenges of remaking a hit show
For the first eight seasons of "Two and a Half Men," the series was all about Charlie Harper and his sexual exploits. But when Charlie Sheen had his meltdown in Feb. 2011 and was replaced by Ashton Kutcher, producers decided to reexamine the direction of the show. And it started off with doing the exact opposite.

The man who was at the center of many of Sheen's barbs, Ep Chuck Lorre, explains to a packed house at PaleyFest that the show matured during its reinvention.

"I think we've outgrown the date of the week series. It's no longer the bimbo of the week. We've long since outgrown that," Lorre says. "I think it's a more relationship-oriented show...It's more mature. It's not childish relationships. It's adult relationships."

Lee Aronsohn, one of the show's other EPs, explains that getting to this point started with figuring out what Walden Schmidt was and what he wasn't.

Key Characters

In an age of class divides, the sinking of the Titanic was an event that impacted the ultra wealthy and the poorest of the poor. Both sets of people are well represented in this dramatization. At one end of the spectrum are aristocrats such as the Earl of Manton who is played by Linus Roache (Batman Begins). His relationship with his rebellious suffragette daughter Georgina (Perdita Weeks) is one of the themes the writers explore in the early episodes although Manton proves to be a heroic figure when the boat starts to sink.

Below deck, Glen Blackhall (Ten Winters) plays a poor Italian immigrant named Paolo Sandrini who falls in love with one of the second class section crew members who is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman. The nouveau...

Eric Idle at an event for The Anniversary Party (2001)
Russell Brand Joins Monty Python Star's New Comedic Play
Eric Idle at an event for The Anniversary Party (2001)
Originally staged as a workshop version in 2007, Eric Idle's musical "What About Dick?" will soon receive a new addition, the Los Angeles Times reports: comedic actor Russell Brand. The four-performance stint will run from April 26 to 29 at the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles.

The tongue-in-cheek comedy stars Brands as a student named Dick and his antics as a Philosophy and Gynecology student at Oxford University. The cast includes a slew of British all-stars including Eddie Izzard (as the inventor of the vibrator, similar to this film released last year), Jane Leeves, Sophie Winkleman, Tracey Ullman, Tim Curry and Billy Connolly.

In an interview with Los Angeles Times Idle says he's been revising the script for a few years, and the addition of Brand enhances the role of Dick.

"It's essentially the same idea as before, but the part of Dick got bigger -- if I'm allowed to say that,...

Gorillas in the Christmas: What did you think of last night's 'Two and a Half Men'?
Ashton Kutcher in Jobs (2013)
If you always sort of suspected that Ashton Kutcher must have been raised by gorillas (how else would you explain his current hair, tweeting habits, or Killers?) then watching last night’s episode of Two and a Half Men would have felt immensely satisfying. But how was it for fans of the show who discovered, alongside Kutcher’s character Walden, that he was brought up with a gorilla (named… Magilla) until he was four-years-old?

In addition to its regular onslaught of sex jokes, mom jokes, moms-having-sex jokes, and Alan Harper perpetually being reminded he’s the reason the sad trombone was invented,...

Uncool Britannia: how British culture turned Tory
British culture is going through a blue period, with actors, musicians and artists all happily admitting that they're privately educated Conservative toffs. What happened?

You may have missed it, but early last month, a very telling photograph appeared in the newspapers. Snapped on New Year's Day by a couple out for a walk on Coombe Hill in the Chilterns, it featured a party of eight – including David and Samantha Cameron, education secretary Michael Gove, film director Tim Burton, and the latter's extremely posh other half Helena Bonham Carter. According to subsequent gossip, the latter couple had been introduced to the Camerons by Bonham Carter's one-time Westminster school contemporary Nick Clegg. Others suggest that the two couples have been friends for years.

The group had reportedly stayed at Chequers, the prime minister's country retreat, on New Year's Eve – where the conversation doubtless turned to Bonham Carter's role in The King's Speech,...

Claudia Winkleman: The quirky charm of TV's new film buff | Vanessa Thorpe
The presenter of Film 2010 served a long apprenticeship before landing this prime-time slot. No wonder she has a style very much her own

The kohl-rimmed eyes and the weighty fringe were probably the first things viewers noticed. Those key Winkleman trademarks were there from the very start, back in the late 1990s. Who is this unusual woman presenter, people asked, and why does she look at the camera sideways, as if tentatively sharing a joke?

Claudia Winkleman's new role as the host of Film 2010, coupled with a stint tonight on Strictly Come Dancing's main show while Bruce Forsythe recovers from flu – as well as her usual presenting job on the Strictly spin-off, It Takes Two – all mark a move up to the front ranks of the broadcasters' roll call of talent.

But how the presenter herself views her prestigious elevation is another matter. With a self-deprecatory...

'100 Questions' finale: Rider Strong from 'Boy Meets World' guest stars
Though "100 Questions" isn't exactly the breakout hit of the summer we'd hoped for, we're glad it's still on -- if only to check out Rider Strong, former star of "Boy Meets World," in tonight's July 1 finale episode.

Strong plays Charlotte's (Sophie Winkleman) date, Alan, who has a serious complex about his height. "Tom Cruise was only 4-foot-12," he insists. They use some tricky camera work to make Strong look shorter than he is. According to his IMDb profile, he's 5'8" - definitely short enough to make Katie Holmes look like a giant, but not totally tiny.

So where has Rider been since "Boy Meets World" was canceled after its sevenvth season? Mostly filming minor movies like "Cabin Fever" and "Pulse 3." He did have pretty memorable roles on "Veronica Mars,""Bones," and "Castle," too.

Still, we really miss him as Shawn Hunter. Let's reminisce for a moment...
